Stopped into The Magic Lamp Inn and posted up at the bar for drinks before our dinner reservation elsewhere. The place is gorgeous, all vintage with antique decor, the kind of spot that makes you want to dress up a little. It gives off a real Frank Sinatra, Rat Pack vibe. Amazing. The drinks were five stars. I had a dirty martini, extra dirty, and it was perfect. The Very Berry Lemon Drop was just as good. And our bartender was amazing, attentive, personable, and made excellent cocktails. We didn't get to try the food this time, which honestly just gives us an excuse to come back. If the kitchen is half as good as the bar, we're in for a treat. Five stars, can't wait to do dinner here properly. The live music was a nice touch too, really added to the whole vibe. This place is a gem, we'll be back soon.
This place is great for a romantic evening. The food is not the best, but the ambience is worth it--especially on a Jazz night. I would not recommend the ribeye with shrimp. The steak with forbidden rice and carrots was much more flavorful on my previous visit--and cheaper! The ambience makes this place worth it. If they were cheaper, then I would give it a five; it would be fair.
We recently dined at the Magic Lamp Inn to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday. Overall, we had a wonderful time! Below is a detailed breakdown of our experience, but here are my general ratings at a glance: Ambiance: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Ambiance The ambiance is absolutely stunning. While the unassuming exterior simply hints at an established, classic steakhouse, the interior completely transforms. Stepping inside feels like entering a lively, old-school Hollywood haunt, beautifully adorned with red velvet, crystal chandeliers, gold accents, and aged wood tables and booths. Note: Upon entering, you aren't greeted immediately at the door; the host stand is actually a few steps to the right, with the waiting area and bar to the left. It was too hot for us to check out their magical garden, so I will have to save that for a future visit! Service Excellent service can often make up for a lot, and there were certainly some high points here. Our greeter was incredibly charming and went out of her way to make my mother-in-law feel special. We also appreciated Edward, the manager, who stopped by to greet each table shortly after seating. That one-on-one touch added a great personal element. However, we did experience a few disappointments. Despite booking a month in advance specifically to enjoy the live music in the main dining room, we were seated in a back room. When we asked about it, we were told the main room was fully booked. Since it was 8 PM and our party was starving, we accepted the table. Our server was friendly and genuinely tried, but we felt somewhat forgotten throughout the night. We frequently had to track down staff for basic needs like water, soda refills, and condiments while we waited with nothing but bread. The delays were significant; by the time we finally received some requested salt and pepper, my mother-in-law's entrée was already cold (it tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp for a while before being brought out). We experienced similar waits between every course. Food Here is a breakdown of everything we ordered: * Amaretto Sour (5/5): Beautifully presented. My husband said it had a fantastic balance of alcohol and sweet-and-sour mix--he enjoyed it so much he ordered two! * Caesar Salad (5/5): Gorgeous presentation and excellent flavor. * Shrimp Bisque (5/5): A must-order! It came out piping hot with beautifully blended flavors, and the sherry was perfectly balanced, not overpowering. * Filet Bruschetta (5/5): Another must-have appetizer. It features a generous portion of sliced meat topped with sweet grilled onions and a delicious glaze. We absolutely loved this. * Smoked Salmon Rockefeller (4/5): Packed with salmon, creamy sauce, and spinach. It was beautifully plated, but it lost a point because it was overly salty, and we couldn't find anything on the plate to neutralize it. * Salmon Entrée (4/5): My father-in-law really enjoyed this. It wasn't dry or under-seasoned (though he did add a touch of salt). His only critique was that it could have been served warmer. * Pork Belly: (5/5) The portion size was quite small for the price, but the texture and taste were incredible. The bourbon sauce and tomatoes were the perfect complement. * Porterhouse (4/5): An absolutely massive cut of meat! It was a bit tough around the edges, but incredibly tender toward the center. The seasoning was light, which really let the natural flavor of the beef shine. The mashed potatoes were amazing--creamy and rich with butter and garlic. The asparagus spears were very thin but had a great crunch and weren't overcooked. This dish would have been a 5/5 if it had been served hotter. * Prime Rib (3/5): Great flavor, but we ordered it medium-rare and it arrived closer to medium. As a result, it wasn't as tender as we're used to. The creamed corn was left untouched as it was dry and extremely bland, and the creamed spinach lacked flavor. The mashed potatoes, however, were excellent. The tougher meat and cooler serving temperature really brought this dish down. * Seared Scallops (5/5): A stunning presentation. We ordered two of these. Mine was slightly undercooked but still tasted well-balanced and delicious. My mother-in-law's portion was cooked flawlessly with phenomenal flavor. Again, the asparagus was quite thin but provided a nice crunch. We did not order dessert, since the options were not to our preference. We are more of a creme brulee or vanilla cream cake people. They did offer some decadent desserts and gave the BDAY girl a generous cut of cheesecake. My daughter took a few bites and enjoyed it very much. She said it was good but didn't have that cheesy flavor. Overall, we enjoyed the experience.

It has been a long time since I have been here and so happy I came back. I loved how they remodeled the restaurant - feels so cozy! I had the land and sea and the steak was a huge portion & really good! The beef salad was delish and my very dirty martini was yummy! Our waitress was very attentive and would check up on us at the right time . I will come back much sooner! LT

The glowing neon lamp outside sets the tone before you even walk through the door. Inside, rich wood paneling, crystal chandeliers, cozy booths, vintage décor, and nods to old Hollywood give the restaurant plenty of character. Marilyn Monroe watches over one dining room, members of the Rat Pack gather near the bar, and every corner has another detail worth noticing. The light-up menu was another fun surprise. It's one of those little details you don't expect, though it made browsing the menu that much easier. The service was warm and attentive from start to finish. Our server checked in at just the right moments and shared a bit of the restaurant's history, including stories about Frank Sinatra and the many Hollywood legends connected to the Magic Lamp over the years. I always enjoy hearing those kinds of stories because they add another layer to the experience. The cocktails were a great way to start the evening, and I loved the classic relish tray that greeted the table. We started with the jumbo shrimp cocktail and roasted bone marrow. The shrimp were fresh and chilled, while the bone marrow was rich without feeling overly heavy, especially spread onto the toasted bread. For our main course, we shared the 22 oz. bone-in ribeye, cooked medium rare, with a side of roasted mushrooms. The steak arrived perfectly cooked, tender, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the mushrooms. It was the perfect centerpiece for the meal. When the singer performed Dream a Little Dream of Me, we both paused our conversation just to listen. It fit the room perfectly and added another layer of charm to an already memorable evening. Before you leave, take a few minutes to wander through the restaurant. Between the vintage light fixtures, artwork, and old Hollywood memorabilia, there's plenty to admire beyond your table. Looking back, I can see why my friend wanted to bring me here. Great food, welcoming service, live music, and decades of history all come together to create a place that's easy to recommend. I'll definitely be back.
Took my friend for his birthday, we had drinks in the bar, Martinis. There was a magician doing card tricks abd a singer doing frank Sinatra. For dinner we had scallops, french onion soup, and pork belly. We cant wait to go back!
Went to Magic Lamp and had such a great experience! The drinks were amazing--well made, flavorful, and definitely one of the highlights of the night. Loved the atmosphere and overall vibe of the place. Definitely a spot I'd come back to for drinks again! The ladies at the bar were outstanding and had great service
When I look for restaurants for date night, this is the ideal place for it. Went to the garden first for happy hour drinks. Pornstar martini and old fashioned was tasty. Then went inside to main restaurant and the atmosphere is just super dope. Great vibes all around. Greeted by Erica with great service. Old fashioned and Aperol Margarita were delicious. Pork Belly appetizer was literally the best I've ever had. Crispy and not chewy like most. Edward came by to check in and hospitality all around is outstanding. Rib eye, lobster Mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts all were top tier. Very glad we came here. 5/5 service. 5/5 food. 5/5 vibes.
My husband surprised me for my birthday and brought me here for dinner, and I'm so glad he did! The restaurant is absolutely gorgeous, and the ambiance is amazing. It reminded me of goth mixed with Xmas...literally two of my favorite things! It felt classy and elegant, and I'm a big fan of this location. They send out a dress code ahead of time, and it's also posted outside and inside the restaurant. I actually really enjoyed the dress code because it gave us an excuse to dress up and enjoy a beautiful night out. While we were there, we noticed that the dress code doesn't seem to be strictly enforced, which I understand because, at the end of the day, they need to make their money. There were people dining there who looked like they were on their way to a baseball game. While the restaurant doesn't seem to be strict about the dress code, I would definitely suggest dressing nicely and looking elegant if you come here. You really do stick out like a sore thumb when you don't, and honestly, it's so nice to see people out enjoying themselves while looking their best. Our first impression wasn't the best. An older woman with long black hair at the host station came across as cranky, which was a little off-putting. However, while we were waiting to be seated, we were greeted by a younger woman who was extremely polite and wonderful. She really helped brighten the mood. Our server was also wonderful. She was an older woman with blonde hair and was incredibly sweet, kind, and attentive throughout the evening. Now for the food...the food was AMAZING! I ordered the sea bass, and it was cooked to absolute perfection. I loved every bite. The wine list was also extensive, which I really appreciated because I love wine. There were plenty of options to choose from, and I went with a Cabernet Sauvignon that was delicious. The Lobster Mac and Cheese was great as well, it had a good size portion of lobster. My husband ordered the New York Steak, he wasn't a fan of it but I don't eat red meat so I didn't try it to give my commentary. While we were eating, the manager, Edward, stopped by to greet us. I appreciate the attentive nature of this location, but not all commentary necessarily feels welcoming. He was kind, and I'm sure he meant no harm, but while talking with us, he suggested that we try the menu in the outside garden and made the comment, "It's cheaper." I felt that comment was unnecessary. We were enjoying a nice night out, and after asking us where we were from, that comment made me feel like we were quickly stereotyped. It was an uncomfortable moment and unfortunately left me with a negative impression of the manager. That being said, I don't want that interaction to overshadow the rest of our experience. The location is gorgeous, the food was amazing, our server was wonderful, and overall, I would still recommend this restaurant for a beautiful night out. And before I forget...the birthday cheesecake they brought out was AMAZING! It was honestly the best cheesecake I've ever had. So smooth, creamy, and delicious. The chef at this location is absolutely killing it! I had a beautiful birthday dinner and really enjoyed the experience. The atmosphere, food, wine selection, and attention to detail made for a memorable night.
The Magic Lamp Inn was a really good time! We drove out from LA to visit with friends in town from Portland staying nearby. Hubs and the friend picked the spot so I had no idea what to expect. What I found was this amazing steakhouse out on old Route 66 that completely takes you back to another era! I mean, it's called the Magic Lamp and it's magic that awaits you! Open the door and you're immediately transported to another time where Elvis and Sinatra are alive crooning familiar tunes you grew up with/heard your parents listen to. You should likely plan ahead and get reservations, although we didn't. It was so last minute we couldn't. But the hostess on the phone said they take limited walk-ins when we called the day before. We just arrived early and hoped for the best. And luckily, we got a table. They sat us in the bar area and although it wasn't directly in the room with Elvis or Sinatra we could hear both and it was an incredible place to sit and people watch! They have an insane cocktail list and even better, bartenders who actually know how to mix a drink properly. Every cocktail we ordered was spot on! They even had mocktails for our teen. The Steakhouse offers a variety of steak and seafood options with salads and pastas too. Plenty of sides and starters. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious! And even the bread basket which I didn't order had some very tasty bread/pretzel options. The people in our party who ordered steak absolutely loved their plates. The fish eaters were not as in love but that's not to say that everything wasn't good. It was all enjoyable but if you're going to a steakhouse order the steak! They do it well here. The ahi tuna starter was also delicious and so was the Hemingway cocktail. If I was younger, I could have sat there all night trying every cocktail on the list. I mean when a business has a margarita called The Pornstar Margarita, they mean business. I don't eat too much red meat these days but damn, my steak with mash potatoes/ gravy and veggies was so good! My hub and teen stole several bites. I ate the whole thing and I rarely do that these days. To round up the meal, for dessert we share a baclava with ice cream and the biggest/deepest cheesecake slice I've seen in a long time! Both were excellent. As if the food and drinks weren't great the entertainers were awesome and they even had a magician roaming around! I liked that the manager (I think that was who he was) stopped by the table to ask how everything was. Old school done right! This was a very fun and memorable experience. I will remember this evening with my friends and family. It's 4.8 stars on Yelp and they truly, truly are a 5 star place! To top it all off the Elvis singer sang Carpenter songs which completely took me back to my mom/dad and the 1970's. Anyhoo! Magic in a Lamp indeed! Somehow they bottled it up here and are serving it out!
Phenomenal place, people, and provisions!! Take a step back in time, and experience class and style the way it use to be! Ty was attentive and helpful recommending drinks and desserts, and Edward was just a Dream! Applause and Accolades All Around!!!

What I found was this amazing steakhouse out on old Route 66 that completely takes you back to another era! I mean, it's called the Magic Lamp and it's magic that awaits you! Open the door and you're immediately transported to another time where Elvis and Sinatra are alive crooning familiar tunes you grew up with/heard your parents listen to. You should likely plan ahead and get reservations, although we didn't. It was so last minute we couldn't. But the hostess on the phone said they take limited walk-ins when we called the day before. We just arrived early and hoped for the best. And luckily, we got a table. They sat us in the bar area and although it wasn't directly in the room with Elvis or Sinatra we could hear both and it was an incredible place to sit and people watch! They have an insane cocktail list and even better, bartenders who actually know how to mix a drink properly. Every cocktail we ordered was spot on! They even had mocktails for our teen. The Steakhouse offers a variety of steak and seafood options with salads and pastas too. Plenty of sides and starters. Everything I ordered was absolutely delicious! And even the bread basket which I didn't order had some very tasty bread/pretzel options. The people in our party who ordered steak absolutely loved their plates. The fish eaters were not as in love but that's not to say that everything wasn't good. It was all enjoyable but if you're going to a steakhouse order the steak! They do it well here. The ahi tuna starter was also delicious and so was the Hemingway cocktail. If I was younger, I could have sat there all night trying every cocktail on the list. I mean when a business has a margarita called The Pornstar Margarita, they mean business. I don't eat too much red meat these days but damn, my steak with mash potatoes/ gravy and veggies was so good! My hub and teen stole several bites. I ate the whole thing and I rarely do that these days. To round up the meal, for dessert we share a baclava with ice cream and the biggest/deepest cheesecake slice I've seen in a long time! Both were excellent. As if the food and drinks weren't great the entertainers were awesome and they even had a magician roaming around! I liked that the manager (I think that was who he was) stopped by the table to ask how everything was. Old school done right! This was a very fun and memorable experience. I will remember this evening with my friends and family. It's 4.8 stars on Yelp and they truly, truly are a 5 star place! To top it all off the Elvis singer sang Carpenter songs which completely took me back to my mom/dad and the 1970's. Anyhoo! Magic in a Lamp indeed! One of my most enjoyable dining experiences took place recently at The Magic Lamp Inn. I heard about this very special restaurant from a You Tube video with Charles Phoenix. The iconic magic lamp sign with the billowing flame is something you just don't see anymore. The hours of operation are limited (5pm -8:30 p.m.) but, don't let that stop you from visiting. Yes, there is a dress code but don't let that stop you either. Dining at the Magic Lamp is an experience so put on a dress shirt or nice dress. It's worth it. We arrived without prior planning or a reservation around 7:30 p.m. We had just left the Ontario Airport and decided to drop in. We were greeted very warmly and directed to the outdoor garden to enjoy the bar and comfortable surroundings. Within about 20 min our table was ready and we entered the lush, warm brandy and red surroundings. The jazz chanteuse serenaded the patrons and I became so relaxed. I imagine this is what fine dining was meant to be. Besides the drinks we enjoyed, we ordered the tequila pasta with shrimp, beet salad, and tuna tower. The pretzel bread was a definite highlight. The only thing that I was sorry about was that our meal ended. Plenty of parking out front. Enjoy your visit! read more

Really enjoyed this place. The environment was very comfortable and the staff was attentive on receiving us. Parking was plentiful at 5 pm but full by 7, I would uber there if you get a later reservation. There is a bar inside if you wish to get there a little early (there's also one outside I'll touch on in a bit). Seating was great and comfortable, table was ample for the plating. Waiting and service staff were prompt and professional. Food was very good, I wouldn't say 5 stars but a solid four. My steak was a little overcooked, but everything else was very good. Ordered the ribeye with potatoes and zucchini, my FRIEND ordered the chicken with broccoli and mashed potatoes (very well prepared and cooked). We added a side of mushrooms which were a highlight of the meal. Cocktails were great and balanced. For entertainment we had Elvis in the building ! Not needed but greatly enjoyed. There was also a magician doing card tricks roaming around. We didn't have room for dessert but the options looked great. The owner came by to thank us for attending and invited us to the remodeled outdoor bar and patio which came with a 25% discount for being dinner guests. The outdoor area was beautiful and interesting. Our hostess was attentive and kind. Again, great cocktails and they also had a short menu for those wishing to have a more casual evening. Overall, I think it was a good pick and would go back for occasions calling for a high caliber steakhouse. Cost was fair for what they offered and didn't hesitate to leave a healthy tip. Awesome retro vintage decor, feels like Sinatra should be singing in the corner. Amazing food! The best steak I have ever had. Medium rare just melted in my mouth. Pistachio gelato is fabulous, not sweet like grocery store ice cream. Nutty and savory. Large shrimp in the cocktail, and the pork belly would make a wonderful meal on its own. I grew up driving by this place and this is my first time coming here. I will be back!! read more

The Magic Lamp Inn was amazing! I went here for my belated birthday dinner and my family was very impressed Our hosts were considerate and attentive, determined to get us the best table in house to free up so that we could watch the live Elvis performance (I love Elvis!). I appreciated that they wanted us to be included in the restaurant atmosphere due to our original table being in the back, away from the action. The atmosphere immersed us in this 1950s Supper Club theme, making this place a unique and true novelty. Once my family sat down, here are some of the menu items we ordered (from what I recall): Caesar Salad 2 French Onion Soups Magic Lynchee Martini (mine ) Smoked Salmon Rockefeller Bone Marrow Lobster Mac & Cheese Roasted Mushrooms Bone-In Ribeye Chilean Seabass New York Cheesecake () The presentation of the main dishes were lovely and delicious! Why did it take so long to find this place?!? What a hidden gem with amazing vibes and good food. It's quite a trek from the OC but totally worth the drive!!! Came here on a Friday night after getting stuck behind a train that wouldn't move! But the hostess was just gracious and even scored us a great table just because it was date night. (Thank you!) The owner Edward even came by to make sure everyone was having a good time. (Nice touch)! They have live music- talk about real talent! We missed Frank Sinatra and Elvis but the female vocalist was amazing. Her voice was so soothing and beautiful. (Hot tip: They also have a magician on some nights!) Now for the food- yes kind of pricey but you're taking about dinner AND entertainment so totally worth it! Great portions and delish. We ordered the rib-bye and ended up taking half home. Perfectly charred and temp. Even the complimentary bread was tasty- hot and a nice crunch. Other delicious fixings included roasted mushrooms, loaded potatoes and Brussels sprouts. Had an early Father's Day dinner. Allegedly, the Rat Pack partied here, but according to my 5-second research, they hung out more at the Sycamore Inn a mile away. You go for the excellent service and ambiance more than for the meals. The rack of lamb was good, but I prefer it done more Middle Eastern style. If you aren't lucky enough to live near Armenian and Russian bakeries like I am, the Russian chocolate cake will impress you. read more

We went here for date night on a hot day and I suppose this is on us but I thought the attire wasn't strict. Boy was I wrong. It was hot and I wore some shorts and the hostess told us we couldn't be seated where all the normal tables were but offered us a different side of the restaurant. You know I was mortified but we didn't want to waste the reservation plus this place had raving reviews for couples. Aside from the attire fiasco the food was delicious. On par with maestros in terms of pricing and flavor. I wish they had softer warmer bread and flavorful butter but that's me. We passed on the veggie appetizer. I got the fish and it was delectable! The lychee drink was also exquisite a bit on the sweeter side. Our server was super kind and accommodating which I didn't really get that from the front of the house at least. Before seating us another hostess asked "are you even old enough to drink?" Which I won't lie felt pretty disrespectful. My boyfriend on the other hand bless his heart took that as a compliment. Maybe I'm reading too much into it or perhaps the clientele here is for a more mature vintage audience (we're both in our 20s) but it definitely rubbed me the wrong way. Delicious sure but I probably won't be coming back, the vibes did not match what I expect plus the comment left a sour taste. I understand it's procedure though. read more

As a heads up, on Friday/Saturday there is the menu item for prime rib and also on these days a magician that walks around. Other days do not include this, so I didn't get to experience this. There is also a dress code but they weren't super strict for us! Staff was very friendly from the entrance and also our waiter. He was very nice including packaging our food for us and making sure we were taken care of even when there was a sides mix-up. There's live music routinely, and the ambiance is very unique. There are mannequins and stained glass windows and little decorations here and there. As for the food, I overall felt it was very reasonably priced and high quality. I tried 3 different steaks and thought the filet mignon and Porterhouse were great. I am typically a big NY strip person, but I thought the other two were better than the NY though it was still good. I believe the NY steak was just a little overcooked which may have contributed. Mushrooms were solid, the lobster mac was tasty, and the tuna tower was yummy. Overall, it's a hidden place that I have not heard much about. Given the thought and experience of it all, I really enjoyed the place and wouldn't mind coming back. If you are looking for old school in the IE look no further than The Magic Lamp. The food here is great, along with the service. I really like the location, along with the old school feel of the Magic Lamp. The service itself is great. The interior reminds me of The Smoke House in Burbank. The staff here is always welcoming, and friendly. A must for a celebration dinner, or just a dinner. read more

I doubt they would be done with your dinner service by then and they are very gracious so I could not picture them kicking you out. I would calling the restaurant to ask how long the seating is for and be mindful of your time as everyone does also…
Are there Happy Hour specials?
We have Happy Hour 5-7pm Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday at the inside bar, and 5-7pm Friday-Sunday at the Magical Gardens.
