    Steak Sandwich
    Kevin E.

Came in with a party of 8 on Easter Sunday and we got sat pretty quickly which was nice considering how busy it was. Felicia was our first server and she was very nice and attentive, always checking in and making sure we were good. The food was delicious and came out pretty quick. I got the steak sandwich which was great and cooked just right. Tyler took over mid meal and he was just as nice and attentive, the service stayed consistent the whole time. They have a huge selection of drinks and a pretty big bar which adds to the overall vibe. Definitely a good spot for groups.

Cheers! Girl Next Door, Basil Bourbon Lemonade, Old Fashioned, and water. Nothing shows more love than a DD!

Nothing says love like celebrating Valentine's Day like double date night with beloved friends! And The State was just the place. It's our local well-loved place for good reason. The drinks and food never break our hearts! My Galentine ordered the VDay special surf and turf. The center cut sirloin steak came out perfectly to her taste, with the added meaty thematic bonus of being cut in the shape of a heart. Her shrimp stood no chance in her dedicated pursuit - she said they were so delish they didn't need extra butter or seasoning. Mashed and veggies rounded out her meal. Why pick one love when you can have two? My Palentine indulged in his two food faves: Mama's meatballs and poutine. He was in 7th heaven with the rich short rib, creamy cheesy goodness, spicy meatballs, and rich sauce. He said he was so full because the poutine was generously more meaty than fry-y, like he'd ordered a short rib dinner. Definitely the way to this man's heart! My Valentine ordered his fave smash burger. He's a no-nonsense meat & cheese kinda guy. It's his dreamy go-to. Hey, you love the one you're loyal to, and my guy is dedicated. Crispy fries with chipotle, ranch, and ketchup for his dipping pleasure. Everyone's in the pool! And me? My love was the blackberry bacon burger. Mmm! If I'd gone out to pick the blackberries myself in the February sunshine, soft-ripened my own Brie, I couldn't have made this burger any more delectable. Candied zippy thick cut bacon, juicy thick patty, creamy Brie, peppery arugula, and dang - that jam...mmm! The best I could do was "M mmm mmmm" (I love you) because my Momma taught me to not talk with my mouth full. Tempura onion rings were my guilty pleasure. They were battered more thickly than I recall from last time, so I peeled some off, but still nibbled all the crunchy bits. Our drinks - a whole other layer of love. I gotta give a loving shout out to the bartenders here: they are second to none. We may travel far and wide, but we always come home to the ones we love behind this bar. Here's to celebrating another year of friendship, great food, craft cocktails, and love - still smitten at The State.

food was generally good but some very interesting concepts like blueberry burger. The taste was decent but considering the price point I expected something a little more well executed. I got the onion rings substituted for an additional fee and it was mostly just breading. I could not eat more than 1 onion rings because it was pretty dry and mostly bread. The crème brûlée was good for dessert but again, nothing out of the ordinary, it was just acceptable. Worth a try but not a usual spot for sure.

Clean inside, nice setting not too crowded. Many cocktail options. Food options were decent. Green beans + aoli were yummy. Cocktails were good. Servers were average. Nothing special. Sorry.

An unexpected, yet delightful place with a simple menu and ambiance if you're looking for a fun place to dine with a group. We made reservations and my friends and I came here for some dinner and it didn't disappoint! We shared the Caesar Salad, with the romaine lettuce being roasted, and added some pretty nice depth of crispiness to each bite. As with gastropubs, I had to try one of their burgers. I got the Blackberry Barbecue, which was a pretty great burger. With a delicious herb aoili, brie cheese, blackberry barbecue sauce, arugula, and candied bacon...wow and just wow! It was bursting in flavor and the wagu beef made the burger totally worth every bite. It was a pretty heavy burger and had to actually box up leftovers. The burger also came with a delicious house salad. We also got to try some of their fries, which was also seasoned nicely. Table service was good - we sat outside in the patio area. And our water glasses were filled before we needed to ask for refills. So, great experience at The State for the food. They also have a nice bar inside, for indulging on any of their drinks. There's a pretty close parking lot that's like a 2 minute walk to the restaurant. Or really walkable from anywhere, as this is part of the Victoria Gardens shopping area. I am definitely adding this spot for my return to have that Blackberry Barbecue burger, but for now, I'll just have to dream about it until my next visit.

Came here with some cousins on a Saturday at 3pm and there was no wait. I love the vibe of this place! It has a dark trendy feel to it almost like a lounge. Our server was nice and attentive. She kept checking on us and came back multiple times to refill our waters. The food and drinks are pretty good. I enjoyed their Cheese Plate and Braised Short Rib Tacos. The meat was tender and flavorful. They also have a speakeasy which I definitely want to check out one day.

Been coming here for years and I must say, it never ceases to surprise me. First experienced this gem in Redlands for my uncles birthday when I was barely 21. Now years later being engaged it's one of our favorite date night spots. The drinks, the food, the atmosphere, it's takes all the social camaraderie you'd enjoy from Yard House and combines with with top tier food such as Lucille's and Eureka and combines it all perfectly into this one of a kind night out. Whether a it's for brunch, lunch, dinner or special night, make your reservations and head on over. (Ask about the black antler or veuve noir)

Burger: Got the BBQ Bourbon with salad. The salad was good. The burger was underwhelming. Asked for medium but came back medium well. The patty itself was meh as it was under-seasoned with not much bbq sauce on the bun relying on the age cheddar for flavor. The onion rings were more carnival variety - thick fluffy breaded. The bacon was good. The bun, although buttered, was a little on dry side. Beer: selection was good along with the whiskey selection. A plus here. Service: Sat at bar and they were attentive and food came out quick. 4 stars for service beer and ambience

    Taco Tuesday menu

I was totally impressed with The State with this visit! Went there with my sister and my toddler. We went there Tuesday evening-ish around 4pm - 6pm. Yay Taco Tuesday! I loved that the Taco Tuesday menu was easy to read and it's the basics: Tacos and Margs! Free kids appetiser: it's fruit sliced up so nicely I would eat it. Food: I tried the carne asada and shrimp tacos and ultimately the shrimp tacos won! Yes surprisingly good. They were crunchy cause of the tempura and drizzled with the sweet and sour sauce. Kids menu: my little one had the butter and lemon spaghetti. I actually appreciated how plan and simple it was. Toddlers are picky eaters and it was perfect for my kid. Nothing fancy but very tasty. The spaghetti dish also came with fries. Drinks: house margarita for me, I was feeling basic so I had it plain and simple haha. Even went for a second round! Service: our waitress was amazing because of her suggestion my little had his own appetizer that made him feel special. Ambience: perfect for my toddler. It wasn't too loud at the time 4p-6pm on a Tuesday. The music was at a low volume, perfect calm sounds for everyone to be able to speak and hear each other. We could all have a conversation Parking: there's paid parking right infront of The State. Free parking within walking distance of The State. Definitely a great to close out the day!

    El conejo de oro

If you're looking for a stylish spot with a hidden-lounge vibe, tasty drinks, and creative food options, this place is worth checking out. We were genuinely impressed by the food that left us both satisfied and curious to try more. We did have the cajun shrimp macaroni and cheese that was quite rich and filling. The bacon wrap dates were tasty too but only comes with four on the plate. To drink, I liked their el conejo de oro and agua de rosalita. That said, there were several drawbacks to our visit. We arrived around 3:30 PM, and it felt like there might have been a staff change happening. The hostess wasn't very welcoming, and we were seated at a small table tucked awkwardly in a back corner with uncomfortable chairs and this frame that sticks out above your table. Even though plenty of other spots were open. To make matters worse, a fly kept circling our food, likely because our table was out of range of the ceiling fans (and we weren't even outside). Our first server also forgot our order entirely. Thankfully, things improved when Juan took over. He was attentive, kept our waters filled, and gave us helpful, friendly recommendations from the menu. While the start of our visit was off-putting, enough to overshadow the food a bit, Juan's service helped turn things around. So be aware that there is a risk of getting an inattentive server. The service is what would make me hesitate to come back but I'll give it another try, for the food. And hopefully, the service doesnt taint the visit. If you want to watch TV, they did have two little tvs in the bar area. You also have the option of outside seating.

    A new fave!

Always a great time here! The food and drinks are always delicious. It does get busy so if you can, reserve ahead of time. If not, the bar is fun and you'll get a firsthand look at the mixology fun (depending on time of day you might find seats available). Do ask about their speakeasy

We had a 1:00 PM reservation and were told after checking in that the wait would only be 20-30 minutes. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes and were then seated at a tiny table for six people with the sun directly hitting us the entire time. Our waitress greeted us with only one menu and said she didn't have any more. We asked about bottomless mimosas and she responded, "I don't know, I saw one person doing it but I don't think so." How does a server not know whether the restaurant offers bottomless mimosas? We ordered drinks almost immediately after being seated, but they didn't arrive until 2:10 PM. It is over an hour later , while tables seated after us already had theirs. The food service was even worse: 2:09 PM: only 1 out of 6 meals arrived No silverware or napkins were provided We had to ask another server, who placed loose forks and knives directly on the table and said he only had 3 napkins 2:30 pm only 2 more plates came out Another plate arrived later by 2:33pm while 2 people still had no food at all By the time my food arrived, the waffle was dry and stiff, and the "chicken and waffles" looked like one chicken strip cut into four tiny pieces. And was $22. My son's burger came out much later, and my husband's food didn't arrive until 2:50 PM which was another $22 dry chicken and waffle plate. At that point we asked for the manager because our entire Mother's Day brunch had been spent waiting while everyone ate separately. The manager seemed completely unconcerned and said someone would handle it only after my mom asked what was he planning on doing besides apologizing as we were still missing a plate. Meanwhile, our waitress barely checked on us unless we flagged her down ourselves. No refills, no silverware, no urgency, and constant "your food is coming in two seconds" excuses. The food itself was disappointing too. Chicken and waffle Portions were tiny, flavors were off, and even the horchata colada tasted nothing like horchata. This was actually our second bad experience here. We previously came for Taco Tuesday and experienced similar disorganization, but decided to give the restaurant another chance. Huge mistake. Parking is terrible, the waiting area is overcrowded, and the restaurant felt completely unprepared and understaffed for a holiday they should have planned for. But we were sitting waiting for a drink. I heard other waitresses freaking out telling people Dont Give Out lunch menus sad that they can't even handle brunch. Honestly, you're better off going somewhere like The Broken Yolk Cafe if you want decent brunch service and to actually enjoy your meal together. Sad that a place trying to present itself as high-end. If you're gonna boast about being the first rooftop in Rancho, your service and your food and your drinks better be good. Completely ruined our Mother's Day. We will never return! The 20% off a $220 bill was paid right back at the waitress tip which, if my family hadn't paid, I would've gave her nothing. Isn't your waitress supposed to see your table that one person has food for half an hour shouldn't she go back and ask shouldn't your waitress see if you have your drinks within 40 minutes shouldn't your waitress know what you serve there shouldn't your waitress check on her tables completely ridiculous. A single rose does not make up for horrible service. I included pictures with time stamps

The server check on us twice during the whole time there. It felt like we were a burden to ask for something. The place was practically empty, only a few tables occupied and 3 large parties. We had to wave down the server for refills. We tried waving someone for a high chair but he looked at us and looked away and continued walking. There seemed to be enough help but they were too busy talking in a group to acknowledge the customers. I went to the restroom and no hand soap on any dispenser nor paper towels. How can a "high end" place not have the basic needs. Food was definitely not worth the price. The only good thing was the rice and beans. The salsa that comes with the chips tastes horrible. It had too much cumin. We got our appetizers with no plates no napkins it took the server over 15-20 minutes to bring us the plates but shortly after we got our main dishes. So we hardly touched our appetizers we ended up taking them to go. When we arrived there was no host to guide us to our party. We waited and since no one acknowledged us we went to look for our party that was already seated. Overall I rate the place an experience a 4 out of 10. I strongly believe that they should work on their customer service. The staff should be friendly and should check up on their tables more often. Customers should not have to be waiting for refills, plates and napkin's even for our check we waited several minutes that we eventually had to waive down the servers at the corner talking.
