This was my second time dining at the Sycamore Inn but my first in the dining room (last time was on the porch which is more casual and I think has a different menu). I'll be honest, we were not a great group for this restaurant and I feel really bad about it. First off, we were a half hour late to our reservation because the birthday girl got sick in the car on the way over. Fortunately, the people in our party who arrived separately and on time were able to get drinks from the bar and entertain themselves while they waited. The restaurant gave us no trouble for seating us late, giving us just a gentle reminder that they closed at 9:00 (and we arrived after 8:00). We were a party of six but because the birthday girl wasn't feeling well, she didn't order anything. And the staff didn't give us any problem about that. Our server was very patient with us even though we were kind of a motley crew and some of us were a little traumatized over the illness that had occurred. They were really nice to bring a birthday dessert which of course our friend couldn't enjoy but other people at the table ate. I ordered a wedge salad and was happy to find out that I could add a protein to it, so I added a filet. Another person at the table ordered the same thing and I think our orders might have gotten mixed up because I ordered medium rare and the other person's plate looked medium rare but mine came out medium. But it tasted good and I was happy enough with it so I just went ahead and ate it and enjoyed it. Our server asked another person in our party how he enjoyed the prime rib and he made kind of an offhanded joke about how much fat was on the cut and said something like, it would be nice if more of it were edible. And without question, a little while later the staff came over and told him that they had another full serving of prime rib coming out for him. No questions asked. (To be honest, he ate the entire portion of the first prime rib except for the fat pieces, so they went above and beyond I think.) They also let us have a leisurely dinner and did not rush us out and it was probably about 10:00 p.m. when we finally left and they were cleaning up. The bartender was amazing too, I came to him with a $100 bill and he made change for me no problem so I could throw in cash for my portion of our party's bill. I had to drive 30 minutes back to our hotel and I had to passengers, one of whom was sick, so I didn't have any cocktails but the drink menu looked amazing and I would love to come back and hang out at the bar sometime. We attended an event on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, hosted by an amazing financial advisor. Unfortunately, what should have been an enjoyable evening was significantly diminished by the service we received from one of the servers. My spouse and I were seated at Table 2, which had six guests. Two servers were assigned to the event. The gentleman serving the other tables was exceptional, professional, attentive, and pleasant throughout the evening. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the young BLONDE woman assigned to our table. Having frequented countless steakhouses over the decades, including Sycamore Inn, I have a clear understanding of what professional restaurant service should look like. This experience was not merely disappointing; it was uncomfortable, embarrassing, and completely unacceptable! All six guests at our table were served their salads at approximately the same time except for my spouse and me. Our salads arrived a good 10 minutes later. The other guests actually began to feel uncomfortable and made consoling comments to us, assuring us that our salads were presumably on the way. That alone was awkward and unnecessary. Our drinks were watered down and were NEVER refilled, nor were we ever asked if we would like another. Meanwhile, other guests at our SAME table, whose glasses were still relatively full, were offered and given refills without even requesting them. The inconsistency was OBVIOUS to everyone at our table. When the entrées were served, my spouse and I were again singled out. Our portions were noticeably and dramatically SMALLER (kid size) portions than those served to everyone else at SAME our table; so much so that the other guests immediately noticed and questioned WHAT WAS HAPPENING. Being treated differently in front of an entire table of people was both embarrassing and insulting. The situation improved ONLY when the gentleman serving the event stepped in and brought us our dessert. He was courteous, attentive, and made an effort to provide the pleasant experience we should have received from the beginning. The BLONDE server never returned to our table and instead continued assisting other guests around the room. This was not simply a matter of being busy. It was a consistent pattern of neglect, unequal treatment, and a lack of BASIC customer service. If Sycamore Inn expects its staff to represent the establishment professionally, this employee clearly needs immediate and serious re - training in customer service!!! If she has no interest (or was begged by Sycamore Inn to work for them - which we ALL DOUBT) in providing great of service, management should seriously reconsider whether she belongs in a customer-facing position. One exceptional server (the gentleman who also served at this event in the downstairs reception room) cannot compensate for another employee making guests feel ignored, uncomfortable, and embarrassed. We came expecting the level of hospitality associated with Sycamore Inn and left deeply disappointed. The 3 star review is simply because of this; our first time experience was just bad. Not because of the food, or our immediate service, but because management allowed this one (obvious drunk lady) to have a full blown 20+ minute phone conversation, at her table, while on speaker as loud as the phone could go. Everyone around her was trying to enjoy their dinner but clearly bothered by her rudeness. We complained to our waitress and she told us that someone else complained as well. The manager was just standing very close to her without even addressing the issue. He kept looking over to her but NEVER ONCE approached her to tell her to go outside or end her call. Clear cut review of the Sycamore Inn is what I'd call a textbook case of an outdated restaurant in terms of food quality and overall satisfaction from taste and ambiance. The building itself is probably 100 years old with renovations keeping it on life support. The smell and overall design is not what I'd come back for. The historical aspect is cool.. I suppose. The service was good, a standard expected from their prices. The food itself was a disappointment. The crab cakes were more like salt cakes with a dash of crab, pooled in the sauce. The prime rib in the bottom of my photo may look amazing, but alas, it was harder to cut than a well done ribeye. This was their "medium rare" option that looked more like medium Now, the plate to the left was requested at medium, but as you can see, it looks well done. The sides were passable, but I feel I can replicate the same taste through canned product with some fresh ingredients. The only good things about the meal was the service and attention. We sat in the bar area and it was nice. I truly miss the days where people actually dressed for dinner. Mostly people in shorts and casual wear adorned the bar area. We first ordered the BBQ oysters and a Sazerac and raspberry lemon drop. The flavor was great, the oysters were tiny! Perhaps the gulf has spoiled me, but seriously small oysters. I read great reviews about this restaurant and made reservations to dine and experience this old school steakhouse first hand. I loved the cozy and warm feeling of the wood-framed house, complete with a "porch" as you enter and a fireplace indoors. Once inside the hostess checked us in, within a few minutes, our table was ready. Our Server for the evening was Andrea, she provided excellent customer service and checked on us throughout the evening. Menu highlights: We ordered the Seabass, Ribeye Steak and Creamed Spinach to share. We had a puffed pastry with vanilla ice cream for dessert. The Seabass melts in your mouth, it was so tender and moist. The steak was medium rare. I throughly enjoyed the added blue cheese crust. Sharing a dessert was the perfect finishing touch to a delicious meal that had it all from salad, bread, surf and turf to a sweet ending. I have been by this well over a million times. Today I got to go in and eat. To start off wY to many stairs, finally got seated in the basement. They got us served. My friend Marlene from Rancho Cucamonga in the Inland Empire in California recommended this old school, been around for a 150 years steakhouse with excellent martinis plus a wonderful wine list institution. It is in an old house right on the north side of Foothill Blvd or historic Rt 66 actually. Open only for dinner we got there at 7 pm and were seated in the dining area by the bar. It was dark and I just loved the beautiful and colorful lamps. Felt the old school vibe in the air. Atmosphere - 5 stars - nice and mellow. The room - really cool. The bar was happening and popping. Really fun group. We were in the dark and docile section and had to get the flashlights on our phones to check out the menu. The food - 5 stars- great Calamari. Awesome salmon ( charbroiled with really delicious sides- mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus). The other appetizer was the guac mash which was also really nice. Came with warm bread. Table next to us got really awesome looking steaks. Lobster looked yummy as well. The drinks - Marlene had a couple of Pineapple cosmos and she said they were strrrrrronggggg. We have been coming here since my girls were babies, my husband and I decided to come out to their happy hour since we haven't been here in quite a while, needless to say we were extremely disappointed because they advertise happy hour specials, but this bartender said that the menu and online advertising are a misprint and they did not offer any type of food specials. We showed him the menu print that clearly states happy hour food specials, but he said it was a misprint and they do not honor that. We paid for one drink that was completely watered down. It was half off, but at the end of the day, $9.25 for a half water down drink is not worth it. Do not waste your time here.. After 7 years of living in Upland, finally had the opportunity to try the infamous Sycamore Inn. We went in casually dressed after a Sunday gathering and were pleasantly surprised. First off, the restaurant is still set back in the early 1900's so it feels like you just stepped into a Time Machine. The staff were all so pleasant and attentive from the hostess to the waiters. This location has a bar to the right upon entering which seems very casual, while the main dining area is filled with dozens of dinner tables and more formal. There is an upper level and lower level that are considered banquet rooms. When we arrived, there was a graduation party taking place in the upper level. Now for the main course, the FOOD. As I mentioned, I was pleasantly surprised from appetizers to the main course. We tried the oysters Rockefeller($27 for 4 oysters), stuffed mushrooms ($19), and a 22oz Rib Eye steak ($84) to share with a side of the Mac n cheese. The steak was cooked to our perfect request of Medium and the appetizers were very tasty. I would pass on the Mac n cheese as not anything special to its flavor. They provide bread with a side of plain butter and a sun-dried tomato butter. Bread was warm and fresh. We arrived 30 mins prior to closing and never felt rushed and service was great. We recently enjoyed a banquet at Sycamore Inn with our club. We had about 75 attendees and used their downstairs banquet room. From the outside this restaurant is very inviting with its huge trees surrounding what seems to be a historic home. The inside can definitely use a rehab as carpet was old and frayed, walls dingy and with outdated decor. We ordered their filet mignon which was overcooked. It had a demiglaze which was good but there wasn't enough and I wished I had asked for more. It came with a side of mashed potatoes which was amazing as well perfectly cooked garlic string beans. They provide complementary sour dough bread which was warm and so delicious! Their dinner salad was a disappointment as it was limp, didnt seem fresh and was literally just lettuce and dressing. What they lacked in ambience they definitely made up for with their service. Staff were friendly and very accommodating and probably one of the best features of this restaurant. Would I return? I wished I got their names but this was on Mother's Day, 2026 and we had a reservation for 10 at 4:30. Our reservation initially was for the veranda, but the restaurant called and moved us into the Cucamonga room. Because our reservation was for veranda, the majority of our guests were looking prior to our reservation on the menu for what to order. Prior to being seated, we were waiting outside for the establishment to open and you can clearly see they were not ready to have any type of Mother's Day celebration of tables outside under their canopy, as the tables were not even set up. I'm guessing this was the reason why we were moved to the Cucamonga room. Normally we would have been fine with this move but the waitress, blonde hair, pony tail, I wish I would've got her name, was extremely rude when we had told her, that some of us would like to order off the other menu, after she only gave us the menu for inside (most expensive). She looked at us and sort of shook her head and said, I cannot do that. I will have to ask my manager because that menu is for outside. I kindly said, we were supposed to sit outside and the restaurant moved us. She came back and told us only two people out of 10 were allowed to order off of the outside menu. I personally got upset at this because this is completely wrong as the restaurant was the one that moved us, clearly because they were not ready for Mother's Day outside and then they want to handcuff us to the inside menu only My sisters did not want me to make a big deal of this because it was Mother's Day, so I am doing this now, while I have the time and would hope that this establishment changes that policy. The reason why we picked this place was because my mom and dad would frequent the sycamore inn back in the 60's and was hoping to bring something familiar back to our Mom. You simply just don't get treated the same anymore. The food was decent, probably could have been better had we had a kinder waitress or a manager that would have allowed anyone of us to order off whatever menu we want after being moved to the inside by the restaurant. Just left us feeling like it was a $$$ grab x10. Anyway, our reservation was for 10 on May 10, 2026 at 4:30 in the Cucamonga room, if this helps the restaurant understand who our servers were. My husband and I came here for one of our last date nights before our baby comes. We've been wanting to try this place because of the history and we love a steakhouse! For appetizers we did the jumbo artichoke and stuffed mushrooms, it was very filling. They also give you bread as you wish, also yummy! We both really really liked our cut of steak. My wife and I made reservations at Sycamore Inn for our anniversary. We have driven past it so many times over the years but never stopped in. I am really glad we finally did. The atmosphere was great and made for a perfect anniversary dinner. Our server was fantastic. He was very attentive, courteous, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the night. We started with the calamari, then shared the 16 oz ribeye with mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, sautéed mushrooms, and a couple glasses of wine. Everything was exceptional. We came here last year for my daughter's birthday and she enjoyed the Chilean sea bass, so we came back again this year. ...last year, I felt like it was really crowded and we came on a Saturday evening around 6pm and we sat outside and our table was slanted. The linens on the tables, every staff member we dealt with was superb. My daughter's petite filet mignon was delicious. My chicken was delicious. My husband's prime rib was delicious. The bread was soft and fluffy. (We didn't even get bread last time). I don't think we had so much attention. There was lots of parking. We did come at 7 PM so I don't know if that also played a part. We also ordered as an appetizer, the calamari. Everything was delicious. Five stars all the way, we will definitely come back !!! The birthday girl had the Seabass and she was once again pleased. First time back here since I was a child. Beautifully decorated for the holidays and our server Alexie ( I believe that was her name) was so patient with our group and attentive to our needs. The food was spectacular. We shared the crab cakes and Oysters Rockefeller. I had the short rib that was served over mashed potatoes. So delicious! The rest of the group had steak, prime rib and lamb chops. We shared the signature dessert and we all left with happy bellies and wonderful memories. I highly recommend this place. We had been invited to join our friends to celebrate their 59th wedding anniversary on July 8. We had a great time with our friends and the restaurant was not overly busy for a Wednesday evening. Appetizers were ordered, stuffed mushrooms & cajon shrimp and they were very delicious. Our server Ed, was very attentive as were the other assistants. We all ordered our dinners and here is where it kind of went downhill. Our friend ordered the lobster only and his wife ordered steak & lobster. Our server placed the orders into the kitchen and not too long Ed returned to tell us they only had one lobster left. So it was decided that our friend who wanted the lobster only got the lobster and his wife opted just for the steak. Food was served and when our friend tasted the lobster he immediately stopped as he said the lobster tasted old. He advised Ed who asked if he wanted a replacement of shrimp, and he said no. It spoiled his appetite and so he just ate some mashed potatoes and creamed corn. Very disappointing for our friend who really wanted lobster. The restaurant provided a slice of cheesecake for their anniversary. Now, to me, the one slice was very slim. For the inconvenience they just had, a slice for both of them would have been more appropriate and not cut so slim. My humble opinion is that slice may be something you would have served to a child. They brought 4 forks for us to share that slim piece. The restaurant is always so clean and friendly settings. We all enjoy our favorite server, Ed. What a great place to go for a happy hour. They do happy hour daily from 4:30 to 8 PM. They have an outside dining area or inside dining area and also downstairs area. The menu is packed with a huge selection from seafood to steaks to pastas drinks, appetizers, desserts They've got a little bit of everything this place looks like it's been here for a really long time Old vintage feel and look upscale on the inside. The bartenders are very good at what they do making special unique drinks. The servers are very fast, courteous and helpful all around. It's a fun eating experience great place to go with a larger group as well. We will definitely be back. read more

I was greeted and sat immediately. I loved the old world steakhouse ambience. My server was a bit different, very hyper and spent a lot of time on one table, in fact he had a glass of wine with them. I found it a bit unusual for an establishment of this caliber. I had the short ribs served mashed potatoes and vegetables. This dish was excellent. I found out later it was some of my friend's favorite dish there. I highly suggest it. read more

So disappointed in Sycamore Inn. They haven't been answering their phones. It's become very difficult to make a reservation, which they request. (It used to be "first come, first served" in the bar area, but since the pandemic they have made you have reservations in the bar area, which is the only area of the restaurant that we like.) I made a reservation through OpenTable on their website 5 days ago requesting a booth in bar area. They had confirmed my reservation by text and email. Then they call me an hour and 15 minutes before the reservation (when I'm already on my way to pick up my parents to take them to the restaurant) saying they can't seat us anywhere in the bar area. They confirm twice, then can't honor it an hour before dinner?! Are they trying to force people into the rooms they want? Are they just poorly managed that they don't check their reservation confirmations until the day of, when they were made 5 days ago and autoconfimed? Are they so busy that they don't care about how they treat customers? I don't know what you have to do to get a seat in the bar area. Despite their servers always being fantastic, their management and hosts have been subpar. This is around the 4th time we've had issues with the hosts, reservations, and seating. It's feeling self-abusive to try to go there anymore, despite how much I have loved this kitschy classic joint over the many years. I feel like I'm losing a long-time friend. It's so sad. read more

After being turned away from the Magic Lamp for not dressing up for Prom, my group of 5 hard-working, hungry adults and our 3 babies quickly pivoted across the street to the historic Sycamore Inn. It was an ideallyic summer evening... We were seated on the wide, welcoming patio and promptly handed our menus. The sun setting beautifully behind us with a cool breeze blowing in from the west. Unfortunately, shortly after the promptness disappeared and we experienced wide fluctuations in attention and timeliness. It was several moments before our drink and appetizer order was taken. Then, several more before our appetizers arrived and several more before our drinks arrived. And no bread was offered during any of this. I hate sounding like a whining, petulant child, but let me remind you this restaurant advertises itself as a Prime Steakhouse. You know, the way Fleming's, Ruth's Chris and Mastro's do. Unfortunately, tonight it felt more like Norm's. Too bad my wallet wasn't treated that way, somehow I was still billed at Prime Steakhouse prices. Go figure. read more
