I've been intending to pop in here for years, just enough on the edge of Old-Town Upland to forget about unless you come up 1st Street. The day finally came and chalked it up to reconnaissance, I came, I saw, and I made mental notes. First, there are several businesses sharing this old packing house (it's a genuine one, not faux modern like what Redlands did), so aim for the farthest door to the right when facing from the street. Don't be a dummy like me and try to open a door marked "Employees Only." Once I got situated, I was greeted and shadowed slightly as I explored the wine cellar area, a large room to the left upon entering. Conversation with the fellow working brought some interesting tidbits to light. For example, they close relatively early, even on weekends, so perhaps have dinner nearby, stop through for a cigar, and enjoy the live music. See online social media sites for the schedule. Bands range from jazz, blues, and rock- just go with the flow. They have outdoor seating areas, so you can enjoy cigars in or outside. The humidor is a modest walk-in type, well regulated climate, and a nicely curated selection. I picked one for my humidor at home and browsed their wines. I found the selection and prices to be quite good, and as stated, this was a first-look visit, I saw some things that I will definitely return for. I love this shop. I've been coming here for 10+ years. I introduced this shop to some cigar rep friends of mine that this shop now carries their cigars. Brought a lot of friends here and gave a lot of people their 1st cigar experience here. I was stoked when I heard Mike was taking over as Mike and Gregg have always been the best hosts. I came in last week and Gregg made me not want to come back until he leaves to Wyoming or where ever he said he's going. Just such unwarranted rudeness and aggression from him from the moment I walked in until I left. He was super nice to a guy that works in one of the nearby shops that came in, but gave me a completely different attitude. Just absolutely ridiculous. I've spent thousands here over the years. Used to get phone calls when certain stock would arrive. Since I moved I don't come in as often anymore and guess that means my business is no longer wanted. From Gregg's attitude, scoffing at me, talking to me like he's scolding a child, and telling me straight up he wouldn't sell me a box of cigars for my wedding, I'm not sure what reason I have to support this establishment anymore. Never had an issue buying boxes before, apparently there is one now when the box has significant importance to me. read more

I often come here for cigars as they have Padron cigars at a decent cost. There is a bar for beer, wine and wine cocktails. Outdoor seating for cigars and food is available. I had a fairly good time overall. I don't know if they call it Old Town Upland but it is one of many establishments that do serve alcohol, one or two breweries that are in walking distance. I did notice that they have live bands and a store inside the establishment. Also they do see people smoke cigars out at the patio and sell them as well. As soon as you walk in; you're greeted by very friendly people who are genuinely glad to see you. If you're lucky, you'll stop in while they have a live band playing outside! Their prices are reasonable, it's walking distance from the Upland, California Metrolink station, and it's also walking distance from some pretty good restaurants and bars. Lost a long time customer today. I bought a box of cigars, a lighter, and a bottle of port wine. Over $60. Since wine was not over $20, ($17.99) I Was not allowed to drink my wine unless I paid $10 for a plastic cup. Based on previous experiences I would give 5 stars. Based on last experience I would leave 0 stars if possible so I'm just going to go with 3. I have been coming here at least a few times per month for the last year or so now. My wife and I came in after dinner at 9:15pm on Saturday night. Online says they are open until 10pm. When we arrived there were a few groups at the outside tables smoking and the band was still up on the stage. When we got inside the bartender in the front said they had already done last call. I mentioned that the hours online said 10 but didn't make a big deal of it and we were going to leave. But then he said that just the bar was closing and the shop in the back was still open, witch was fine because I only planned to have a cigar anyway. I went to buy a cigar from the other guy at the register in the back. When I told him I planned to smoke it out on the patio he said the patio was closing. I told him the bartender said it was still open but that it was no big deal and said I was going to put the cigar back and not get it. Then he said that if I could finish it in the next 30 minutes or so before the patio closed that it was fine. I said ok and that that was what I was planning on doing hence the purchase of a smaller cigar. So I completed the purchase and bought a new lighter too. My wife and I walked out to the patio but there was no ashtray at the table we were going to sit at. I went back in and asked the bartender for an ashtray for the table. He looked confused and said that they were closing and I couldn't smoke out there. I told him that when I came in all he said was that the bar was closing and that the guy in the back said I still had til 10pm for the patio and reiterated that the hours online said 10. He started to talk to the guy in the back but by this point I was just starting to get frustrated and just said fuck it and left. It was only 9:30pm when I was left I was only in there for 10 minutes. I could have easily finished my cigar in remaining amount of time and even if I couldn't finish who cares?! It's my cigar and the patio was open til 10! I would have just put it out and left at 10. When we left the band was still there and the patio was still full of people sitting and smoking and finishing drinks. I ended up just smoking the cigar at home on my porch because I had already cut it anyway. The point is that if I wanted to smoke a cigar on the porch by myself I would have just got one from my humidor at home and had it then. But my wife and I felt like going out and I would have preferred to get out smoke in a bit more of a social setting and enjoyed the evening that way. The only reason I purchased the cigar there is because I believed I still had 30-40 minutes to finish it on the patio before the posted closing time of 10pm. But instead I just got a huge run around and ended up spending $17 on a cigar that I didn't even need. I do like this place but after that shit I won't be back for a while. read more

Great time last night Mr.GC and I out and about in downtown Upland. A nice change of scenery. We like having a cigar once in awhile. I came upon this little place awhile back waiting for an appointment. I thought oh!, this would be a neat spot to chill have a smoke and relax with some light live entertainment. It definitely is a happy happening spot. Everyone was helpful. Even the friend of the owner helped us picking out the great selection of cigars to fit both of our styles. Have to say me and the gf came here last night and we had a great time. We got there during there happy hour, its from 5 to 7:30 Monday- Thursday, they have 3 tap beers for $3.50 and cheese plates for $5. I of course tried all 3 my favorite was a Pomona Lager but the other two were IPAs and were delicious, especially for $3.50. My girlfriend got 3 glasses and she enjoyed all of them. The bartender did a great job of asking questions and figuring what she should try next. What I thought was awesome was they had fancy ass vending machines that allowed you to purchase samples of several wines for about $1.25-$2.50 with pre paid cards. We met a very cool regular name Cliff who made us feel very welcomed. They have wine tasting on the last Friday of every month with BBQ so we will definitely be there. read more

This review is meant to only address one aspect of the establishment: the wine bar. Now, don't get me wrong, I love technology. However I feel there is such thing as overuse of a good idea, and this wine bar is victim to that. It has an automatic wine dispenser. Rows of bottles are lined up in a device that will dispense a perfect one ounce pour of a wine of your choice with the swipe of a "wine debit card". Not your debit card mind you. You need to buy a wine card, load it up, and then you may sample to your hearts content. Here is my core issue with this device: I want to talk to people about what I am drinking. When my boyfriend and I selected a wine to try, instead of fun chit-chat over the pour, the bar-tender walked to the machine, placed the glasses under the spigot and pushed the button. It was done, and so was I. read more

On New Years Eve day, me and my honey drove past Pacific Wine Merchants when he asks if I want to stop and go in. Does a monkey want a banana? Does a squirrel want a nut? Does a dog want his bone? Of course I want to stop and go in! Stop teasing me! Pull over NOW! And so begins our exploration of this man cavish type establishment. We first enter a room that looks like an outdated den with a bar (hence the man cave description). At said bar, they serve the adult beverage I dislike the most (beer) as well as the adult beverage I like the most (wine). What a conundrum! Then we walk through to the next room which contains a gazillion bottles of fine wine. From the low end of the price range to the incredibly high you could feed a village at that price range. Also saw a pretty impressive assortment of IPA beers even though I don't like the stuff. Off to the side is another smaller, claustrophobic sized room containing cigars and such. I did not enter that room but could imagine all the interesting manly smells and such in there. Plenty of staff on hand to assist you with selecting your drink or smoke of choice and to laugh AT or laugh WITH you as your private discussions illustrate your sheer ignorance of the product(s). After romping through rows and rows of vino, I select a modestly price Pinot Grigo highly rated by Wine Spectator. But for my honey, no way! If he's going to imbibe, he's going for it with the higher end stuff. He selects an imported 2007 red wine from Italy. We share this bottle at our DIY New Years Eve dinner at home. I'm not even going to try to translate (mangle) the name or all the Italian language on the label. See the picture and simply trust me when I say this stuff must be the nectar of the gods! I think I even heard angelic singing when I took my first sip. Now I'm ruined! How the heck am I supposed to drink that stockpile of swill I have collected from local wineries, friends, family, and of course, BevMo?! Ugh! Well, as they say, it's a tough job, but someone's got to do it! So I will do it, but at the same time, plotting, scheming, planning to get back to this mother land for some more of that nectar of the gods! read more
