Hot like the original! It's really cool to be able to get the NYC experience so close to home in Atlanta! Boss lady Luc is keeping everything in order. Restaurant is very clean and there are a ton of staff around. I counted over 10! Either way that adds up to a fast experience. The entire staff was really great and they seemed to get along well and treat folks nicely. One thing I wish they could do is fill up the bowls and wraps a bit more fully like they do in NYC. No need to do stingy over a few grams of rice, looks like other folks pointed this out in other reviews too. read more

This place is seriously such a gem. We went for the grand opening and had to wait 2 1/2 hours for the food, but it was well worth it! Ambience: They had a DJ playing a variety of music and a backdrop to take photos in front of for social media. There was also a woman who worked there that was hyping everybody up and had extremely contagious energy. As far as inside the actual establishment, it's fairly small but the food is still wonderful after it has been sitting in the car and taken home. Food: I got the regular combo platter (chix + gyro meat) as well as a side of falafel. The meat was perfectly seasoned and the lettuce/tomatoes that came with the platter were extremely fresh! The falafal was also perfect spiced and was fairly large. It was only $1 for a box of two. Service: Everyone was down-to-earth and answered every question we had. The man posted at the front door delegating traffic was nice and was extremely knowledgable as far as the food went. All in all, The Halal Guys never disappoints. 10/10- would recommend. I've been here a handful of times within the past year. The food is always good and the staff is always friendly, patient, and helpful. I usually get the Combo Platter, chicken and gyro. The amount of food you get it always more than enough, and the ingredients are fresh. However, with the amount of similar cuisine restaurants popping up all across town, it hard to see what distinguishes Halal Guys from another gyro shop. Yay! The Halal Guys are in Atlanta! My husband and I have spent many a weekends eating from the Halal Guys food truck in NYC. If you haven't been, it is a food truck with a long line where they cook the food fresh and you have to pay in cash. Despite that, and the fact that they are open 8pm - 8am, there is always a line. It's delicious. So, onto the Atlanta location. I like that they have seating and no line. However, I didn't like how the food was pre-prepared. Everything I know about Halal Guys is that they make it fresh for you right there. I think they also tried to charge us extra for the sauces which should be free (we took the food to go). Overall I'm not sure I'll be coming back on a frequent basis, but it is a fun place to go after you've had some drinks and just want some halal food :) read more

The quality has gone way way down over the years. This is NO WHERE near what you would expect from the original Halal Guys in NYC. When this location first opened they came pretty close however as stated, over time there is absolutely no flavor. The rice and meat are totally and absolutely bland and flavorless. The white sauce has a weird sweet after taste and the hot sauce is....not hot. Just a weird tangy. It's a shame this location let the quality get this bad and that they have the audacity to price gouge on top of it. Save yourself the disappointment. read more

My first time there I didn't know what to get they were patient and I decided on a platter lol I felt like rice and salad lol that white sauce was AMAZING definitely try that sh!t. I love Halal food and eat it frequently in New York but this was some of the most disgusting food I've ever had in my life. The food was cold and the meat (lamb & chicken) was dry as cowhide. Unfortunately, I ordered 3 plates but will have to bear eating it tomorrow just because I've already spent the money. Having tried the original Halal guys in NYC, I was excited to hear about a location coming to Atlanta, 2 years later it's still a great go-to for casual gyro. The employees are not always friendly or helpful, but the food makes up for it. I typically go for the combo plate, which includes rice, lettuce, gyro meat, chicken, a few pita slices and your choice of onion, green onion and bbq sauce, white sauce and hot (SUPER SPICY) sauce. Seriously one line of the hot sauce will light up your meal. The large is big enough for leftovers and only $1 more than the smaller plate. A side of fries is massive, definitely shareable with 2+ people. Great tasting food, get take away if you don't like the in restaurant environment. read more

The New York cart that has finally made its way to Atlanta lived up to the billing. Sure...it will never quite be the one in New York, but that is to be expected. For what it is, this is a five star worthy stop and a great addition to Buford Hwy. I came on a Saturday afternoon and ordered the combo chicken and steak platter. Based on the other food that was ordered at our table including the chicken gyro and falafel platter I cannot imagine getting anything else when I return. The platter was a base of rice and topped with steak and chicken that were both extremely flavorful and tender. The toppings including lettuce, tomato and bell pepper were crisp and fresh. Be sure to add their famous white and hot sauce on top! There is not much that I would change, but the only complaint is that they do upcharge on quite a few additional toppings with platters and gyros. I give this place a solid three stars. I'd stop by if I happen to be in the area craving some gyro meat, but I am not sure I would drive out of my way to stop here regularly. The long lines from the opening have finally died down. You can place your order and get your food fairly quickly now. There is also plenty of seating with the smaller crowds. I always feel like the meat is a little dry and overcooked. The meat is well seasoned though. I always get the gyro platter with rice, some veggies and the meat. The white sauce is fantastic so I just drench my entire platter in the white sauce and up the calorie count by about 1000. I haven't been to the originals in NYC so I am curious to see if it is the same as the brick and mortar locations. Will try to check it out sometime when I'm visiting and the lines are not crazy ridiculous. read more

Let me just start out by saying that I fell in love with The Halal Guys long ago one cold day in New York City. Picture this, a tiny food cart, lines as long as the eye can see, and piping hot food being served in aluminum containers with the scent of the hot sauce wafting off of it. The owners/cooks are nice, generous and funny. It's everything you could want in a food cart meal. This location is not that. While the food is slightly reminiscent of my favorite street food in NYC, it comes no where close. The toppings are not as fresh (weird right, given that it's an actual restaurant), the proteins that they serve are not treated with the same reverence that the little NYC cart has for their meat, and the customer service is just a bit odd and haphazard. Overall, this food hits the spot if you have a craving for greasy, saucy and spicy food. Dont come expecting to relive your NYC adventures though. You will be disappointed. read more

Horrible. Nowhere near the same as the original in New York. Workers/Owners are taking shortcuts. Went in at 8pm... 3 hours before closing. They turned off their cooking surface where normally the chicken and beef would be finished off and cooked to perfection. But instead they had all the meat options pre-cooked (not even fully cooked) sitting in containers. I got a combo plate and it was the most horrible food I've ever eaten in my life. Rice was extremely salty and has a funny after-taste. The chicken was marinated in some yogurt sauces and you can tell it was half-ass bc the coating wasn't even fully cooked through. Tasted like they wanted to make sure whatever was served to customer was still juicy, but they didn't take into account that it wasn't even fully cooked through yet!!!Disgusting!!! The chicken were in these big random hunks, rather than chopped shredded and chopped small like in NY. The beef wasn't chopped into smaller bits and crispy like how it is in NY.. the gyro here had a super gamey taste and you could tell that wasn't even fully cooked through. I ordered fries and you could tell from the taste that they haven't changed their frying oil in a long time.. had after taste of other foods. Disgusting. The bread tasted doughy and definitely needed to be toasted. This is a sorry excuse or rather a sloppy imitation of the true Halal Guys in NY. This location puts the franchise to shame. I threw away 75% of my plate bc I couldn't even get through it. My stomachs rumbling now I gotta get home. Why do people in Atlanta have such low standards for food? I had the chicken and beef platter. It was yummy! I drove three hours from South Carolina to try it and was NOT disappointed. The staff were very helpful and friendly, making jokes and making each customer feel welcomed. Portion sizes were great for the price paid and food was well cooked. The staff was very friendly making sure that I knew what I was getting and what to expect. I was asked multiple times if I wanted spicy sauce (I said yes each time) and when I was eating I realized maybe I should have said no very hot! But even that was a good spicy. Okay so I'm originally from NY and I've craved Halal food truck food for the longest. Now I've never actually had their branded food before because the line was always long in NY but I'm no longer there so I figured I'd give it a try. To my delight it tasted exactly how I was hoping it was and it wasn't some knock off hipster, fake, mock version of the food which lacks salt or the kick like the original idea most gentrified places try to make a trend. Not only is the food very good but the people there are very kind and have a good attitude. It's always an upbeat and delightful air in the place. The only other thing I can say is if you're not used to spicy, heed their warning about the pepper sauce. That thing is hot. Ok so finally made the trek here from midtown to get me some halal. I'm from Jamaica ny and we have carts and shops all over. Shouts to Halal bros and halal munchies. This place doesn't live up to the ny halal standards. The first thing I noticed was the rice. Didn't taste or look like the traditional halal rice you'll find from the shops in queens that the Afghans run. The chicken didn't have the Indian spices on it either. Just not a fan of this place. Just felt like I was at a regular line shop like chipotle or something. The sauces were ok. The beef/lamb was cooked on the spindle thing which I liked. If you are from nyc/queens you'll be very unpleased. If you don't much to compare to, this'll do just fine. Oh and last thing, you can't have black folk cooking up halal. My husband and I went to Halal Guys on a week night and we had to wait in line for about 20 minutes. The place was packed and the smell of the food cooking made our mouth water! I was so excited that I didn't mind waiting the 20 minutes. I got the gyro plate with the sauce on the side. My husband got the gyro wrap with white sauce and hot sauce. Once we got out food there wasn't a table available so we took it to go. My husband ate his in the car on the way home. It was super messy and underwhelming. The pita tasted store bought and stale. I ate mine once I got home. It wasn't terrible it was just very average. The lettuce was not fresh, tomatoes weren't ripe, rice was cold and beef was chewy. Even if the food was identical ... the experience from the stand in NY air, next to a busy intersection, with skyscrapers all around will make any food 100x better... because IT'S NEW YORK!? With that said, this place is awesome! The service is quick and nice, the food portions are ginormous, and the price is reasonable. I haven't had a bad experience here. I've had just the beef platter & the combo (beef & chicken) -- both are good. They give you the option of adding a bunch of other veggies (onions, bell peppers, others), but the original way it comes is perfect for me. Definitely get extra pita bread on the side! This is one of my daughter's favorite places to eat. She asks for it once a week but we don't go often bc it is ITP and we are OTP. But whenever I do go ITP I try and get it to go for her. We usually get the platters or gyros. I've been here many times from when they first opened and waited in line for 45 min til now. In the beginning I would of given a 4 but today I got it to go and it's a 2. Sorry Halal, Halal (as my daughter calls it) I just ordered a combo plate and it was like more than half filled with lettuce. The gyro was very sparse as well. I couldn't believe it bc it is usually loaded and I can make 2 meals out of it. Even the rice didn't taste quite right and was more on the harder side. Dear Halal, Please go back to the way you were.
