I got two- a glazed (I think it was called honey dipped) and something that looked like a sour cream donut but was supposed to be all chocolate. The honey dipped tasted slightly better than a honey bun from a vending machine, but was the say consistency. The chocolate donut was so moist it was wet. I tried to break a piece off and I was left with wet dough. On top of that it had no flavor. On the recommendation of a running bud, I came here to try their Apple Fritters, and also ordered a BLT sandwich. Not much to speak of from the interior, but the service by two Vietnamese mom and pops was splendid. The prices are fair, and it is clear that the family that owns this establishment put their heart into it. Where they fall flat: I was cashed out by an 8-year old. A child that couldn't be older than 14 made my sandwich, and for being the only customer, it took about 15 minutes. For the location (directly across from Chamblee High School), it seemed completely devoid of personality or connections. No music in the store, no art or decorations. The baked goods were completely cleaned out and empty when I was there, too. I love places like this so much. It makes no sense in the best way. Extremely unassuming, weirdly named donut and sub sandwich store (would not call a restaurant really). Vietnamese decorations (and soap operas on the very broken TV) and no Vietnamese food in sight. Mom and pop shop literally. There are tables and chairs, but we usually take our stuff to go. Took my in-laws here and the donuts were phenomenal and FRESH FILLED which was a great change of pace. Sub sandwiches are of great quality. The prices here are undefeated. Came a little later in the day and so many flavors were sold out already. That's when you know it's goood! The service was so friendly and nice. I got the blueberry filled, twist and the chocolate frosted. These donuts were so good and fresh! The twist was the perfect bite! It was so soft and not super dense. We're from out of state and needed a comfortable/non-adventurous meal before our 5 hour flight. Found this dandy (no pun intended) place and it was great. Ordered 2 Italian 7" subs, 2 diet cokes and a bag of chips for way less than we're used to paying. Service and food was great. We would definitely barely stop again when we're in town! Cheat Day! I had a taste for an apple fritter with my coffee this morning and my mouth was set on an apple fritter from the Publix bakery. They are/were GOOD! Fresh-baked, inexpensive and enough to settle my craving for a sweet treat. Alas, I was saddly informed that "they no longer sell them sigularly. They come in six-packs..." UGH! Mind you I COULD eat six BUT I cannot blow my week of eating clean. Gotta stay on my game. So, what did I do? I Googled "Apple fritters near me..." and I found this place. Let me tell you, I need to sue Publix for FRAUD...LOL. These apple fritters are THE REAL DEAL! The apple fritters are FRESH, BILLOWY-SOFT and just plain DELICIOUS! My only criticism is they could stand a little more apple, not much, just a little but that is it. Otherwise, totally worth it. A must try. They are a little out of the way, thankfully. I was in the area and wanted to try something that I could not try on my side of town. After a little research I opted for something that I would not ordinarily go for. What I mean by that is that it was clear that this place is no frills. I walked in and there was only one patron in the shop on a Friday afternoon. Given the great reviews I really anticipated a larger crowd. As I noted above, this place is no frills. It honestly appears that the owners may occasionally live out of the place. It's filled with what I would call house plants. I even saw what I imagine is their mode of transportation to work every day- bikes! I wanted to try a sub and donuts. I figured it would not be a place I would be back to anytime soon given it's proximity to my side of town. I ordered a sub and two donuts. The sun was decent. Nothing to write home about. The donuts- I did not care for. They honestly tasted stale and just not good. If I were in the area and need a basic meal I guess I would come in for a sub. I went here around 12:39 and got the turkey sandwich. I wanted to get a donut, but unfortunately there weren't many lady. I don't know if they're just that good and sold by that time or if that was all that was made. *the turkey sandwich had all the great stuff in in (lettuce, tomato, mayo, mustard) but it was very dry. They do add little mustard and mayo and I asked for more but they don't do packets.. maybe I should have asked for it in a container, but I didn't think that far ahead, so when it was eating it, I didn't enjoy it because of how dry it was. This is a mom and pop shop which sells fresh daily made donuts and great subs. They have a good selections of donuts. The glazed donuts are not too sugary and have a similar taste of the famous KK donuts. If you have a sweet tooth and need a fix this is the place to go. The twist donuts are light with a good glaze and melts in your mouth, great with coffee or any drink. The boston Cream is to die for. They fill their donuts with a good amount of filler ( cream, or jelly) and it is so good. The creams are rich and light. I love their plain cake donuts. The best thing to know is that the donuts tastes just as good as the day before. I always buy a dozen for a few days and I am never disappointed. this is my second time trying this place anc both times I had a problem and couldn't get any food. Trying to get breakfast from the grill. First time I went there about two weeks ago the one employee who didn't speak any English spoke to a customer who relayed the information that the person who cooks food on the grill was driving their child to school and will be back shortly. Fast-forward to today I thought I would give it another shot. There was only one employee there who didn't speak any English. She got on the phone and put somebody on the phone to say the grill is not open right now. 6:10am. There was another customer there and I asked him if he could translate and he said he didn't speak any Spanish. as I was leaving, I saw both of them pointed me and laugh. I wanted to go back and ask what was so funny but I didn't want to be that guy. I haven't come back for the subs, but will. So, in the name of science, I ate three donuts in my first sitting at this little shop, out of the half dozen (and a very regular coffee) I bought. Bavarian Cream - a good example, fairly standard, maybe the bread-y part was a bit sweeter than usual. Kind of King's Hawaiian level. The cream was rich, not overpowering. Solid. A few notches above what you'd get at Dunkin, but not terribly memorable. Sour Cream - I actually like when a sour cream donut is a bit more dense than this one, which crumbled a bit, and didn't hold together. It was uncomplicated, good, not great. Cream Cheese - now *this* changed my opinion entirely, at least in terms of my assessment of the place as a whole from a nice local spot to somewhere worthy of a drive. The bread/cake portion had great consistency and the filling had a wonderful consistency and a rich filling that had perfect mouth feel and a complex, but appropriately sweet, taste. The cream cheese donut alone justifies a decent drive to check this place out. Other people ordered Honey Dip donuts, which seem to be glazed - I have one in the half dozen box, but my daughter will probably eat it when I get home. Apple Fritters, etc. I'm sure are all good, but if there are more things on the level of the cream cheese donut, this is a real hidden gem. As noted, I'll come back for the subs, another time. I saw a steady, but not overwhelming, stream of customers on this overcast/drizzly Saturday. [update:] I came again to buy another half dozen for someone who I forgot was gluten intolerant - so I got to eat most of these yet again. In this case, I showed up late-ish, for donuts, 11 AM, and most of the options were gone. As a result, I tried 3 new kinds. I had the chocolate covered sour cream, which actually turned out to be an excellent version of a sour cream donut, so I think the one from the prior day was the exception rather than the rule. There was the solid chocolate, which had a nice sugar crusted outer layer and a tasty inside, but I will say it wasn't as chocolatey as I expected. More like a red velvet cake. I had the plain donut, as well. This can be the real test of a bakery, because there's nothing beyond the baking itself, and this was probably the best I've had - though I don't often go for them, to be honest. Also, and I'm not sure of the name, there's another pastry that was in there, which was very good. Hard to go wrong here. Still haven't had the subs. My daughter didn't save me a bite of the honey glazed even though I asked her to. [second update:] I have had the honey dip at this point, and it was good. Not hot glazed Krispy Kreme level, but very good for a non-hot glazed. I also managed to try a Philly cheesesteak sub, which was decent but not special. I rated both of the businesses, run by the same couple, an overall 4 stars. R and I came here for lunch the other day. Parking in the free parking lot was readily available. It's shared by the other neighboring businesses in a very small strip mall. Entering the store/restaurant, it looks like a donut shop and kitchen were built at the back of someone's large sunroom that has a big collection of various sizes of potted plants against the front windows. The roomy (but mostly blocked off from seating) dining area takes up the front half of the store. Farther back is the donut shop on the left, and the non-donut part of the store is on the right. Customers need to order on the respective sides; however, the Point of Sale is on the donut shop side. The woman employee was very nice, quick and efficient. She also brought our food to our table soon after we had ordered at the counter. The menu features sandwiches (subs), hot dogs, salads, chips, canned and bottled drinks - all on the right side of the store. The donut shop features a good variety of deliciousness, such as donuts (of course!), bagels, cinnamon rolls, apple fritters, croissants, and other items. What caught my eye on the menu was the cost of a dozen filled donuts: $12.49. Huh? I'll be back in the future for those. R and I ordered The Italian subs, which is described on the menu as "Italian Meats and Cheese." On my sub, I got everything possible on it, per the menu - lettuce, tomato, onion, mustard, mayo, and "our secret Italian dressing." So, I wasn't sure exactly which meats and cheese I had ordered, but it was good, and, at $5.19, it was certainly a bargain. There was a nice amount of meats and cheese, and everything else, in the sandwich. Was it the best tasting? No. But at that price point, I really couldn't complain. I went to the donut side to pay for our subs before another employee made them, and, seeing the donuts just sitting there in the racks, couldn't help but buy one for each of us: Boston Cream for me and an old fashioned glazed for R - to go. We ate them later, and we both agreed that the donuts were great (and at great individual prices). I'm pretty sure that I'll be back to get a dozen sometime. I'll have to remember that they don't accept AmEx cards. Two 7" subs, a can of Coke, a bottle of water, a small bag of chips, a Boston Cream donut and an old fashioned glazed donut, and I walked away from the cash register after paying $16.92, including tip. Note, $.25 cent charge on any credit transaction so either stock up on donuts or pay up with cash. I was so excited to get home and eat these donut delights. I had ended up with a jelly donut, a sugar donut (powdered sugar), a French cruller, a chocolate glazed sour creme donut, a chocolate glazed chocolate donut, a honey glazed donut, a blueberry cake donut and a buttermilk donut. They were about half and half glazed and cake. These reminded me of a glorified Dunkin Donuts. Definitely better than Dunkin in execution, but same concept. The cruller has got to be my favorite: light, fluffy, a little buttery and greasy, but super easy to eat and goes well with the homemade cold brew I had at home. Very fresh! SO good! You wouldn't think this is a donut place because of the name but on Google Maps it's called "Sub-base Dandy Donuts". We only got two donuts so I'd love to go back & try more, but we enjoyed what we got. I got the chocolate iced sour cream donut which was super moist & delicious. My sister got the cinnamon twist which was... a cinnamon twist. Love that it's local & family owned. It's also very cheap (I think each donut was around a dollar or a little more).
