I love this place a lot. They have a very tasty menu. My favorite donut is the Maple Sea Salt but the bread pudding donut is dense and delicious. This location is in the Summerville area which is heavily changing. There's a new Publix across the street and many new things withing walking distance. They have an outdoor patio behind Pete's Hotdogs but also some cozy inside seating if you like the old hamburger shop with countertop service. Their burgers are worth noting as well as their breakfast sandwiches. They add a bit of their own flare with a pepper jam on their breakfast sandwiches, which if you're into putting jam on your breakfast biscuits, that might interest you a bit. I'm not big into that, and I still enjoy it. The burgers and chicken sandwiches are also using fresh buns with fresh ingredients which you can't really find a lot of places in the city making their own buns. Most will use Martins, which i'm not complaining about those, but to find a fresh made bun hamburger in these times is amazing. They make HANDS DOWN the BEST sausage, egg, and cheese breakfast sandwich that I have EVER had the pleasure of having! The sesame seed bun seems to be made from scratch, and is crusty on the outside and chewy and fluffy on the inside. The pork sausage patty is moist, tasty, and juicy without falling apart, and very well seasoned. The egg was fried to perfection, and although there was a bit of runny yolk, it was not so much that it soaked the bun or made the sandwich needlessly messy. The sweet and tangy Hero Pepper Jelly is the perfect foil to the fried egg, cheese, and sausage, and for lovers of all things sweet and salty (such as myself), it amplifies the flavors of this sandwich to the next level. AND I had this delivered by Uber Eats, and it arrived late, but it still tasted ridiculously yummy, so I can't even imagine how good their food is in person! read more

Updating my review to add for savory items on the menu and a dine-in experience! There is plenty of seating. We came during a busy rush (noon on Sunday) and still had decently quick service, friendly as well, and were able to snag a table inside with no problems! The burgers here are really good!! Almost a smash burger style, with the fresh toasted bun, great toppings, we will be back for more savory items here!! I've visited this place on several occasions. I love its addition to Summerhill and the variety. We've tried most of the donuts! Loved every one of them, but am a lover of the peanut butter!! My go to lunch order is the chicken sandwich. I usually just get the black coffee, and they even have carafes if you are wanting to get coffee for up to 10 people! It comes with cups and stirrers, etc. The location is great and as of now there is ample free parking across the street! They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Got to try Hero Doughnuts and Buns located near the Trilith Studios! When first entering, I enjoyed the retro style interior design. I came with a large group and the staff was very accommodating and had a great attitude! We decided to try an assortment of donuts and I selected the hash brown platter with chicken added. They had fun donut flavors and I had a chance to try the tiramisu donut which was pretty good. I appreciate that it wasn't too overwhelmingly sweet, and the cream filled inside helped balance the icing on top. I also enjoyed the hash brown platter as each hashbrown "cube" was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. The egg was cooked perfectly, and I opted to have chicken with this dish. A ton of delicious donut shops are popping up in Atlanta but Hero is definitely my HERO. When Hero moved into Summerhill, I was skeptical about a donut chain coming into Atlanta - and boy was I wrong. I love a soft brioche donut and Hero Doughnuts are definitely soft and fluffy. Grab a kolache (jalapeño is my fave!) or a homewood donut (strawberries and creme is a classic combo). Parking is available in the back and on the street, but there's also plenty of free public parking all around Summerhill. PRO TIP #1: cinnamon rolls are only available on Saturdays, so get them before they sell out! PRO TIP #2: they've got mimosas and aperol spritzes for $7 on the menu on weekends which is the perfect way to start the day with a donut. The food was decent but the portions were smaller than expected, especially given the higher prices. Burgers and chicken sandwiches arrived quickly and were finished before a salad even made it to the table, which made the timing feel off. I was in the downtown area and needed a spot to check out for breakfast. Due to a stopped train in a train track that diverted me from my first choice, I ended up at hero. History: based on my quick research I determined that this spot originated in Alabama in 2017. It started out as a pop up shop. They pride themselves on using brioche style, yeast for the doughnuts and bread. Today, they have 6 brick and mortar locations serving breakfast plates, burgers, salads, and of course doughnuts! You can also order coffee drinks and crunchy cocktails. Parking: honestly, I don't know if I parked in the right spot, however, there is a lot at the rear of the restaurant . The spots are limited, but luckily we scored one! I did not see any place to pay, so I assume it's free parking. The inside of this spot is small! There are tables, but not a ton. They also have a cute patio and it would be perfect in warm days! You order your food and pay at the register. If you are dinning in you will be given a number so they can bring your order to your table. The staff taking our order was nice. She helped me decide on a doughnut to try. I ordered the folded egg and cheese bun. It is only $5. However, she asked me what meat I wanted and I said chicken sausage. To add the meat is an additional $3.00. I also ordered a cup of coffee and a bread pudding doughnut. My mom ordered the Hero breakfast plate with chicken sausage. The total came up to like $27 prior to me adding a tip. The food was brought to our table in about 10 minutes. My mother immediately noticed that they failed to give her the chicken salad with her plate. They also did not provide me with my coffee cup or my doughnut. When I received my cup I went to pour coffee in my cup from the drink station. They had options for both pat and almond milk. Both containers were empty. Remind you it was only about 9am in a Saturday. Maybe they just forgot to refill after the early morning rush? The food was good. Nothing that I will be driving from my side of town to get. However, if I am in the area I would not be opposed to stopping for a bite to eat in the future. A few things to note- the hash browns are more like very think diced potatoes and NOT your tradition shredded potato hash browns. The doughnut I tried had an interesting consistency and taste. Cute little niche spot that seems to get a lot of foot traffic. I've only ever been for breakfast and always been satisfied with the "made-to-order" freshness and quality of the food (I really like the toasted buns that they use for their sandwiches). The service is solid, but not exceptional and the parking lot in the back may be spotty depending on when you go. The doughnuts, though good, are a bit pricey and probably not worth the associated price tag, but that's more of a subjective thing (I'm certainly goin' elsewhere for doughnuts!). Overall, I have no outstanding gripes or complaints - I can dig it! read more

He did not want to let me taste his lol I got one little nibble (a third of the piece pictured lol) and the flavor was spot on not that fake tasting flavor you can often get. My donut delivered on the almond joy theme with almonds coconut & chocolate drizzle. But the place just didn't seem clean enough for me. I only saw children staff no real adult looking person & one of them was wiping their mouth, but never washed their hands, the bathroom wasn't up to par. Their Health score is teetering at a 90/91 and mentions both the hand washing & the toilet facilities so maybe management should be working on aspects highlighted by the Health Inspector. The restaurant tabletops were not clean but there is a little covered area between this spot and another business with picnic tables & a fan and it was a cute to sit there & vibe. read more

Came by here after visiting next door Hot Dog Pete's. Figured I was in the neighborhood from out of town, so might as well make it count! Fun fact: I was excited to learn this concept originated in Birmingham. Home state represent! The inside is cute and bright and colorful. It's also connected to a large patio with lots of seating. There's limited free parking behind the restaurant, so that's nice, too. There was still a decent selection of doughnuts around noon on a Friday. They also serve "real" food too, like burgers, if you want a meal. I selected a coconut doughnut for myself and was in and out quickly! The staff member who checked me out was very pleasant and smiley. I didn't eat it until a few hours later so perhaps that contributed some to its deterioration, but personally I thought it was...fine. Huge caveat: I'm honestly not a huge doughnut person. I like them okay but they're generally not my top priority for a treat. And as far as doughnuts for me go, this one was just okay. I thought the dough/breading was a little dry and dense. It was pretty chewy and not the airy light texture I usually associate with yeast doughnuts. The coconut glaze was a little too sweet for my preference too, but on the bright side there were ample coconut flakes and those were tasty. If I came back I'd probably try something off their food menu rather than getting another doughnut, but YMMV! read more

I think they could have cut back on the sweetness just a little but with coffee it'd be great! I would recommend the filled doughnuts over the regulars though. The service was a bit off. They forgot my hashbrowns twice. The person taking the initial order was nice. However when we got our food we noticed we didn't get our hashbrowns. So we told them and they said they'd have it right out. 10min later we still didn't get it so we went back to the counter spoke with the SAME gentleman and he admitted to completely forgetting again. When we finally did get them they were good. They were tasty and crisp. The egg and cheese sandwich was also good. It had a spicy jelly that complimented it well. I like to find a donut shop in each city/state I visit and I'm finding that brioche donuts are just TOP TIER! Which is exactly what they serve here. I decided to visit Hero Doughnuts & Buns for lunch during a day filled with photoshoots and this was a great choice. Upon arrival, I proceeded to the parking lot behind the restaurant which was free. But I noticed street spots available for pickup only. I walked into the restaurant and noticed quite the crowd but I was still next in line. I ordered my Hero burger and drink immediately (and noticed the delicious doughnuts I have to go back for). They give you a table marker if you are eating at the restaurant to place on the table you choose where they bring the food out to you. I ended up sitting outside since it was a beautiful day and they brought the food out. It was a little bit of a wait for the food. To the point where I started wondering when it will come. Also, I ordered a drink as they didn't have water for purchase (which I would've preferred). And they didn't give me my cup right away. I ended up having to ask for one after my food came out. What a waste of $2.50. But the food was great. It wasn't too much where you would feel stuffed but just enough. Plus it was really tasty. I will go back for doughnuts. Was getting ready for a quick road-trip and wanted to pickup a quick bite and this place was right on the way! I placed my order through an app and the food was ready for pickup within 10 min or less. The kolache sausage and cheese was delicious! Brioche dough is always a win in my book, it's a light buttery bread so you can't go wrong with that. The sausage and cheese was tasty, I put mustard on it and that twang set everything off. The cheese looked like it was infused in the sausage itself too. I would love to see this item with eggs lol. The strawberry glaze doughnut wasn't what was pictured on the app. On the app it looks like the entire brioche doughnut was dipped in a strawberry glaze but as you can see it wasn't. Stopped in to grab some to go. I went with the blueberry lemon crumb, banana pudding and the peanut butter crunch. All 3 were still somewhat fresh about 12 hours after I ordered them. The PB crunch was good. Little pieces of Reese's and some other round chocolate confection. Can't go wrong. The banana pudding was just ok for me. Im not really a banana fan when it comes to pastries. But it wasn't horrible. Plenty of filling.
