I was wandering the Krog Street Market for the first time and wasn't sure what to eat for lunch. I checked for recommended using AI and it suggested two restaurants (one which wasn't open yet) and Fred's. Since I was by myself I went with Fred's and ordered the Korean Cheesesteak and Pommes Frites. They said it would take 15 min but it ended up being closer to 7 min. Here's what I thought: - Korean Cheesesteak - OK. That first bite was all about big flavour, but after a few bites, I felt it was overly rich. - Pomme Frites - Good. Good quality, but got soggy fast. Finding a table to ear at the Market as the place is very busy and lively. I ended up finding an open spot at a standing counter. Overall. It was just OK for me. I'm also not a fan of when bread has too many sesame seeds on it. We both agreed that ordering a regular cheesesteak or maybe even a burger probably would have been better. The staff was kind enough to give us complimentary garlic fries (possibly extra from someone else's order), but we weren't a fan of those either. Super garlicky but not salted at all. This was my first visit here and it won't be the last. This place was delicious. The customer service was good. And the food was fresh and came out super fast. We ordered the garlic Parmesan fries, a burger, and the Korean cheese steak. I'm typically a picky eater when it comes to onions and other toppings on my sandwich. Best fries in my life I normally would never do a Yelp review for a one-time visit but literally the old bay seasoned fries with tartar sauce were nearly life changing. I've eaten many fries in my life but these literally were the best ever. Thick cut, I was surprised that they were fried to perfection. No thick fry mush. Pro-tip: Skip the line and order online for pickup. Staff was friendly on pickup and I didn't have to stand around for 30 minutes. Bonus is that their burger is also fab. I had both to-go and planned on devouring hours later but my sample of the fries made me go all in on them. I had half the burger on the run and it was really pretty darn perfect too. Stumbled upon this cheesesteak shop at Krog Market Street and learned that they appeared on Michelin Bib Gourmand! Even though they're famous for their cheesesteak, I still prefer their Blackened Salmon better because of the peppery spicy taste, juicy salmon patty, and fresh and nutty arugula. Plus, $12.25 is pretty worth it IMO for a salmon burger *that* good. Will definitely be back for the burger! They have an online ordering system or an in-person ordering. After all the years I've been coming to Krog Street Market, I finally tried Fred's Meat & Bread--and I was not disappointed. The service was great. The young lady at the front was especially helpful since it was my first time. She walked me through the menu and helped me decide on the Korean cheesesteak. You can choose chicken or ribeye, and of course I went with ribeye because I'm definitely a steak girl. Naturally, I had to get fries. They have so many good options: hand-cut fries, garlic fries & ranch, pommes frites with aioli, Old Bay fries with tartar sauce, and truffle Parmesan fries with aioli. I went with the Old Bay fries, and that seasoning was the perfect touch. Both the cheesesteak and the fries were a total home run. I opted out of the jalapeños, but there was still a slight kick--just a heads up if you're not into spice. Still, it was absolutely delicious and very filling. Dee wanted to show us a portion of Atlanta, and she mentioned that she liked the burgers that Fred's offers. Neal and I were open to anything that we couldn't find in Virginia, so off we went Ponce Street Market and proceeded to walk from Ponce Street to Krog Street. For the Hampton Roads, VA locals, Fred's is reminiscent of the old Norfolk Waterside and its many eateries. Fred's is small - just big enough for a kitchen and front counter. There is some bar seating, but there is community seating inside Krog Street Market (this venue used to be a factory for making stoves). We arrived just before a lunch rush, so our wait wasn't long. Dee had the cheesesteak (which was massive and full of sliced ribeye), Neal had the Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich, and I had the Burger Stack. We split an order of Garlic Fries - Neal was the only one who actually finished his sandwich. Fred's puts out some quality food and, despite the hot and humid weather, it was worth the 1.3 mile walk. I was ready to call it a day, but Neal and I still had to head over to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for VT v. South Carolina! Customer service 10/10 all the girls were so sweet and attentive to the customers at the counter and whilst taking orders. Line moved quick. I loved the set up of their shop, you could see your order coming up. They had stools at the counter so you could sit right there it was very inviting. I am so sad I didn't just get the blackened salmon sandwich, the man next to me ordered it and when it came out my heart broke it smelt so hotlanta goodt!!! The italian grinder, the bread was phenomenal and the spicy peppers added some jazz to it but the vinegar on the sandwich outweighed all the other ingredients. The fries were so yummy! I volunteered to drive a friend to the airport this morning, and the timing was perfect for us to show up at Krog Street Market just as they opened at 11:30. I stood at the front of the line with my friend, as we plotted out what we would get. We decided to split the OG (I always get extra cheese), and the Korean cheesesteak, which has candied jalapeños and gochujang sauce for a sweet and spicy kick. We knew the fries were a lot, but I always go with the old bay with tartar sauce, and always get an extra one because the fries portion is made to share! Sat at the bar for the first time, while we waited for our food I ran over to get some desserts at Little Tart Bake Shop, and a Diet Coke from Gu's. All set! Laraib was working the register and taking orders, super nice and friendly. Elly was also prepping the front for what I can only imagine would be a super busy day. Both were in it for the long haul, seeing as though the second we ordered there was already 12 people in line behind us. Good idea to share different cheesesteaks. The Korean one was delicious. Sauce, gooey, and spicy. The candied jalapeños have a kick because I think they leave the ribs and seeds in there. But not inedible hot. Super crunchy roll (sesame roll) that was toasted so it wouldn't get soggy. Perfect, but we both agreed that sharing this was the right call. You can never go wrong with a cheesesteak that has extra cheese and grilled onions. I also destroyed that half, ensuring that I would be full for most of the day. The old bay fries are deliciously salty. These fries are on the bigger/thicker side, so you get some that are crunchy (smaller edge pieces) and others that are pillowy soft on the inside. The tartar sauce is such a good pairing with this. Vinegary, briny, and creamy. It serves as an enhancement, not a foil. We parked in the garage and were in and out in less than an hour. I thought it would be slow seeing as though it was a holiday weekend, but I was definitely incorrect on that count. Thank you to the team at Fred's for another great meal. Then by some art of wizardry, someone takes provolone cheese, onions, and peppers along with such quality sliced ribeye and cooks them on a flattop using a supernatural spatula. Seriously, it must be something otherworldly going on in the kitchen because A LOT of places make cheese steaks and they ain't close to Fred's quality. I'm just not sure a review with words, pictures, and videos can do justice. You need the 4th dimension (smell and taste). Service wise, the wait is about 10 minutes for almost everything on the menu. The staff are friendly and efficient, they stay extra busy and do a fine job at moving orders. There are a few barstools at the counter to eat at but there are more opportunities in the common area of Krog St. Market. Unfortunately, I have never had anything else on Fred's menu. Add on the fact that it's got a Michelin Guide write up and you just know you're gonna be spending. I went with the Korean Cheesesteak (Ribeye) and pommes frites with garlic aioli. The sandwich and fries came out pretty quickly so I was able to go find myself a table. I really liked the bread of the sandwich. It brought a nice crunch and flavor to the whole thing. It soaked up the juices from the gochujang sauce and shaved ribeye which made the inside soggy (in a good way) but the outside stayed crisp. The candied jalapenos along with the gochujang sauce added some welcome heat to the mix. The green onions and garlic aioli gave some freshness to it all. All-in-all a pretty good sandwich. However, since it's got so much going on I wonder if they could get away with using a cheaper cut of meat than ribeye (while lowering the price of course). The fries were decent. I wish they were crispier, but they were seasoned well and had a lot of garlic flavor. The aioli was really good too. The Korean Cheesesteak, fries, and a Coke came out to ~$32. Sitting right around $20 without a side or drink, the price is steep but the sandwich is large and filled with a lot of meat. Man oh man is the hype real! We visited on two separate occasions and had two different experiences. We stopped in on a Thursday afternoon during lunch time and the food hall was nearly empty. Including Fred's. I went with their burgers after reading great things and it did not disappoint. Double patty's with melted cheese and the right fluffy bread to go with it. Their bbq seasoned fries had a very bbq chips taste to it and was large in size. Absolutely enough to share between two people. We stopped in a second time on a Saturday afternoon and holy line. It wrapped around the corner and then some. Which was a completely different experience than our first go around. I will say, the staff was hard at work because that line moved as quick as a chick fil a drive through so it wasn't as terrible as it looked. While the burger will always be my go-to, Fred's Meat & Bread is also known for their Philly Cheesesteaks. I've seen them, friends have tried them, and I've only heard great things about them! The cashiers taking orders were very friendly and helpful in regard to answering questions and making recommendations. I always give "bonus points" to the service when the workers make recommendations or seek opportunities to personalize my order. Krog's Street Market overall is such a good indoor foodie venue. Other than Fred's, Krog's Street has good places for dumplings, pizza, and some local ice cream... yum! They seem to always be busy no matter when you go, but the parking is never too rough to get in and out of. There is a big lot connected directly to the market- which is nice compared to some other places in downtown Atlanta.
