We began with the grilled artichokes and the beets with blood oranges--both fresh, vibrant, and beautifully prepared. For our mains, we shared the Carolina Trout, the herb-rubbed chicken, and the tagliatelle bolognese, and each dish was better than the last. Every bite was packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Dessert truly took things over the top. The trio--Key Lime Pie, Tollhouse Pie, and the Bonzo--was the stuff dreams are made of. We paired our meal with a bottle of Gómez y Rial "Compostelae" Albariño, which I highly recommend--it was crisp, elegant, and the perfect complement to our meal. I have been coming on and off during the years. And it's been a good staple in a great walking area. We went for lunch and My husband orders the hash which he enjoyed, I ordered the Chilaquiles. Which I'm a huge fan of. I was disappointed then I got the dish. the chicken felt canned or maybe it was boiled? It had a strange flavor. Even if it wasn't it didn't feel fresh (or even a day old) . Atlanta's weather has been insane lately, but the best brunch pairing for a nice spring day was the Strawberry Spritz and Buttermilk Pancakes. Their pancakes were made perfectly, it was the perfect combo of fluffy and a slight crunch on the surface. Their candied bacon was also top tier! We also had their calamari and perfectly battered without being too chewy. Their banana bread was also delicious. Im still thinking of it! Their patio area was also nice and shaded also providing a nice breeze. Valet parking was $3 flat rate across the street at the wells Fargo. My only disappointment (and it was minor) was the service. Our waitress was very nice, but may have been fairly new because she seemed confused and flustered when we asked her the types of sauces they provided as part of their complimentary breads. She also didn't ask for any allergies for the table and ended up serving us some tree nuts that my friend cant have. Their menu also doesn't list this, so they had to remake his food. 4.5 stars to be exact. There are not many casual-fine dining American restaurants near Midtown Atlanta, and I am glad to find this one. It is located on the center of Virginia Highland. Only about 1mi from Eastside Beltline. Have it a try recently. The restaurant had many seats, a huge patio and a separate room for bar seatings. So it was not difficult to reserve a table. The inside was bright and the vibe was good for a family-style meal. For food, I got the Grilled Artichokes, Carolina Trout, and side of bread. I only had artichokes with pizza and artichoke dips before. The grilled ones were quite different: they were large, and the leaves were so chewy that I could not eat it. Later my server taught me how to eat it: I should only eat the bottom of it and the meat on the leaves. These parts were mashy, a litttle juicy, and a bit sweet -- somewhat like Chinese white carrots. The Carolina Trout was good. In particular, the parsnip puree and grapes were creative. The thinly sliced almonds was nutty and crispy. All these went well with the two filet. The whole dish was savory, with a slight hint of sweetness. However, I wish there was browned butter so that the puree would not be completely soaked in it. Finally, their bread basket was tiny, one basket was only about 2.5oz. The restaurant also has an extensive lunch menu featuring many dishes on the dinner menu as well as many sandwiches. I am interested in e.g. brisket sandwich. Came for brunch on a weekend. We were seated fairly quickly. I got the special, steak and eggs. We got for crispy calamari, egg slum, and I got a pumpkin spiced latte. The pumpkin spiced latte was okay, I did not really taste the pumpkin but the coffee was good. The steak was cooked pretty well! And I enjoyed the sauce with it. The egg slum was not my favorite to be honest. There were wayyy too many potatoes compared to sausage and bacon. It was like eating endless potatoes. The calamari was crispy and I really liked both the sauces that came with it. We were also given a basket of muffins and bread to enjoy! Both the bread and muffin were good. Went for my gal's birthday dinner. More than I usually spend but worth it. Classy, but casual ambiance in the dining room. Bar was huge with plenty of seating. Server did a great job taking care of us. Was attentive to anything we wanted not already on the table. Gal had the butternut squash flatbread as an appetizer and the pasta dish for her main meal. I had the kale salad with feta and raisins, Parmesan French fries, and Mac and cheese. The food was good. Would have given an extra star, but the dishes (salad/Mac and cheese) were a little too heavy on the sauces for my taste. The toll house pie is worth going just for dessert. The trio of jams and butter were delicious as well. For my entree, I ordered the French toast which was delicious. The bread had a slight crust, yet the bread was soft and fluffy enough to soak up the egg and whiskey syrup. I also loved the caramelized banana slice on the side. I had high hopes for this place. Made reservations for weekend brunch. The restaurant was extremely busy which I took as a good sign. We ordered the Eggs Slum Mulligan and the Crab Cake Benedict. The crab cakes were very fishy and a big turn off for sure. The whites of the eggs were also not set, so it made for an even messier experience than expected. The slum mulligan was fine. I've dined at Murthy's since 1994 at their old location near the fire station and hardware store; to their current location. I've never had a disappointment with the food or service. From the cozy wine bar and patio area , to one of the booths in the main area, always a great time here. From the brunch on the weekends, to lunch and dinner during the week; I've always been pleased. My all time favorites are the spinach meatloaf, Jarlsberg chicken salad....when available, and the Bonzo cake, and the big cookies for dessert. The wine shop is an added plus ! I love Murphy's. My drink I sent it back because it looked like someone had drunk out of it and it was separate (a strawberry daiquiri). Sent it back, ordered a salad, cool. Started eating the salad and moved a leaf of lettuce and boom (a bright green caterpillar), immediately called the waitress. The manager tried to offer me something else because now I'm highly annoyed. I opt into the shrimp and grits & the sauce was nasty and the food was cold. First time I've ever went out and only had water and a muffin on the house. Plus we had a birthday party and had to pay to cut the cake there. My friend had made reservations in advanced for brunch on a Sunday morning. Given how little tables were still available, I would also recommend others to plan ahead as well. As such, we did get seated right away but I didn't see anyone having to wait outside. Parking can be a little difficult as the streets fill up fast. Complimentary fresh muffins and bread are provided and delicious! You may need to ask for more butter and jelly since they give a very scant amount. I found their Eggs Slum Mulligan to be very filling since there was so many potatoes. Some extra bell peppers or vegetables could have added additional texture and flavor to the dish. The presentation of the Chilaquiles was gorgeous and also tasted just as good. I liked my Espresso martini but also enjoyed a sip from my friend's strawberry mimosa and blueberry mimosa. Overall, I had a great time in the well lit and comfortable atmosphere. It can be as casual or upscale as you want it to be. Staff were great but prices were slightly higher than preferred. With our flight home to NJ canceled, my wife and I had a night to spend in Atlanta. What to do? Find a nice restaurant for dinner! My wife gets credit for finding Murphy's. The restaurant is located in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood. If we ever relocate to Atlanta, this fantastic town is where we'll be moving to! The restaurant has been here since 1980. It's a restaurant, but also a bakery. On a quiet Monday night, it was very relaxing. We started out with glasses of wine and the Burrata appetizer. The burrata was so creamy and the pieces of rhubarb its served with was really tasty. For entrees, my wife had the Georgia Shrimp Roll and I had the Guinness Braised Brisket. We both thought they were very good, I really liked the Brisket. Desserts were very tempting and we ordered the Bonzo. This was a brownie, cheesecake, and chocolate mousse slice. Delicious! The area is very busy, but there's valet parking across the street. Nice and easy! This restaurant was a great find! read more

I really enjoyed my birthday brunch at Murphy's. It was overall an enjoyable and delicious experience. This restaurant is located in the Virginia-Highlands neighborhood and had valet parking. Upon entry it looks smaller than it is. It's a little more "snug" with tables closely situated, but that didn't affect my experience. The overall vibes were very family friend, great for a friend's dinner and for a date as well. In terms of food, the absolute highlight for me was the Crab Cake Benedict. I tried a few different items and this was the crown and jewel. It was flavorful, had plenty of sauce (hollandaise) and the spinach on the bottom was a nice touch of vegetables. The breakfast potatoes or home fries were also seasoned and well cooked. I'd rate this dish a solid 9.8/10. The braised beef was really good as well. The shrimp and grits were a bit underwhelming, so they lose a few cool points for that. The turkey club was really well prepared and with fresh ingredients. You can't go wrong there. The one thing I tried that I wasn't in love with per se - was the smoked salmon appetizer. The salmon was a bit more chewy than I cared for. I recognize this can sometimes be a matter of preference. Overall, I think there's something on the menu for everyone here so don't allow any minor critique to deter you. I think the food was worth it and I was stuffed by the end of it. For drinks, I enjoyed a cranberry mimosa and also had a really good iced latte. Their espresso martini was also tasty. My server was super sweet and thorough, and the manager even came to check in and say hello. 5 stars on service. Murphy's delivered me the best meal I had over a week's trip to Atlanta with excellent food and playful and knowledgeable service through Han. We ordered the beef brisket and bbq salmon, both of which were excellent. The beef was cooked exquisitely -- with a cohesive outer layer and tender, juicy fibrous interior, smothered in delicious mashed potatoes and topped with roasted green beans and carrot. I'm salivating writing about it. The bbq salmon was delicious and generous in portion. The chef had a charred tomato risotto special that we noticed they also offer as a side and it was probably one of the best risottos I've had in the US. The key lime pie was splendid. I picked this spot for brunch when in the area. The restaurant is cozy, bright, and inviting. The minute I walked in, I knew I was going to be impressed. They start you with poppyseed muffins for the table which were top notch. I tried the smoked salmon omelette with cheesy grits for $19, off the daily specials. It was a perfectly cooked omelette and the dill, crème fraiche, and large chunks of salmon were amazing. The cheesy grits were well flavored. This was my perfect brunch meal. I bet their dinner is also superb, we were in the city for a couple of days and one of the first places that popped up to go check was this one, and they were so right! We started our lunch with the burrata appetizer, and it was so so good, they presented way different than other places, they add the rhubarb and radishes, and it was our first time trying with it and it really enhanced the burrata flavor! The bread that goes with it was so good too. I ordered a latte to start and it was so well made and delicious! Then I moved into something a little bit stronger so I tried their espresso martini and it was GREAT too. When it was time for our main, I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich and my boyfriend ordered de lobster Cobb salad, both dishes were out of this world, insanely good! Our waitress, Jasmine was so on point with all her recommendations, and her service was top notch. The restaurant looks very traditional but at the same time very well updated. They have a large selection of wines available for purchase and someone that can help you with it. Their bar area seems very nice. We finished our meal sharing a seasonal dessert they have, I can't remember the name but it was like a peach bread with ice cream, and it was excellent! I have family visiting from out of town and I wanted to show them around the city, so where else would I take them but to one of the city's long-standing restaurants. Since we planned on going for Sunday brunch, I made sure to make a reservation. We ended up having an extra person in our party, but this was easily rectified after giving the restaurant a call. There was a ton of people waiting for their table, but just a short wait later and ours was ready. Our server was Brooke and while our service was quite slow, she was super friendly and did apologize for forgetting some of the items we ordered and for the wait on our drink orders. The pastry platter is always such a hit - today we had biscuits and Oreo muffins. I ordered the Santa Fe with a side of fruit salad and a cappuccino. I was thinking my meal would be tacos, but it's more of a fancy burrito with eggs, peppers, onions, cheese and ranchero sauce. I needed something light with the meal and opted for the fruit salad instead of grits/potatoes. Everyone in our party enjoyed their meal as well. First time visitors and we all really enjoyed our meals. We were engaged in conversation and I didn't think to take pictures but we ordered a variety of dishes: Linda's omelette with grits or potatoes was delicious. The omelet was light and fluffy and I licked mine up a knotch by adding goat cheese - that took it over the edge! Shrimp and grits was good. Shrimp was cooked well and the sauce was very flavorful. Pancakes were a big hit from the size and texture to the flavor and that whiskey syrup- will order those again and again. We also enjoyed some calamari which was crisp and tender on the inside. We loved the accompaniments too! The biscuit and muffin basket with butter and jam was a nice starter and very yummy. I think each condiment tray should include the blackberry or blueberry jam too, but all of them were delicious. Coffee was great as well. As for customer service, we were seated timely and order taken shortly afterward. Staff was very welcoming and engaging and made sure we had everything we needed. The manager also stopped by our table to check on us which was appreciated and very kind. It was a great time and we'd definitely visit again. While it sounded so simple, it was delicious and well made They gave us complimentary cornbread and muffins for starters, and I really need to know who made the cornbread because it was perfectly made. A great balance of being warm and soft and scrumptious . I think I almost ate my fingers with it. For our entrées, I ordered the braised brisket hash with a side of cheese grits. The brisket was GREAT. The poached eggs could have been cooked a little longer but overall it hit the spot. My friend ordered the Murphy's burger and a side Caesar salad. Our stomachs were still open for business so we ordered the malted waffle to share. Waffle was definitely a 10/10. For my lasting impression, I'd definitely order the braised brisket hash again, and ask for the eggs to be cooked a different way. My nosey eyes spied that the folks sitting next to us had ordered the eggs slum mulligan - totally trying that next time. Nice food but service could use just a lil more tweaking towards the customers. We sat at the bar for quicker service *fingers crossed*. The bartenders were so social with one another at times customers, including me & my friend and both group of guy customers on either side of us, waiting for extremely long for condiments, coffee refills & just to pay before leaving. There were 3 different managers just walking around so we all had to began asking for their assistance. Shout out to Ella for knowing that menu and suggesting yummy options & combinations.
