I attended Miller Union for dinner on a business trip. It was a very upscale restaurant with excellent service. The food left something to be desired. I thought there could be a better cheese selection on the charcuterie board and the beet panzanella was a little too beet forward. I ordered the veggie plate which was a combination of all four veggies sides. The creamed spinach and ricotta dumplings were awesome but I was very sad they only gave me two ricotta dumplings on the plate! The seasonal veggies and farro salad were just alright. While in town, we had dinner here. We made a reservation for a prime dinner time and it looked like everyone else did too. The spot is cozy with separate rooms which gives it a nice feel. Service was fantastic- very, very attentive. We tried the farm egg over grilled bread ($12) which is a unique but amazing dish. It's a creamy egg with celery flavoring that you dip bread into. Amazing. We also tried the Chinese Pancake special for $14 which was an upscale version of Scallion Pancakes which was a wonderful take on this classic dish. The two apps alone were worth the dinner. We tried the steak for $38 and the fish of the day for $44. Both dishes were fantastically flavored, plated, and seasoned. My fish had almost Indian style flavor which I wasn't expecting but was delicious. Despite being full, we indulged in the ganache cake for dinner ($13) which again tasted as good as it was presented. This place was absolutely lovely. I went for a private and big dinner with colleagues and everything so so incredibly well thought out. The service was impeccable, I never had to ask for more water or wine it just kept flowing! The food was delicious! We had spread and charcuterie to start which was delicious. The they brought out a salad to share family style and an egg spread appetizer that apparently they have been serving for 15 years. I understand why because it was delicious and not like anything I have ever had. For an entree I got their quail dish served over what I think was a mushroom mixture with farro. The dish as a whole was lovely. My only complaint is that quail is hard to separate from the bone because of how small it is. So if you're going to this restaurant for something formal or a business meeting opt out of this dish. The desserts they gave us were a lemon cake and orange chocolate cheesecake. The lemon cake was divine. The cheesecake was a miss for me. This place was really incredibly and beautiful throughout. Strengths: *A few dishes were standouts: housemade charcuterie, and the egg baked in celery cream *The desserts were consistently creative and on point Weaknesses: *Pet peeve: the online wine list is not up-to-date. Many of the wines I wanted for our large group were out-of-stock or in limited supply *The Somm, Princeton, was arrogant and unhelpful. He was rude on the phone when I discussed wines for our group, and even ruder and condescending in-person. I requested specific wines in advance for the group, and he served a different Champagne than what we agreed on at the dinner. When confronted, he argued with me. I eventually explained that in his line of business, you need to be customer-oriented. I came here with 2 friends that were visiting from out of town and we had a great time! The food was delicious and I understand why Miller Union got the Michelin guide service award - our server was possibly the sweetest man ever and he was the perfect amount of attentive. We shared the farm egg in celery cream and mezze platter for our appetizers. I got the daily fish entree and loved it, my friends got the steak and the duck and liked their dishes too! We each had about 4 glasses of wine and wished we had just gotten 2 bottles instead.. next time! Excellent experience. First the service was great. The entire staff acted as a team to make sure the table was always taken care of. I have only seen that teamwork at a few other places. Excellent atmosphere as well, quiet enough to converse and remain relaxed. The food was excellent. I had the farm egg baked in celery cream appetizer. It was so good, egg perfectly cooked and it was great when you paired it with the toast. I had the shrimp and fish green curry. Made a reservation for date night at Miller Union. There is valet parking out front, but we opted to park in a deck close by for a few bucks. We were sat right at our reservation time and our server was nice, attentive, and provided awesome recs! We ordered the pork belly as our side and the fried okra per our server's rec. The okra is some of the BEST okra I've ever had. It was fried beautifully and wonderfully crisp. Dipping sauce was so fresh and complimented it perfectly. Pork belly was delish as well. We ordered the pork and duck for our mains and really enjoyed both dishes. All of the components went with the mains and you could tell there was a lot of thought behind the dishes. The food here is excellent, the service is top notch, and the atmosphere is spot on if you want something upscale but intimate. A great place for family dinners that last hours. Why 3 stars? Simply extraordinarily expensive. Came out to over 100pp, we did get cocktails and shared 2 apps but wow. Also the cocktails were mostly undrinkable. The only one worth getting was an old fashioned, which was excellent. To be fair, this is not a cocktail destination, their deal is wine, which we definitely should have done. But girls dinner means cocktails to me. I most recommend the ricotta mushroom toast and the veg platter. The egg is poached essentially in the celery cream and it's so wonderfully creamy. I personally think it tasted better with the regular bread because the grilled bread was a little harder - Fish croquette, spiced remoulade, cabbage and radish slaw ($16) - can't really remember this to be honest - Cornmeal fried okra, garam masala, green chile chutney ($15) - highly recommend! I usually don't like okra bc of the slimeyness but there was none of that. I think they cut them in half before frying? The seasoning (while on the saltier side) was good and the chutney dip was refreshing and well balanced. - Seared scallops, sweet corn and field pea succotash, country ham, tarragon ($22) - I just love scallops so I knew this was going to be good. It's wasn't anything out of the box but yummy nonetheless! - Osono country sourdough and house butter ($3 per person) - just okay Entrees: - Daily dish (red snapper), summer squash, fennel, Vidalia, herb spaetzle, tomato caper sauce (MKT) - yummy! The fish was beautifully cooked and everything tasted great together - Grass fed steak, pole beans, new potatoes, mushroom, crispy shallot, plum jus ($39) - my favorite of the entrees. Well, years later, I'm back at Miller Union with a different boss, for a pre-conference dinner catch up. Our waitress was amazing, super patient, very kind, and gave us really good recommendations. We split two appetizers: Cornmeal and scallion hush puppies, smoked trout spread, and trout roe Local lettuces with almond, spring vegetables, strawberry, feta and green goddess sauce And for my main, I had the Daily fish with Parmesan Brodo, collards, carrots, grits cake, brown butter, and citrus The appetizers were great. It's taken me 13 years to finally come to Miller Union but the wait was worth it! I came on a Wednesday night. They have complimentary valet parking in front of their building and a complimentary coat check. The drink menu is extensive and the food menu is seasonal. All the food options looked amazing. I chose to go lower carbs for the starters and entrees to save some carb allotment for the dessert! The food was incredibly fresh and delicious. I loved how much the veggies shined through. The proteins felt like an accompaniment to the veggies. The food came out in a timely manner and our waters were constantly filled. The shortbread tart was phenomenal! I loved that it showcased the fresh pear along with the cooked pear. The staff here is super laid back but professional. I don't like leaving bad reviews because sometimes people are just having bad nights but I feel like I cannot keep quiet over health issues. There was a cockroach hanging by our table. We immediately notified waitstaff and it took them 30 minutes or so before they actually successfully killed it. We were never apologized to in any way and our waiter just joked about it even as we were visibly uncomfortable because the cockroach was just chillin by us while we ate!!! To be clear, they were trying to kill it during these 30 minutes, but every time a staff member showed up it would go hide under a table leg so the staff would quit and try to come back later. But 30 minutes still seems like too long in a restaurant!! Aside from the cockroach, we had a 7:30 reservation, arrived at 7:20, and were not seated until 8pm. The hostess apologized and said it was because the table before us wouldn't leave, and we were thankfully able to sit at the bar while we waited, but still. You cannot be a Michelin star restaurant and have cockroaches AND also cannot adequately space out reservations. read more

Miller Union has been on my list to try for YEARS and I finally decided to take the plunge when I heard the previous Tiny Lou pastry chef Claudia was now at Miller Union. Of course, drinks first. If you've been following my reviews or Instagram long enough, you know I'm all about the gin. And of course, the first drink on the menu was Miller Thyme, a simple cocktail of gin, thyme and lemon. It was a light way to start the meal. Starters: I was a big fan of the starters and it set us up for the main entrees. Root Baking Bread & House Butter: I usually don't spend money on bread but after seeing some bread coming out of the kitchen, we decided to give it a try. Seared scallops: with brown butter, sourdough gremolata, celeriac. A little salty for my tastes but otherwise cooked perfectly. Entrees: Plating was nice, just like the starters and drinks. The entrees weren't bad but so hyped up from the beginning of the meal that I found the entrees to be a little boring. The garnish and sides that came with the grass-fed coulotte steak and duck breast seemed complex and interesting but only ok. The green garlic aioli on the steak saved it for sure and I still made sure to eat every bite. The duck breast was a bit tart to me, thanks to the sour cherry gastrique and some of the veggies, too. The duck was cooked perfectly, though. Dessert: So this is what we came for. We were on the hunt for Chef Claudia's desserts. We were pretty full from our huge meal so far but we still got 2 desserts to try. We ended up ordering the Guava Mint Sorbet with Meyer Lemon Shortbread & Rhubarb Reduction, as well as the Venezuelan Chocolate Mousse with Hazelnut Ganache, Cocoa Streusel & Passion Fruit. I found her desserts to be super complex and not as straightforward as her desserts at Tiny Lou's. The sorbet was a little tart for me but balanced out with the shortbread and rhubarb reduction. The chocolate mousse was a little heavy but it's definitely a chocolate lover's dream. Overall, I will definitely be back for drinks, starters and desserts! And while I may be a little more hesitant to order entrees next time, I wouldn't mind trying something new since there were several items on the menu I'd wanted to order but obviously didn't have the stomach space for, LOL. read more

In the age of covid, you gotta appreciate a nice outside eating area. I know we did. Anywho, we're probably not giving this restaurant its proper due. It's just that the bar has been raised so high in terms of ATL cuisine. We found this instantiation to be very good, but not necessarily that groundbreaking/ creative- not that every restaurant necessarily need be. In any case, the egg in the celery cream was the most special dish we had. I actually wasn't that into it, but my dining companion loved it. And look how pretty it is in the picture! If you eat with your eyes then this food will delight. Everything else we had was fairly pedestrian- well made, just not that memorable. Amazing food!! Celery cream sauce was unusual but so worth it, tasted amazing and was definitely the highlight for me. Smoked oysters were also lovely, and me and my party ordered the steak and chicken dishes as well. On a quest to try out all of the places in atl that might get the Michelin star and Miller Union is definitely a contender! We came here on a Monday night and tried a few of their dishes and I was pretty impressed with their food. Parking is valet only, but it's free so we just went for that instead of trying to street park or pay for a deck. The restaurant entrance was a little confusing to find, but the inside is decently big. Our waitress was super nice and made sure our waters were always full, but the kitchen was a bit slow so it took forever to get our food out in between apps, entrees, and desserts. We shared a bunch of plates and I thought that my favorites were the egg in celery butter (sounds weird but you have to try it!), pork belly, quail, and donuts. Portion sizes were pretty decent for the price which was a plus too! Overall I enjoyed my experience at Miller Union and would not be too surprised if they got a star of some sort! read more

Anyways- it was a lovely dinner all around- bottle of Portuguese wine at reasonable price point, hostess was friendly and assured us being late due to Lyft issues was no problem ( and we didn't get attitude tho this made us almost last table to finish). Our server was fantastic, knowledgeable and gave good recommendations. I think I loved our appetizer most: a new menu item featuring beets & trout which sounds weird but was amazing. I saw it on several of those list actually and for being that popular, I don't think they lived up to hype. The service was mediocre, my partner took a while to decide what he wanted to drink and eat and it was very obvious that the waitress was annoyed by this. The food was good but not spectacular. That's literally all I have to say on it lol. The drinks are better though! Inside the restaurant is very pretty. Their patio space is an extension of the restaurant that's fully covered and looks pretty at night. Anywhere that you sit in the restaurant will look nice. So let's see... It's near Howell Mill Road and Brady Avenue. Sits on a corner at an intersection. I like they offer Valet service. Just make sure your phone is charged up with battery life. You're going to need it to get your car on departure and to pay the valet. Since it's been a few months I can't recall what I ate...wait! Pictures are great when you forget. Overall a 3.5 out of 5. This was a very average dining experience from the seating to the service and the food. It took about twenty minutes for our server to come after greeting us to taking our order which was a rocky start. The layout of the restaurant is a bit strange in that there were seats in a very busy hallway without getting a good view of the restaurant. The appetizers were the best part of the meal. We got the celery cream egg with the sourdough which was delicious. We also got the grouper croquette that was accompanied with very well balanced salad and a sauce that was delicious. Wish the croquette was crispier on the outside and overall warmer temperature wise. We split the spinach tagliatelle and the kitchen/staff was very considerate in already splitting the entree. While the dish tasted good, i couldn't help but feel it was a bit bland and dry. I wished there was more of a sauce and the pasta felt a border line undercooked rather than Al dente. The shrimp and the clams were cooked perfectly. We split the chocolate ganache cake for dessert. This was a very very heavy cake and way too sweet for my taste.
