The Buratta was also so flavorful- shout out to the beats. We're vegetarian and got the goat cheese ravioli and 20 yolk pasta- both were so flavorful but the tagliatelle was a little too lemony for my taste but it's a fan favorite. Ended with the cherry tart for dessert with the London fog cream and pistachio gelato and omg fantastic dish- so unique. This spot is more of a pasta place than an Italian restaurant. They make everything fresh and in-house. Fancy but doesn't have all the poshness. They had a tasting menu that was $165 or thereabouts. Though most of the items sounded pleasant when the menu was rattled to us, not everything sounded great enough to commit. So we opted to order from the regular menu. Ordering two appetizers and two entrees were enough to fill the both of us tbh. * Australian wagyu steak tartare: The "chips" that came with this was super thin and crispy and made tasting the steak much more delightful. The smoked salmon roe added nicely to the dish. * Smoked prosciutto: This was such a cluster of deliciousness. This pick was to die for. O.M.G. All the flavors and textures. The pineapple was inventive and added a sweet burst of flavor. Quite literally as well. The candied hazelnut a nice crunch. * Southern fried chicken parm: I've been eyeing this dish for awhile ever since seeing the menu. The chicken was tender, juicy, and flavorful. Chicken choices are either a hit or miss, and this pick hit all the notes with bonus points for the portion. The pasta had a nice portion size too. The creamy collards and radiatore actually felt pretty subtle mixed in and wasn't really that noticeable. Overall a great pick for its flavors, portion, and value. * 20 yolk tagliatelle: This pick was different and tasty, but it didn't give wow'ing vibes. If you're looking for something on the lighter side and has more of a vegetarian-feel, then this would be the dish for you. The mushrooms were tasty, and I enjoyed each bite. Made this reservation almost three weeks in advance because one week was not enough. The steak tartare was great. It was not my very favorite beef tartare, that honor still goes to Staplehouse but it was quality meat. The chips that came with it were standard and the salmon roe didn't add that much to the dish. Prosciutto and pineapple excellent. You could tell the meat and pineapple was quality. I didn't expect the appetizers to be so well crafted so I was pleasantly surprised. 20 Yolk Tagliatelle was good. It's a elevated veggie pasta with mushrooms and kale kimchi. It had a sour note to it probably from the kimchi. I love kimchi though. The chicken parm was great. It was probably the best chicken parmesean I've had in a while. The meat was juicy and the crunch was perfect. Service was amazing with friendly and attentive waitress. Would I come here again? Probably. It's in a great location relatively close to Krog Street Market. It's one of the best pastas I've had in Atlanta right next to White Bull and No 246 in Decatur. read more

It's hard to get a reservation here on a weekend night, but we got one a few weeks in advance! The restaurant is easy to get to (Beltline, Marta, etc). The reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because some of the dishes were less refined than I expected. For example, the flavors in the tuna crudo seemed too intense and overblown, which really took away from the taste of the tuna. Crudo is typically more delicate than that. Same with the sorpresine - the crab was overtaken by the flavors. I still think the food was super good, but for the price I would've expected more refined flavors. BoccaLupo was a great experience! The food and drinks were amazing, and the service was excellent. First time here, and like others have said, you will need to have a reservation. However, the service and food were great, and I highly recommend anyone to try! We ended up ordering 3 pastas, the bolognese, baked pasta with lamb, and the black spaghetti. For the appetizer, we ordered the cannoli with prosciutto and cheese with smoked blueberry, and for dessert we got the skillet oatmeal cookie! To start with, they give you a drink menu (which doesn't make sense on purpose), and the waiter will come and explain each drink to you in detail. The first drink we got was a mild blended piña colada almost, it had a touch of milk, fruitiness, and was very creamy! We also ended up getting a cocktail which was alright by itself, but definitely ended up pairing well with the pasta and cutting through the flavor! The appetizer came first, and I really enjoyed the lightness of this appetizer! The cannoli was like a light, hollow baked bread, and the inside had a layer of cheese. It was wrapped in prosciutto that was almost like butter, and the smoked blueberries and sauce helped add some tartness to the dish. It was surprisingly light and very good! The first pasta we tried was the bolognese which was delicious! The noodles were wide and freshly made, tender but still with bite. It was very flavorful and very good! The same can be said about the baked pasta with lamb, which had a good amount of vegetables on it. Surprisingly, the vegetables may have been my favorite part, as they were sweet and crunchy to contrast with the pasta. The pasta itself also had the same great texture as the bolognese and the lamb was not gamey at all, making for a nice and cozy dish. Last was the black spaghetti, which came with ground sausage and shrimp. The seafood was fresh and light, and the green onions helped balance the garlic and stronger flavors. There was also a little bit of spiciness to it. While good, I think we enjoyed the first two pastas more. Lastly came the dessert, which was delicious! The oatmeal cookie had other mixed grains and nuts which gave a very nice texture to the cookie, and it came with ice cream! While a little bit sweet, there was some huckleberry and other berries to balance it out with a touch of tartness. Service is out of this world, our waitress had perfect timing and every dish came out also at the exact time, with enough spacing in between but not too long. Our waitress was also very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly, I had a wonderful time eating here! Ambiance is nice, dimmer lighting for a more intimate setting in the back of the restaurant, with more space in the front and more people for a more casual feel. We were visiting Atlanta and were lucky to snag a 5:30pm reservation on a Friday night. The restarant opens at 5:30pm and there were several groups waiting outside when we arrived. We got the foccacia, burrata with roasted sweet potatoes and apple, fried chicken parmesan, and black spaghetti. My favorite was the chicken parm! The breading was very good, chicken moist, and the radiatore noodles were fun! My husband really liked the black spaghetti, but I found it too spicy. And the burrata was really good too - a beautiful, fun and interesting combination of flavors and textures. My daughter enjoyed her kids pasta, which was more elevated than your average kids spaghetti, which was cute. We finished with the basque cheesecake, which might have been my favorite dish of the night! The service was phenomenal, everyone was very helpful and friendly. I took their advice and booked a reservation. Once I arrived, they told me that they were no longer taking walk-ins. They were happy to know that I had a reservation and gave me a seat. I would not have been able to experience this venue if I did not book a reservation. This place my have a private parking lot around the back and there were plenty of free street parking. No issues parking. This venue makes sure not to over-burden their kitchen and staff. There will be open tables but they will only seat you at your reservation time. I like this. This is how a venue performs quality control. You have a much better experience when you have not been waiting on food for an hour or the kitchen has to rush. They do have outside tables for your wait. You can order a couple of drinks as you wait as well. First visit, I ordered the black spaghetti with rock shrimp, spicy sausage, and scallions. The black spaghetti does not change the taste of the spaghetti at all but it makes the dish looks cool. This dish has an amazing taste. The flavors explode in your mouth. Second visit, I ordered the 20 Yolk vegetarian pasta. The veggies really make this pasta stand out. Pasta tasted extremely fresh. I wanted to try their desserts. First visit, I ordered the Oatmeal and Cherry skillet cookie with cherry gelato and candied pistachios. This is easily the best sweet treat I have had all year. Yeah this place is fire. Couldn't get a reservation but rolled the dice for the bar and got seated pretty quickly. The menu is seasonal so by the time you read this, it may not be relevant. Started with a crudo with uni aioli, the pan con tomate, the summer lettuce salad and the grilled octopus for appetizers. We also had the jalapeno risotto with crab crusted halibut and the lamb tortelli. All of the food was incredible. The pan con tomate is pretty expensive for what it is so i wouldn't get it again. But other than that, would love to come back and get everything else on the menu. Food comes out really quickly, servers and hostess were great. Would definitely recommend everyone try this spot out. I come to Atlanta for work once and year so I keep a running list of restaurants that I want to try. BoccaLupo has been on my list for several years and I finally pulled the trigger and went. We had a reservation for 4 people on Wednesday evening at 6:45. Do note that they will not seat you until your entire party arrives, no exceptions. Our table was in the back on what seemed to be a heated enclosed patio area. Our waiter brought us the menus as walked us through the cocktail list. If there was one thing I didn't enjoy about our dining experience it was the cocktail menu. There are punny names with inside jokes and no description about what the cocktails basically at all. You have to ask your server for descriptions of each drink which does tend to get tedious if you order several rounds. That being said, our waiter was delightful and went through the descriptions as many times as needed as well as making good suggestions on both cocktails and food items. Favorite cocktails of the night were the "What Are You, the Police?" and "Doom Scrolling" For dinner we ordered entirely too much food to share. We had the ceviche, tuna crudo, tricolore salad, mushroom tagliatelle, pappardelle bolognese, goat cheese ravioli, black spaghetti, beef cheek ravioli and mafaldine cacio e Pepe. Did we over do it? Sure, but there were just so many items that we wanted to try! Everyone at the table had a different favorite dish but we really loved all of them. The food here is OUTSTANDING. My personal favorites were the salad, beef cheek ravioli and mushroom tagliatelle. For dessert we ordered the skillet cookie and the Basque cheese cake. They were both a hit but the skillet cookie was sensational. It's going to be really hard for me to choose a new restaurant next time that I come to town instead of coming back here every time. Second time coming within the past month and both times were phenomenal. Both times were a party of 4 and everything we ordered has been good. I'll start off that I am very biased about this place as it's a neighborhood staple and rightfully so. Very easy to walk and park to. You will need a reservation and give yourself time to get one. After hearing all the rave about BoccaLupo, I grabbed a reservation far in advance for a Wednesday night dinner. There is free street parking around the restaurant but it can be tricky to find. We were seated right on time. Service afterwards was incredibly lackluster. When we were seated the host said the chef would come by to talk us through the tasting menu. About 5 mins later another server finally came to fill our waters and asked if we knew what we wanted to drink. We never got the run down of the tasting menu that we were interested in. We had never been here before and expected just more from service here. I have truly gotten better service from Chili's. We both ordered the what are you, the police? cocktail. Looking at the cocktail menu, descriptions are pretty minimal so I had to ask our server to give a walkthrough of the menu as he not once even thought it would be helpful? My friend did have a tree nut allergy and the server was attentive of that asked if cross-contamination was okay or not (it wasn't). This was helpful at least. The cocktail was so delicious and I would come back to get this cocktail and try other drinks. We ended up ordering 3 pastas to share: beef cheek tortelli, goat cheese ravioli, and black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage. All the food came out hot and steamy. We did get all pastas to share. The beef cheek tortelli was INCREDIBLY salty. There is absolutely no way anyone tasted this food prior to plating. Absolutely could not recommend. The only good component was the beef cheek inside the tortelli but the saltiness of the remaining plate killed this. The goat cheese ravioli was good and enjoyed the peach on top with cabbage. Nothing super amazing and wowing. The black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage was my favorite and I say favorite lightly. The spaghetti was cooked perfectly, but I found this dish to lack a touch of salt. It felt like this dish was just missing -something- but found it to be okay. All tables had a little candle at their table and as the sun started to set, the host came by and REACHED ACROSS the table to grab the candle and light it. This was incredibly rude and she did not say anything or even a "excuse me". She could have easily walked between my friend and the next table to grab it without reaching in front of both of us. I would have preferred she leave it unlit as this really left a bad taste in my mouth. We were still picking at our plates when the server came by to start clearing the plate I still had in front of me with food in it... I asked him to leave it. Overall, I do not see myself coming back to BoccaLupo anytime soon and do not understand the hype. There are so many better Italian restaurants in the area that are cheaper, tastier, and have better service. We booked months in advance - knowing BoccaLupo is always worth the wait! Our table was ready but one guest was running late, so we were offered cocktails on the porch while we waited. The chef's tasting menu was an instant attraction; we ordered for 1, and added app/entrees on the server's recommendation. It's lovely to be able to mix and match like that - so many restaurants require the whole table to order the same tasting menu, but not BoccaLupo. We loved every single dish that came out. The lamb entree was a stand-out. I only remembered to get photos of dessert as we were slowing down, but each dish was so beautifully presented. The whole front of house team was welcoming and friendly, and the place got super busy by around 7PM so the atmosphere had a great vibe to it. Will be back yet again soon! read more

A local chef recommendation led me here for a drinks / light dinner with a friend. We split an order of A-16 meatballs, and they were divine. I usually don't eat meat, but I made an exception for these, and they were worth it. I ordered the Fine linguini with Genovese Pesto and summer vegetables which was a solidly good entree but nothing that blew my socks off. My friend had the goat cheese ravioli, which she enjoyed. For the cocktails, I went for the Gap Year, which was a standard sour cocktail, and my friend had two of the Field Medicine, which looked like a better choice to me. When I decided to switch to wine, the waiter brought me a taste of the wine I chose (a Spanish skin contact / orange) and I decided against it, and foolishly declined to pick the white 2023 German Mosel he suggested (again, I sampled it) which was a much better match. I made a terrible choice based on yelp reviews: "What are you, the Police?" I don't know if all the yelp reviews loving this drink were some kind of joke, but this cocktail tastes like pickle juice. Not the fault of the waiter, however, he did bring me samples of both wines. And, let me say up front that the service we received was gracious and prompt, and matched the care of the food. I would love to come back as a date night with my husband or anyone who wants to have a superior and relaxed dining experience. I've always wanted to cross this place off my Atlanta bucket list and I'm glad I did! The sashimi grade snapper ceviche was actually SO good, it's a must try. The pastas were alright, I liked the black spaghetti best. It's got a hint of spice, the noodles are chewy, and I liked the tender shrimp. I'm not sure if I'd go back for round two but it they were fun to try! I was not a big fan of the basque cheesecake though, not sure if it's just because I don't like basque cheesecake since I've never tried it before but I wasn't a fan of the texture. We came to BoccaLupo for a date night (unfortunately we did have to make a reservation a month in advance so we kinda forgot about it until the day of lol) and were decently impressed by the ambiance, food, and service! I came here with a friend for dinner, and celebration of her birthday. We have been here before, and are familiar with the food and five of this restaurant and we're really excited to give it another go! We both ordered pasta dishes. One chicken Parmesan with pasta and creamed, collard greens, a black spaghetti, pasta with spicy collaboration, sausage and shrimp, that had a fresh scallion topping. We both would give our dishes, high ratings, possibly 4.8 out of five for both of those. My friend said that her pasta dish was delicious because the tomato sauce Under the chicken Parmesan was slightly acidic and paired surprisingly well with the creamy sauce that was in the pasta and collard greens. I enjoyed my dish because it wasn't too saucy. Most times I look forward to pasta dishes because they have an excess of sauce and sometimes it's nice to slurp it up with the noodles. Today, I appreciated that it wasn't overly soupy, The Calabrian sausage was tender, and served sort of like a ground beef throughout the pasta. Whatever they cooked it in, I'm assuming with tomatoes at least, gave it just enough sauce for the pasta dish and the shrimp were cooked very tender. The one thing I mostly enjoyed about my dish was the fresh scallion because it's nice to have something other than parsley on top of pasta! I really enjoyed that. In terms of the vibe of the restaurant, our reservation was for 530, exactly when they open. I would say this is an interesting time to come into the restaurant because there isn't too much to do, from what I was seeing for the staff/servers. They seem to enjoy working with each other and that's great! There were a couple of moments where I was confused as to the decision of where to have certain conversations. The booth/table that we were sitting in was directly next to where servers were able to close out tabs. And unfortunately, there were moments where the servers and People working in the restaurant were having loud conversations, not to the point where you could hear it across the room, but definitely noticeable and a bit annoying when trying to have a private conversation at the table. There was a moment when I looked up from my food, and I saw a conversation being had at the bar with the bartender, some customers, and our server. At some point in the conversation, our server sniffed a wine bottle, and the spout of the wine bottle touched his actual nose. That definitely turned me off. Knowing that wine is being poured from there and it's touching someone's nostril, whether you're just doing a "quick sniff" or not, definitely unsanitary, and I was not a fan of that. The wine bottle could have been empty for all I know; I'm just sharing what I observed. All in all, I would still give this restaurant a four out of five simply because the food is so good here. You get a great portion size, the restaurant is not overwhelmingly loud, and I walked away, satisfied with my meal. read more

After almost 10 years, I finally return to Boccalupo! I wonder why it's taken me so long to come back considering my first experience was five stars, but I think it's mostly due to my lack of effort to arrange dinner in advance in Edgewood and not for lack of desire. My friend and I planned in advance for this Wednesday evening dinner after I told him about the amazing experience I had so many years ago. We decided on a date, made reservations well in advance and after receiving a ton of text reminders and confirmation requests, we're here! The key here is to make a reservation; you'll likely not be able to get in without one - and why chance it? We arrived about 5 minutes late for our 5:45 reservation and were seated right away. Although there is a private parking lot behind the restaurant, we found easy, free street parking half a block away. We were seated on the back enclosed patio area next to the kitchen. I would have much preferred to be seated in the dining room, as the two atmospheres seem totally different, but not a date so not a big deal. If it were a date though - I'd prefer the dining room. My friend and I were greeted almost immediately by a very friendly and attentive server. Although Boccalupo has a dining time limit, we never felt rushed. If you're looking for cocktails here, be prepared to be very, very confused. The drinks are uniquely curated with references to pop culture or other semi-relevant items with no clear description but with an emoji. They are meant to be conversation pieces and somehow, impressively, your server has memorized the ingredients and descriptions of every single one and will walk you through the menu. The server will also let you know which drinks are the most popular and maybe that will help with your decision if the rattling of ingredients is too overwhelming. I chose Corner! It's a Maize in here, a corn-based cocktail made with fresh corn juice. It was unique and delicious! Both my friend and I weren't incredibly hungry so we skipped appetizers - however, we ended up waiting 30 minutes for our entrees so in retrospect we probably should have ordered something to hold us over. For my main, I absolutely had to go back to the Black Spaghetti with Hot Calabrese Sausage, Rock Shrimp & Scallions. Perhaps my palate has matured in the 9 years I've dined here in which this dish received five stars from me, but this time I felt it was great but not amazing. The dish was honestly a bit dry and LOADED with scallions. There also seemed to be less shrimp and they were cut down significantly. Compare and contrast my 2014 picture from 2023. Additionally, I felt this year's rendition was a bit on the dry side, whereas before the pasta was piping hot and full of spice and energy. If you know anything about me you'll know I'm not a big sweets person but my all-time favorite dessert is panna cotta and anytime it's on the menu, I absolutory have to order it. Boccalupo was no exception. I was very excited for the Cream Cheese Panna Cotta With Honey Berry Marmellata & Cocoa Nibs, but once again I felt like the dish was overdone with too much berry and cocoa, and that really took away from the essence of the panna cotta. Otherwise, this had the potential to be delicious. Overall, this was a great dining experience. I'd definitely come back and request to be seated in the main dining room if I were on a date. I'd likely still give their famous black spaghetti another try, no matter how many times it disappoints me, and I look forward to learning about their funky cocktails! read more

Probably one of the hardest restaurants to get a reservation to in Atlanta. When you get it, it's popping. Lots of folks here to eat, socialize, and drink. Fairly tiny spot. + Food is very delicious, the pappardelle and spaghetti nero with shrimp were fantastic. Well seasoned and fairly priced. + Chocolate mezza cotta was very good as well + Diverse menu, something for everyone - Tasting menu could be printed, or mentioned prior to visiting, its a hefty amount of food, though at a hefty price (more than Bacchanalia!) I feel if we were open to it, we would like a more advance notice of it. - Felt like our server was trying to upsell every step of the dinner. My gf also agrees with this sentiment. - *BIG* The confirmation text from Resy stating we'd only get 90 minutes for a two-top, or 2 hours for parties of 3 or more was a little tasteless. I get it's a small space and it's popular and while I'm not sure if it's enforced, this hung over my gf's head the whole time we were there. This was quite a drive for us up in Cherokee County, but after seeing the Michelin impression I figured it was worth trying for our anniversary and made a reservation. Parking is a bit tight, but we were able to find street parking about a block from the restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]This place has a very hipster feel to it, which is not a knock against it but I was a bit surprised at a server wearing matching Hawaiian print short sleeve shirt and shorts when that wasn't a uniform.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] As a personal choice, I have questions, but hey -- I wasn't there for fashion (nor should I be, because I've never aspired to being fashionable). [[HIGHLIGHT]]All that aside, the seating is a bit odd. We got there around 7 in July, and we were seated by what could be open-air doors with a lot of glass, which made the sun super bright and incredibly warm for an AC that was struggling to keep up with the load in that part of the building.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] It was fairly full, so we didn't ask for a different table and were able to change our positions at the table to get temperatures that helped us be more comfortable. What I will say, though, is that their cocktails are fantastic - the watermelon one I had was pretty good, but the "What are you, the police?" was perhaps the best cocktail my wife or I have ever had! The food was pretty good, although some descriptions were a bit misleading to us. For example, one appetizer was called "gnocchi" but was actually a polenta cake - I'm not a chef, so I'm not saying it was mislabeled, but we were expecting the more traditional, pillowy potato gnocchi. They also had some sauces that were confusingly named, especially the one that included the term "scallop XO" - again, this may be on us for not being sufficiently food educated, but once we learned it wasn't a scallop dish we just chose something else (in this case, we had asked the right question and the server explained that it wasn't a scallop dish!). Based on the confusion of the menu, I decided against the tasting menu, and I'm glad I did! We had three starters and two entrees as well as a shared dessert - we purposefully had not eaten all day so that we could fully enjoy this menu! All in all, I don't know if I would go back often, but I think it would be a great double date night place if we ever need to be in that part of town for a show or event. read more

Agree that the pasta bolognese is very good. Not crazy about the pate - very unusual and tasted more like sausage - no clue what was in it. I do wish the server had been a bit more knowledgeable about the items on the menu; he was very pleasant and attentive but unfortunately was not well informed. After living in the northeast for decades, this restaurant provides a level of service and integrity of food that doesn't exist in the south. They show up because they're proud to work there and proud of the menu they serve. Any chance I get to book this place for my closest friends and family I take the opportunity. They have a chemistry amongst the staff that can't be learned it's genuine. I love this place so much and everyone should try to experiment with it during their life span. Top 3 italian restaurants in Atlanta hands down! This restaurant usually requires reservations due to being booked. We went on a night without a reservation and were told there was a 90 month wait. We left and made reservations for another night. The food was amazing! So full of flavor and prepared perfectly. My daughter enjoyed her kids pasta. The cocktails were also really good. I love that their menu changes. My favorite dish was the tuna crudo appetizer. I wish they served it as a main dish! Will be going back! read more

Went here for a dinner on a weekend - it was very packed! There was a bit of a wait but eventually my party got seated. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very intimate, the interior was pretty dimly lit, and lots of couples were there. The food was what I expected for the restaurant. The pasta was good, but not as standout given the pricepoint of the dishes. The bathroom was clean, but there was only one so there was a line for it. Service was about average. read more
