i've been here several times and have always had a good experience until this week. i'm not sure if they have a new bar manager but the wine offerings and pricing are out of control. all glasses are only 4oz pours and average $21. all bottle prices are over $100. they have lost their minds. thats is fine for a special occasion but this is not approachable for a week night dinner out. when we asked the server about other options we were met with a terrible attitude and zero hospitality. it was so off putting that we left and had dinner at Zappa. We had 3 pastas,the black one was ok, the risotto was good but the bolognese was so delicious... now, what went wrong? The service is poor... really bad. They came with another pasta we ordered and We asked if they could pick up the dirty plates and this lady looked at me like I was crazy... she wanted to put the fresh pasta on top of the dirty plates? I love the food at BoccaLupo, but strangely haven't ever loved the experience. I could eat here every week if I enjoyed the vibe. It just feels a little like they'd rather turn the table than have you enjoy your time. That said, the food is spectacular. Wow! EXCEPTIONAL Italian food at this cool Inman Park spot. There are about 30 tables spread between a front room with a bar to the left, a center area with 4 tables and an enclosed patio in the back; outside doors closed on this cold winter evening. Decor is eclectic, the vibe is laid back and intimate. Always a good sign when the 5:30 reservations are at the the door anxiously waiting to be let in. We were among the first diners of the night and by the time we were being served every table was full. Our server, Austin took great care of us. Explained the menu, helped with choices, orders taken and delivered accurately and professionally with charm, character amd fun. THANK YOU. We started with meatballs and speck with drop biscuits. The meatballs are an homage to San Francisco's A-16, combining pork, beef and prosciutto with ricotta into scrumptious golf ball sized balls. Beautifully plated with each meatball topped with a ladle of rich pomodorro and adorned with a cheese crisp. The meatballs are separated by garlic crostini. Speck is lightly smoked ham. Similar to prosciutto bit a different texture. Several uber-thin slices are served surrounding a trio of fresh-from-the-oven drop biscuits. The plate is adorned with dollop of honey butter and apple mustard. A great contrast between the savory Speck, sweet butter and biscuit. Apple mustard, a totally unique flavor really pulls it all together. All of the pasta here is house made. I tried tagliatelle. It's served in a butter sauce with mushrooms and kale kimchi. Tagliatelle is a dream. Wide ribbons of eggy pasta, perfectly prepared. Not al dente, but firm and melts in your mouth. The earthy mushrooms and the tartness of the kale, blended with garlicky butter sauce. HOLY COW this was good. This is among the best Italian food I've had. Go To This Place. Recommended. read more

Food excellent! I ordered the spicy meatball appetizer and it was as advertised. For entree, I went with the black ink pasta which was equally delicious. Service to the table was prompt and efficient. The cocktail menu was complicated and required an 8 minute dissertation from the bartender to explain. I went with a glass of red wine. Ambiance. Noisy. We were seated in the bar area and not the dining area which was much quieter. Our rez time was 5:45 and the restaurant doors are not unlocked until 5:30. We check in with a handful of other customers and are told to wait at the bar until called. They refused to seat us until 5:45 even though the restaurant was virtually empty. They would not allow us to move tables into the dining room. The table near the bar was loud as was one of their bartenders. I could barely hear and understand what my waiter was saying. No rhyme or reason why this was handled this way. I would return only if we could be seated away from the bar. Otherwise it is a dealbreaker. read more

This is a restaurant that I would recommend to others for a night out. I had a wonderful experience at BoccaLupo. As a heads up, there is free parking for the restaurant in the back. The staff, not just our servers and hosts, were all very friendly. The servers in particular are very willing to walk you through their menu and the flavors that can be found there. Their goal seems to be to help you find the best food pairings between the appetizers and entrees. The atmosphere of the restaurant seemed to be more suited to parties of 4 or smaller and was conducive to conversation. Also, the restaurant was very clean. This trip, we ordered the hiramasa crudo as an appetizer, chicken scarpariello and braised lamb tortelli as our entrees with the burnt basque cheesecake as our dessert. Everything was delicious. The hiramasa had a depth of flavor and contrasts of textures. Our biggest disappointment was when we finished the plate. The entrees were both delicious. There were many good notes in both dishes; I would definitely recommend both of them. They were both fairly light but complex in flavor. The dessert was larger than expected. I don't know why it took me so long to dine at this place. Everything was 5-star service from the moment we walked through the door to the end. This is a solid 4.5/5 stars for me! We didn't have a reservation so we decided to get there as soon as they opened at 5:30 pm. We arrived shortly before 6 and they had a full reservation that night, so options were to wait for a bar seat or get seated at the covered patio seating. We opted for the cushioned chairs at the covered patio and we honestly had the best time. It was certainly big enough to comfortably fit 4, maybe 6, but there were only 2 of us so we had plenty of space and not cramped sitting at the bar. Our server, Brian, greeted us. It was our first time and knew they were known for their exceptional cocktails. Menu was deceiving since it didn't provide much info about their cocktails but Brian happily described them to us. I opted for What Are You The Police and my husband ordered Tiger Balm. Y'all... my cocktail was so good and refreshing! Tiger Balm was a little too spicy for my husband's liking, so not a fan of that. They also offer a 4 course tasting menu - 3 savory dishes and 1 dessert for $175. However, we opted to order off the menu. We shared Brussel sprouts, snapper ceviche, tagliatelle with mushrooms and black spaghetti. -Brussel sprouts with pine street peck, wild persimmon and marsala syrup: loved the crispy bits of the Brussel sprouts and definitely best eaten with the peck for contrast of flavors. There were some capers for a nice added salt ball but could be overwhelming when eaten with the already salty speck and cheese. Wish there was another acidic component instead. -Snapper ceviche: my husband preferred this over the Brussel sprouts. snapper was fresh and loved the freshness of this dish. Chips added extra salt component to the dish. -Tagliatelle with mushrooms, tuscan kale kimchi and European butter: loved the chewiness of the pasta. This dish had different sorts of mushroom too, which I loved! The tuscan kale part got lost on me - since there was no kale in sight (it was also dark in the patio and I could have missed this). The kimchi flavor added a bit of sourness to the dish, yet still creamy with the European butter -Black spaghetti with Calabrese sausage, rock shrimp and scallions: the start of the show! Pasta was well cooked. Wish the sausage was spicier than it advertised to be. There were bits and pieces of rock shrimp but I loved the scallions as a part of this dish. You definitely need to mix everything together to get that full effect. The sausage almost acted as crispy texture to the dish. Would eat this every day if I could. Looked like there was a private lot parking behind the building, but we parked on Edgewood and just walked over. I HIGHLY recommend to make reservations if you can! I've been many times before with family, ordered off the menu, and ordered the course meal. Loved each time. When I made a reservation for tonight, I requested a personalized menu for my girlfriend's birthday, if it wasn't too much of a lift for them. They delivered. Had a wonderful printed menu wishing her Happy Birthday. They were excited to show it to her and so so attentive throughout our meal. Our server was absolutely amazing and so funny and sweet. The rest of the staff was also incredibly attentive and obviously cared about the food and how things were arriving. The Food: Always amazing. 10/10 forever. But I'll expand. The course meal tonight was inspired. We also added a few a la carte dishes to fill in the gaps. It's hard to choose a favorite, but from the a la carte, the beef carpaccio was phenomenal: savory, salty, creamy. From the course meal: the white truffle gnocchi. I've never had such a tender, amazingly textured gnocchi. Fresh mushrooms were an amazing and meaty part of the dish. The sauce was rich, but light. Of course freshly shaved white truffles elevate anything! The steak dish had this delicious earthy flavor with a perfect crust. We also ordered the wine pairing which is $55 per person and gives you very generous half pour per dish sent out. All wines were perfectly paired, one white, two reds, and a 20 yr port. The port surprised me in how much I liked it considering it's not something I would have typically ordered, but it went very well with dessert. Dessert: the course dessert was an apple compote sort of cake dish with goat cheese ice cream that was very very good. But we also ordered a banana cake with muscadine sorbet that stole the show. Finally, they sent us a complimentary peach gelato(sorbet?) with a wafer cookie (nutty and crispy) that was divine. All in all such a great special occasion restaurant that is cozy and romantic, but can double as a casual meal with friends should you want. We had a dinner reservation for a party of 4 at 7:45 pm on Thursday, 9/8/22. Apparently cars in their parking lot get broken into a lot, so I parked on the street and it was fine. Parking is free. Nice ambiance. Dim lighting. We sat on the closed patio and while they had a fan, it was still super hot. The portions for the price just wasn't worth it to me. Here's what I tried: - Burrata with Heirloom Tomato, Compressed Watermelon & Flatbread ($16): This was good, but the presentation felt sloppy. I wish the burrata had come as one big piece. - Roman Fried Cauliflower ($14): Fine. - Mafaldine "Cacio e Pepe" ($25): For a dish with black truffle, it just didn't have that much flavor! Disappointing. - Goat Cheese Mezzaluna ($23): Fine, but nothing special. - Short Rib Filled Tortelloni ($28): This was my favorite out of all 3 main dishes. It had the most flavor. Simply amazing tastes! This place isn't huge but their flavors are. We started with drinks. I had the Aperol Spritz and she had a Margarita with ginger beer. We had the mussels and meatball appetizers. Mussels were not in shell as you'd think. They were on top of crostinis and very fresh. Meatballs were a good size and spicy, but not overly! I had the southern fried chicken parm with collards. I cannot begin to explain how divine this tasted. The white sauce with the collards interlaced with the fusilli was the star in my opinion. The chicken was tender and the red sauce was good. The portion could feed you twice, easily. My friend had the chicken ravioli which tasted strangely sweet and fresh at the same time. Absolutely loved this place. They have a really unique and inventive menu with a great variety. Every single pasta that we tried was phenomenal but we especially loved the chicken parm. The server was really friendly and the ambience is perfect. My only bit of minor feedback is about the drink menu. It's not descriptive at all about what is in the cocktail. Been twice and can't wait to go back! One of the few places where I am so enamored with the food I forget to take photos... maybe I'll take time next time? Probably not. I started off with their Personal Jesus cocktail both times and it is fabulous (they can explain what's in it). The meatball appetizer explodes with flavor - got that both times as well. I have had both the Carbonara (not always on the menu) and the Spicy Black Spaghetti (always on the menu). The Carbonara was rich creamy perfection. The Black Spaghetti is definitely spicy. They warned me and set proper expectations so it was all good. The heat sneaks up and comes on gradually. The problem is, the dish is so savory and loaded with shrimp that it is hard to stop until your face is sweating. They have their own Gelato machine so save room. If you have been to Italy, that memory will come back to life with your first taste (so said my wife over the Pistachio gelato). Cookies are perfect for me - crisp candied edges, gooey inside. Came here without a reservation so we had to wait at least half an hour, even on a weekday but it was worth it. Started off with a fried oyster sandwich thing which was pretty good. The oysters were really juicy and the batter was light. For my main meal, I got the black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage, rock shrimp, and scallions. It also came with some crunchy stuff on top which gave it a contrast in texture. The sausage was minced and mixed into the pasta so I honestly couldn't really taste it but the shrimp was cut into chunks and there was a good amount of it. The pasta was al dente and had a bit spicy flavor from the sausage. Overall a decent plate of pasta and very well made. read more

When we last lived in Atlanta, my wife and I tried to dine at Boccaluppo but failed due to a characteristically Atlantan summer torrential downpour that physically prevented us from entering the restaurant. We've thought about it since that epic failure and took the opportunity to have dinner here recently. Despite another heavy thunderstorm, we actually managed to make it this time and enjoyed our meal immensely. We arrived a little early to our reservation time and were guided towards the bar for a pre dinner drink. My wife and I both enjoyed our balanced and creative cocktails that complimented our meal quite well. Once our reservation time came, the host sat us immediately and our waiter arrived shortly after. He possessed great insights on the menu and offered excellent suggestions regarding the numerous, enticing options. We settled on two starters and two pasta dishes, which ended up being the perfect amount of food. Our first two dishes took a little while to come out of the kitchen, but we enjoyed them nonetheless. The octopus and potato dish here is served chilled and had subtle yet bright flavors from the seafood and shellfish. We really loved the eggplant dish which represented a riff on eggplant parmesan. Lightly fried, crispy eggplant with creamy ricotta and a rich tomato sauce tasted fresh yet comforting. For the main courses, we opted for the summer squash caramelle with suckling pig as well as the famous Southern chicken parmesan. Both dishes tasted great, with the chicken parm scoring the highest marks. That dish offered a generous, crispy chicken cutlet blanketed in a robust tomato sauce and the perfect amount of melted cheese. It arrived aside a helping of perfectly cooked, cheesy pasta and braised creamy collard greens. Like the eggplant dish, this was pure comfort. The caramelle consisted of perfectly cooked pasta parcels tossed with a light tomato sauce and bok choy kimchi topped with suckling pig tenderloin. While each individual component of the dish excelled, we both wished the pork component was better integrated into the dish rather than a simple topping. Nonetheless, we are the whole thing happily and appreciated the flavors. The pasta here truly excels and the kitchen offers unique, Southern inspired takes on Italian fare. Any lover of pasta should make their way to Boccaluppo. In my opinion, no other restaurant in Atlanta does fresh pasta better, and the fun cocktails, tasty appetizers, and great service round out the experience and make it one of the best meals in the city. read more

The cocktail list is funky because the names are essentially the vibe of the drink and there is no description, but the server guided us and we were both happy with our choices. Was in the Inman Park area a couple days ago and saw this place and wanted to visit. It's right on the corner so it's easy to see. I'm not sure if there is a parking lot but there is plenty of street parking. We had reservations and were seated as soon as we arrived. Our waitress was really nice and knowledgeable about the menu. It wasn't as busy at first but did pick up as we were leaving. (It was a Friday night) The cocktails were really good and you could definitely taste the alcohol. Although the drinks were pretty small, everything else was on point. The food was really good, so amazing. I recommend getting the Gem Salad. Tonight, we started with the pulled pork bruschetta and cauliflower. The bruschetta was perfect, large, flavorful - yes! The cauliflower is always stellar and I despise cauliflower . This stuff is so good. Try it. You won't regret it. For my entree I had the chicken parm pasta. This is a YAASSSSS. The waitress said this is their largest entree, so if you are famished, this is the dish for you. I only ate half. Creamy collards? Who woulda thought?! I hope this stays on the menu. It was just so stellar. The chicken was moist and perfectly fried - not too much breading. I also had the latte. It's just a latte I guess but man it was great, too. We also had the cookie dessert. It came with 2 cookies. Some chocolate cookie and a snickerdoodle. They looked hard, but they were both very soft. Service is attentive attentive. The covered patio is great for the Covid era. We came at 6:30 on a Saturday night, and all 3 people in our party were able to park in their lot. Seeing Pictures of the black spaghetti is what drew me in initially. The old fashioned I ordered was on point and delicious. The black spaghetti with hot calabrese sausage and red shrimp sounded awesome, but honestly wasn't that great to me. The pasta which is infused with squid ink was mushy and I didn't enjoy the flavor. The dessert deserves 5 stars alone. I can't remember the exact name, but it included cheesecake ganache and apples. It was seriously phenomenal! I would return solely to order it again, but they change their menu frequently and it hasn't been listed. The service was good and prompt. BoccaLupo is a fantastic restaurant. If you have more than a couple people you will want to make a reservation. If you are on your own or with one other person then you might be able snag a spot at the bar. If you arrive early then they will have you wait on the half wall near the bar until your seats are ready and a server will stop by and let you order drinks while you wait. Know that their menu changes with seasons so while some items will stay, others change out so you might not be able to have exactly what is described in a review. The beauty of a restaurant like BoccaLupo is that you know you are drinking and eating the highest quality foods and beverages. Two of us started with the Snow on the Beach which is their twist of a veagn egg nog. It was delicious, but I recommend having it as dessert. The other two in our party had the cocktail that is first on the December 2022 menu that is made with gin and it was a light Christmas in a drink. The second round of drinks happened after we sat down and I had the FDNY which is their well constructed and tasty Manhattan, my hubby had the What Are You, the Police? and our friends had a glass of red. We began our meal with two apps. One was the Burrata with beets and the other was the fried brussel sprouts. Both were delicious and the perfect beginning tastes for the evening. Had the worst dinner experience here since moving to Atlanta. It started with a rude, ill-tempered male host with long hair (who was combing his bare hands through his sweaty hair all night, seating guests and handing them paper menus with his hair sweat and grease all over them). My father and I walked in early for our dinner reservation to see if they'd seat us early-- I was going to wait at the bar while he checked in, but the male host stops me to say the bar is reservation only. Fine. He tells us they're fully booked, but we can wait for a table to open up. Fair enough. So I asked where we can wait nearby (given we apparently can't be at the bar), and the host's sarcastic response: "I mean this is the best place in the area for cocktails according to Michelin, but what do I know?" He ended up having us stand near a ledge and order cocktails. After an HOUR and a HALF of standing, I go up to ask about some of the empty tables or bar seats in plain view. The host is now hyper-defensive and stubborn. He now claims they're "staggering those tables for the kitchen" (why would you have more tables than your kitchen can handle...?) As he's rudely making up excuses for not seating us, complaining about his "high stress job," two separate parties get up and leave. I inquire about those tables, and he finally blurts out: "I am NOT seating you until 9:45p" He was so out of control that his female colleague stepped in to offer to seat my father and I at the bar (since the host was clearly being too stubborn to do that). We accepted and even as I was walking away from the host stand over to the bar seat, the host is still heckling at me from behind. We were STARVING and once we finally received the food, it was nasty and we couldn't even finish one dish. The bolognese tasted like straight up thyme. The risotto tasted like airplane food. Oh, and water from an unknown source was dripping on my dad's head the whole time. It was supposed to be a nice father-daughter dinner that turned into a 2-hour standing wait, gross host, greasy menus, and subpar food. Absolutely NOT worth a visit. read more

Loved the ambiance and staff. It's pretty loud inside so not really a quiet intimate restaurant. Cocktails were unique. We had the Can I Get a Pitcher and Personal Jesus. Personal Jesus was my favorite. The food was overall too salty for us. We had the Spicy Yellow tail Tuna Crudo with Crispy Rice, Black Spaghetti(spicy), and the Pappardelle Bolognese. This restaurant was recommended by a friend but did not live up to my expectations. read more

My friends and I had a great dining experience last night. Our server was friendly and gave thoughtful recommendations. We ended up doing a family style meal that included the chef's tasting and 2 extra dishes. This was just enough food for 3 people. The flavor throughout the meal was immaculate. The chef's tasting got us out of our comfort zone and the dishes were great conversation starters. The house made pasta was perfection. It was nice to not be rushed and fully enjoy the 4-course format. We loved every aspect of this experience! read more

First time in Atlanta and saw this restaurant on multiple lists including Eater so I had to check it out. Arrived close to 6:30 on a Saturday night and easily grabbed a seat at the bar. Fantastic service by the bartender who offered both a la carte and a tasting menu. Food: A-16 Spicy meatballs with ricotta, frico, and garlic crostini - recommended by a new friend at the bar AND the bartender. Absolutely did not let down. Every bite was lovely with a nice hint of heat at the end. The crostini was perfection as well. (5/5) Pan fried fusilli w greens and cheese - simple but extremely well executed. Flavors were beautiful and this joined my clean plate club easily. The texture was amazing with the crunch from the pan fry and the softness of the cheese. (4.8/5) Ended with coffee gelato served with a warm and huge pizelle cookie. I was stuffed at this point but had no issues finishing this up. That's how good it was. (5/5) Absolutely lovely dinner that was only surpassed by the friendly staff and patrons. read more

Dined at Boccalupo for the first time on a Saturday and realized right away just how popular this spot is! We snagged a last minute Resy cancellation, but throughout the night the bar (which is first-come first-serve) had clusters of people waiting for open seats or who were waiting for a table as one of the restaurant's limited walk-in parties for the night. The atmosphere was intimate and cozy. We first got a rundown of their cocktail list by our server Abby (who was amazing!). They purposely keep their cocktail list a bit secretive, with just vague descriptions of each drink to not disclose what's actually in each one. They do this so it's more of a conversation between the servers and guests - guests can ask about drinks that seem intriguing to get more info, which was a fun touch to the menu. For food, we ordered the spicy meatball appetizer, the black spaghetti and carbonara pastas, and the cookies and white chocolate gelato for dessert. Everything was delicious! The black spaghetti is one of Boccalupo's signature dishes, with shrimp and spicy sausage, and it did not disappoint. Would highly recommend this spot (and a reservation)! read more
