    Chicken and waffles
    Kat G.

Nice little breakfast/lunch spot. I thought it a bit pricey, and we ended up having to pay to park, so that added to the expense. Hubby had French toast and I had chicken and waffles with a peach compote. Good coffee and good food, basic, nothing spectacular but you won't be disappointed either. Nice staff, friendly and efficient.

We went on a weekday morning, early, so there was absolutely no wait. Our waiter was quick and attentive, and our food came out quickly. The quality of the food was impressive and fresh. The grits had bit of fresh corn, which I loved, and all of the food was fresh and well-made. We were walking, but I did not see a ton of close parking. However, the resturaunt is funky and comfortable inside.

    Chicken Pot Pie and tea

THE BEST CHICKEN POT PIE OF ALL TIME!! i had a great experience at FolkArt. the ambiance is very casual but has a cool feeling to it. the service could be a little better but it wasn't bad. we had everything we needed. the chicken and waffle was good as well. the only thing i would change was that the chicken was slightly dry. not terribly dry but it could be more moist. the drinks were $4 for a tea and a pineapple juice which is not exorbitant (at least for in the city). over all i would say this is a must try!!

I really loved this little place in Decatur. It felt like walking into a local diner that was family owned, but more upscale. Our waiter was really nice and made some great recommendations. I ended up getting their pork chop sandwich which I wouldn't have ever gotten without their recommendation and it was fantastic. My guest also loved her lunch but I was too busy elbows deep in mine to remember what she got. Or take a photo. Just remember to take your statin before you come

This was actually my second time visiting, so I decided to try something different from the menu. On my first visit, I ordered the smoked salmon and poached eggs breakfast entrée. This time around, I went with the shrimp and grits. While the presentation wasn't the best, the dish was extremely flavorful. It truly hit all the taste notes that make a meal memorable. 10/10 -- would absolutely recommend!

House made food with excellent flavor. My husband NEVER likes grits but these were a hit because they were so hearty and even had pieces of corn. Everyone was friendly and I love that they offer some outdoor seating for days when the weather is nice. Parking not the greatest but there's a garage right across the street. Overall, Highly recommend.

Been wanting to go here for a little while now, I love the location in downtown Decatur however I was a little unimpressed. We sat at the bar in hopes of faster service... that was not the case. We received our food but trying to get someone's attention for silverware took quite a while. The drinks were just ok, although they have quite a few cocktails available. And the food was just okay... nothing super special. However, the restaurant itself is really pretty. Ambiance is chill, definitely a place where you can meet with a friend to catch up so that was nice.

Stopped in for brunch and got a few items. I got the Reuben with a substitute for turkey. It did not really look like turkey. It look more like corned beef, but it was good. The French toast was just OK. However, the corn beef hash was amazing. The service was great and the ambience is very laid-back. I will try a couple more dishes. The next time I go back overall had a good experience.

Service was outstanding, food was good as well. We went for brunch on Sunday and since we arrived closer to their time to closing, we were able to be seated immediately. Our server was friendly, prompt and provided a few suggestions. We ordered our breakfast and everything was cooked to perfection. Served hot and was fresh. Cobb salad with pork on side was refreshing and the perfect portion size. The breakfast platter was served with a pumpkin pancake, choice of meat and eggs cooked to your liking. No complaints. Parking is available at a reduced rate if you park in the correct parking lot.

Came in last Sunday for breakfast. Such a cute spot! We got there around 10am and easily got a seat. It started filling up around 11. Our waiter was nice and attentive. I got a sweet potato pancake with peanut butter and banana plus a side of eggs. The pancake was soooo good!! Definitely recommend!

Grits and whole hog sausage on side, excellent

Top notch breakfast brunch spot! Can't go wrong with any of the dishes. Excellent food, excellent Bloody Mary, good service. One of the few places where you can get decent grits that actually taste great! One of the few places that sells whole hog sausage, also delicious. Today's meal was short ribs and grits. The corned beef hash is a favorite. Every dish I've eaten here has been very good and very well presented! I took off a star because it can get pricey, particularly with the small, unexpected upcharges.

Great breakfast spot right outside the city! Location and Parking Located in downtown Decatur, Folk art validates parking in the garage for 2 hours. Street parking is free on Sunday. Venue and Atmosphere The bright retro feel of Folk Art drew me in immediately! I opted for table seated and enjoyed my table being bathed in natural light while I perused the menu. Service Service was prompt, courteous, and efficient. Food and Beverages I had the reuben and cobb salad. While the salad was refreshing and delicious (always order extra dressing), the reuben needed more cheese and sauce. Verdict I'll be back!

Their reservation system was down when we went so we ended up waiting about 20-30 min for a table. I shared their fries bucket for the app and I had the crispy confit chicken for dinner. We ended up paying extra for more sauces and some were a hit like the aoli and the sesame soy, but the hot sauce was just a normal Tabasco like sauce so I didn't think it was worth paying for. I had the crispy chicken confit for my dinner and it was amazing!! No notes!! The pork belly that my fiance got was also super tender and flavorful. My little sister kept it simple with the grilled chicken, fresh raw veggies, fresh lemonade, and ice cream for dessert. She was happy, so that's what matters! We started with the bucket of fries for the table and sampled all the dipping sauces: garlic aioli, sweet chili BBQ, and Diablo. The Diablo wasn't spicy like I expected, but it had really great flavor. The garlic aioli was my personal favorite, while the sweet chili BBQ was the crowd favorite around the table. For my meal, I ordered the blackened burger with bacon and jalapeños, plus the kale Caesar salad. Adding the bacon and jalapeños was definitely the right move! The burger was juicy, flavorful, and incredibly filling. The kale Caesar was much larger than I expected, so keep that in mind if you're ordering it as a side. We also tried the pork belly, which I'd give a 7.5/10. It was good, but it wasn't the standout dish of the meal. For drinks, the Seed Spitter was incredibly fresh and refreshing, and the Strawberry Delight was another solid choice. Overall, Leon's has a relaxed neighborhood vibe with generous portions, flavorful food, and fun sauces to try. I'd definitely come back. Overall rating: 8/10.

My mothers and I visited Platez last night for a nice dinner out before a show. We didn't have a…read morereservation, but was seated immediately. There was some confusion on where to enter the building due to lack of signage, but we figured it out. Upon entering, I immediately was overwhelmed by how loud the music was. I have sensory issues and asked if we could be seated outside, but was told that there was a party outside. We were seated inside and no one in my group could hear each other speak the whole time we ate due to how loud the music was. We couldn't hear the server either. Our server immediately gave us menus, silverware, and waters. He didn't introduce himself or really say much of anything. We were left to look at the menus for 5-10 minutes. Upon looking at the menus, we were extremely disappointed to see that much of what we came for was not available due to it being a brunch item. This was not communicated ANYWHERE on the website and we would not have chosen to dine here had we known. We chose to stay and eat due to already paying $10 for parking across the street. Once we came to terms with the fact that we would not be eating french toast or waffles, we began looking at the menu to decide what to order. It was then that I noticed how expensive everything was. The food is even more expensive than the menu on the website, and the item that I decided upon - the catfish and grits - was $30. This is unreasonably expensive for what it was and I would have priced it at about $18 to be generous. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes for our food and eventually my catfish and grits and my mother's shrimp and grits were served. The sauce around the grits was cold, and the grits themselves weren't super hot. It was obvious that they had been sitting while the fish and shrimp was being cooked. The portion itself was too much to eat in one sitting and grits are not something that would reheat well so we left them instead of trying to take them home. When our grits were served, the waiter told us my step-mother's smothered pork chop would be right out. It did not come for another 10 minutes. One of her sides was a salad, but not even that was brought out. While my mother and I's grits were phenomenal in flavor, my step-mother's pork chop was barely edible. She said that it was tough, especially when she was not provided anything more than a butter knife to cut with, and the gravy on top was so salty that I gagged upon tasting it. It tasted like gravy mix from a packet that was combined with the drippings from a meat that had already been seasoned. My step-mother prefers things to be more salty, but even she had to peel the breading off to be able to eat the pork chop. Keep in mind, this was also about $30. Our service was poor. The waiter didn't introduce himself, as I said, and he did not ask if we wanted anything more than water to drink. He was barely able to be heard over the loud music, but he also didn't say much. He did not check up on us during our meal or say anything while we waited 40+ minutes for our food. And when we went up to the cash register to pay our bill, we were left standing there for about 5 minutes while various servers and workers walked by and went behind the register without even acknowledging our presence. This was very off-putting and a terrible way to end a lackluster dinning experience. Upon paying our bill, we were forced to pay a mandatory 15% tip and a 7% service fee. And then they had the audacity to ask for an additional tip despite their poor service. We all left Platez feeling very disappointed, despite how delicious my mother and I's grits were. We all had the sentiment that we would have had a better time eating at Waffle House because we went for brunch food in the first place. Platez is (in my opinion) horribly overpriced and the service was terrible. I try to be positive, but I would never come here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

It took well over an hour and a half after ordering for our food to arrive. I ordered the chicken & waffles, cornbread bites, and a strawberry peach margarita. The cornbread bites with honey drizzle were a nice start, and the margarita was balanced and refreshing. Unfortunately, the chicken--though cooked properly--wasn't seasoned, and the waffle was overcooked. On top of that, the service left much to be desired. I had to ask multiple times for condiments and waited over 20 minutes just to receive them. Customer service is very important to me, and this really hurt the experience. What made it worse was the bill. A large party tip, an extra "service fee," and then a regular tip option added up to an outrageous total -- especially considering the lack of preparation, slow service, and disappointing food. Overall, while the drinks were good, the combination of unseasoned food, long waits, and excessive charges makes it hard for me to recommend this place or want to return.

The wait staff was attentive, making sure we had our beverages and if we needed anything before the 2 arrived. Once they arrived, the staff gave us a few minutes to make sure the 2 had a chance to look at the menus. We ordered appetizers to start...corn bread, sage fried pierogies and poutine. We weren't sure about the poutine because we didn't see any gravy, we did see the cheese curds on the fries, but once we finally dug in, the gravy was at the bottom. The pierogies were tasty. We asked if they could cut the cornbread so each of us could get a taste, which they did. Corn bread had a toasted texture, and the honey butter was delicious! Everyone ordered something different. One had fish and chips, which would seem to be a likely order for a pub. Their special for the day was a ruben. Another ordered a falafel sandwich, and I think 2 salmon BLT's and then one salad with rainbow trout. Portions were not overwhelming, but we realized that we were full from the appetizers and almost everyone ended up taking most of their main choices in doggie bags (boxes). As time got closer to the festival to start, it did get crowded, but the staff handled the influx of people and people were seated relatively quickly. The place is much bigger than it looks from the front because it extends around the corner behind the counter and they greet you when you come in.

Will start by saying this place is so affordable which is hard to find these days, and I appreciate…read morethe amount of vegan options! Service was slow, almost an hour to get our food and we came on a weekday morning (can't even imagine the weekend rush!). The biscuits are DELICIOUS especially with the apple butter they have on the table, but I would skip the cornbread. Super super dry and grainy. Also the fried okra was tough to get through because of the size. I do wish they maybe had some fresh juice options available in addition to all of the coffees and teas, but it was fine overall and I wouldn't mind going again.

Our server was really nice and helped explain the menu to us because we had questions for sure. For food: I got a beef patty and skillet corn bread while my friend had a dish with green bananas. I thought the beef patty was good but the corn bread was a bit hard although the berry jam did make it a little softer. My friend thought her dish was just alright. The ambiance for the place was great and I enjoyed the vibe. But the food was just alright.

I heard mostly positive things about this restaurant from a few family members, so I was curious to check it out. This Caribbean/Southern fusion spot is located as the anchor of a strip mall with other restaurants next door. The great thing is that there is plenty of parking. We came on a Saturday evening; thankfully it was not crowded, so we were able to sit down immediately. Food: I ordered the stewed chicken wings which comes with plantains and jasmine rice. I also ordered a side of roasted brussel sprouts. The wings were very good, falling off the bone tender. I also loved the flavoring of the rice, and the plantains were perfectly sweet. I was not a big fan of the brussel sprouts. They had a thick honey sauce on them that was overpowering, and they were very soft in texture. The positive side is that they give you a ton of food for the price. Service: There weren't many staff working this evening from what I could see. Our server greeted us promptly and checked on us several times before we ordered food. Once we ordered our food, it honestly went down hill. It just took extremely long to get anyone's attention for help. It also took close to 30 mins just to get our check. When the check came, they initially said they couldn't split it and added an automatic 20% gratuity. On their site, it says they do that for parties of 4 or more, but we were only a party of 3. The manager let the server split the check, but they would not remove the gratuity. I always tip well, so it wasn't the end of the world, it was just the principle for me. While I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, I might consider checking them out again for brunch.
