I really loved this little place in Decatur. It felt like walking into a local diner that was family owned, but more upscale. Our waiter was really nice and made some great recommendations. It mostly consisted of just eggs. A parking deck is located just around the corner but you also have Decatur Train Station about two blocks away if you don't drive. This time around, I went with the shrimp and grits. While the presentation wasn't the best, the dish was extremely flavorful. One of the few places where you can get decent grits that actually taste great! One of the few places that sells whole hog sausage, also delicious. Today's meal was short ribs and grits. Our brunch date began around 10:45am this morning (Saturday). I parked in the parking garage directly across from the restaurant (viewable from the window). Sadly, I found out that they don't validate! They do however offer discounted parking on a different garage, so be sure to park there instead. My friend walked in as I was parking and immediately got us a table. For a Saturday, this was especially exciting. I had worried about this since I couldn't find online where they took reservations for parties under 10 people, but I didn't need to! While they had other patrons dining already, they weren't completely slammed. I walked in the doors and entered a cute, casual restaurant with artsy flair. Our waitress was stylish and friendly. I ordered the three egg omelette with Gruyère, red peppers, green peppers, and mushrooms. The omelette was a little well-done for my taste, but still yummy. It came with a thick cup of grits that had corn in it, which gave it a nice sweet taste, as well as a choice of toast (I went with an English muffin for an up-charge), along with my request for the peach habanero jam that was calling my name. What a fantastic place. I visited Folk Art with my fellow Elite, Ashley B., on a weekday afternoon and we had such a wonderful experience! This Folk Art location is nestled in a row of lovely restaurants that may go unnoticed if you don't know what you're looking for. Despite being smaller than some restaurants, there were still so many seating options available inside and on their covered terrace. There was also tons of free parking outside in an adjoining lot which can be a rarity these days. We were seated and paired up with Cam as our waiter and, wow. What a great guy! He was so patient, super nice and so open to sharing his recommendations. He seemed like he was happy to be at work and was in such a good mood, it rubbed off on me! We started with cappuccinos and the grit balls as we decided on our entrees. My coffee was so delicious, mixed with just the perfect amount of caramel. Such a great pick-me-up. The grit balls were delicious! The peach jam was such a great pairing with the fried grit balls, a great recommendation from Cam. For an entree I went for the 'Foul Play' which is their take on chicken and waffles. I'm not a huge chicken and waffles fan but I went for it. Everything was perfectly cooked but it's still not the raving success for me as it is for others lol. Before we left I grabbed a lavender lemonade and, WOW. It was SO good. My cousin and I decided to drop by Folk Art in Decatur after our first brunch spot didn't work out--and I'm glad we did! Even with no reservations on a Sunday late afternoon, we only waited about 15 minutes before grabbing seats at the bar. Not bad at all! We kicked things off with the Grit Fritters--deep-fried, cheesy goodness with just the right kick from the jalapeños, perfectly complemented by that sweet and spicy peach-habanero jam. For the main event, we both went for Eggs Benedict (because, why not?!). I had the Crab Cake Benedict with hashbrowns and a Sweet Potato Waffle on the side, while my cousin got the Short Rib Benedict loaded with peppers, sautéed spinach, and tomatoes. Both Bennies were absolute winners--flavorful, well-balanced, and perfectly executed! The hashbrowns were crispy perfection, but the sweet potato waffle fell a little short--thin, slightly overcooked, and not the Belgian-style thickness I expected. The flavor was there, though, so I'd be willing to give it another shot. Heads up on parking: It can be a bit of a challenge--only paid parking garages or paid street parking, which fills up fast on a busy brunch day. I was in town for a quick visit and got recommended by friends to check this place out. The ambiance is great with plenty of indoor seating and a bar area. I sat at the bar and the service was quick and efficient. The price was decent, and I had to pay for parking. At first, we chose a table, but it looked a bit sparse and limited, so we opted for the bar instead. We were seated quickly, and after a few minutes, our server, Jordan, came by to check on us. There were QR codes on the bar to scan for the menu, but she also offered paper menus --which we appreciated. I already knew what I was getting before we arrived: the Maple French Toast with sausages. Wifey went with the Complete Breakfast (eggs any style, choice of breakfast meat w\ grits and toast) and a coffee. They offer a nice selection of specialty coffees, so I ordered a mocha. Our drinks came out first. My mocha was delicious, just a little on the small side--it was nearly gone before the food even hit the table. When the food arrived, it looked and tasted great. My French toast portion was huge! While we were eating, the place really started to fill up. A line even started forming outside, so I'd say we came at just the right time. We don't come to Folk Art very often and it had been a while since our last visit. I'm not sure if the menu has changed at all, but we were pleasantly surprised by some of the options. We stopped by early on a Friday morning, and there were only a few other patrons inside, which meant it was nice and quiet. We chose where we wanted to sit and our server came over right away. We'd taken a look at the menu ahead of time, so we were ready to order. I wanted the three-egg omelette and chose sautéed spinach, tomato, chicken sausage, and feta as my fillings. I decided to sub out the hash browns for grits instead. And biscuits aren't listed as a side on the menu, but I was able to get one of those instead of toast with my omelette. My husband had the same meal but with a couple of different selections for his omelette. Our food didn't take long to arrive. When it did, we were both pleased with how flavorful everything tasted. The sautéed spinach was seasoned well and added a very nice touch to the omelette. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and we didn't have a ton of time to linger that morning so we were also grateful that we were able to get in and out pretty quickly. The only thing I have to note is that each time we've come to this location, there has been a faint damp smell in the air, and it almost feels a bit humid inside. So this is officially my first time eating at this restaurant. I visited years ago when I had my orange Dodge Challenger and I tried the parking garage across the street the app didn't work with my phone then. Fast forward to last Saturday I tried again the parking garage across the street it didn't work with my new phone so then I tried parking app.com around the corner on the sidewalk no luck I went home. I found out today from my waiter that I can park at their parking garage that says public parking right past the building with the blue arrow $5.00 for 2 hours! This time I actually ubered to the restaurant you learn something new every day. I have to admit that I am unfamiliar with the area, but i have a family member in the hospital aprx 14 minutes away. The food was great. I got the folk southern fried, which consists of a fried chicken breast on top of a biscuit, with 2 eggs and covered with sausage gravy! The food was delicious! So flavorful. The gravy was an excellent consistency. I must say that even though the place was not busy, I wasn't greeted properly. I was asked if I was picking up, which struck me as odd until I observed the next poc after me was a grub hub delivery driver. The order was to go, for me alone. The real issue was the auto gratuity of 15% wasn't mentioned beforehand. On top of that they ask for a add on tip of 2% to7%. I stumbled because the percentages were wrong but I figured I would correct that with cash. Of course they don't print the receipt first and then take payments because of course then you would be informed. Also be aware there is also a to go fee! I don't like feeling like im being taken advantage of. Unfortunately with the app, it doesn't tell you that free parking is non existent. My friends and I came here on a Saturday around 9:45 am to find them already almost full. We opted to sit at the bar since there was a wait for actual tables plus I enjoy watching the cooks in action anyways. We got their mimosas and champagne punch which we delicious. For food we tried their french toast with a side of sausage, turkey melt with a side of hash browns, and braised short rib eggs Benedict. The french toast was thick and served with real maple syrup. My turkey melt was made with a well toasted hearty wheat bread, filled with caramelized onions, cheese and turkey. Hash browns were crisp and salty. Then the short rib was beyond tender and so flavorful. We were all so happy with our choices and I already can't wait to come back to this comfortable, diner experience. I am visiting from out of town and am very disappointed with this place. It was recommended by a friend so we went for brunch. There were six of us and they sat us at a table that could fit use instantly water was dropping from the vent. I told the person that sat us and asked if we could move she said there was no where else to move us and the table behind us had the same issue. She said we could sit outside but would have to wait as had already waited about 20 minutes. The water kept dropping and I asked the server if there was a manager. He said the woman that sat us was the manager. They also ended up seating another large party at the table behind us and they were complaining of the same issue. The main problem I have is the manager knew there was a problem with water dripping but she said nothing to us about it prior to seating us she could have said there is an issue with water dripping do you still want to sit here. That would have been the appropriate response. She also told us they knew there was an issue and the repair man was coming this week. This is not acceptable and as a manager it's unbelievable that they seat patrons at these tables and say nothing about the issue. So I cannot recommend this service and the manager for her handling of it. Would not return. read more

MUST VISIT BRUNCH SPOT - Folk Art has always been one of my go-to brunch spots in Atlanta - I was excited to see them open a second location in Decatur (slightly closer to me than their first location). When we arrived, we had the pup in tow, but there was some limited outdoor seating. It was a bit chilly outside but we had prepared for the elements and they did have some heaters. I'm an iced coffee girl but it was way too cold while sitting outside - so two hot coffees were necessary. We started with sweet potato beignets because those were my favorites from the original location. They weren't as pretty as the ones I remembered but still tasted delicious. We went with the Short Rib & Grits and the Folk Southern Fried and found both dishes to be delicious, albeit a bit on the heavy side of the brunch spectrum. The outdoor seating is a bit sparse so definitely don't recommend it unless you're ok with braving the elements! We also had some extremely slow service due partially to the power outage that occurred during the meal, as well as the server having to run out from the busy restaurant inside. If you live in Decatur, you'll know that it is a nightmare where parking is concerned. After a long absence, I have decided to give Decatur a second chance and visit a restaurant that isn't on a lot with private parking. Sunday morning, 9.30am was the magical hour to visit Folk Art. 1. Street parking is free on Sunday. Bonus! 2. Folk Art was still relatively empty, it was at half capacity. Was shown to a table immediately. I remember having to wait an hour for one last time we went to a Folk Art. 3. Service was fast. Servers were their usual happy chirpy efficient self before the madness began. So there you have it, the formula. The restaurant had a pleasant, bright, fresh decor. Felt like I was in a prairie lol. Because the menu look extensive and every item was tempting, sounded like I could eat everything and they would all taste good. We had to actively decide to get and what we could put off for the next visit. Our server came to visit us 3 times before we could tell her what we finally wanted. We got an order of pancakes. We didn't specify what kind of pancake, except there were 3 on a plate. When the pancakes came, it was a darker color than the usual. Biting into it, we soon realized they were sweet potato. I've had similar pancakes before at other restaurants and didn't like the consistency but THIS was da bomb! I love the cinnamon flavor that lingered, the fragrance was comforting. Perfect for a cool morning. You have to order this. I had the shrimp & grits. Generous number of shrimps. The grits were smooth, gravy was rich, not salty which I love. I just wished there were less onions and no corn kernels. Of course the gravy came with those and the restaurants can't do what I want. Now that I know what to expect, I will eat around it. The serving size was enough for 2 meals. The steak & eggs my breakfast buddy ordered was also generous. Usually the steak is less than a centimeter thick and dry. I really enjoyed my time here! A group of four of us came here for brunch on a Saturday. There are two locations and this was the one in Decatur. We chose it because it has a little bit more space and we are very happy with our decision. Please don't come here. If you have any issues waiting, even though the weight wasn't long, it is good to note that they do not take reservations, so just be prepared to wait for 20 minutes or so for a table to clear up, we ordered a bunch of things but I got the breakfast burger which is a double patty with cheese and hashbrowns and eggs. There is no bacon even though it is advertised on the menu with bacon you do have to add that. It was a pretty solid burger in my opinion, and I'm excited to come back here and try something else on the menu!
