    Biscuits and Gravy
    Jacqueline W.

Went around 11:15 , was seated immediately service was quick , no issues. It was a very casual, relaxed atmosphere. We had the fried green tomatoes , a side of bacon and biscuits & gravy. The biscuits & gravy were delicious would definitely order them again. The tomatoes were equally tasty and would also order again. The bacon was good but they only give you one and half pieces of bacon for five dollars, will not order the bacon again. But overall it was a good experience will come back soon !

Veggie platter & kickstart both with flat biscuits

Sadly mediocre at best. We just moved to the area and someone mentioned going here on instagram. No wait on Saturday around 10 am, which was good but also might have indicated that there's a reason there was no wait. The drip coffee is about as good as airplane coffee and I definitely didn't want refills. I got the veggie plate and my husband got the kickstart. The biscuits were super flat and the blueberry jam was so over cooked it was like a thick paste. The other jam option was pineapple jam which should never be a jam option. The fried green tomatoes on the veggie plate were room temperature at best . The syrup for my husband's "side of waffle" was def regular pancake syrup, not maple syrup. Overall middle of the road meal that we won't be trying again. I was so hoping for a better meal.

    Fish and Grits

Fish & grits were amazing. Service was great, very cute and spacious place. Highly recommend.

Nice breakfast spot in downtown Avondale estates. The fish and grits was pretty good overall the batter was a lil on the salty side it overall the dish had good textures and flavors. The waffle was light fluffy and delicious also.

    Spicy Chicken Sammy and Fries

Service was great! My card was accidentally run 2x with the clover app and they made sure not to double charge me. The food was great, nice quantities and several vegetarian options. The restaurant is conveniently located in Avondale estates on 278.

    Shrimp and Grits

Our server was Kyle. I asked for a pineapple mimosa, was brought a peach Bellini and told to just try it... I also ordered the shrimp and grits, I asked for the eggs on the side and when the eggs were in the bowl I asked for it to be sent back and was told that they can't take it back for health reasons because it already came to the table even though I hadn't taken a bite. As someone who works in the food industry the service was disappointing. However the ambience was cute.

    Crispy Breakfast Dumplings

I was heading home and on 285. Did a quick search for a breakfast joint on the Yelp app. This popped up with good reviews. Dang am I glad I found it! It was busy on a Sunday morning. Luckily I snagged a place at the bar. Got a coffee. Ordered the breakfast dumplings and then the hash with some eggs over easy on it. OMG both were amazing! The dumplings had a breakfast like sausage in them with a maple syrup on top. The hash had a ton of meat and cheese. Was super filling. Service was great at the bar. Food was amazing. I highly recommend for breakfast!

    Hashed out

I seem to update my rating every 3 years. Another 5 stars. Service, staff, kitchen, flavors, all outstanding. Everything was perfect. My husband is a creature of habit, he always has the hashed out. I tried the spicy chicken Sammy. It was to die for. Possibly if I was in death row, I would order this as my last meal. Everything was amazing . Their home made hot sauce is superb. The plates are quirky. The decor is really nice, great lighting etc. The cocktail's are way too expensive. I say that as a bartender now owner. $12 for vodka and tomato juice is too much IMO That's my only complaint.

Breakfast Sammy, side of hash browns

Great place for brunch! I love that they serve breakfast and stay open later as we aren't morning people. Simple menu with lots of great options. I got the Chorizo Tacos. The scrambled egg, chorizo, cilantro, and pickled onion was such a delicious combination of flavors. It was very flavorful but didn't feel too rich or too filling. I appreciate that they had simple syrup for my cold brew. My BF got the Breakfast Sammy. He said it was good but hard to eat because the bread fell apart. He got a side of hash browns which he didn't love. We liked the old school country music, and I love the location. It's in the middle of Avondale Estates downtown, 1-2 doors down from Garage Door Studio. Plenty of parking behind the storefronts. It felt like a nice and casual atmosphere with warm ambiance.

    Ice coffee

I recently popped into Rising son for some ice coffee. The environment was very nice and inviting. They were pretty busy but we're still able to assist me. The coffee was amazing! I randomly met this very wise man and we enjoyed a very beautiful conversation. I ended up ordering 2 ice coffee's. Very nice place to eat breakfast as well.

C.B.C.B (minus the bacon, plus fried green tomato)
    Erin S.

We had a group of 4 at 10:30 am on a Sunday. We waited for about 30 minutes for a table. Service was good! Food was okay. Here's what we got: - C.B.C.B ($10): I got it without bacon and added a fried green tomato (and they didn't charge extra, which was nice). I really didn't like the fried green tomato. The seasoning on it was weird. This dish really needed honey or jam or something. The chicken was good. The biscuit was average. - Hashed Out ($12): I was told it was fine, but it didn't come with an egg, which I thought was weird. - Flatbread ($13): I was told it was good. Overall, good prices, but food was pretty average. I don't feel the need to go back.

It's a walk up window spot with the menu and a bell, when you're ready to order, ring the bell. The service is friendly and succinct. Non invasive and just helpful without asking when needed. The seating area is a mix between covered and uncovered, with a small speaker playing contemporary tunes at a respectable level. There are string lights above, and I can only imagine how beautiful this all looks at night. I'd read a LOT about their fish sandwich. That it is a good size helping. That it has a great light fresh vinegar sauce with thinly sliced carrots and other crunchy veg. The fish tasted fresh fried. And I have to say, this is the Best fish sandwich I have ever tasted. I only am upset I hadn't come much sooner. I will have to return, probably on a monthly basis for that fish sandwich. There are enough pictures out there of the sandwich. But I also had the Thai basil lemonade and it was a nice pairing. Not a waste of time, effort or dough. Just go.

We bring friends here, and one friend in particular is so obsessed that he was dreaming of their food when he was on a film shoot out of state, and could not wait to get back. You order at the window, and can take it away or eat outside. The place feels like a party when the weather is good. I don't think it is possible to order badly: the owners keep the menu tight, and everything is SO FRESH. When they run out, that's it. (The curried carrot soup will go fast, I've found.) My husband usually gets the vietnamese fried fish sandwich which is delectable with lots of flavor and texture. We rarely eat meat, but I have made an exception to try the Moroccan lamb burger which was worth it. I usually spring for the upgrade to get crispy smashed potatoes instead of chips. And it's worth noting that the drinks are also well above average: I've enjoyed the indulgence of a Bravassi hard Italian soda with my meal on a lazy afternoon, after shopping at the Second Life thrift store. Their drinks are very good, and they serve them up straightaway to savor while you wait for your order to come up. I have not yet ordered a salad but they have an array of excellent / choices, and I know they will not disappoint. I also want to note that although there is not waiter service (which makes it an ideal spot to meet friends) the staff is friendly, and well above average. It's such a great vibe, and a real bonus of living in the area. They also serve breakfast, and I feel confident in their level of quality in recommending them as a stop for anyone.

The space felt clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The vibe was relaxing, thoughtful, and easy to settle into, which made it a great spot for a solo visit or getting some writing done. It had character and felt inviting, which I always appreciate in a coffee shop. Customer service was friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. My drink was enjoyable and met my expectations. I did not try any food during this visit because I'm currently fasting, but I saw countless people ordering food, and everything I saw looked amazing. I definitely plan to try something from the food menu one day in the future. My only cons are that I wish the space was just a bit bigger since it can get crowded pretty quickly. I also wish they had a larger bar area with plugs for laptops, along with a little more walking space around that section. For someone like me who enjoys writing or working from coffee shops, those small details would make the experience even better. None of this is a deal breaker, though. As far as value, the cost felt fair and pretty standard for a coffee shop. For me, a good coffee shop is not just about the drink -- it's about the atmosphere, comfort, cleanliness, service, and whether I actually feel inspired enough to sit and stay awhile. The Reading Room gave me that. I will definitely return in the future, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, peaceful, and welcoming coffee shop with a great atmosphere.

The building isn't the most welcoming -- it kind of gives "abandoned" vibes from the outside -- but they were open when I finally decided to stop in. The indoor space is small, though there's plenty of outdoor seating. The gentleman behind the register wasn't exactly the friendliest, but he was accommodating and answered my questions about the menu items. We went midday and were pretty hungry, so we ordered a good spread: the Affogato coffee (just okay), and the Golden Drops Sampler ($16) which included two Caribbean empanadas, one coxinha (a Brazilian croquette stuffed with shredded chicken and cream cheese), and one pão de queijo (a chewy Brazilian cheese bread). The coxinha was easily the standout -- flavorful and satisfying. We also tried the Cuban sandwich. It wasn't the best I've had, but it wasn't the worst either; the one in the menu photo definitely looked better than what we received. For almost $50 total, I wouldn't rush back for the food. The coffee seems to be the main draw here, but while mine was decent, it didn't wow me. Overall: mediocre service, mediocre food. I finally gave it a try, and while I wasn't completely disappointed, I probably won't be back.
