A great breakfast spot for everyone - including those of us who eat plant-based, and would prefer not to eat off the side dishes going out to breakfast with friends. In fact, I have ordered the same menu item as my meat loving friend: the curry bowl - I just have the waiter leave the eggs off. The veggie plate is served on an old school cafeteria tray, and has the benefit of including one of their famously good biscuits. I think my hands down favorite is the vegan grit bowl, which serves up flavor rich, fresh vegetables on top of grits. The breakfast satisfies exactly the same way scrambled eggs and bacon do - it's a plate full of filling, warm food that is a joy to eat. I am always a member of the clean plate club, but if I don't finish, I can take it home, and enjoy it later, and it is just as good reheated. A beloved neighborhood spot, so get there early on the weekends, or be prepared to wait. Cute dive restaurant lighting is a little dark.But very much fits the vibe of the place. The service was impeccable very fast, very courteous and very attentive. Went around 11:15 , was seated immediately service was quick , no issues. It was a very casual, relaxed atmosphere.We had the fried green tomatoes , a side of bacon and biscuits & gravy.The biscuits & gravy were delicious would definitely order them again. The tomatoes were equally tasty and would also order again. The bacon was good but they only give you one and half pieces of bacon for five dollars, will not order the bacon again. Sadly mediocre at best. We just moved to the area and someone mentioned going here on instagram. No wait on Saturday around 10 am, which was good but also might have indicated that there's a reason there was no wait. The drip coffee is about as good as airplane coffee and I definitely didn't want refills. I got the veggie plate and my husband got the kickstart. The biscuits were super flat and the blueberry jam was so over cooked it was like a thick paste. The other jam option was pineapple jam which should never be a jam option. The fried green tomatoes on the veggie plate were room temperature at best . The syrup for my husband's "side of waffle" was def regular pancake syrup, not maple syrup. I believe this is my second time coming here. The food quality was not as good this time. I had a breakfast hash and my date had the chicken biscuit. None of it tasted fresh. We had to send back the fried green tomatoes. The service was not horrible but the food just was not as good as I remembered it to be. I also ordered the shrimp and grits, I asked for the eggs on the side and when the eggs were in the bowl I asked for it to be sent back and was told that they can't take it back for health reasons because it already came to the table even though I hadn't taken a bite. I was heading home and on 285. Did a quick search for a breakfast joint on the Yelp app. This popped up with good reviews. Dang am I glad I found it! It was busy on a Sunday morning. Luckily I snagged a place at the bar. Got a coffee. Ordered the breakfast dumplings and then the hash with some eggs over easy on it. OMG both were amazing! The dumplings had a breakfast like sausage in them with a maple syrup on top. The hash had a ton of meat and cheese. Was super filling. Service was great at the bar. Food was amazing. I seem to update my rating every 3 years. Another 5 stars. Service, staff, kitchen, flavors, all outstanding. Everything was perfect. My husband is a creature of habit, he always has the hashed out. I tried the spicy chicken Sammy. It was to die for. Possibly if I was in death row, I would order this as my last meal. Everything was amazing . Their home made hot sauce is superb. The plates are quirky. The decor is really nice, great lighting etc. The cocktail's are way too expensive. Great place for brunch! I love that they serve breakfast and stay open later as we aren't morning people. Simple menu with lots of great options. I got the Chorizo Tacos. The scrambled egg, chorizo, cilantro, and pickled onion was such a delicious combination of flavors. It was very flavorful but didn't feel too rich or too filling. I appreciate that they had simple syrup for my cold brew. My BF got the Breakfast Sammy. He said it was good but hard to eat because the bread fell apart. He got a side of hash browns which he didn't love. We liked the old school country music, and I love the location. It's in the middle of Avondale Estates downtown, 1-2 doors down from Garage Door Studio. Plenty of parking behind the storefronts. We had a group of 4 at 10:30 am on a Sunday. We waited for about 30 minutes for a table. Service was good! Food was okay. Here's what we got: - C.B.C.B ($10): I got it without bacon and added a fried green tomato (and they didn't charge extra, which was nice). I really didn't like the fried green tomato. The seasoning on it was weird. This dish really needed honey or jam or something. The chicken was good. The biscuit was average. - Hashed Out ($12): I was told it was fine, but it didn't come with an egg, which I thought was weird. - Flatbread ($13): I was told it was good. What a hidden gem (at least for a bunch of travelers passing through)! We were looking to get some southern style breakfast and we were overwhelmingly surprised with how amazing this was. We ordered to go, but I'll tell you, the inside was buzzing and still socially distant. Post-COVID, I'd love to dine in here to enjoy the energy. My daughter got a waffle and it was huge and tasted delicious. The jams that came with were fresh and sweet. My wife tried the breakfast dumplings and she said that they were good, but nothing spectacular. I got the shrimp grits and holy moly... what a slam dunk! Great consistency on the grits and the flavors of the shrimp boiled in... I'm drooling just thinking about it. I can't believe I hadn't reviewed this charming breakfast spot years ago. I used to drive by it and thought the name had something to do with either Jesus or a riff on that Earnest Hemmingway novel but it turns out to be just a fun breakfast spot with something for everyone and good vibes all around. There's vegetarian and vegan options, the service is always with a smile, and I've liked everything I've had there. Starts busy, but with the adequate seating at the bar and outside, it rarely affects the experience. The aesthetic is warm and clean, with a few pieces that make the space unique. The drinks are well made, especially my spicy bloody Mary, and the food is a flavor bomb. The breakfast dumplings are a mind f*ck. So delicious, and they were recommended by the owner's daughter. I really want to like this place but it's just not happening. I tried Rising Son again and was pretty disappointed with what I got - Chorizo Tacos. They sounded really good but I felt like they were incredibly stingy with the egg. It like they used 1 egg across 3 tacos! Coming from Texas where breakfast tacos are a big deal, I was nowhere near impressed by these tacos. Some of the edges of my corn tortilla were also hardened and overall it was just not a pleasant meal. I ate half of it and then decided I'd lost my appetite. HEALTH SCORE IS A 73. I went there before being aware of health score. I always order the chicken sandwich with the homemade fries. The fries were always delicious and creamy and the chicken sandwich with the homemade hot and green sauce on that fresh onion roll was out of this world. (Hence the rating) The last time I ordered it didn't taste as fresh and it was extra greasy. So i decided to go inside. It smelled of old shoes and dirty mop water. When i went to the checkout area I saw the health score and my mouth dropped. (73) The sweet lady covered it up and said it wasn't that bad, we got minor points off for the silliest things. I told her I couldn't trust it and immediately cancelled my order and left. After reading their health score report in detail online I almost threw up!!!!!! Went to Rising Son for the first time for Saturday brunch. Went after a long night of celebrating the bday. Glad we finally got to try it! I did not expect the inside to look the way it did. It's very cozy with a nice traditional modern flair? I was in between the biscuits and gravy or the CBCB(fried chicken, bacon, cheese, biscuit). As you can see from my picture I went with the CBCB bc the waitress highly recommended it. I really enjoyed it! It was very filling and the chicken was phenomenal. The only thing it was missing was maybe hot cherry jam? I also ordered a Bloody Maria (huge Bloody Maria fan). I had the chicken and waffles. My companions for the day had the chorizo tacos and the CBCB biscuit. All were excellent. Why a 4 and not a 5? Well seating is limited, although we did get in after a short wait. The prices are not super high, but not cheap either. We ordered the flatbread with egg on the side, breakfast sammy, and the fried green tomato and fruit on the side. Overall, the food was good with decent flavors and taste; the portion size was also good. Thanksgiving holiday means family, football and food. It also means the hosting family often takes visitors out and about before and after the main holiday. Today sadly we were turned away from my breakfast mainstay as they closed early for the holiday. I was luckily able to have a reason to try out Rising Son in Avondale Estates. The exterior was not clearly identifiable as there was a couple seated at the picnic table outside. The interior is very modern industrial with leather to soften the look. It's nice and trendy in a Decatur kind of way. The place wasn't busy as it was late morning but they seemed a little understaffed; no bartender working the bar and the only server looked to be doing quadruple duty- (bartender, hostess, server and bus person). The person who was there was efficient but still could have had least one person as support. After we were sat we were given water, silverware and the menu, and enough space to look over and decide what we would have for breakfast. Honestly I was surprised to find a couple of pork free entrees and chose the frittata, my cousin chose the slammy? (Eggs, bacon, grits with a biscuit). While I enjoyed my meal, I wish there was a toast or biscuit on the side. I was able to sample the biscuit and found it a bit heavy and doughy. Would I go back, yes but I would make sure to get a side item with my main morning entree. I knocked them a star due to the short staffing and portion size. Everything was really good here, I had a chance to enjoy a nice brunch. I wound up getting a their scramble and a chicken and bacon biscuit along with their whiskey coffee drink which was strong. I kind of wish they didn't forget the egg on the biscuit which I think would have made the sandwich pop more and I was little disappointed, but maybe she didn't hear the request however I never got charged for it so it is what it is. While the chicken was crispy it was a little bit dry, however when I lathered it in the gravy sauce, it made it bette. They really have some good biscuits and gravy sauce. More importantly I'm happy nothing was over saturated with salt. In hindsight, I should have asked for syrup because I think that would have been to good to dip in the sandwich. All in all it's a good spot for a good breakfast. They have their own parking lot in back so you're good there. I've been here three times now. This place has never really impressed me. Kinda pricey. Pretty middle of the road to underwhelming. The seats are the ubiquitous steel, industrial type that you would see in a meme from middleclassfancy. So I hope you either have some built in cushion, or you brought one from home. Always friendly service, and clean. I wouldn't choose to eat here again, but I wouldn't refuse to eat here if I was invited. read more

My sister and I tried this place out for brunch after driving past it for years! It didn't disappoint! We started with fried green tomatoes, the dumplings, and a homemade biscuit with peach jam. Everything is amazingly fresh, and I'm pretty sure that was the best biscuit of my life! To wash it all down, we enjoyed a classic french 75, which was also amazing! For the entree, we had the trout and grits with eggs. The trout was so fresh, and perfectly fried. I do not like overly greasy food in my grits, so I was glad this was not the case. The grits were probably in my top 5 for places in ATL. If you are like me, and want spice, they make a homemade hot sauce that has a nice flavor and just enough kick. I thoroughly enjoyed everything. The only thing I would skip next time is the dipping sauce for the dumplings. It is a little too sweet for my taste, but they are so good you don't need the sauce. Really excellent brunch spot in the cute Avondale Estates neighborhood. Wonderful local restaurant with incredible food, friendly staff, and excellent location. My boyfriend and I opted to sit outside, where there is copious amounts of sidewalk seating. We ordered the Hashed Out and the CBCB fried chicken sandwich. Our favorite was by far the Hashed Out. It was made from really finely diced potatos with layers of cheese in between. We had the option to add an egg on top, and we also got the jalapenos on the side as I am a bit of a wimp when it comes to spice. The CBCB was excellent as well, with three huge pieces of fried chicken which each had cheddar cheese melted on top. I do think the sandwich wouldve been brought together with some sort of sauce, like a hot honey or aioli of sorts. It was definitely missing a little something, but overall incredibly delicious. I think the service was fine - there were a few errors with our added on egg and I heard around me that other folks had similar minor issues.
