The tomato bisque came out looking simple and did exactly what it needed to do. Deep tomato energy. Rich without getting heavy. My friends and I reserved a couple tables on Resy.com for the August Uno Tournament. We had a great experience. The staff is so friendly and our server was knowledgeable, organized, and professional. She checked in on us multiple times. The facilitator for the uno game was so energetic and enthusiastic too. We enjoyed playing round after round of uno and even though we didn't win the ultimate prize, we enjoyed ourselves. We ordered flatbreads, charcuterie boards, multiple sandwiches, and lots of drinks. Second visit to this place in Decatur. I think it fits really nice with the whole Decatur vibe, it's beautifully decorated and has a good ambience. In my visits there's always a large crowd, so I ended up sitting outside (one time in summer and now in winter time), that kind of made stay for a short period of time. They have limited seating inside and tables look pretty close to each other, I'm not sure how comfortable this could be if you want to work there. Service is good and their menu is simple but functional. This time I got a Mocha and I was satisfied with the flavors, size and presentation. How have I been sleeping on Decatur?! My girly, Erica E was coworking at The Reading Room and snagged us a good table. She was rolling in with a cart for use at an event later and they were very accommodating. In terms of parking, there's some street parking and lots nearby, and the 'hood is perfect for a short walk up to the coffee shop. The inside is warm and inviting, but they also have an outdoor patio out front for nice weather days. I got a cappuccino and a plain croissant, which the man at the counter warmed up for me. We sat right by the archway of books, and I saw plenty of books on the shelves that seemed ripe for borrowing. Apparently they have plenty of outlets (my computer was fully charged) and they also have their wifi password readily available at the counter, though it wasn't quite working for me, so I used a hotspot from my phone. My 20-something niece put me on to this place and it certainly is the "IT" place! We shared a great lunch and talk while enjoying their peaceful atmosphere and expresso scent. What a cute little gem :) I flew into Atlanta for a conference and had some time to kill before check-in. I asked one of my friends who is local to here for recommendations on a cafe where I could do work. It's a great spot to sit down and grab a bite, and also quiet enough to get some work done with some chill music in the back (keep in mind, I came here on a Thursday morning and stayed until early afternoon). It is a tad busy around lunch time. I couldn't have been happier to spend the day here! This also means a good amount of my money went into trying their drinks and food (happily). I started my morning with a 12 oz latte with oat milk- you can't go wrong with that. For lunch, I got the tomato bisque with the ham & brie sandwich (came with house made chips). I although I felt like it was a tad on the pricier side (I was also pretty hungry), I was very happy with my meal. The tomato bisque is a must! The combo of the tomato with the feta and balsamic glaze on top? What a game changing combination. The sandwich was nice, can taste the flavors, mostly the brie. It was a tad bland but I loved it with the super flavorful chips and soup. Lastly, the fruit tart! I was debating between this and the flower pot (shaped like a flower pot and has chocolate mouse inside a shell of chocolate that I presume is the pot). It was a pretty okay and standard tart- may get the flower pot next time cause it seems new and unique, only a dollar difference. A very cozy spot with a beautiful interior- very comfy chairs. There's enough space to sit if you're visiting with a friend or if you wanna get some work done. Great spot- couldn't be happier to spend a day here :) & consistent with other reviews, they do transform the space into a wine bar by 5 PM- so no laptops past then! I had the amazing opportunity to visit the Reading Room both last Wednesday and tonight during their tarot card reading event. First things first: the vibe. The ambiance is cozy and charming, with beautiful chandeliers and a cute basket arrangement that adds a homey touch. The bathrooms are even cute, which is rare to mention in a review, but it's true! The spot itself has a small front patio with a few tables, making it an intimate, low-key venue--perfect for a date or a pre-dinner cocktail if you're in the area. During both visits, I tried a few delicious pastries: the almond croissant and the cinnamon apple tart. Between the two, the almond croissant was my favorite, but my cousin absolutely loved the cinnamon apple tart. She also indulged in their mudslide cookie both times, which she can't get enough of! The cocktails are fantastic--definitely not skimpy pours. I had the Affogato Espresso Martini with a Luxardo cherry (which was a delicious touch), and also tried the "From Russia with Love," a white Russian that was amazing. My cousin had the Hugo 75 and said it was strong and perfectly made. She also tried the Bulgarian latte, though I don't recall the exact syrup brand. Both of us agreed we'd definitely be back. The Reading Room hosts various events, too. I know they had a talk about menopause, and there was a book signing between my visits. They also do tarot card readings monthly , and there's always something new to check out. For those looking for a fun experience, I highly recommend coming with friends or a date, ordering a cocktail, and just soaking in the vibe. They also have a whiskey or bourbon flight that we plan to try next time. I took photos of the menu because I noticed the one online isn't fully updated. For example, the Cosmo listed online wasn't on the current in-house menu, so be sure to check out my photos if you're curious about what's available right now. In terms of service, the first night we visited was excellent--very attentive and quick, though it was a quieter night with no event. Tonight, with a busier crowd and an event in full swing, it took a bit longer for someone to take our orders, and check back, but the staff was still friendly and accommodating. I think it's fair to expect some slower service during events, but overall, I was happy with the service both times. To sum it up: The Reading Room is a wonderful spot to visit any time of day. It starts as a café in the morning and transitions into a wine and cocktail bar in the evening. They offer a variety of boards--like charcuterie, feta, and dessert boards--throughout the day. I had come in to have a drink and study, but their wifi wasn't working. I went up to ask the barista about it to see if they had changed the password, but she was quite rude to me. She said this happens a lot, but insinuated I should have already known about it, even though there was no sign anywhere. I know things can get busy at a coffee shop, but there were no other customers at the counter. I don't understand why me studying elsewhere was a reason to be so rude, I had tipped her well. Came to the Reading Room on a Sunday afternoon and I actually enjoyed this coffee shop. They did have a DJ this day which I'm not sure if this day & I'm not sure, if this is a common occurrence on a weekly basis. I will say the DJ they did select was phenomenal and very talented. My only piece of feedback is that this brunch spot/coffee shop is a little bit on the smaller side, and the music was extremely loud. So loud to the point where I feel as if I couldn't really enjoy sitting down to drink my coffee with my best friend who was visiting from out of town it was really hard for us to be able to hear each other in our conversation so we ended up leaving shortly after ordering our coffee. I wouldn't use that as a huge stray away from visiting this coffee shop because I do think that it was very clean, had great customer service, had good coffee and Matcha, so this will definitely be a place that I will be revising on the day where they don't have a DJ. This is also to not suggest for them to take away the DJ, but just wanted to throw that out there for folks to keep that in mind if you are visiting this shop to have an engaging conversation with a friend or loved one like I was trying to do. As far as parking, there is street parking and the parking deck that is nearby that you do have to pay for. It wasn't a far walk at all and this coffee shop is also located to a number of other restaurants and places to visit in downtown Decatur. I do believe that the location is perfect. The decor is super cute inside. Staff was friendly in helping me decide what to order. Coffees were no more expensive than any other fancier cafe around Atlanta. I enjoyed my chai latte. They recommended I get that because it comes sweetened whereas the matcha doesn't. There was also a small covered outdoor patio too. On a week day afternoon they were doing a good business of people inside but it also wasnt too crowded. We were able to get a good table without trying. Only downside is that it's in downtown Decatur so you have to pay for parking. I didn't know if I'd find a spot so I went to the lot and paid. I stopped by after a training session and popped in before a very long line developed. I asked the cashier for recommendations and ended up with the sunrise latte. I also tried an almond chocolate croissant for the first time that was to die for. The hint of rose in the coffee turned me off buying the latte again. I spent the night at a nearby hotel for a girls' night during our trip to Atlanta back in December. The morning after, my husband came to pick me up, and since I wasn't quite ready, I asked him to stop by The Reading Room to grab me a latte and a veggie quiche. He returned shortly. He brought back my go-to, an oat milk latte with honey and cinnamon powder. It was great, with a perfect balance of honey and cinnamon. Came here thinking this was a spot to really chill and work until 5 when it turns more into a bar, and unfortunately I was disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it is a nice place, but it is definitely a restaurant and not intended for you to be there for an extended period of time. They even have a little paper popup on the table that request that you limit your time to two hours. Either way, I'm not going to fault them for my misunderstanding based on a Facebook reel. The reason I give this place a 4/5 is just because of the limited seating of the venue. If the place was packed, I just see a bunch of people being annoyed from sitting at the bar getting accidently hit in the back by people walking down the one way aisle to the bathroom or to their seat trying to avoid the people who are in the chairs that are kinda sorta a fourth of the way if not more in the middle of the one person walk way. Beyond that there are positives I assure you. The staff was very welcoming and inviting, very patient for those like myself who had never been before and my girlfriend who is picky about her coffee and wanting to know what this is and what that is. I saw something that I knew and automatically went for it: The Cortado which is simply espresso and milk. The menu says 4-6 oz for $4, but I was not asked how many oz I wanted, or maybe it just depends on what cups they have in stock. It is what it is. It was good. I thought it would taste good with pumpkin seasoning in it, because you know, fall flavors, and it did, but I should have just got it made regularly. I did get it with oat milk instead of regular milk, which I think is probably the one thing that saved it from the taste of the pumpkin spice. To eat I got a bacon and egg biscuit. It was acceptable. Wasn't exactly a fan of the price, $10, which I did not see listed anywhere, but it was my first meal of the day, so I'm not going to complain. I wish I had gotten the cheese Danish that my girlfriend got though, it was on point and tasted sooo good heated up, though she did have to ask them to heat it up a second time, which for some reason seemed to take a while and there were not really a lot of people in there. Lastly, it should go without saying that since it was downtown, there is no public parking, at least none that I saw, but I paid roughly $3 for 1 hour street parking, so, ehh, I didn't feel too hurt. Final verdict: Venue: 3/5 Service: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Overall, nice spot, at least based on the before 5 vibe, because it changes over into more of a wine based venue afterwards, but in terms of the breakfast aesthetics, I would say try it, but I won't be back. read more

I got an iced Hera latte, which despite having a great description, the only flavor note I got from it was sweet. I also got the almond raspberry tart which was just okay, not enough raspberry, again the predominate flavor was just sweet. The staff were polite but despite ordering "to go" my latte was made in a "for here" cup and had to be transferred, I was also given the wrong pastry at first, but I was able to swap it out before I left. Such a cute place! I visited The Reading Room one weekday morning to get some work done and I'm so glad that I did. Located in the buzzing Decatur area, this restaurant is truly in a prime location. With little street parking open on that morning, I ended up parking at a nearby lot and taking a quick stroll through the beautiful neighborhood for my visit. Upon entry, I was blown away by the beautiful interior decor. Such a gorgeous place! There are a few small tables outside on their terrace as well bar-top seating and a few tables indoors. Not a huge place or a place to bring a large group, but I think that's a great thing because it was so peaceful even as folks chattered about. I snagged a table close to the door because I saw an open outlet that my dying macbook desperately needed, but apparently there are plugs under the seats! (I struggled to find mine but I think that was user error lol). Logging onto the wifi was super easy as they clearly display the password at the counter. I did have to leave early because my connection dropped and it would no longer allow me to access it, but beyond that, it was great while it lasted. The team was incredibly helpful and they were moving swiftly through the other customers that were hustling through. I was surprised that there ended up being some small lines building as the afternoon went on, but when you're serving up greatness, that's what happens! I ended up grabbing a latte and an almond croissant that was flaky, toasted and delicious.
