I have been wanting to experience the chef's tasting menu since the creators of Deer and the Dove opened this unique wine bar. I was taken to Italy on a Wednesday night in Decatur..picture perfect lighting, some light rain, jazz playing in the background and an extensive wine menu, I couldn't ask for more. Even the intentional style of the dining tables was very much so elegant and I love the chefs open kitchen bar seating. I wanted the coastal vibes that come with Fawn and the unique spin on seafood dishes flavors. I got what I came for and much more! From the chefs who were so knowledgable and welcoming, to every dish bringing a different party to your palette. My chefs were Chef Kyle and Chef Albert, they both did such a great job at highlighting the ingredients in all nine courses and made me feel amazing, it was my birthday! My favorite course were the oysters with these really delicious and flavorful enoki mushrooms and this very zesty and fruity flavored beet gummy like snack, everything was so innovative and delicious.

The space felt clean, comfortable, and well-kept. The vibe was relaxing, thoughtful, and easy to settle into, which made it a great spot for a solo visit or getting some writing done. It had character and felt inviting, which I always appreciate in a coffee shop. Customer service was friendly and welcoming, which always makes a difference. My drink was enjoyable and met my expectations. I did not try any food during this visit because I'm currently fasting, but I saw countless people ordering food, and everything I saw looked amazing. I definitely plan to try something from the food menu one day in the future. My only cons are that I wish the space was just a bit bigger since it can get crowded pretty quickly. I also wish they had a larger bar area with plugs for laptops, along with a little more walking space around that section. For someone like me who enjoys writing or working from coffee shops, those small details would make the experience even better. None of this is a deal breaker, though. As far as value, the cost felt fair and pretty standard for a coffee shop. For me, a good coffee shop is not just about the drink -- it's about the atmosphere, comfort, cleanliness, service, and whether I actually feel inspired enough to sit and stay awhile. The Reading Room gave me that. I will definitely return in the future, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a clean, peaceful, and welcoming coffee shop with a great atmosphere.

It was a good sized crowd but we didn't have to wait to be seated and the food came at a reasonable pace. I was very pleased. We had the birria empanadas and the queso for starters. We visited after a graduation celebration and were looking forward to a memorable meal. The experience got off to a rough start with hosts who were not particularly warm or welcoming. Once seated, things only went downhill. Our waiter seemed disorganized from the beginning. We ordered appetizers first, but they arrived at different times, and to make matters worse, the graduate in our party received her main entrée at the same time the rest of us were receiving appetizers. I politely explained that it didn't make sense for one guest to be eating her entrée while everyone else was still eating appetizers and waiting for their meals. His response was confusing and didn't really address the issue, so we let it go. Unfortunately, the graduate's steak was served cold. Rather than preparing a fresh one, the restaurant simply took it back and returned it about two minutes later. It appeared to be the exact same steak based on how we had left it when it was sent back, and while I'm not sure whether restaurants typically reheat food or prepare a new dish altogether, this one was reheated. To make matters worse, the graduate ended up with a stomachache after eating it. As we continued waiting, our entrées never arrived. The waiter was polite but extremely inattentive. We repeatedly had to flag him down because he rarely checked on our table. After a VERY long wait, I asked about the rest of our meals. At that point, he admitted that he had forgotten to place our entree orders altogether. He then had to take all of our orders again and submit them to the kitchen. By the time our food finally arrived, we were no longer hungry and were extremely frustrated, despite remaining patient and courteous throughout the entire experience. The entrées were decent, but nothing exceptional, especially considering the extremely excessive wait and service issues. The waiter did bring a small dessert for the graduate, which was a nice touch, but it felt more like a complimentary gesture because he had forgotten our entrées than a genuine celebration of the occasion, especially given how disastrous the overall experience had been. What should have been a joyful graduation celebration turned into an exhausting and disappointing dining experience. While the waiter was polite, the service was slow, disorganized, and lacking attention to detail. Overall, this was a poor first experience and not one I would be eager to repeat.

Without asking, the tatted up dude bartender (I'm horrible with names) went and asked if he could pop open another option. Owners agreed and boom, we were tasting this glorious option. Wifey loved it. My choice of drink at a wine bar was an old fashion. The other bartender (super chill chica) whipped up a great citrus tasting version. Loved it. Loved the design of this place. Super cool use of mirrors to make it feel more grand than the size (which was already very open). Very cool overall feel here. I can't say enough about the people and drink choices. Already planning on a round two soon.

We started with a lovely cheese board for the table, which was delicious and fresh. Paired with that we of course split a bottle of wine at the recommendation of the staff - we absolutely loved the pick! For the main I had the gnocchi, which was absolutely fantastic. I was so full but managed to scrape down the whole thing because of how light the gnocchi was and how delicious the sauce was. All 3 of us agreed this is the kind of place we want to come back over and over so we can try everything! 10/10 from me! Just note, parking wise, there's a tiny tiny lot, but I street parked around the corner. This area is notoriously a little harder for parking so just give yourself some extra time!

The ambiance is classy while not being stuffy, with business casual dress code. All of the staff were welcoming and kind to us, from the hostess to our waitress to the food runners. We shared several tapas: paella verduras, Pulpo parrilla (grilled octopus), Pan con tomate, empanadas with beef, Calamares fritos (calamari) , Espárragos (asparagus), and Patatas bravas. Everything was absolutely delicious! One of my favorite items of the night was the bread with tomato (pan con tomate)! The bread was toasted perfectly and came with garlic and grated tomato to spread on it, along with a sprinkling of greens. My typical favorite at Spanish restaurants (patatas bravas) was done very well here too, with the right crunch and tasty sauces. The perfectly tender octopus came with a side of beans that I wished to ask for the recipe for because they were seasoned so nicely! The calamari was breaded lightly which allowed the natural flavors to shine. The beef empanadas were juicy and crisp. The asparagus was cooked to perfection. The vegetable paella was also filling and wonderful! We ended our meal with the toffee butter cake which was an absolute dream. We look forward to coming back for more!
