Made reservations for my wife's birthday since they were hosting an early listening of the new Billy Strings party. Got the reservation confirmation and then confirmed via the automated system prior to the event. When we arrived we were informed that they recently changed their reservation system and did not have space for us. They offered we could either come back much later that night, stand in the corner hoping someone left, or try to squeeze in somewhere amongst the currently seated guests. Now we understand that mistakes happen. But just maybe if you have two concurrent reservation systems and a booked out event you might check them to see if there's any overlap. Then you could reach out to people beforehand so they can make alternate arrangements ahead of time. What you don't want is for them to show up and then be told to stand in the corner. We appreciated the offer for some champagne but lets be honest we would have rather just gotten notice a few hours before so we didn't have to stand outside trying to figure out what to do instead. We have been before and had an OK time but can't imagine we would risk going back after that. There's too many places to hear good music and drink good wine in the area these days. read more

The jazz playlist was so relaxing to start and then a DJ came in to spin vinyl soul records and she was incredible! The mushroom was toast was good but definitely order more than 1 as it is a bit small for sharing. Everytime I'm in town I have to visit - it's a cozy dim lit spot with plenty of charm - you actually feel like you're at a friends house enjoying a kickback - the music choices are always a vibe - the DJ displays the record being played and the music isn't so loud that you can't have a conversation. I will be back! First time trying commune on a double date Saturday night. Definitely make a reservation. Tables are small, bar seating is limited. A few people walked in but just depends on how fast seats are turning. This restaurant, wine bar, and listening lounge is such a cozy vibe. No windows, velvet booths, you get the deal. The food menu rotates weekly and wine is seasonal. We had a fabulous time. Enjoyed the bread, toasted pecans, chicken, Brussels salad, fried eggplant!!! So good, and more. Super cute little wine bar. We came around 6pm Friday and the place was pretty empty but they had a lot of reservations starting around 7. Luckily we weren't planning to stay long. We only got 1 glass of wine. Low lighting and vinyl records playing. A perfect intimate date night spot. They have a small food menu as well. Check out their website to see the style of music they'll have that night. It seems like it's mostly old or alternative style music. The only thing "inaccurate" about my previous review is that this place does not serve cocktails, so I can admit that was an error on my part. However, this again reinforces my point that the bartenders and servers should have been more efficient at serving glasses of wine in a timely manner. As someone who has been to various spots that fall in the low, mid, or high end categories all over the world, I still maintain that the pours were below the standard pours served at most restaurants and bars, specifically in and around Atlanta and were severely overpriced. The service was also again subpar and I'm sure all parties can be content in knowing that I will not be returning and do not recommend this spot. read more

I feel lucky that I got to come here. I met some cool locals at "Ranger Station" the night before and they had a reservation here which they invited me to. This is a very hip and intimate space. The drinks mainly consist of wine but they have a very nice curated selection of beer as well. The wines are also not hideously overpriced, as the often are at places like this. I really appreciated the wide variety of sparkling options they had (I'm super into bubbles, what can I say) I didn't have any of the food but it look delicious, if a bit small-portioned. read more

I've worked in the restaurant industry, and it's made me a patient patron over the years. I have empathy for servers and the work they do. We're always polite, and we always tip well. Any other behavior towards restaurant staff is unthinkable. They're servers, not servants. I can also tell when an establishment has a condescending and apathetic disdain for people that don't fit into their ideal customer mold, whatever that is. I made reservations for my wife and I at Commune this past Saturday night at 8pm. I thought it looked like a cool concept and the pictures were stunning. We arrived on time and were seated at a cozy corner table by the hostess. Good music, comfy seating, and low lighting. We were ready for a good night. The place was maybe 2/3 full and not hectic. Once we got settled it's like a wall materialized around us. The server, a young woman in tan overalls, looked at us and kept walking. No nod, no hello, no nothing. The server, the hostess, and even the bartender all walked back and forth in front of us constantly and other than an occasional side-eye it was like we didn't exist. There's an Anthony Bourdain quote that says (roughly), "If you're treated like garbage in the first few minutes, it's a preview of what you're in for regarding your dining experience". My wife and I knew something was off but we decided to give it a moment. Keep in mind that this place is tiny. There's no way the server didn't see us. After 15 minutes of zero acknowledgment, my wife and I agreed we'd give the server one more shot. If she came over to us, we'd stay. If she ignored us, we'd leave. She walked by our table staring straight ahead for the sixth time, and that was it. We got up quietly and left. In hindsight, I didn't see anyone with actual food in front of them. The women at the table next to us only had water glasses. In fact, the only people I saw with drinks in hand were an Instagram Posse at the bar. They were taking pictures of themselves and having a ball. Commune is all style, zero substance. If you're charging $18 for a glass of wine you should at least fake a smile and take down an order. Not only are we never going back, we're telling our friends to avoid it as well. This place is a joke. read more

I've been here three times. Interesting concept for a wine and listening bar, but execution needs improvement. Wine selection is mediocre at best. Eclectic collection, but uneven. Bartenders not knowledgeable enough to discuss the wines or make recommendations. The food was excellent the first time. Second time was like a completely different restaurant- less than mediocre. Third time I ordered only wine. Bartenders fumbled over the wine selection as they huddled behind the bar with servers, chit chatting, rather than paying attention to and creating a welcoming space and atmosphere for customers. In general there may be good DJs and selectors but in general it's inconsistent. Could benefit from better direction. read more

For the first time in my life I left a restaurant this evening without tasting the food I ordered. Came in for Allen Suh's pop up super excited to check out commune's listening bar/wine bar concept. My husband and I had a reservation for 7:30 and were seated as soon as we came in. 15 minutes later the server came by for the first time to ask if we wanted to order drinks. We put in our food and drink orders at the same time, and ordered most of Allen's pop up menu - which looked great! We had both finished our drinks before any food came. We flagged down our server and put in a second round. At this point we'd been waiting about half an hour. Time ticked by with no one coming to apologize for the wait or check in. At 8:45 (now more than an hour since we'd arrived) I flagged a server down and asked if the kitchen was behind. She said "yes extremely" - I told her we'd like to cancel our food and go. No apology, no offer to comp a round of our drinks, just "ok let me see if I can get your check". Really sad to say this was one of the worst nights out I've experienced in Atlanta or any other city. Don't waste the trip! On a final note - music was fantastic. DJ spun interesting tracks throughout our visit. Would check him out anywhere else in town. read more

The vibes were very cool at this spot. We came for some post dinner drinks and appreciated the DJ on the 1's and 2's. We didn't have any of the food. The wine glasses ranged from $10-18 that we had. The chief complaint is that there isn't a balanced sound system. There's a large speaker in the corner, and if you are sitting near it, your ears are gonna get blown out. Records are mastered in different ways, so one minute it's really loud and then the next song an abrasive horn is threatening hearing loss. There were a few songs that were painfully loud. My guests were screaming and still couldn't hear each other. We asked the server if they could turn it down a smidge and she definitely had a "tone" when she said they couldn't lower it. Be mindful of the body language of guests near the speaker and adjust the volume accordingly to each record. Also of note was a 5% "Selector" fee on the whole bill, which was a surprise. Google did not know what this fee is. From a prior review it sounds like this was to pay the DJ, which is lovely if you are upfront about it. A little odd that it's not a flat per person fee. The more you consume, the more you pay for the DJ? Anyway, I'd return if I could sit on the opposite wall of the speaker. read more

Headlines: Pros: Great music Cons: $10 Cover and lighting too bright We were excited to check out Commune, as we live close by and both love wine and vinyl. Seemed like a can't miss combination. First miss was the $10 cover. We thought about walking out but decided to eat it. This is immediately a deal breaker for future visits. We're ok paying for a curated glass of wine but not if we have to pay $20 before we order. There's just too many options in this town to start charging $20 to sit in a room with a DJ. Also the pours were on the small side, especially for wines per glass north of $20! (note there are less expensive options, but still). The wine selections were thoughtful but it was nothing you can't get at other spots around town or most wine stores. We were there at 10pm and the lighting was too bright and the color temperature too cool for a place trying to be a listening room. The lights scheme just don't match the mood the place seems to be going for. On the positive side, the music was great. The DJ was spinning some killer crate dug latin tracks from 45s and the audio was excellent. Unfortunately, despite the music, there's just not enough to bring us back. The cover, brighter than necessary lighting and small pours are just too much to take. I hope that ownership takes note as the listening room concept is great but some tweaks are needed if Commune is going to make it. read more

welp, im never coming here again. we had reservations for valentines day and showed up early super excited to finally check the place out. the moment we walked in though, the waitress we had gave us a strange attitude right away (she was wearing a red getup but never got her name). we tried to shrug it off to a bad day though, and i asked her when the band would start, to which she responded "you've got 2 hours before we need to flip the table". incredibly strange thing to say to paying customers who came to enjoy live music. once we ordered, she came over what felt like every 10 minutes, asking if we wanted more food or drinks, clearly trying to rush us or push more sales. this wasn't attentiveness or care, it was intrusive and honestly started to feel like harassment after about attempt #4. i counted 10 total visits to our table in under 2 hours. for a place that's supposed to be abut relaxing and listening to great audio, it felt completely at odds with the supposed concept. on top of all that, we were charged a cover fee that was never mentioned, which was a surprising spit in the face after the service we received. they also tried charging us both twice for the cover charge, making the bill nearly $50 over what it should have been before we caught the error. the final cherry on top was me trying to record the band (which was awesome btw), and the waitress kept leaning over our table in front of the shot, almost like it was intentional. the whole atmosphere was tense and the service was incredibly pushy and disrespectful. it felt really shady, i don't really understand the point of a listening bar that rushes you out before the music even starts. definitely would not recommend anyone come here until they get their employees in better shape to properly do their job. read more
