Dad's is a popular bar in Virginia Highlands. It's listed as a cocktail bar on Google but i wouldn't consider it one, even though they have cocktails. It's more of a regular bar that has a variety of cocktails, beers, and I think wines too. We went on a Friday night and it was packed the entire night. Perhaps it had more of a cocktail bar vibe during the week when it's less crowded. It had a mix of crowds from college grad-looking aged students to people in their 40s. The two cocktails I got were good - the mezcal one and the ATL mule, but my friends got a Mai Tai and Paloma and both were really bad. The Mai Tai tasted like straight up concentrated lime juice. No one could drink it. And the Paloma also had a really strange taste to it. read more

I absolutely love how you can get a nice cocktail in the heart of virginia highland before dinner or something else! The drinks are more upscale than just a beer, so its perfect for a more elevated night. If you go on the earlier side, you can just walk in, but if it's later there might be a line. read more

So Dad's is kind of a dive bar situation. If you think about what a dive bar could be. It's not trendy and it's not fancy and it's not flashy, but on the right night it could be pretty cool. If you're into the type of crowd that it draws and attracts. So there is a small parking lot and then there is street parking. So don't expect to have a private lot that can fit 30 or 40 cars. It's at the corner of a neighborhood residential area so you may have to see if you can do something along the residential area for parking.. But there's places all over but you may not want to rush to that because some people don't like you parking in their lot for other establishments. So you're coming the door in theirs. Kind of security, but nothing major. There's a little living room area there, it's made for aesthetics. Has a couch there and a couple of seats, but when you go and cross that threshold you'll be in the area to where the bar is. Now. The bar is kind of a u-shaped bar and there's chairs all around it. On a really active night, you may have to wait a while so just keep that in mind. But the bar area, that's where a lot of the magic happens if you trying to get a drink. There's also an outside area so keep in mind that if you have too long of a wait in one spot you can go outside and try the other as well. They have a menu out there for drinks and it was a lot quicker. Outside. They have the heating lamps so on a cool night you can still sit outside and be okay. But you are losing a lot of the TV and the music if you are outside so you have to cut weigh that cost. I got a couple of drinks inside and a couple of drinks outside. The last time I went. The inside is decorated and filled with a lot of movie memorabilia. It's dated, so if you were born in the 2000s you may not appreciate it LOL. But it's really cool to see. I got a tequila old fashioned and a Manhattan, nothing major, was pretty decent. Nothing flashy. They have sandwiches, so it's always my goal to try to grab a sandwich or two. But I always end up drinking and that will be the end of it LOL. It's on my list of things to do though! If you want premium and premier customer service, this may not be for you because it's not that type of establishment. There are a lot of college kids here and that's kind of the vibe that you're getting when you go. You don't have to be flashy and dress up or anything along those lines, this is not that kind of place. Again, is a dive bar kind of vibe. It's dark and there aren't fancy decorations all the way around, but if you're just trying to go and have some beers, this may be a spot for you. read more

My friends and I came here on a Saturday night to join their relatively long line at their front door. With about 15-20 people in front, it took around 20 minutes until it was our turn to enter. There are two full bars, one inside and the other outside. The bartenders were putting in work and crafting some unexpectedly better drinks than I would have thought! I got their French 75 which I had never had but will definitely look for it more in the future. It was a very youthful environment with loud music and even louder conversations. Overall, it was a good experience and I would come again for the ambiance and drinks. Parking wasn't impossible since there are lots of neighborhood streets to park in. read more

Casual bar that pays homage to the '80s and '90s. They project old movies on the walls and they have lots of pictures of well-known TV dads from our childhood all around. I sat at the bar and ordered a French 75 and an Espresso Martini and asked them to add some Kahlúa to the latter. The French 75 was poorly executed (too much lemon juice made it too tart and they put the Prosecco in the bottom of the glass first which makes all the bubbles flat), but the Espresso Martini was delicious! I also ordered the White Castle Burgers to eat, which were four burger sliders with cheese, caramelized onions, and a pickle, and those were delicious and they came with a side of waffle fries. Came because this place was reccomended to me by a bartender in nyc. This place has been around for years but I hadn't heard of it prior. I arrived on a Friday evening. Wow, what a 1/5 star experience! 1 vodka drink and an overbearing bartender named Katie later, and we were "cutoff". An off duty and sober Atlanta PD Officer in our group too...very odd. When looking for insight as to why we were cutoff, a very clueless and nervous bar-back named Josiah offered quite literally 0 help. Hiring a competent and confident staff would be a large plus for this establishment. It was quite a mess and mediocre experience had by all members of our group. Something all patrons of Yelp looking for a fun Atlanta experience should be well aware of. I think a better understanding of the late 20's/early 30's patrons should be in the works for the executive leadership team at Dad's, Virginia Highlands. Cheers (or not?) read more

Long the epicenter of questionable college bars or staid restaurants that lean on the quiet side, Dad's is exactly what VA Highland has needed for years, and is a godsend for local cocktail heads looking for a good drink. Featuring a classic cocktail menu, a delectable small menu of homey bites, and 80's sitcom-inspired decor, Dad's always stays fun, never leans cheesy, and continues to kill it time and time again. On our first visit, we stopped in for drinks and a light dinner on a Saturday evening. Upon walking in, the theme is apparent- so much plaid, overstuffed furniture, and framed movie memorabilia, it looks like a studio set. The menu, featuring an array of classic drinks and elevated bar food, also follows the theme. After watching our cocktails being made with the utmost care at the bar, we settled in on the fun, astroturfed covered patio with two of the best and most potent dirty martinis in town. We followed that up with a beer, served in a frosty stein, for her and a bright and kitschy appletini for me. For snacks, we shared some of the most delicious battered waffle fries, a fresh and crisp classic Caesar, and an order of their impossibly fun and decadent French toast sticks. We have returned numerous times, and have been impressed by their other offerings, with cherry cola Manhattan and their Mai Tai, served in ceramic tiki glasses, being particular standouts. The girl with the nose ring and black hair that came in on 2-17-24 at 9:15-920 legit body slammed me and three of my friends spilling their drinks. Ruining clothes and makeup told us that it was our fault and said if you didn't want to get hit get out of the way. Appaled that someone could act this way. She then later sent someone to clean it up and could be seen laughing from the kitchen pointing at us. read more

Very cool place, but disappointed that it's one of the only restaurants in Virginia Highlands with a patio that doesn't allow dogs (I don't know of any other but please let me know if I'm wrong). Don't know how well it fits in with the rest of the community. read more
