I've been to speakeasy's out in California, Bay Area, but this one had a whole secret refrigerator door looking entrance! Inside I tired to videotape, but it was so dark, and I had my camera light off, but it was a cool, vibe with great music and a chill relaxing atmosphere! The food was decent and the drinks were like pieces of artwork! Our server was very helpful with my food allergies to pork and MSG and I could eat the salmon nachos and the shrimp Mac n cheese! Our cocktails were pornstar bubbly something and it was perfectly mixed with Lilikoi and had that fresh sour punch! I love it! I've been here a few times before and always enjoyed it, but this last visit felt a little off. The music was very loud, to the point where we were basically yelling just to talk, which kind of took away from the experience. The drinks were okay at first, nothing crazy. One thing I will say though, the bartender came by to get feedback and actually adjusted my drink on the spot. I didn't like the espresso martini at all at first but after I said what was off, they knew exactly what to add and it ended up much better. The speakeasy vibe I remember also wasn't really there this time. The front felt a bit disorganized, and combined with the loud music, it just didn't have that same intimate, polished feel. My husband and I decided to stop by the James Room on a Wednesday night after his birthday dinner, based on a friend's recommendation that it was a great spot for drinks, a chill vibe, and good music. We arrived around 11:45 PM, and as soon as my husband reached for the door, the hostess put up a "section closed" sign and bluntly told us they had already done last call, were full, and were closing soon. To our surprise, a patron inside even mouthed to us, "she's lying, they're not full." I understand that we arrived late and that space may have been limited, but the way this situation was handled was completely unnecessary. A simple, polite heads-up like, "We're about to close, so it may be tight inside," or "Y'all will be the last patrons admitted" would have been fine. Instead, we were met with rudeness and zero courtesy. After that experience, my husband said he wasn't going to beg anyone to take his money, and we left -- and we won't be returning. read more

The James Room is hidden behind a café that is open during the day and at night you're surprised with a really cool intimate spot that has a DJ spinning r&b at the ideal volume. Their selections change seasonally, and I was excited to try one of their newest cocktails. The menu is categorized by drink type (signature, trademark, etc.) and I excitedly tried a cocktail suggested by the amazing and attentive bartender, Raul. I'm so glad that I heeded his suggestion and tried the Lemon Meringue Pie cocktail because it was balanced and great for a dessert cocktail. The passionfruit meringue on top was sheer perfection. Stopped by after a concert at the tabernacle on a Friday night. My friend and I were having a girl's night and celebrating her birthday a little early. We sat at the bar with no wait. However, it was a little delay with it being made. She personally came out and apologized for the delay and offered me some wings while I wait. The wings were bomb and so was the Mac and cheese. St James has always been THAT sexy spot. Came here on a Thursday night and there was live music! A DJ who was backed up by person playing a keytar. It was a very eclectic experience. My friend and I stopped in for a drink and to chill. I got the peach cobbler, which was delish. My friend got an old fashion which was not made to her standard. But they remedied that for her. I've been to the James Room a couple of times. I will say the general ambiance/vibe is very nice and upscale. It's cool that the speakeasy is hidden inside of a bakery and it's off the belt line which is nice so that you can hop around easily to other restaurants/bars. I would say the most important thing about a speakeasy is the drinks and the drinks here are AWFUL. They charge a pretty penny for drinks (also think they have auto gratuity?) and do not taste good AT ALL . I've tried at least 3 drinks off of their menu and they all miss the mark. Service can be slow on busy nights but the times I went was ok. Overall cute place with a cute vibe but it's kinda pointless to go in my opinion since the drinks are bad read more

Upon entry I was bit taken back at the lack of customer service from the host and security. We almost turned around, however once inside the vibes were nice. Great spot for a date or business meeting. We had a 5 pm Friday reservation, but they don't open until 6. So, the business needs to immediately resolve that hiccup. This gave us time to walk around Krog Market. The vibe behind the door reveals a swanky atmosphere that resembles a basement. The dimly lit room has a bar, couch seating, and other seat options. We opted for the couch area. The menu offers small bites. We tried the BBQ wings. The portion size was small. The sauce was amazing! However, it was such an insult to waste such an amazing BBQ sauce on those tiny wings! I've never seen such small wings--work in that. Paid parking is available in the garage. The manager, Johnathan, was quite pushy and unprofessional with his remarks regarding our drink preferences. He assumed our party wasn't interested in their unique drink choices because we ordered margaritas to start our night. First of all, this place is VIBEYYYYY. Okay? It's giving MOODY, it's giving Sexy, it's giving Swanky. 10/10 ambiance. Service is a bit slow (understandable on a packed night) but the workers are very friendly. (We couldn't figure out how to FIND the restaurant after we parked and when we called, the lady on the phone was so polite and helped direct us to their location!) So why -1 point? A few things, 1. When you're placed at a side table there is literally NO room (sitting or standing) when the other tables are filled too. since it's stool style seating your occasionally going to end up bumping/back to back with the person sitting at the table behind you simply by moving around a bit in your seat. Thankfully no one seems to mind because we're all having a good time. Also the walkways are VERY narrow around the sides (screams fire hazard whew) This was a networking mixer so anyone who walked up to our table to chat had to constantly move side to side/squeeze up against our table because the walkway was just so narrow they nearly blocked the entire path (including servers trying to deliver drinks and other people trying to get by) just by standing near our table. Also..... 2. my friend was having a dry January and ordered the "Designated driver" MOCKtail which is essentially a fancy juice. It was only $3 less than actual Cocktails with like multiple liquors and when they brought it, they only filled her glass HALFWAY and with so much ice (check photo) after about 2-3 sips her drink was gone. Legit seemed like she had less "juice" in her glass, than I had in my alcoholic one. Which seems odd.. like there's no liquor in there, so why skimp on the cup of juice? They were both visually very pretty, but for a mocktail, they sure gave her cocktail portions. Other than that we had a great time! We had a 7:15 booking (booked days prior) and I received a message at 6:21 and a phone call at 6:19 that they needed to push us back to 9PM because they had a private event and the space was bought out... We were already on the way. Emerald had a horrible attitude with me on the phone when I called back at 6:44. When I asked why I wasn't notified earlier, Emerald insisted she messaged me in advance (20 minutes before.....okay) and said "well do you want me to cancel it or do you want to push it back because those are your options". We have been looking forward to coming here for so long and I am INCREDIBLY disappointed with the experience. Thankfully we got a table at Delbar and the night there was incredible. Hopefully restaurant leadership can guide Emerald on how to handle challenging situations more professionally. read more

The James room 3/10. The James room needs serious improvement. A group of girlfriends and I linked up on a Wednesday night to celebrate. While the establishment has a very dark and clean aesthetic the cracks began to show as the night progressed. Our server Ray was very kind and polite and for being new to the establishment he still took care of us, it was clear he was handling multiples tables and their various needs. Yet drink service was extremely slow from the bar. It was also half empty inside. On a Wednesday night they might as well have never passed out a menu if half of the options are not available I.e Wings/Salmon/Collard greens. (Our server explained the truck comes the next day but the menu options are already limited and the current menu is not exactly what is advertised on the website) We didn't have silverware when the food came out and had to ask. Our table basically was falling apart at the bone, it rocked and tilted with an every slight movement. Ray attempted to fix the table but it honestly needs to be removed from the floor before it drops. My friends silverware (that we already had to ask for) had a crumb fall out the napkin and even had food stuck to the back of it. Tonight's visit was a flop and frankly unimpressive. It's basically false advertisement to offer an "elegant and alluring" -quoted directly from the menu- experience and not get that. Once again Ray was fantastic and he would be the ONLY reason why I would consider returning because clearly there is no managerial oversight. read more

If I could give The James Room zero stars, I would. This place is an absolute disaster--poorly managed, and shockingly bad at hospitality for a so-called "cocktail lounge." Let's start with the drinks. They charge premium prices for cocktails that are mediocre at best. Service is equally abysmal. Nothing prepared me for the unprofessional nightmare that is Cortney, the so-called Head of Operations. She was conducting a job interview (yes, at 10 PM in the middle of the loud waiting area), and when I politely tried to make conversation, she was unbelievably rude to me. How was I supposed to know I had walked into her bizarre, makeshift hiring process? If this is how she treats potential hires--and guests--imagine how she runs the rest of the business. I flat-out told the young woman interviewing that I'd never work for someone that nasty, because rudeness like that is a reflection of leadership, not an accident. As if that wasn't enough, the bouncer--who loudly boasts his pro-MAGA views as if anyone asked--decided to get in on the hostility, rudely telling me to leave (which I happily did, because why would I spend another second or dollar there?). But then he had the audacity to tell me I couldn't stand on the public sidewalk about 20 feet away. Newsflash: The James Room and Juxtapose Hospitality do not own the sidewalk--and their tasteless, Trump-loving bouncer in an ill-fitting blazer doesn't have the legal authority to remove people from it. In short: This place is run by horrible people with zero hospitality skills, the service is terrible, and the drinks aren't worth the price. This speakeasy is beyond vibes with live music, food, cocktails, a great Dj, and dancing! Even before we decided to choose this spot for our nightcap, I called the hostess who explained the live music start time and gave us a run down of the menu! 5 star service before we even got there! We ordered the lemon pepper wings because why not??? And you don't want to pass these wings up! I promise they are some of the best I've ever had! There were several couples that looked like it was date night and a few tables which looked like there were just friends gathering after work. Nice vibe, cocktails reasonably priced. We got there not too long after opening but I heard the later it gets into the evening the more packed it is. There is a pay parking lot close by if you decide to drive and not Uber. read more

This is the cutest coffee shop located on the beltline. They have really comfortable outdoor seating, so it's the perfect place to grab a coffee with your pup It's really cute inside too, and they have really delicious looking treats that we didn't try, but I really wanted to. All of our drinks were really good, except I got an iced drink, and the lid didn't really fit so I kept spilling it, which was annoying.
