Had a great first experience at MidCity. What immediately stood out was the cocktail program's focus on clarified drinks -- not something you see executed at this level very often. The amount of prep, technique, and patience required for clarified cocktails definitely isn't lost on me, so I naturally gravitated toward those options. MidCity clearly puts serious effort into the details and the server was well-equipped to discuss and help guide me to the right decisions. I tried the Peanut+Butter, Mangorita, and Pear Matcha Fizz. The Mangorita was the standout for me. The rum brought a deep, complex backbone while the mango rounded everything out with just the right sweetness. Super balanced, layered, and honestly just delicious. The Peanut+Butter reminded me a bit of a Boulevardier variation, with the Cynar adding that earthy, slightly bitter edge that kept it from leaning too sweet. Really interesting drink with a lot going on. The Pear Matcha Fizz was refreshing and easy to drink -- definitely tasty -- but felt a little less complex and developed compared to the other two cocktails I had. Overall, very impressed. Creative menu, thoughtful execution, and a clear respect for craft cocktails. Already planning to go back tonight to work through more of the menu. Additionally, we spoke to the bartender a bit and were impressed with her depth of knowledge as it relates to mixology. I found Midcity Cafe from a Google search of bars near my hotel. I was pleased to find that it was literally right next to the Renaissance. Midcity was a pretty cool bar. The place was small but that just attributed to its intimacy. The interior gave me a Latin vibe. There wasn't a DJ at the time, but I suspect that they have resident DJs during the week. Customer service was fine. There was one bartender at the time, but I didn't talk to him really. There were two other female non-bartender servers behind the bar who took my drink orders and relayed them to the main bartender. Just thought that was an unusual interaction. Nonetheless, the bartender made my drinks quickly. I ordered a couple of cocktails. The quality of the cocktails were amazing. I got the Panorama Garden and Moonbow, which were both gin-based drinks, and I was highly satisfied with both. read more

When I say this is the most fun bar I have been to I mean it! It's kind of dark and sexy inside and the drinks are crafted to perfection. I wanted to try every single one if I could. It gets busy at night but surprisingly the bartenders were quick! They play house music on the weekend not sure about weekdays and there is only one bathroom which is unfortunate. Great music and vibe but bartenders have the worst attitudes. Especially Gabriel and Amanda. I live in the neighborhood and frequent often. I always see the bartender Amanda giving attractive girls the hardest time. She rolls her eyes, makes smart comments and is plain out rude and nasty. Gabriel is also a jerk to guests. What an awesome space! We stopped in on a Thursday night and had a fabulous time. The bar was nearly empty when we got there, but it didn't take long for it to fill up. They also had a DJ starting at 9 pm that played great house music - not normally my favorite genre, but this was really chill and fit the vibe of the bar perfectly. The drinks were fantastic - I tried two of the mezcal drinks, El Cuyo and Cielo, and my husband had The Traveler and the Oaxacan Negroni. All of them were well balanced, delicious cocktails.
