The wine selection here is small, but the prices are reasonable and the service is great. They also have some cheese options. The place is beautifully decorated with nice chairs to sit and lounge. A lovely black-owned wine shop in the heart of Decatur! Location and Parking Located in Avondale Estates, parking is located in a small lot to the left of the building. The signage is not easy to see at night, but we made it. Venue and Atmosphere Stepping in to a front desk and a lounge are to the right, you will feel right at home, ready to cozy up and drink wine. Featuring plush velvet couches, stylish accent chairs, and a family style dining room, it feels like you're gathering over wine in your girlfriend's living room rather than a sterile wine shop. Service The owner Steffani warmly greeted us, welcomed us in, and offered us seats. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. They could make anyone from a beginner to a wine connoisseur feel comfortable. Food and Beverages I attended the Friendsgiving event where we tasted 6 wines and had charcuterie as well. While all of the wine wasn't exactly my taste, I could tell that it was well made. The cheese plate complimented the beverages nicely, and the host gave suggestions for pairings of thanksgiving side dishes (how appropriate!). I purchased a bottle of Rose and a bottle of semi-sweet red; I'm very happy with my purchases. Most of the wine is in the $30-$50 range, but they do have a $14.99 rack as well. One of my favorite wine spots in the Atlanta area. They have a great selection of wines and cheeses. The music is great and the vibe is very chill and mellow. I love the flight offerings for the tastings and the staff is knowledgeable and guides you to tasty choices. Most of all it's black-owned and the owner and staff are amazing! Check them out they always have some sort of event that's going on on Fridays and Saturdays and it's a great place to meet new faces new people with positive influence. Everyone there was joyous and the person working picked wines based on our preferences that we each found amazing--we don't all agree on what we think is delicious, but we could all agree that what she served was :) We bought some nice bottles based on our tasting that were all decently priced. Kicked off my friend's birthday with a wine tasting at Purple Corkscrew this past Saturday afternoon. The place is a bit unassuming from the outside, but the inside is cute and cozy. When you walk in, you're greeted at a small counter and led back into a large, well-decorated room with a couple intimate seating areas. On your right is a large display case with all the wines for purchase (most were in the $30-$50 range, with some unique options). On the far back wall is a small bar, which is where the wines that you can taste are displayed. There also appeared to be a few other rooms with tables for larger parties, but we opted to stay in the main tasting room. Tastings are $15 for three 2-oz pours (I would have preferred six 1-oz pours for more variety, but the larger quantity is better for when you want to sit and chat with friends instead of standing at the bar). There were about eight wines to choose from when we visited: a prosecco, three reds, and a handful of whites. You can also purchase charcuterie plates to go with your tasting for ~$10 (but we were just there for wine, so I can't really speak to those). I think the best part about Purple Corkscrew is the service. The women working there when we visited (possibly some of the owners?) were all so welcoming and friendly. You can tell that they really love working there. Bottom Line: Cute wine shop, and with no wineries nearby, it's a fun place to do a tasting. Be sure to pick up a loyalty card, which rewards you with a bottle of wine for every 10 purchases made (tastings included). read more

Yesterday was my first time at Purple Corkscrew. I was fortunate to attend their 5 year celebration later in the afternoon around 4PM. The location is so cute and cozy it reminded me of being at home with some friends enjoying wine, good food and music. The staff are so sweet and personable with tons of knowledge when it comes to wine. The selection of wines are really nice and affordable and they also have the cutest candles there with unique scents that will blow you away. Oh and if you buy the candles there you can get them refilled too. The way I learned about this wonderful shop was through my sister who has a food and wine magazine that had the wine maker of the evening on the cover Andre' Mack so I appreciated the shop supporting her and providing everyone with a copy to take home. I do plan on stopping back again in the near future with friends who need to check this place out. I wish them much success in the years ahead. read more

My honey and I really enjoyed our time here! We came in on a Friday night and surprisingly had the place to ourselves. It was perfect! The young lady that helped us with our tasting was friendly and knowledgeable. The atmosphere is warm and inviting which is a great place if you want to have conversation. I have been living in Avondale Estates for almost 2 years and never thought to stop at this amazing place. I'm turning 30 and I had Wine Tasting on my "30 Days til 30" countdown list. So my friend surprised me with this amazing Friday night outing. We were able to sit outside near the fire pit and sip a flight of wines. They were all amazing! Due to covid you're not able to order a cheese tray however they allow you to order food from next door (my parents basement) . I can't wait to come back! And to attend one of their events! To reiterate the sentiments in a below review, beware, this is only an enjoyable time for those who are willing to pay for goods and services. Fortunately I had prior experience paying for wine at other stores so I felt prepared upon entering the Purple Corkscrew. I have been to the wine shop for regular flight tastings as well as the wine and grilled cheese tasting. The wine and grilled cheese tasting was a really fun event and well worth the $25. The owner, Steffini, is very welcoming and knowledgeable. The Purple Corkscrew provides a relaxed environment with ample seating to enjoy both tastings and good conversation. Went there for the first time yesterday (Friday) evening...What an awesome experience! I love everything wine and this place did not disappoint. Really cute and cozy decor, super friendly and knowledgeable staff (in my excitement about my new experience I forgot to get the names of the three ladies who assisted me). Obviously wine lovers and their passion for wine was evident as they jumped on the opportunity to expose me to wines better than Caymus. I ended up getting a variety of wines - one splurge wine, a couple not too pricey "everyday" reds, and a couple whites for the upcoming warm days). Can't wait to try my selections! Worst experience I have had in a long time. Walked in to shop and owner mentioned that an event was going on. Rose and grilled cheese. Decided to shop...good selection and while we were shopping, we were offered a sample of the house rose. Decided not to buy and left without finishing the sample.
