Tucked away in a little shopping center, Highland Fine Wine is an unassuming little corner store that you could easily drive by and not notice it, but you'd be making a mistake. What they lack in space is made up for by the variety of wines. They will also be happy to do some special ordering for you as well. I spoke with the sales associate today, Peter, who also said that they frequently turn over wines and bring new things in. This place is a perfect little store for those who want to explore the world of wines and you're open to trying new things. Now, if you're looking for a specific bottle from a little vineyard in southern France and you need it today, perhaps this is not your store. They do wine tastings on Saturday afternoons from 3-5pm. Despite living in Midtown since 2000 and having come to Ansley Mall multiple times, I never noticed this shop until my fiancee recommended it when we were looking to buy some wine as a gift for some friends. Ansley Wine Merchants has been in business since 1986 so they must be doing something right. This place was packed to the gills with wine from all over the world. We were looking for a good cava (Spanish sparkling wine) or white wine and asked one of the staff members, Janie, for assistance. We gave her an approximate price point and she guided us to all of the store's caves and white wines. She was helpful, provided suggestions, and it didn't take us long to find what we were looking for. We ended up going with a bottle of Suavia Massifitti Trebbiano (750 mL for $26.99). We had it with dinner the next day with our friends and everyone liked it. I thought it was great. It's described as having scents of stone fruit and white flower. We got free gift wrapping. The guy at the checkout counter, Brandon, wrapped the bottle in a glossy silver wrap and tied the neck with a silver bow. It looked nice.
