The Great Summation: Save your money. The wine making experience isn't worth the Groupon or private class fees, particularly since the owner can be rude and dismissive. For about $99 you can buy the wine kit and necessary equipment online. I saw some of the same wine kits online at Wal-Mart. You can also invite friends and split the cost. The Breakdown: I first bought the $99 Groupon for the wine-making experience. I thought that the experience would include making the wine from scratch, including squashing the fruit. However, it's not. It's from a wine kit that includes the wine, the yeast, and any juice used to sweeten the wine. The Groupon includes 3 classes with wine made from a wine kit chosen by one of the owners, most likely Martha. There are 3 classes. In the first class, you empty the wine from the kit into a barrel and add yeast. In the second class, the owner switches The wine to another barrel. In the last class, you taste and bottle the wine. The Groupon includes the bottles. The wine was bitter at first, but after it sat at home for a couple of weeks, it was decent. I had fun because of the other couple there. Martha lead the class, but she wasn't very engaging, outside of a couple of jokes. If you decide to buy a private class after using the Groupon, then you'll get $75 off the cost to make the wine at their shop; it's like an administrative fee. While you get to choose the kit, which ranges from about $100-200 (mine was $212), it doesn't include bottling, which is $1/bottle if you buy it there. You'll need about 28 bottles. During the last private class session, Martha was downright rude. She kept leaving for a smoke break. She also kept rushing my friends and me, which was rude considering that we were her first class for the day. Rather than fully explaining things, she kept saying that I took the class, so I can explain it. It didn't make sense for her to be so rude and dismissive, especially since the wine kits can be bought online and made far cheaper than what her store offers. read more

Took my husband here for a fun weekend activity to learn to make beer! The family run shop is packed with beer and wine making supplies and are a really fun group to lead a class. The class is actually pretty interesting and convinced us we'd try our own hand at making beer (eventually...) The shop could probably use some additional retail options, such as cheese plates/ knives, etc. to make this into a more robust one-stop shop to create your own and then throw a party with it for your friends. Georgia is dumb, as always, with their alcohol related laws and they can't actually serve beer while you learn to make it... but they let you out for a break to go to the bar on the corner! read more

I came here to purchase some brewing supplies and ingredients and after what I went through, my biggest mistake was giving this store my business. I've been a homebrewer for 10 years and have been to many different homebrew stores around the country. By nature, they are always interactive experiences that rely heavily on the ingredient knowledge-base of the store owner and their ability to retrieve and prepare ingredients promptly. The first thing out of who I presume was the owner was an extremely rude and demeaning comment about my attire. This was followed by a series of unnecessary condescending remarks that made me very uncomfortable to be there. It was an empty store with no other customers coming and going so I was impressed at the level this guy would go. I interjected that I was here to buy ingredients and he reluctantly obliged to take down my ingredient list items, several of which, including a very common lager yeast, he had to substitute with lesser ingredients which negatively affected the quality of my wort. Never again! My advice to fellow brewers is to go elsewhere. I have most certainly moved on. read more

Absolutely outstanding. I just got my first kit with them. They walked me through every step and even took my calls when I had questions. It's one of the most comfortable stores I've ever been in, they have not pressured me to buy anything expensive once. I took the beer brewing class with a buddy. They were not only wildly entertaining, but very knowledgeable! They really put me at ease with how I'd been brewing my first kit. I can't see myself ever using another homebrew store! read more

Marcia was great explaining all the details of how the wine is crafted from start to finish. We loved it so much we bought a groupon for our friends so they could have the same experience. While I have never needed anything here myself, my husband is a bigtime homebrewer and I'm often in the shop with him. It's so nice to have a brew center close by, since we used to drive to Roswell or Sandy Springs for hops/grain/etc. Wine Workshop always has what he needs, and they always remember our names and are interested in what the ingredients will be turned into. read more

This place is owned by some of the nicest folks you'll meet. We were planning to visit Atlanta from out of town and I had messaged ahead to special order some sacks of grain for me as it's marked up substantially where we live. I showed up on Saturday afternoon and they had 4 sacks waiting for me. A quick walk around he shop and it looks like they have everything you could need for brewers and vintners. I went in to buy my wife everything she'd need to start making wine at home as a gift. I was a little intimidated going in because of my lack of knowledge. The people that worked there were very warm and welcoming and they got me just what I needed. Never did they try to up sell anything and never did I feel uncomfortable. When I saw that Wine Workshop & Brew Center opened in Decatur, we decided to give wine making a try and went there to purchase an ingredient kit. From the time we walked in, they were extremely helpful. They helped us pick out a kit that would be right for us and walked us through all the steps of making the wine from start to finish. They said if we had any questions to call them.....which was have, a lot! We have had several questions throughout each step of making the wine and whoever answers the phone when we call is always extremely helpful with answering our questions and making us feel not so incompetent :-) I will definitely go back here for all of our home-brewing needs! read more

Found them through a Living Social deal and glad I did! My boyfriend has been talking about brewing beer for months. This class was very educational while being entertaining. It is a family run business and that shows in their customer care. Extremely knowledgeable staff and helpful for a couple of novices like us. However, this store is not just for novices as folks from the local breweries came in for supplies while we were there. I think this store is good for whatever stage of brewer you are. We ended up buying a home brew kit and ingredients after the class convinced us we could brew at home. While I am sure you can find comparable kits and prices online, you cannot beat the knowledge and customer service here. If we have any problems we know we can give them a call or visit for help/supplies. Looking forward to test out our new hobby! read more
