I typically use chocolate chip cookies as a staple to assess the overall quality of ingredients. I actually have to say I DISLIKED the chocolate chip cookie-- shocking. I think they use cheap chocolate (specifically milk) when (call me biased) I think it should be sparing uses of dark chocolate. Lastly, I ordered a DELISH Fig and Brown Butter Muffin. Sooo unique, but I KID YOU NOT there was a quarter-sized pieces of plastic baked into it. They were out of some things when I went around 1pm Friday but I was glad they at least had a couple options for me to choose from. Service was nice and helpful describing things to me. If you like a solid flaky and buttery pastry, this is your spot. Galette had wonderful pastries that will fill every taste from sweet to savory (The ham, egg, and cheese - is great! And the ham is IN the egg, you don't have to try and take it back like I did). The pistachio croissant was the best pistachio pastry I've ever had and I'm glad that there's no parking nearby because clearly I needed the walk after eating it. Their potato leek soup was just ok in my opinion. Not the best, not the worst. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The place is cute, but very few seats.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And the staff is super helpful and friendly even when busy; they'll happily walk you through whatever you have questions on. I love a well laminated flaky. Today we walked into here and walked out with 1 butter croissant and 1 ham & cheese croissant. The layers were light, flaky and when pulled apart, you'll be able to see the beautiful layers and the pastry "string". LOVE IT! Parking here is limited. Parking is available behind, in front or along the road to the left of the shop. Will definitely come here again for a sit down meal. Heads up--weekend hours (Sat/Sun) are 8 AM to 2 PM, so plan accordingly! We first tried visiting on a Sunday around 1:15 PM but arrived too late--they were sold out of everything except two muffins. We came back on a Thursday around 10 AM and had much better luck. The counter was fully stocked with beautiful pastries, and the service was fast and friendly. Checkout is on a touchscreen that asks for a tip--even if you're just popping in for a pastry. No pressure, just be ready to make a quick decision! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The space is bright and clean with a few small tables inside and a few more outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I picked up a peach galette and a ham-and-cheese baguette sandwich ($19.60 total)--both were fresh and delicious. Avondale Estates is now home to one of the best bakeries in the Atlanta metro area. Galette started as a stand at the local Farmer's Market with very long lines and so recently has opened a brick and mortar location. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's a very small shop located in the heart of downtown Avondale.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The galettes, croissants and other baked goods I'd never even heard of are all pretty amazing.
