I do the drive from Augusta to the bakery because it's the closest I can get to my island pastries. They have never disappointed and I have been there at different times during the day. I call in my orders and when I can't make the drive, I order for delivery and get my butter bread, nipple bread, cassava pone, coconut rolls and current rolls and my sweet bread. I get bread pudding and guava turnover too. Yes, my order is always a big one because my granddaughters love the nipple bread, my son loves the coconut rolls, my other son loves the currant rolls, and I order a whole cassava pone just for me. My husband loves everything from the bakery. I don't have no photos because the pastries don't last long. And besides, we eat down half the bread on the drive back to Augusta. You know how there is a reputation of some Caribbean restaurant counter staff always having an attitude (Cough cough )? Not here, not today! I make it a point to stop in every time I am in ATL, and we were waiting in the parking lot 10 minutes before opening time. Unfortunately, I was disappointed because the saltfish pates were about 30 minutes from being ready. I did manage to console myself with: a beef pate (the dough is amazing, generous scoop of well seasoned meat), guava tart (delicious, not overly sweet), raisin drops (they were still warm from the oven, fluffy, lovely coconut flavor) and a cup of bush tea. What really put it over the top was the young lady working the counter. Good customer service is being pleasant, polite, quick service...she took it a step further and acknowledged that my experience wasn't up to my liking, and informed me that they ship the pates or I can preorder for pickup. Really great job of service recovery and upselling the business. I'll always come back here for the food, but the service today was definitely exceptional. read more

Saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It was definitely worth the stop! My boyfriend and I got a little too excited about all the baked goods they had. We ended up getting some beef patties, saltfish patties, guava and coconut turnovers, bread pudding, and a box of the mini tarts (which comes in guava, pineapple, mango, and coconut flavors). Even though we thought we bought a lot, our household of three almost ate everything in one sitting! My favorite is the mini tart that come in a variety of flavors. My go to place in Atlanta when I need a taste of comfort. The only West Indian Bakery I go to and I stop here anytime I'm on this side of town. Located on busy Covington Hwy in Decatur there is plenty of parking. I've tried all the baked goods here and everything is good butter bread, currents roll, coconut drops, raisin bun, tarts, etc turnovers all delicious. There is also a hot bar that serves food but I've never tried any of it but it seems to be popular and looks good. A longtime staple in the community. This bakery is loved far and near. A family business, I mean even the customers that come in are at home. Location: off of Covington near I285 exit. Signage is visible from the road. Tip: pay close attention driving into the parking lot, there is a slight hill. Inside: this is a real bakery it's not a coffee shop. Also, social distancing there is no need for dining in. Display is stocked daily, with fresh pastries. As soon as you walk in you know your in the right place with authentic and traditional West Indian pastry goods. Food: baked goods are exceptional. Today I tasted the new veggie paté. It is a great item as a meal or as a snack. The outside has a beautiful, brown color with a wonderful soft warm bread inside filled with perfectly seasoned vegetables that any vegetarian or meat eater would enjoy. Greetings, I'm elated that Thomas bakery has an option to ship. Originally from St.Croix and longed for some baked goods. I currently resident in Florida. I ordered 30 small buns, 5 guava turnovers, 5 pineapple turnovers, 10 coconut raisin drops, 2 butter breads, 30 titty breads, 10 currant rolls, 6 coconut rolls. Upon arrival all items were in vacuum sealed freezer bags and packaged securely. When I opened the packages to separate and place in portion sized bags, my kitchen smelled like a bakery. I initially ordered on a Thursday to ensure freshness my package was shipped on the following Monday. I was sent an email informing me of aforementioned consideration. The customer service was second to none! I would wholeheartedly recommend using the shipping services if you're not in Georgia. I will be ordering my thanksgiving tarts. You can freeze these baked goods for up to 6 months in the freeze. read more

5 stars for the bakery! The pastries are delicious and fresh. You walk in and see the guy in the back kneading dough and making said pastries in the back. Not a good place to be if you're trying to watch your figure. The hot food being sold on the other hand I have to give 1 star. Not sure I'd they are affiliated with the bakery or if they just share the space. I had a chicken roti. No flavor what so ever. The chicken and peas and potatoes were bland. I also tried the beef and rice and beans. The beef had a slight sweet taste and the rice and beans bland. I couldn't even eat it. Why the beef was sweet? I have no idea. The food and the service is always great! The bakery is pretty small but homey. The people that work there are always so sweet and kind. The most recent time I visited they forgot to give me my sticky bun but nonetheless everything else was perfect. The rock buns were FRESH and WARM and so yummy. The owner is independent of the shop and has his own setup inside the bakery. The doubles did not live up to expectations and they actually had a funny smell to them. This hole in the wall place is one for that won't be missed if you can't make it. My family and I stopped by after Thanksgiving to grab some doubles for breakfast (Traditional Trinidadian Fare) we are Trinidadians so the bar is set pretty high for all things Trinidadian. As you walk in there is the bakery to the left and the Doubles Man to the right. Keep in mind these are completely separate business operating in the same space. The last few doubles we had were amazing but we got them actually in Trinidad. We ordered about 6 doubles and 3 Allo pies with chana. The leaned more to the sweet side, perhaps the chutney was made sweeter and the cucumber "slaw" was pretty tasty. We did ask for spicy but it seems as we didn't receive it. They did provide their pepper sauce which wasn't as spicy as we like. I can say I might come back and give it another try if it's on the way to where I'm going but that's rare in ATL. Based on past experiences here, we were excited to bring my mother to try some of the treats. (We're from St. Croix and have been going to Thomas bakery down there for decades.) This most recent time, we went about an hour before close on Sunday. We knew there would not be much left, but were in the area and wanted to stop in. I would highly recommend Johnny's Cake, which is salt-fish and bake. Delicious! I will definitely be back and I also adore their salt-fish fritter ($1.00). There is plenty of parking, but this is a grab and go establishment, not a dine in. I have been missing home for some time now,so I just had to go and get some cruzan food. On the bakery side I got butter bread( fresh out the oven), coconut drops and sweet buns. The butter bread was so good that we finished more than half the loaf and we were still waiting to order from the hot food side, so we bought another one. The sweet buns tasted great but the coconut drops were okay. On the hot food side I got saltfish, season rice, dumplin, okra, stew fish and johnny cake. My boyfriend has lived in this neighborhood forever and I just can't believe that we only got around to trying this place today. We stopped by thinking we'd just pick up a couple of patties to have for lunch on an outing to Stone Mountain Park. Well, we got so much more. The patties were homemade and delicious - some of the best I've had. We got several of the pastries and they were all wonderful. The lunch items on a small steam table looked sooo tempting and we will definitely be back to try them. The only negative thing may be that the staff wasn't too helpful, but that may have been a matter of language problems or maybe the staff was just put off by a strange white woman asking lots of uninformed questions. Anyway, the result is that I don't know what the pastries I got are called, but they looked for all the world like slices of German strudel. We used to brag about Thomas Bakery. We would buy up to two whole currants rolls, cut into about nine or ten slices each and take with us whenever we were visiting our friends in Estero, Florida. My friend would share with her daughter in Tampa. Lately the quality has taken a nose dive. We tried again today and we were not happy.
