Guava, pineapple, mango, and coconut tarts
Hannah W.

Saw this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. It was definitely worth the stop! My boyfriend and I got a little too excited about all the baked goods they had. We ended up getting some beef patties, saltfish patties, guava and coconut turnovers, bread pudding, and a box of the mini tarts (which comes in guava, pineapple, mango, and coconut flavors). Even though we thought we bought a lot, our household of three almost ate everything in one sitting! My favorite is the mini tart that come in a variety of flavors. They are also really cute and would make a good treat to bring for family or friends!

My go to place in Atlanta when I need a taste of comfort. The only West Indian Bakery I go to and I stop here anytime I'm on this side of town. Located on busy Covington Hwy in Decatur there is plenty of parking. I've tried all the baked goods here and everything is good butter bread, currents roll, coconut drops, raisin bun, tarts, etc turnovers all delicious. There is also a hot bar that serves food but I've never tried any of it but it seems to be popular and looks good. Whenever I'm on this side of town I will definitely stop in and pick up some goodies.

A longtime staple in the community. This bakery is loved far and near. A family business, I mean even the customers that come in are at home. Location: off of Covington near I285 exit. Signage is visible from the road. Tip: pay close attention driving into the parking lot, there is a slight hill. Inside: this is a real bakery it's not a coffee shop. Also, social distancing there is no need for dining in. Display is stocked daily, with fresh pastries. As soon as you walk in you know your in the right place with authentic and traditional West Indian pastry goods. Food: baked goods are exceptional. Today I tasted the new veggie paté. It is a great item as a meal or as a snack. The outside has a beautiful, brown color with a wonderful soft warm bread inside filled with perfectly seasoned vegetables that any vegetarian or meat eater would enjoy. They also have cooked meal options available on certain days and fresh homemade juices. Truly a one stop shop location. So hurry and get your baked goods for any and all occasions, but leave some for me.

5 stars for the bakery! The pastries are delicious and fresh. You walk in and see the guy in the back kneading dough and making said pastries in the back. Not a good place to be if you're trying to watch your figure. The hot food being sold on the other hand I have to give 1 star. Not sure I'd they are affiliated with the bakery or if they just share the space. I had a chicken roti. No flavor what so ever. The chicken and peas and potatoes were bland. I also tried the beef and rice and beans. The beef had a slight sweet taste and the rice and beans bland. I couldn't even eat it. Why the beef was sweet? I have no idea. From now on I will stick to the bakery and get pastries/bread only.

Saltfish Patty

Came here Saturday just to get a few bakery items. It can be hard finding a good carribbean restaurant or bakery that's closer to what I get in NY. We bought coconut rolls, currant rolls and saltfish patties. The saltfish patty is amazing, it's basically like bake and saltfish but in a patty form. Definitely will be coming back for more

Butter & Cream

Love this little ice cream shop!…read more I've visited Butter & Cream before, but my latest visit was a favorite. After spending a sunny afternoon celebrating my besties birthday with her and a few of our girlfriends, we decided to keep the fun going with some ice cream. Never too old for a random sweet treat! Although we were already in the neighborhood, we lucked up on a day when everybody and their mama were outside, which meant limited parking. So we had to pay for parking on this visit, but ended up making it worthwhile by strolling around Decatur Square with our cones. I When we entered, there was one employee behind the counter and they were so kind. There were a few customers in front of us and some behind us in line, so apparently we weren't the only adults in the city who were craving a sweet treat. The store was so cute and covered in art and clocks created with ice cream scoops. We decided to taste a few flavors that were new to us and the employee was so patient with us. We all decided to go with the honeycomb flavor, and I added on a scoop of strawberry because I believe in treating myself. I was bummed that they didn't have sugar cones, but a waffle cone worked. My ice cream was SO good! And they were quite generous with the scoops. As I'm writing this out, I'm wanting a fresh pint of my own again. Such a great stop when you're craving something sweet!

Butter & Cream in downtown Decatur is typically my go to spot when I am in the area and craving ice…read morecream, so I was excited to try something new on this visit. I ordered the Cookie Monster with toffee cone bits on top. The texture of the ice cream was great, very smooth and creamy, which is exactly what you want. However, the flavor itself just did not come through. It almost tasted like a base without much depth. The only moments of real flavor were when I bit into the cookie pieces or the toffee bits, which were both enjoyable, but the ice cream on its own felt like it was missing something. It is a bit hard to describe because the consistency was there, but the taste simply did not match. That said, I am not writing Butter & Cream off at all. I have had other flavors here that were absolutely delicious, which is why I am willing to give this one another try. Overall, still one of my preferred ice cream spots in Decatur. I am just hoping for a little more flavor the next time I order the Cookie Monster.

Great bakery in Atlanta! My friend and I shared a variety of pastries:…read more - Sausage Roll: The flavor was great and a generous amount of meat. Wish this was heated up though, I feel like it would've been better. - Oxtail Meat Pie: Similar to the sausage roll with a generous amount of meat but wish it was heated up. It was pretty hefty. - Strawberry Pistachio and Coconut Cream Danishes: Both were so good! I loved the crispy and crunchy danishes and the flavors were great in these. I like the savory pistachios and the creamy and crumbly coconut cream. - Chocolate Chip Cookie: This was such a delicious cookie! Perfectly made in between soft and firm and textures. The sea salt on top was chef's kiss. The lines move pretty fast. There's nowhere to sit and lounge, so you would need to take these pastries elsewhere to enjoy. The staff is also really nice and patient when my friend and I were trying to decide on pastries. Overall, I think these pastries would do good in an air fryer/oven. I would come back, but bring the pastries home to warm and crisp them up a bit. I also really want to try their burger which is only sold on the weekend at certain times!

I decided to try the infamous Sunday burger. I was not in the mood to drive to Kirkwood on Sunday…read moreand miss what I drove there for. I called in the morning to confirm the time they serve it. I was told to get here by 12:30pm because they serve the burgers at 1pm and the line gets long and they run out. Found out later in line from the person in front of me that they make 130-170 burgers and they sell them all. That's a lot of burgers. I thought it was all hype because I got there at 12:20pm and there was no line. I went in and asked to make sure this was the right place, the guy said to wait outside, they start selling it at 1pm. I was 1st in line. Waited 5 mins then went to my car to get my headphones. By the time I came back, 3 people were now in front of me. I guess the 12:30pm recommendation was valid. By 12:35pm there were 20 people behind me. I do not like waiting, so I'm glad I was early to at least be served 1st. Never been here before, they are busy. When I got here, it was packed with people buying bread and pastries inside. I didn't get to buy the sourdough bread. It was sold out. Apparently, the locals come every Sunday for this burger. I guess they hang a burger flag out when it's burger time some of the people in the line in front of me felt a way that they didn't do that this time. I guess they're getting comfortable and just trying to knock the rush/crowd out. I think coming at one would be fine if they're selling 170 burgers I think the problem is they don't limit the amount of burgers you can buy. At least I don't think so. Now for this burger. Not worth it. Not worth the wait or the hype. I'm still surprised how basic tasted. They need a housemate sauce or something on it. It's literally just one burger and pickles. If it was pack full of flavor and well seasoned, that would be enough. But it's not. The best part about it is the bun. And 30mins after eating the burger, I didn't feel so good. My stomach started hurting, and that was the only thing I ate all day. I avoid eating beef altogether, but I will here and there as of late. My boyfriend eats beef, but he started feeling sick maybe an hour later as well. I was disappointed because I didn't know they pre-make the burgers and just throw them in the bag. You can't customize it or anything. I think we got sick because the burgers were medium. They were not cooked well, and I always get beef burgers cooked all the way through. The way they're rushing you out of there like an express assembly line is crazy. I really wanted to wait to ask them to prepare me two, made well since they were making burgers as they were going along, I believe. I would have waited to have them made well but the way they were rushing you out, it just wasn't the place to ask for anything extra or additional and I don't like places like that. Too strict too many rules and you don't feel comfortable. Even though you're spending $70 on 2 burgers and some pastries. Compared to a pack of ground beef to make your own burgers, this is a lot. I bought two burgers $17 each, and 5 pastries to try because I won't be coming back here anytime soon. I will say, great pastry selection. I was talking to a guy in line and I asked him if he ever had the kouign amann. It looked good. He said yes, it was good, and the chocolate kouign amann, he's going to try as well. I purchased a chocolate kouign amann, a regular kouign amann, cardamom bun, a hazelnut bun, and monkey bread. I wrote everything down outside that I was going to buy so I didn't waste any time. I already spotted the monkey bread when I walked in. The woman packaging up the food was about to fix her face to say they didn't have any monkey bread, when they were clearly at the other end. Maybe that was her doing me a favor because I was highly disappointed in the monkey bread. I'm on a monkey bread kick, and I have been trying it at a lot of places. This one was not good. They sprinkle lemon zest on it, which kind of threw me off, and the bread itself was very dry even after warming it up, adding melted butter and honey. It still was not good. The best thing was the original kouign amann. The chocolate one was not good because they have chocolate on the inside kind of like moose or ganache, but it was overwhelming. It tasted like dark cocoa chocolate, and I thought the pastry was dark because the whole thing was chocolate, but it actually was burnt. A lot of the items looked burnt to be honest. I think the demand is getting to this place. The cardamom bun was just ok. The hazelnut bun was just an extension of the monkey bread to me. Not a fan. I remember growing up, we went to the local butcher and bakery to get fresh meat, bread, and pastries for cheap. I like the idea of a local bakery and butcher shop like this, but this place is not cheap. I'd skip this one.
