I stopped by here on my way to DeKalb Farmers Market. I liked the cute shabby chic decor and was pleased to see other patrons there on a late Sunday afternoon. I ordered a slice of the caramel cake but was unfortunately disappointed. The cake itself was on the dry side, and the caramel frosting was extremely sweet. Given that the slice was over 8 dollars, I expected it to taste better than your average slice of cake.

Every time I need a sweet treat near work, I stop here. It never fails to lift my mood! I am a big fan of the German chocolate cake. I am not vegan, but my coworker who is vegan, loved the bakery for all the vegan options! Definitely worth a stop if you are in the area it is close by to the DeKalb farmers market.

I liked the customer service, but after having tried their other desserts, I haven't found any that call me back.

If you're ever near the DeKalb Farmers Market, make sure to save a little room for dessert because Southern Sweet Bakery is an absolute treasure! Tucked away in an unassuming spot, this bakery is a true hidden gem that's worth every step off the beaten path. I stumbled across it by chance, and I'm so glad I did. From the moment you walk in, the smell of freshly baked goods wraps around you like a warm hug. The staff are incredibly friendly and make you feel like family. Now, let's talk about the star of the show--the desserts! Whether you're a fan of classic Southern treats or something a little more unique, they've got you covered. Their cakes are moist and rich, their pies are perfectly balanced Their pricing per slice was a little more than I would have liked to pay, but I understand that people need to run a business and make a profit. If you're in Decatur, Southern Sweet Bakery is a must-visit.

We were celebrating a friend's birthday and decided to pick up cake from Southern Sweets to celebrate her! We ordered the Carrot Spice cake and it was a pretty easy pickup process. The cake itself is a generous portion. The cake crumb was moist and tender and I LOVED the cream cheese portion. The pecan coating was a nice crunchy contrast as well. Overall, great dessert and definitely want to check out more offerings!

Wow! This place has been on my list for about a year, and I wish I had come sooner. It is not a small bakery, there is quite a bit of indoor and outdoor seating and just SO MANY cakes. Way more cakes than they have on their website, which was a pleasant surprise. It was crowded as well, not too crowded, but more people than I expected for the time that I came. I got several slices of cake ($7 per slice): the amaretto butter (a bit too sweet for me), the Oreo cheesecake (only type of cheesecake I'll eat!), and the German chocolate cake (absolutely fantastic, devoured by me, my friend and my husband). My vegan friends have previously raved about this bakery because of the delicious options available to them as well. I also ordered a classic breakfast (~$13) of eggs, biscuit, grits and chicken sausage. Wasn't expecting too much as I don't typically love the type of biscuit shown in the pictures I saw. But the biscuit was actually incredibly moist and tasty! I even asked for more raspberry jam because I have a special sweet tooth and wanted to slather my biscuit in it. The chicken sausage was especially good too, some of the best I've had, where you genuinely think to yourself, "Is this really not pork?" And I felt like the eggs were cooked perfectly and so tasty. The grits were a bit watery but could've been a one off and next time I'll probably want to try the potatoes anyways. I also got the Squeeze King Blueberry Lemonade, which interested me because it is from a local farm and is just juice, water, sugar and puree. It was very good and not too sweet, though I'll probably still water it down a bit at home. Breakfast is served until 11 on weekdays and 1 on weekends, which made me very happy as I love breakfast, and I tend to sleep in. Many people were also enjoying lunch with friends at the time that I came in, and I got the feeling that this place has its fair share of local regulars, which is always a good sign! I am just all around impressed by the space and the food and will plan to come back. Oh, and there's plenty of parking!

Food was good. I had lunch special 1/2 sandwich & soup (tomato basil). Service was great at the time I was there and the Ambiance of the restaurant was okay. I like the art on the walls and I like that the menus were written on a chalkboard. I like that the restaurant has a modern touch in technology and still provides the old school way people are use to. While Yelp asks if restaurant(s) provide QR codes for menus to me this allows for people to possibly tamper with the QR codes and getting away with possibly hacking a customer. From a very particular customer that has his own view on how I perceive things to be. The location of where the trash is while not bad could be better and more visible especially for people that are dining in. Also had to pick up the "oh so famous" best coconut cake in Georgia!

If you're ever attending a potluck or a dinner party and you're tasked for bringing desserts, this is the place to go! A friend of mine decided to bring a vegan chocolate cake from here over to our house for a holiday party and it was a hit! My wife and I enjoyed the cake so much that we decided to get the same cake for Christmas Day. Although I've only had the chocolate cake, the cafe does a lot of desserts and they also serve breakfast and lunch items. While we were picking up our Cake for Christmas today, we also decided to grab a Cobb salad and a BLT for lunch. Both the salad and Sandwich was decent, but probably a little bit overpriced in my opinion. As for the ambiance of the cafe, it was pretty cool. You walk in and there is a few tables for sitting and there are some outside as well. All throughout the cafe is dope art from different time periods and cultures, definitely gives you a "cafe" feel. Probably wouldn't recommend the spot for large parties or a date night, but if you wanted to grab a quick bite with a friend or have some coffee and read/work on something, this is the place.

We stopped here after lunch in attempt to curb afternoon sweat cravings. And the cakes did their job!

This has been a long-time family favorite spot for sweets, and I have always said that they have had my favorite cakes, but lately, I feel like the quality has gone down. The cakes are obviously smaller than they used to be but at the same price, and they just don't taste as good as they used to. I did try a new kind of cake this time, the strawberries and cream, and it was just not really good. It tasted too sweet and a little artificial, and the layers just kind of fell apart. Not really the quality I'm used to them having. It didn't taste great, and it was a disappointing experience. I hope they are able to get back to what they used to be because it was so good but I don't know how soon I'll be going back.

Love this little ice cream shop!…read more I've visited Butter & Cream before, but my latest visit was a favorite. After spending a sunny afternoon celebrating my besties birthday with her and a few of our girlfriends, we decided to keep the fun going with some ice cream. Never too old for a random sweet treat! Although we were already in the neighborhood, we lucked up on a day when everybody and their mama were outside, which meant limited parking. So we had to pay for parking on this visit, but ended up making it worthwhile by strolling around Decatur Square with our cones. I When we entered, there was one employee behind the counter and they were so kind. There were a few customers in front of us and some behind us in line, so apparently we weren't the only adults in the city who were craving a sweet treat. The store was so cute and covered in art and clocks created with ice cream scoops. We decided to taste a few flavors that were new to us and the employee was so patient with us. We all decided to go with the honeycomb flavor, and I added on a scoop of strawberry because I believe in treating myself. I was bummed that they didn't have sugar cones, but a waffle cone worked. My ice cream was SO good! And they were quite generous with the scoops. As I'm writing this out, I'm wanting a fresh pint of my own again. Such a great stop when you're craving something sweet!

I ordered the Cookie Monster with toffee cone bits on top. The texture of the ice cream was great, very smooth and creamy, which is exactly what you want. However, the flavor itself just did not come through. It almost tasted like a base without much depth. The only moments of real flavor were when I bit into the cookie pieces or the toffee bits, which were both enjoyable, but the ice cream on its own felt like it was missing something. It is a bit hard to describe because the consistency was there, but the taste simply did not match. That said, I am not writing Butter & Cream off at all. I have had other flavors here that were absolutely delicious, which is why I am willing to give this one another try. Overall, still one of my preferred ice cream spots in Decatur. I am just hoping for a little more flavor the next time I order the Cookie Monster.

I like the savory pistachios and the creamy and crumbly coconut cream. - Chocolate Chip Cookie: This was such a delicious cookie! Perfectly made in between soft and firm and textures. The sea salt on top was chef's kiss. The lines move pretty fast. There's nowhere to sit and lounge, so you would need to take these pastries elsewhere to enjoy. The staff is also really nice and patient when my friend and I were trying to decide on pastries. Overall, I think these pastries would do good in an air fryer/oven. I would come back, but bring the pastries home to warm and crisp them up a bit. I also really want to try their burger which is only sold on the weekend at certain times!

I decided to try the infamous Sunday burger. I was not in the mood to drive to Kirkwood on Sunday…read moreand miss what I drove there for. I called in the morning to confirm the time they serve it. I was told to get here by 12:30pm because they serve the burgers at 1pm and the line gets long and they run out. Found out later in line from the person in front of me that they make 130-170 burgers and they sell them all. That's a lot of burgers. I thought it was all hype because I got there at 12:20pm and there was no line. I went in and asked to make sure this was the right place, the guy said to wait outside, they start selling it at 1pm. I was 1st in line. Waited 5 mins then went to my car to get my headphones. By the time I came back, 3 people were now in front of me. I guess the 12:30pm recommendation was valid. By 12:35pm there were 20 people behind me. I do not like waiting, so I'm glad I was early to at least be served 1st. Never been here before, they are busy. When I got here, it was packed with people buying bread and pastries inside. I didn't get to buy the sourdough bread. It was sold out. Apparently, the locals come every Sunday for this burger. I guess they hang a burger flag out when it's burger time some of the people in the line in front of me felt a way that they didn't do that this time. I guess they're getting comfortable and just trying to knock the rush/crowd out. I think coming at one would be fine if they're selling 170 burgers I think the problem is they don't limit the amount of burgers you can buy. At least I don't think so. Now for this burger. Not worth it. Not worth the wait or the hype. I'm still surprised how basic tasted. They need a housemate sauce or something on it. It's literally just one burger and pickles. If it was pack full of flavor and well seasoned, that would be enough. But it's not. The best part about it is the bun. And 30mins after eating the burger, I didn't feel so good. My stomach started hurting, and that was the only thing I ate all day. I avoid eating beef altogether, but I will here and there as of late. My boyfriend eats beef, but he started feeling sick maybe an hour later as well. I was disappointed because I didn't know they pre-make the burgers and just throw them in the bag. You can't customize it or anything. I think we got sick because the burgers were medium. They were not cooked well, and I always get beef burgers cooked all the way through. The way they're rushing you out of there like an express assembly line is crazy. I really wanted to wait to ask them to prepare me two, made well since they were making burgers as they were going along, I believe. I would have waited to have them made well but the way they were rushing you out, it just wasn't the place to ask for anything extra or additional and I don't like places like that. Too strict too many rules and you don't feel comfortable. Even though you're spending $70 on 2 burgers and some pastries. Compared to a pack of ground beef to make your own burgers, this is a lot. I bought two burgers $17 each, and 5 pastries to try because I won't be coming back here anytime soon. I will say, great pastry selection. I was talking to a guy in line and I asked him if he ever had the kouign amann. It looked good. He said yes, it was good, and the chocolate kouign amann, he's going to try as well. I purchased a chocolate kouign amann, a regular kouign amann, cardamom bun, a hazelnut bun, and monkey bread. I wrote everything down outside that I was going to buy so I didn't waste any time. I already spotted the monkey bread when I walked in. The woman packaging up the food was about to fix her face to say they didn't have any monkey bread, when they were clearly at the other end. Maybe that was her doing me a favor because I was highly disappointed in the monkey bread. I'm on a monkey bread kick, and I have been trying it at a lot of places. This one was not good. They sprinkle lemon zest on it, which kind of threw me off, and the bread itself was very dry even after warming it up, adding melted butter and honey. It still was not good. The best thing was the original kouign amann. The chocolate one was not good because they have chocolate on the inside kind of like moose or ganache, but it was overwhelming. It tasted like dark cocoa chocolate, and I thought the pastry was dark because the whole thing was chocolate, but it actually was burnt. A lot of the items looked burnt to be honest. I think the demand is getting to this place. The cardamom bun was just ok. The hazelnut bun was just an extension of the monkey bread to me. Not a fan. I remember growing up, we went to the local butcher and bakery to get fresh meat, bread, and pastries for cheap. I like the idea of a local bakery and butcher shop like this, but this place is not cheap. I'd skip this one.
