What's left of my vegan rueban and hushpuppies! Omg! Delicious!

Delicious food. I am vegan, my bf is not. Large parking lot. Lots of pinball machines, a bar. Beautifully set up ..

My Parents' Basement is located next door to Purple Corkscrew and City Dog Market. This clever on words business is a barcade with pinball machines ($1 each) and arcade games. Some of the arcade games are free to play (such as X-Man, Pac- Man and Street Fighter). There are also quite a lot of comics (both used and new available for purchase) and random comic and scifi related paraphernalia for sale (such as Funko pop characters and other collectables). My Parents' Basement also is a restaurant with dog friendly outdoor patio seating. My husband and I decided to visit this business this afternoon, around 11:30 am. After parking right out front, we were greeted by 2 employees upon entering. Being that this was a week day, late morning, the place was pretty dead. There was only one table of 2 outside eating and one person playing an arcade game. Later on when we left, only another person came in to play video games. We ended up playing a few (free) arcade games and then eventually left. I do like the concept of this business and think it would definitely be a fun place to come to with friends. And I think it would be more fun if there was a larger crowd (which I can only imagine would be busier on weekends). If I lived in this area, I would come back to check them out again.

Cool restaurant with arcade and classic comics. Clean restrooms with cool sign. There pinballs tournaments hosted there. Wish we stayed longer so we can see the tournament and try their food. Maybe next time when we come to Atlanta again.

The atmosphere here is awesome. The comics, the energy it's a great place to come and hang. My friend thought her Scarlett witch drink was ok, a bit on the smaller side for the price point. But seeing all the comics, pinball machines, I will come back to try the food. I do recommend coming yourself.

Nostalgia overload! This is a fun spot for pinball machines and comic books (that you can buy). The food is just ok, standard bar/pub food. But the service is always good. The bathrooms have always been clean. The outside patio is dog friendly. And there's plenty of free parking.

I love the atmosphere here. They have awesome pinball machine selection and it's right next to the bar area. The arcade games are fun for multiplayer with new friends. Food I'd say is right on the money that is American comfort food style. Bartenders are attentive and helpful. All around great reliable weekend spot. See you for the pinball tournament!

Almost everything you can imagine from and 80's style basement and pub. Pinball machines and arcade games. Almost reliving my childhood with a good vegan meal.

Dog friendly - but only outside seating so wrap up warm Went there on Sunday about 12pm? 2 items already was sold out which was shrimp and grits and I believe another burger? Service I believe inside the restaurant would be better but seating outside we didn't get much, it's walk up to order and pay but when we done that and requested other additional items such as sauces (that were not available to pick yourself from the counter) we were left forgotten. Maybe would be better experience if we sat inside... and came not on a weekend?

Love this place! So, being from Austin it's hard to find any pinball spot that can top Pinballz. So, when traveling, I try to find cool spots with machines and this is prolly the best place in Atlanta (near Atlanta?). It has pinball, arcade games, COMIC BOOKS, a kitchen and full bar. Also also also, glancing at their cork board they have pinball tourney's, art nights, etc. Staff was incredible. We had a slight issue with our meal that our server was quick to address and unbeknownst to us, they took one of our drinks of our tab. Our bbq burger was tasty and the tots were perfect. Also, they have a wide selection of local and non-local beers. They have about 12-14 pinball machines, including some of my favs; Godzilla, Batman n Robin (the old tv show themed one), and foo fighters. I believe they have a list of their machines online. This is a great spot to hang out at by yourself or with a group of friends. I highly recommend it!

I come here with my dad quite frequently, and I always have a blast. The food is great, I love the burger and hummus plate. SO GOOD. My dad is vegan and he says their vegan options are amazing. He loves to get the Ruben most times we come. The staff is always kind, and often funny as well. The pinball is super fun and they have a good selection of comics. One of the pinball machines ate a few of my quarters, but the bartender quickly helped get them back. I will definitely continue to come here.

I didn't care for the ambience. The food was horrible. I never need to go back there again. It just wasn't my vibe.

The people at the front were very nice and joked around with us. Got some little old figurines and…read moreCDs. The CDs prices are not the greatest around but the books and toys seem well priced. Very nerdy vibe and you could spend forever browsing. It's nostalgic in there. The other reviews saying the place is kinda disorganized are correct. I didn't think it unsanitary, though. Probably a good place to hit if you're a geeky collector of something niche... but I'm not that cool, all I have is my CDs. Thanks guys!

My Review of the Book Crook: Waiting 48 Years to Leave This Google Review…read more On my 13th birthday decades ago, my parents opened a small new-and-used bookstore called The Book Trading Post here in the Atlanta area. They ran it successfully for 12 years. My father had connected with Alex, the owner of the original Book Nook on or near North Decatur/Clairmont, who promised a great variety of around 30,000 books. What arrived instead were massive duplicates -- 30 to 50 copies of the same titles. It was a horrible, upsetting experience that stayed with my father. At the time I was 13 and didn't really know what it all meant -- I just knew he was upset. My father passed in 1981 after chemotherapy and radiation at Emory. Recently, I brought in a large personal collection to the current Book Nook Decatur location -- over 130 albums plus many books, including rare 1940s-1960s sci-fi classics and a signed copy of Miracle in Atlanta. As a longtime collector of coins, books, comics, historic color brochures, and more, I knew the value easily exceeded $500, likely more. I first spoke with the manager on March 25th of this year. He gave a standard percentage quote and left a message. When I returned on March 27th to collect payment, I received just $70. They kept all the books -- which filled the entire counter on the right when you walk in -- and roughly half the albums. I left with two small suitcases. Walking around the store afterward, I saw their selling prices and realized they stand to make a substantial profit. I spoke with the manager (Doogie, like Doogie Howser from the 1980s show) and then with an employee named Scott, who has been there for years. I shared some of this backstory. Scott was pretend friendly and even suggested I didn't really need to write a bad review. That conversation left me feeling extremely uncomfortable, and that discomfort is exactly why I decided to write this review now. The owner is very old (likely in his late 80s or early 90s) and does not come into the store. I felt the manager was dishonest in the way the offer and process were handled. It all felt like history repeating itself in the worst way -- like a scene from Red Dawn: "Avenge me." In the end, I just took the money to be done with it. This isn't just about one low payout. Most people don't know the old story of The Book Trading Post and that first disappointing deal with the Book Nook. Now the full 48-year circle -- from my parents' store in the 1970s to today -- is part of the public record. If you have anything of real value (books, albums, collectibles), think carefully before bringing it here. Get your own realistic expectations and consider other options. P.S. For comedy purposes, I've officially renamed this place The Book Crook.
