This is such an amazing bakery in Kirkwood! I've been meaning to check this spot out for ages, and I'm so glad I finally made it over. I arrived right when they opened, so I had my pick of everything in the case. I grabbed the sourdough bagel, the cardamom bun, and the chocolate kouign-amann. Everything was fantastic! They're one of the few places in the area that actually makes cardamom buns, and it really hit the spot. Everything tasted so fresh; I honestly wish I could have tried it all. I'll definitely be back!

    Cheeseburger Sunday

Evergreen Bakery & Butcher on Cheeseburger Sunday is no joke. We got there just in time and secured two burgers... and the people behind us got the last two. When I say we were cutting it CLOSE, it felt like we won a small lottery. The burger? Absolutely perfect. Juicy, balanced, and flavorful. You can taste the intention. It was 100% worth the wait and the slight anxiety of possibly missing out. Of course I couldn't leave without pastries. We grabbed a coconut cookie, hazelnut bun, and a kouign-amann. Everything was amazing, but the hazelnut bun was easily my favorite. Soft, nutty, just sweet enough. I'm already thinking about going back specifically for that.

One of the best specialty shops in metro ATL! Finally made time to visit Evergreen Butcher Baker today and it turned out to be a "butter" day for me :-). This Kirkwood bakery butcher is tiny, charming, full of goodies with knowledgeable staff. EBB is an interesting mix of bakery, butcher and market. The retail space is small but is packed with delicious morsels of goodies. ++ Butcher section is higher end beef, lamb, pork and cured meats. However, they carry rather limited cuts, grinds and dry aged beef. Unusually, they offer prepared burgers on Sundays. ++ Bakery is European and American style pastries, breads and cookies. They also have sourdough bagels regularly. It was a mid-afternoon when I visited and bread and pastry selections were thin. I grabbed the last kougin amann and tried their sourdough bagel. It's not common to find an independent bagelry in ATL. + kougin amann was flavorful but was a bit heavy. ++ sourdough bagel was lighter and better than I expected! ++ Market section is imported and domestic specialty foods as well as convenient items for Kirkwood locals. They carry eggs, cold beverages, pasta, Maldon Salt, imported tomatoes, canned fish, old fashioned mugs as well as cultured butters. I picked up a block of Isigny ste mere beurre de baratte (churned butter) which turned:) out to be a fantastic discovery. This churned butter made their sourdough bagel super delicious. ++ Service is prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. + Price is high. $$$ not as Yelp indicates (bagel = $4 each; grain finished ribeye = $36/lb) + Parking is very limited private lot shared with Arden's and street. EBB is worth driving 45 minutes through Atlanta traffic. I already have their vollkornbrot on my list for my next visit. (11/6/25 update) Well, apparently NYT rated EBB as one of the best 22 bakeries in the USA last December. Lol, I'm not arguing. MY RATINGS - - - Inhumane - - Disgusted - Don't bother = Missed the Mark + Good ++ Better +++ EDIBLE...WHERE have you been all my LiFe!

A friend told us Evergreen was the best bakery in Georgia, they weren't exaggerating. I got an assortment of pastries and loved their Kouign-Amann and Oxtail Hand Pie!

The selection here is fantastic!! Ive been 2 or 3 times and there were new things to try each time. There is a line out the door but thankfully it moves fast. The counter people are super kind and willing to answer questions (but if you ask too many you'll likely have an angry mob behind you!) I'm a bakery addict so ive tried many pastries in many places. This place is up there with the best of the best!

I decided to try the infamous Sunday burger. I was not in the mood to drive to Kirkwood on Sunday and miss what I drove there for. I called in the morning to confirm the time they serve it. I was told to get here by 12:30pm because they serve the burgers at 1pm and the line gets long and they run out. Found out later in line from the person in front of me that they make 130-170 burgers and they sell them all. That's a lot of burgers. I thought it was all hype because I got there at 12:20pm and there was no line. I went in and asked to make sure this was the right place, the guy said to wait outside, they start selling it at 1pm. I was 1st in line. Waited 5 mins then went to my car to get my headphones. By the time I came back, 3 people were now in front of me. I guess the 12:30pm recommendation was valid. By 12:35pm there were 20 people behind me. I do not like waiting, so I'm glad I was early to at least be served 1st. Never been here before, they are busy. When I got here, it was packed with people buying bread and pastries inside. I didn't get to buy the sourdough bread. It was sold out. Apparently, the locals come every Sunday for this burger. I guess they hang a burger flag out when it's burger time some of the people in the line in front of me felt a way that they didn't do that this time. I guess they're getting comfortable and just trying to knock the rush/crowd out. I think coming at one would be fine if they're selling 170 burgers I think the problem is they don't limit the amount of burgers you can buy. At least I don't think so. Now for this burger. Not worth it. Not worth the wait or the hype. I'm still surprised how basic tasted. They need a housemate sauce or something on it. It's literally just one burger and pickles. If it was pack full of flavor and well seasoned, that would be enough. But it's not. The best part about it is the bun. And 30mins after eating the burger, I didn't feel so good. My stomach started hurting, and that was the only thing I ate all day. I avoid eating beef altogether, but I will here and there as of late. My boyfriend eats beef, but he started feeling sick maybe an hour later as well. I was disappointed because I didn't know they pre-make the burgers and just throw them in the bag. You can't customize it or anything. I think we got sick because the burgers were medium. They were not cooked well, and I always get beef burgers cooked all the way through. The way they're rushing you out of there like an express assembly line is crazy. I really wanted to wait to ask them to prepare me two, made well since they were making burgers as they were going along, I believe. I would have waited to have them made well but the way they were rushing you out, it just wasn't the place to ask for anything extra or additional and I don't like places like that. Too strict too many rules and you don't feel comfortable. Even though you're spending $70 on 2 burgers and some pastries. Compared to a pack of ground beef to make your own burgers, this is a lot. I bought two burgers $17 each, and 5 pastries to try because I won't be coming back here anytime soon. I will say, great pastry selection. I was talking to a guy in line and I asked him if he ever had the kouign amann. It looked good. He said yes, it was good, and the chocolate kouign amann, he's going to try as well. I purchased a chocolate kouign amann, a regular kouign amann, cardamom bun, a hazelnut bun, and monkey bread. I wrote everything down outside that I was going to buy so I didn't waste any time. I already spotted the monkey bread when I walked in. The woman packaging up the food was about to fix her face to say they didn't have any monkey bread, when they were clearly at the other end. Maybe that was her doing me a favor because I was highly disappointed in the monkey bread. I'm on a monkey bread kick, and I have been trying it at a lot of places. This one was not good. They sprinkle lemon zest on it, which kind of threw me off, and the bread itself was very dry even after warming it up, adding melted butter and honey. It still was not good. The best thing was the original kouign amann. The chocolate one was not good because they have chocolate on the inside kind of like moose or ganache, but it was overwhelming. It tasted like dark cocoa chocolate, and I thought the pastry was dark because the whole thing was chocolate, but it actually was burnt. A lot of the items looked burnt to be honest. I think the demand is getting to this place. The cardamom bun was just ok. The hazelnut bun was just an extension of the monkey bread to me. Not a fan. I remember growing up, we went to the local butcher and bakery to get fresh meat, bread, and pastries for cheap. I like the idea of a local bakery and butcher shop like this, but this place is not cheap. I'd skip this one.

    Sunday burger special

In my opinion, this is the best bakery in Atlanta. From their plain croissant to their specialty baked goods (cherry pistachio financier, chocolate pistachio pinwheel, etc), everything I've had here is phenomenal. And also, their Sunday burger is one of the top 5 burgers I've ever had in my life. I've come around 1:30 PM on 2 Sundays and haven't had a problem getting one. The line can vary (waited 5 min one time and 30 min the other). This is a MUST VISIT spot in ATL. I'll be back (many many more times).

We went one Sunday for the burgers and, my oh my! The best burger I've ever had. This is definitely attributed to the fresh, quality ingredients and homemade everything. We would happily drive down, wait in a line and pay $20 for these burgers again and again. Not to mention the breads and baked goods...I guess there's a reason Jesus called himself the bread of life. It's so cute inside and the open layout lets you see everything involved in the production of their goods. It's a little small, just enough space to look at the pastries in the glass and the tinned fishies on the shelves, and then you're on your way to enjoy your goods. Much love to evergreen butcher + baker

I came on a Sunday to get a burger and didn't end up getting one. The line was long, outside of the door. There was an array of different pastries. I got the monkey bread, the brown butter roll, ham and cheese crossiant, and the sausage egg and cheese sandwhich. The monkey bread was a little dry. The brown butter roll was great, I've never had one before but it was just the right amount of sweet. The ham and cheese crossiant was lacking. I enjoyed the sausage egg and cheese sandwhich, but I thought it was a little heavy.

I didn't not even need to review this place. Everyone before me has done the job already. The pastries are the very best. I grew up in Germany and my mother was Dutch. I ate traditional European fare growing up. I know what great bread is. THIS IS IT. I don't even like croissants. I really don't. These are amazing. The best tasting ones I have ever had. So flaky, so buttery and soooooooo damn good. The country sourdough bread is fantastic. I mean fantastic. I just put butter and some jelly on it. BAM. The best. It takes me right back to being 10 years old and having breakfast in Germany. The cookies are awesome as well. I haven't gotten past the oatmeal raisin ones. They are so good. I can't allow myself to buy another kind because I know how amazing these are. The crumb cake I had for the first time this weekend and it too was really good. Holy cow! I forgot about the granola. It is the best granola anywhere. Anyyyyyyyyyy where. I can not recommend this place more. You must try it.

    Meat selection

Wow, wow, WOW! Take one step inside, and you'll be in heaven. HEAVEN, I tell you! It was hard to know where to look first: the stunningly crafted and creative pastries or the beautiful carved, whole-animal meats. The delicious pastry selection was complemented by the patient, warm service we got. We told the gentleman it was our first time there, as he helped us sort through our difficult pastry selections, and he was kind enough to slip an extra Sourdough Baguette into our order as a "Welcome". Too kind. In terms of pasteries, we tried the chocolate croissant, the sausage roll (his self-proclaimed fav), a sourdough bagel, and a Swiss roll. Our fav was the chocolate croissant, but having lived most-recently in France, it's a dagger to the heart to pay $6 for one when we were getting them for $0.95. Now for the gorgeous meats. Again, we could have looked at the meats forever. They were beautiful cuts. We indulged in a Ribeye, which we prepared that day. It was delish as expected, though we paid for it! ($40/lb) I think). Perhaps most exciting, which we didn't have the chance to take advantage of that day is that apparently they have a daily sandwich they sell!! YUMM. The day we were there it was Chicken Salad Sandwich.

Evergreen is always packed!!! Came in at 8am and managed to join the queue. Everything is freshly baked using the best ingredients. My friend is gluten-free and their flour is so great it doesn't upset her! I got the sesame cookie and it was so crisp and soft on the inside. The sesame gave it some umami. But the pastries are perfectly flakey and all of them are so good. The staff is always in an amazing mood and are so kind (even helped me pick some new favorites)

I made the rookie mistake of visiting Evergreen Butcher + Baker on a Sunday (totally forgot it was Burger Day!) and ended up waiting in line in the cold for about 35 minutes. But honestly? Worth it. Their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit was hands-down one of the best I've ever had--flaky, flavorful, and just perfect. And the chocolate croissant? Pretty great, too. I might brave the Sunday line again just for those pastries. Evergreen has officially earned a spot as my new favorite in Kirkwood. Pro tip: bundle up if you're visiting on a weekend this winter, or get there early to beat the rush!

They not only have incredible fresh cuts of meats & fresh seafood but they have the best prepared meals. Chicken Parmesan is my favorite- so far. Lol. Everything is freshly made from scratch and packed up ready for your fridge or freezer. They have single portions & family size portions. Everything is excellent. They also have a vary nice wine selection, fresh seasonal veggies, & fresh breads. I tried the Mexican cornbread the other day and craved it ever since. Don't forget the Caesar salad/ dressing. So, if you love to eat great food and thinking about nice butcher cut, fresh seafood, or heating up the fruits of their labor- you can't go wrong. One other thing I noticed- groceries are really expensive and sometimes getting home to discover you only have ingredients makes it hard to budget. I found that these great meals helped me trim a dollars off stocking the fridge.
