Had some free time and invited the family to join me for some BBQ. Having lived in Austin, my standards are really high when it comes to the smoked protein. Lewis didn't disappoint! First when you enter, you have a chance to peruse the board to prepare yourself for the upcoming stations. The staff explained very really well and were all quite friendly. My daughter and I sampled the brisket and were sold with the juiciness. We got a chopped brisket sandwich, sliced brisket sandwich and hubby opted for the turkey sandwich. I ate here for the first time yesterday and I enjoyed my food. The food is pricey the way it's set up à la carte but I knew that going in. I spent about $40 for 4 sides, a sandwich and a drink to give you an idea. I like how all the sides are not made with meat so I was able to get an actual veggie for once at a BBQ spot since I don't eat beef or pork. However, they make their fries and chicken wings in beef tallow so there's that. The only entree I can actually eat is the smoked turkey sandwich as every other entree is beef or pork, but the sandwich was yummy Don't sleep on the Green Chile Corn Pudding either However, their setup is flawed. You come in and pick your sides first and then they slice your meats and everything down at the end, last of all. The meats take the longest so by the time I got to pick my meat, my sides had been scooped and sitting on my tray getting cold and lukewarm. So my sandwich was warm and my sides were not. This was kind of irritating and my daughter had already peeped this as we were standing in line waiting for our sandwiches with our sides on a tray getting cooler and cooler. The line was long and this will likely be the case a lot of the time so this doesn't work well. My daughter had a special order of beef taquitos that had to come out later so you know her sides were cold. When she requested new sides or to warm them up she was met with an attitude by one of the workers so that didn't go over well. This was weird to us because the food shoud be warm at the very least, so customer service was lacking there but they did honor her request. If they are going to keep this cafeteria line style setup, we all thought the meats and entrees should be first and then sides so as to avoid having lukewarm or cold sides because all four of us had cold sides by the time we sat down after getting get our drinks and sauces and stuff. And sides should come out together with the special orders so the food is not cold. But hey, I know I'm not Lewis, but yall got my two cents anyway Overall, we had delicious food in a nice, clean establishment. Honestly can't believe I waited this long to try this place but i did. Such a great casual spot with tons of seating. They do cafeteria style ordering down a line and you start free toppings so free pickles, pickled onion or raw onions. We did the pickles and pickled onion which were DELISH. We got the chips and queso as a starter which had these delicious thick tortilla chips and a DELICIOUS queso. For the entree we tried a bunch. We did el Sancho loco style which me and my friend agree the sausage and brisket are amazing (which they give you a taste of brisket while ordering!) but the pork was alright. Sandwich was great with all the sauce which I loved all of them but shoutout to the tangy and hatch chile sauce. We also tried the smoked wings which were SO tender and flavorful and sides of Mac and cheese and fries. I think the fries are nothing special but the Mac??? Amazing. This is the best barbecue in Atlanta now. I had the chopped brisket, Mac and cheese, and greens. I touched up the greens and Mac with hot sauce, but it was good without it as well. My lovely bride and I stopped in for lunch on the Fourth of July. The place was busy! We love their rack of ribs and their chopped brisket sandwiches. All of the sides are quite good, although the set up allows your sides to get cold while they prepare and serve your meat selection. The only disappointments were the cowboy beans (they were bland and slightly undercooked) and the green chile burger (the green chiles were not fresh and lacked flavor). The barbecue is delicious. The staff will walk you through the process. One tip: go for the fatty brisket not the lean. The wings are crispy and topped with a white sauce and lime. The collard greens and Mac and cheese make great sides. You will think the single is too small, it's not. You will be full, or at least I was. One of the best BBQ spots in ATL - I did a back to back brisket taste test with another highly rated spot (hint: it's korean fusion) and Lewis was far better in my opinion. More moist, better salted, and better flavor. My main critique with Lewis' brisket is that the texture is a little lacking. The brisket didn't necessarily hold together well when I started to cut it. It kinda just started to fall apart. The green chile corn pudding was alright - I wish it had more of a kick and a bit stronger flavor. For ATL, this is 5 star BBQ that is more along the lines of Texas style BBQ, but I think by Texas standards, this is mid/upper-mid range BBQ (still good by any means, but competition in Texas is tough). I took my order to-go and they packaged it very well! The meat was wrapped in parchment paper, and then wrapped again in saran wrap. All the sauces were labeled and we were given a plentiful amount of sauce. The OG sauce is good! Would recommend that one for sure. Despite my strong opinions, I would still return to Lewis to try more of their meats. It is, after all, probably the best BBQ in ATL and is the closest I can get to a taste of home. The green beans and collards weren't our favorite, both had a strong vinegar taste. But I'm not deducting any stars because the rest of the meal was that good! At one point they even noticed we needed a to-go box before we did. That kind of service deserves a slow clap. This was my third visit, and I already know it won't be my last. I found this place on Instagram and the minute I saw the food on the post, I was intrigued. Stopped here on a weekday with my husband to try their food. It's a casual restaurant and has plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. There's also plenty of parking in the large parking lot out front. When you walk in, you can see a menu board with all of their options and they also have a menu board with daily specials. They load up your tray with the sides you select and then you move down the line to select your meat options. The service was fast and the staff was very friendly, greeting us as soon as we walked in. They also gave us a sample of their sliced brisket. We were able to enjoy their chopped brisket with their complimentary pickles, onions, and pickled onions. The brisket is tender and very flavorful...melts in your mouth. For our sides, we had their cowboy beans, collard greens, and mac & cheese. We appreciated that their beans are vegetarian since some bbq places cook theirs with pork. All three sides were tasty. While downtown Atlanta, I decided to check out the new Lewis Barbecue at Ansley Mall. I arrived around 11:40 a.m., thinking I might beat the lunch rush. No such luck--but the line was only to the door and not yet outside, so I felt pretty fortunate. As you enter, menu boards are clearly posted along with the day's specials. Drinks are on ice while you wait in line, just like the great Texas BBQ joints. The first stop is choosing your sides (corn pudding and a hunk of cheese for me), along with complimentary pickles and onions if you want them. From there, you move down to the meat counter. The staff was friendly, happy to answer questions, and--since this was my first visit--kind enough to offer a sample. I ordered a brisket sandwich and was asked if I preferred lean or fatty. Naturally, I went with a little of both. The brisket absolutely lived up to the hype--some of the best I've ever had, if not the best. My only regret was visiting solo, which meant choosing carefully. Next time, I'm bringing others so we can sample more meats and sides. Two statements to preface my review: 1) I'm not from a BBQ state, so I'm completely unbiased, and 2) I spent August trying every BBQ place in Atlanta to help my friend choose a birthday party caterer. Now that admission is out of the way: Wow, this is the only place I want to get BBQ from now on. Within 2 weeks of opening, Lewis Barbecue has nailed service, food quality and an amazing experience. The menu is clear and easy, with a great range of meat and sides options (and more dishes to come soon). The line moves quickly; from door to counter took us 11 minutes on a Friday lunchtime. Every single worker we came into contact with was super friendly, and seemed to really love their job. We were handed samples of brisket, fries and turkey, as we walked through the line from sides to proteins to cashier. Everything is placed directly on a paper-lined tray, and if you're sharing then they give you an extra piece of the paper to put on the table. Sides are in compostable paper containers. Now to the dining area; there's ample indoor and outdoor seating, with several large tables with benches so multiple small groups of diners can share a larger space. There are no trash areas, but the servers clear as people leave, so tables are always clear and clean. Utensils, napkins and sauces are by the soda fountains. Look carefully at the silver urns on the counter to find the 4 sauce options. Spoiler alert: I loved the secret sauce best. Mustardy and zingy. The beef & cheese sandwich was amazing and great value. There had to be 6oz of shaved prime rib in there, and the pickles and queso gave it a perfect bite. The smoked turkey is my favorite of the proteins - it's firm, moist and has a perfect smoke. Sides-wise, the green beans stewed in tomato/vinegar were amazing. I don't love potato salad but Lewis' changed my mind; the skin-on red potatoes with green onions and celery in a mayo-based vinegar dressing had a great creamy crunch. I'm actually shocked that everything works so smoothly so soon after opening - and that just one meal has put Lewis Barbecue at the very top of my list for BBQ in Atlanta. I'll be back next week to try the ribs and mac & cheese, after our table-neighbors "mmmmm"'d their way through their order. Bottom line: Go. Queue. Eat the samples. The meat/BBQ was excellent. We tried the brisket sandwich and sliced lean brisket. The Cole Slaw was also amazing, but the beans were ok. I prefer more traditional sweet baked beans. The a la carte ordering/service style was a bit annoying. I wish there was a traditional plate option with some meat and sides. This seemed to make it more expensive. I'm writing this on opening day for the Atlanta outpost of Lewis Barbecue. This is the third location of this restaurant with the others in Greenville and the original in Charleston. I've only been to the Charleston location and this Atlanta location in the lunch rush by all indicators is going to do just fine if it can keep up with the high standards set by the original Lewis Barbecue. The line wrapped around the front and moved pretty quickly. Service was efficient and friendly with cold and hot sides offered first, then barbecue before being turned over to a cashier. It seems like the team has worked out their kinks ahead of opening day, so all the system awkwardness has been ironed out before today. I went solely with the sliced USDA prime beef brisket ($35/pound). It was absolutely perfect. Marbled, melt in your mouth goodness that you can cut effortlessly with a plastic fork and knife. The tallow fries and mac and cheese (each $5) were a nice accompaniment. The meal comes with dill pickles, pickled red onions, white onions and bread. There are daily specials at this location and what looks to be nachos and tacos with barbecue coming soon. I'm looking forward to sampling those on my return. But for opening day, a pitch perfect performance with food and service! read more

WOW!!! I have to admit that I didn't want to like this place. We have a couple BBQ places closer to where we live(within 10 min) that we really enjoy. And now there is LEWIS BBQ(about 25/30 min away). And it is going to be VERY hard not to go directly to visit LEWIS...so we will go back sooner than later. We arrived on a Friday around 12:15PM. The line was to the door(about 15 people in front of us. We had our food by 12:25PM. Not bad. By the time we got to the first station - The Cold Sides I turned around and the line was out of the door. The second station were The Hot Sides, and the third station were The Meat Cutters. Our minds were pretty made up before we ordered. However, when walking down the line a couple of things were added and/or changed. The Cold Sides - We had a big pile of pickled onions, and dill pickles both of which are complimentary. We added a side of coleslaw because it was pretty. It did have a lot of mayo which none of us were excited about but they added just enough vinegar to make it some of the best ever. The homemade dill pickles and the pickled onions were addictive. We all kept adding more to our plates. The Hot Sides - we planned on the Green Chili Corn Pudding but immediately changed to the Tallow Fried Fries aka Crispy Sidewinders. We almost fought over these. They were some of the best potatoes. The Meat Carvers - Stuck on our plan here. A half pound of Pulled Pork without sauce and a Chopped Brisket Sandwich. They gave us a taste of the brisket and our order almost changed. As I was watch meat carver add bbq sauce to my pulled pork I yelled...no, no, no. He then tried to retrieve some out of a pot and another carver had just added sauce on it also. Needless to say, I was not happy. I was determined not to like Lewis BBQ. Got to the table, retrieved our drinks and each of the bbq sauces that were offered. Sat down and tried the pulled pork. Tried it and to my amazement it was great. Now, not to say it might have even been better without the sauce(how I judge bbq - sauceless). Didn't taste the chopped brisket sandwich but was told it was the best in the city. I love beef brisket but not Chopped as sometimes it has too much fat. And like I said above the taste of brisket while in line was excellent. Service was great. Upbeat, positive employees. Yes, prices were a bit on the high side, but the quality of the food was better than most bbq joints. Highly recommend. And as much as I didn't want to like this place it is now my overall favorite...and we all agreed. read more

I ordered in advance a family, four pack for my family, I picked 1 pound of lean beef brisket and 1 pound of pork ribs, as well as sides of collard greens and coleslaw. The sides come in pint size container containers It also came with free pickled and vegetable vegetables which I like liked. The side dishes were enjoyed by the whole family. The family loved the ribs but were not as big a fan of the lean brisket. I think next time I will pick the moist brisket for them. I parked near the Publix and walked through the walkway to the back. Being from Charleston and dining at that location I was super excited for the Atlanta location to open. You can order as little or much meat as you like for they weigh it. They have bottled sodas and beer to side before ordering you can grab. You can help yourself to bbq sauce station along with the plasticware. The most popular side is the corn pudding casserole so it's a must. I ordered green beans, corn casserole, two slices of brisket and two ribs $40...I did get two meals from it though. We had heard that this place had great food, so off went on a Sunday. There was a line, but it moves quickly. I don't usually like how brisket is prepared- most places have so much pepper coating it, so I was going to order a few bones. The carver offered us a taste of the brisket- which my husband was going to get anyway, but OMG. It. Was. DELICIOUS. At the last minute, my husband also added a pound of ribs and a smoked side...and 1.5 lbs of brisket. It cane with two toasted buns. We ordered fries- big, twisty, tallow fried fries, and the husband got Mac & cheese and potato salad. Only the fries got eaten, but not both servings- we were stuffed. I had one slice of brisket, and I bite of ribs, and those amazing fries, and I was stuffed. Husband had a few slices of brisket, a rib, and fries. We had so much to bring home! You seat yourself after you go through the line and get your food. You get your own fountain drinks, and to-go boxes are available. It wasn't overly loud, and we were able to find a seat easily. Lewis Barbecue The brisket was the star -- absolutely loved it. I usually eat brisket plain, but adding the pickled onions, regular onions, and pickles took it to another level. The ribs were just okay. The sides weren't my favorite -- the mac and cheese and greens didn't really stand out to me. I really liked the assembly-line style setup. You start with the sides and then move down to the meat counter, which feels like having your own butcher. The person slicing the brisket even let me try a sample first, which was a nice touch. They also have a separate section that serves margaritas, which is a fun addition if you want to make it more of a vibe. It's located in a busy plaza, so parking is free -- but it can definitely get packed, especially on a nice day. The outdoor seating area is great when the weather is good. Soooo good! Seriously some of the best BBQ i've ever had & that says a lot. Every one working was very nice and helpful as well! Will definitely be recommending this place to people and returning frequently. The brisket btw was to die for! The location on the belt line is really nice too, so on a nice day you can sit in their patio then walk around. read more

Had an amazing meal here last week. Came in on a Tuesday around 6. It wasn't too crowded at that time, but quickly filled up! You order at the counter and go down the line to pick what you want. Then seat yourself. I got the pulled pork, Mac and cheese and corn casserole. It was all incredible! The pork melted in my mouth. The Mac and cheese was incredibly cheesy. And the corn casserole had a hint of heat but so so good! I will 100% come back! read more
