The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, perfect for a laid-back meal with friends or family. They're known for hearty subs, and the Philly cheesesteak, juicy, well-seasoned, and served on a generous roll that soaked up all the flavor beautifully. Portions are generous, so you definitely get your money's worth. I also tried the Pastalaya with chicken, which were flavorful with great seasoning and cooked perfectly. The Mad Italian is a quick-serve cafe with a patio which is known for cheesesteaks, hoagies and pastas served with beer and wine. We have tried their Pastalaya made of Diavolo and alfredo sauce blended with grilled chicken, shrimp, Italian sausage, onions and green peppers. I was worried because it is their take on Jambalaya, but it was a wonderful burst of flavor. Garlic bread was a complimentary with our dish. Steven was our server for the day. Plenty of free parking in and around the restaurant. The Mad Italian first opened in Atlanta way back in 1973 and they have been going strong in Chamblee, GA ever since 1981. Their original location in Chamblee closed within the past ten years or so and they have a pretty much brand new spot literally about two doors down on Savoy Drive. Fairly average Italian food, but it is perfect for an easy night out where you want to grab something to eat and sit on a patio. Sriracha honey wings were very good. Lasagna was average. My Philly-area born husband definitely votes for The Mad Italian as having the best cheesesteak in Atlanta! They also have a great gluten free pizza crust. The "Ghost" white pizza with spinach was delicious. Despite the crowds on a Saturday, our server was friendly and efficient. The hubs and I went specifically for the cheese steak. He read somewhere that this was a spot to visit for this. We pondered about the sizes and what to share. Of course he just went with the big daddy cheese steak because it's a 12 inch with extra meat. The sandwich didn't look at all that big as it was brought out, but looks were deceiving. Since there were lots of ruffle chips and a spear of pickle, the sandwich looked small. But the meat was loaded onto there. And after eating it for awhile, you can start to taste the saltiness. Yum. I like my cheese steak to be more on the simple side so this hit the perfect spot. There was only onion pieces and cheese on top aside from the monstrous amount of meat. The hubs also enjoyed it but preferred bell peppers, mushrooms, or the sort loaded on. The side of fettuccine alfredo was good. It was flavorful and tasted like what you would expect: creamy and buttery. I came here specifically for the cheese steak. I had to get the big daddy cheese steak because I was sharing with the wife. I had chips and ordered a side of fettuccine alfredo with it. Carbs on carbs. We were going to take a nap after this. The steak was simple. It had lots of meat and cheese. It was delicious but not the best cheese steak. It wasn't too salty but the meat itself didn't have a bite to it. I'm in strong opinion that cheese steak needs some other crap in it such as mushrooms or peppers but this was still very good. 4/5. The chips were were forgettable but the pickle that came with it was decent. The fettuccine Alfredo was flavorful enough but it needed a little more butter. 3/5 Would I come here again? Maybe. I have a few cheese steak places much closer to my place so I don't see my self commuting just to this place. read more

I had high hopes but was disappointed. Placed and order online and called to confirm. It was good I did because they said they didnt have any order. Thats could have been disastrous since i was ordering for a group gathering of 10. Went to pick up the food at my pick up time and ended up waiting 20 extra minutes. If you haven't been to The Mad Italian, you're missing out. We had the cheesesteak sub, spaghetti, cheesy bread, and the sweet Thai wings, and every bite was phenomenal. The cheesesteak was loaded with perfectly seasoned meat, the spaghetti was rich and flavorful, the cheesy bread was hot, buttery, and cheesy, and the sweet Thai wings were absolutely incredible--the perfect balance of sweet with just enough kick. The portions were generous, everything came out fresh and hot, and you can tell they take pride in the food they serve. It's not often that every single item on the table exceeds expectations, but The Mad Italian absolutely delivered. We'll definitely be back. Five stars! read more

I ordered a meatball sub and the pasta fagoli. The bread was perfect and I'm not a big bread fan. Excellent choice! It's tasty and withstands the abuse from the sauce. The sauce was fine. Nothing spectacular , but good enough. The meatballs had an odd burn type taste to them. I wouldn't order this again. The soup was pretty bland. I wouldn't get that again either. I have a collection of restaurants that I have on my want-to-try list and this one has been there for a while. I finally made it over there today and here are my thoughts: Food: I ordered a chicken cheesesteak. I asked for a different cheese selection and to have lettuce & tomato added to the sandwich. I also wanted a healthy side option and was offered either salad or broccoli (I chose the latter). I was a little surprised when the bill came with +$1 for lettuce, +$1 for tomato, and +$4 for broccoli. That was +$6 for a small sandwich that was already $12. They tasted great, but I can't recommend it for the price tag. Service: No major issues outside of not being informed of the hefty up charges. Ambiance: It's got an old-fashioned feel inside with antique signs and Italian flag decor. Plenty of tables and would perhaps work with small groups as they have a small section of seating that is separated from the main dining area. But... while there is plenty of space inside, parking was a problem. We had to circle twice to get a spot at lunch time. read more

Daughter & I split the 8" Philly Cheesesteak, it had plenty of meat and the bread was delicious and it was a definite hit with both of us. The restaurant split for us and brought on separate plates with our own pickle and chips without us asking which was a definite plus and greatly appreciated. I was with a party of 12 sitting in the Banquet Room and we had a late guest arrive and I waked to the POS system to ask her to add an unsweet tea to out table and she snapped at me. Then when the food was delivered my friend was looking for the server to ask for oil and vinegar dressing - she was busy with other customers, so I walked to the counter where the condiments were kept and got the dressing for our table. Speaking of the sauce: completely average. Not offensive, but not good either. It tasted like someone opened a jar of the cheapest grocery store marinara and called it a day. The meatballs were equally underwhelming. They had that unmistakable store-bought taste--uniform texture, zero depth, and a faintly metallic aftertaste. The one saving grace could've been the cheese, but they barely used any. A slice of something that melted into invisibility. For $16, this should've been a knockout--a sandwich you crave and tell friends about. Instead, it was a struggle to finish and honestly, barely edible. My mom had a craving for cheesesteaks, so we decided to visit Mad Italian. I used to frequent this spot when I lived in the area, but it's been a while since I've been back. I ordered the regular Philly cheesesteak, and they offer two versions: the regular and an upgraded one. I also grabbed an order of lemon pepper wings. The wings were decent--fried hard, just the way my mom likes them, and full of flavor. The Philly cheesesteak was decent, but I probably should have gone for the upgraded version. I came in randomly because I was in the area. Indoor and outdoor seating. Full bar but a lot of beer on tap. Cheese steak and onion rings. So I don't work too far from here so I decide to stop in. It's a lot bigger than you would think on the inside and I do have spaces on the outside as far as the patio goes so there really is a lot of seating there. You can definitely take a larger party here and be comfortable. Soon as I walked in they stop me to my table, but as if it wants it at the bar so they at least gave me the option. They were for the friendly and they explain the menu to me and their favorites when I said out so I thought that was really cool as far as customer service goes. It's not a full bar like as in a club style setting, but they have enough liquor if you need alcohol. But they have a lot of beer taps they are so if you are a beer drinker, this may be more your bag. On my first trip there I got a cheese steak and onion rings. Just wanted to see if they could do the basic, and I wasn't unhappy at all. On The next trip there I ended up getting a chicken cheesesteak and some cheese bread. The regular cheese steak, which I got was 10 in, was very good and very flavorful. You didn't need to do a whole lot to it, because it came already good to go. The bread was warm and a meat was hot. The onion rings the first time I went were really really good. I dip them in their gold barbecue sauce and it was damn good. The next time and when I got the chicken cheesesteak in this one was good but the bread kind of took it down a little bit. The bread at the bottom was falling apart for the most part so you couldn't even have it as a hoagie type sandwich anymore. I ended up having to get a fork and eat it out of the tray because it wouldn't stay in the bread anymore. I don't know if it had been sitting longer than needed, but it had the feeling that the meat soaked through the bread. But I will say that chicken was damn good though. The chicken was flavored really well even though it wasn't in a sandwich, it really got me together. Because I don't work too far I would probably still go to the Matt Italian. Their prices are decent, and the food is something that'll definitely keep you full and you won't be hungry! read more

From refills of your drinks to checking in on you just enough. The staff there is great. As for the ambiance, very inviting, casual and family friendly feel. I fell in love with Mad Italian when they were at Lenox Square Mall and served you a nice full hoagie with chips in a cardboard box. Then I frequented the Peachtree Rd location for years when I lived in Buckhead. However, the hoagies are not nearly what they used to be, apparently being a victim of ingredient shrinkflation and price inflation like most everything else. The old version had about as much meat in it as today's "Big Daddy". $14 is overpriced for what you get these days. Even the hoagie at the old Savoy location seemed to have more meat. Additionally, if you want provolone cheese on your sandwich, like God intended, you have to pay extra. You can get a Philly the same size as the "Big Daddy" at a local mall for $13 and it has provolone without charging extra! I'll still come by on occasion to satisfy my cravings, but not near as much as I did back in the glory days. read more

Sooo came here because we tried there Philly cheesesteak at the Chamblee Food Festival a few weeks back and it was amazing! Glad to say it was still amazing at the restaurant. My wife enjoyed her wings, but the "hot" flavor they have isn't hot at all. To be honest a hot Cheeto is hotter than their hot flavor, but still good! The onion rings were phenomenal! The onions were big and the batter had tons of flavor. Super crispy and enough for the table. The jalapeño ranch that went with it however was trash. Doesn't need it nor does it compliment the onion ring. The F*** Covid beer from Scofflaw wasn't my cup of tea, but hey it's beer. You like some, you hate some lol Now the tater tots tasted like straight burnt fryer oil. So we didn't eat them. The fries were the star of the meal! Super peppery, crispy, PACKED with flavor.
