Took the family to Avellino's for dinner last night and luckily got a table inside, arriving at 6:30 on a Saturday! It's time to double down on my feelings about Avellino's. As I said in my first review, I was likely going to make Avellino's my go to. Well I have and it still is. I have been with friends and family dozens of times. There has not been a single misstep. Seriously...not once. Even if you show up and order a few pizzas to go without calling ahead, you will be amazed at how well you are taken care of, and how quick and delicious the food is. The pizza is always fast, fresh and amazing. The salads are solid. My daughter is a huge fan of pasta dishes and is always happy with what she chooses. I recently tried the Tiramisu and OMG. Might be the best I have ever had. I'm guessing they source it from somewhere else, but it's just divine. It's usually pretty busy. They are only open 4pm and after and closed Mondays so I guess people flock to it when it's open. It's such a perfect neighborhood spot. It is a shining star in the Brookhaven community. Diana is usually there running the front of the house (or maybe front and back...not sure), but she does a fantastic job every single day. If you live in Brookhaven, you likely already know what a gem Avellino's is. If not, you are missing out. If you are from outside Brookhaven, but happen to be in the area after 4pm...just go. This is a small pizza spot located in a neighborhood which is nice to see families walk over there. They have both indoor and outdoor seating with a bar. The staff is very friendly when you walk in even on a busy day which typically can be overlooked at many restaurants when they're so busy. I ordered to-go . The Meatballs were solid in flavor while the sauce was a bit too thin for my taste but I mixed it with the Alfado sauce and it really took it there . Unfortunately I was extremely disappointed with the "FOCACCIA FRESH BAKED BREAD" I feel like it really should have been specified that's it's rolled out pizza dough with "V..O.O AND HERBS" when you read Foccaccia bread you assume it's thick and spongy bread not thin and flat pizza crust . Besides that I'd def try more things on the menu in the future I'd recommend updating their menu on the website to specify that or at least add a photo for that idea so we're aware that's what we're going to get . If I could give this place -10 stars, I would. I have never in my life been disrespected, bullied, and publicly humiliated by a waitress the way we were here. They have a mentally ill bipolar lune working at this restaurant -- seriously BEWARE. It was the weirdest, most unhinged dining experience I've ever had. We walked in all happy and smiling. The hostess told us to sit anywhere (it's a tiny place -- about five tables and bar seating). After sitting, the hostess asked if we'd like any drinks and we said we usually order with the food thank you. Then two seconds later, the wacko waitress came by and asked the same thing and we gently reiterated. When we asked simple, reasonable questions about substitutions for dietary restrictions and how many toppings came with the "make your own pizza," the waitress responded in a stern, condescending tone. She repeatedly acted as if she couldn't hear or understand us, forcing us to repeat ourselves several times despite all of us speaking audibly. Which of course we brushed off at the time because we were trying to enjoy our time and unwind and be friendly. In hindsight that should have been the first red flag. Her demeanor the entire time was cold, irritated, and unwelcoming (rolling her eyes) -- as if our presence offended her. It felt bizarre. Food-wise: Let's just say that chicken plate didn't taste good at all. Very bad quality pasta. Then the pizzas came and they were chewy/soggy and too expensive for the subpar quality. Even so, we made zero complaints and told her it tasted good when she asked. After she angrily cleared our plates, she attempted to push the check despite knowing in advance we planned to order dessert. When one of us started off the order with an americano, she snapped. She kept saying "what? Huhhh?" "affogato?" "what are you saying?" in an impatient, mocking, disrespectful tone, making him repeat himself about five times. When she finally DECIDED to understand, she rudely waved her hand dismissively, said we'd have to wait for the coffee barista who's busy, and tried to WALK AWAY without listening to the rest of the order...When we gently asked her to please be respectful and hear the full order, she became even more irate. She reluctantly took the order and went to the bar, then started CRYING a few minutes later and pointed at us, and began insulting us to other patrons!!! Completely unhinged behavior. Not only did we endure her repeated disrespect and abuse the ENTIRE time we were there, but then she decided to involve other patrons and manipulated the situation to make it seem like we were the problem when the complete opposite was obviously true! Guests began turning around and staring at us because of her unhinged, attention-seeking theatrics and deliberate attempt to create a scene. That was the final straw. We immediately canceled dessert and asked for the manager. The manager was very apologetic -- and shockingly admitted this wacko is usually emotionally unstable and that this has happened multiple times before!!! SO WHY ON EARTH IS SHE STILL EMPLOYED AND ALLOWED TO HARASS AND ABUSE CUSTOMERS???? UNACCEPTABLE!!!! read more

It's been a few years since I've been to Avellino's and I don't know if the quality has declined or my taste has become more refined. I had bruschetta and bolognese, along with a soda water since they didn't have ginger ale. The bruschetta was not good. I was expecting toasted baguette type bread with fresh tomato. Instead I got what I suppose was sort of a flat bread or pita with almost a tomato paste and balsamic vinegar, extremely sweet with no depth of flavor and an unpleasant texture. The bolognese was fine, but nothing special. I probably make a better tomato sauce at home out of mostly canned ingredients. Maybe I'll try to get some ground pork and ground veal in the future to see if that steps things up over ground chuck. Regardless, not worth anywhere near $18.00 - the serving size was definitely only a single sitting's worth, which is not something one expects from an Italian place. The service was fine, no complaints there. When I was told they didn't have ginger ale, I was offered soda water at no cost. We didn't stay long enough for a refill. We decided, based on food quality, to get dessert elsewhere. The place is small and noisy. The Georgia Bulldogs (vs Tennessee) game was on so plenty of people were sitting at the bar. Parking was barely adequate, and the only other shop in this small center is a dry cleaner - closed when we came. I used to live in the neighborhood and remembered the place being good. Here's what we got: - Burrata ($12.50): Good, but probably not worth $12.50. - Eggplant Parmigiana ($16.50): Average, especially for the price. I've definitely had better in the Atlanta area. Came with a side salad which was literally lettuce and tomatoes. At least give me some cucumbers, maybe even some onions. - Create a Pizza with mushrooms & pineapple ($12.50 + $2 for toppings): The sauce was super good and sweet. We've been in Brookhaven for almost little over 2 years and only just now made it to Avellino's. This is a Brookhaven treasure. Limited seating, but delicious! This is a quintessential neighborhood, local, Italian restaurant that reminds of the independent restaurants I grew up with across the boroughs of NYC, that served a great meal. They do what they do, and they do it really well. Nice apps, fresh salads with fresh ingredients and crunch, tasty pizzas and pastas. Cold beer on draft and a really solid wine list for a cozy restaurant. The service is attentive, friendly and local. Took the kids for lunch and decided to check out @avellinospizzaria . The weather was terrible but the had covered outside seating so we decided to sit outside . The waiter was very nice and patient. Now to the food I honestly forgot to take a lot of pictures because we had kids and it was a day lol but here we go Garlic Bread - was very good super cheesy and easy to eat Bruschetta- jammed packed with tomatoes I enjoyed it but definitely an overwhelmingly amount of tomatoes. Isolana pizza - was good the smoked pancetta made the pizza a little too salty and threw it off for me but the crust was perfectly made My friend got a cheese pizza with sausage and the sausage tasted a little off to her . My kids got there normal half cheese half pepperoni and they enjoyed it I think my favorite part we're the cannolis. Over all it's a good place for a quick pizza stay away from the saltier toppings it will ruin it . But great place overall. Food - 5 big ole stars. That garlic cheesy bread is what dreams are made of. Seriously everything you could ever want in a plate. The bread is lite but crispy and the cheese oh so gooey. We also got the Caesar salad which had great flavor (though the large size was pretty small) and a pizza which was great. Deducting a star for service. It was a Wednesday night but this place was popping. It is very small inside (probably 7 tables max plus a bar area) and it took at least 15 minutes for us to be acknowledged. You could tell they were in over their heads because servers literally just wouldn't make eye contact with us and there was a growing number of people waiting for a seat. It was so loud inside you pretty much had to scream to hear your friend across the table. If weather permits I'd recommend outdoor seating or getting your food to go. This is our friends favorite pizza place so he invited us to try it. It was a bit of a hike as we live in Midtown but worth it. We started with some appetizers and then we ordered the pizza and wine combo three times. The combo comes with one pizza and a wine bottle for $40. Totally worth it. It was six of us and we drank all three bottles. The pizzas are sized that you can share with someone or have one by yourself. You may not finish it but leftovers are always good. Came here for our ultimate cheat meal. The place was packed. The outdoor seating was very close to one another. So when there are large dogs sitting out with others eating and petting their companions while the wind is blowing and others are trying to eat, it's not a great combination. Garlic butter bread was amazing. Pizza was good. Ravioli fritte was good, it was forgotten and given after we got our pizza but good nonetheless. After it was stated the dishes were dirty and we requested new ones, the waitresses mood shifted and never gave us clean plates. Cannoli's we're great, even though pre-made. The service was excellent. Jessie our waitress was top notch. She was very quick, nice, and always made sure we had everything. Avellinos offers pizzas, pastas, salads, wine, beer, and desserts such as canolis! I had the Greca pizza which was very good, but had started with the fried ravioli which was amazing. My partner had the spaghetti which she said she'd have again! So, assuming that was great as well. Expect to spend about $40-50 here with tip for 2 people. I preferred the Isolata over the Molta Carne, but they were both enjoyable! We sat outside in their heated patio section, which was nice! We were in the area late on a Sunday afternoon and wanted to eat on our way home. The building where this is located is shared with (I think) a dry cleaners. Parking is adequate but not expansive. They are located in the middle of neighborhoods with large-house infill. It seemed out of place somewhat, but would be a nice gathering spot for a neighborhood. The space is somewhat deep/narrow. There are tables along one wall and a bar/counter opposite. I think they had at least one TV over the bar. Patrons seemed like a mix of people getting take-out, families with young-ish kids (some loud) and middle-aged moms in tennis outfits. They seemed quite buys and there was at least a short wait for tables by the time we left. They also have a few patio tables with shade-umbrellas out front, but it was quite hot the day we were there. The menu had a decent selection. Neither of us were in the mood for pizza. I got a pasta dish which I thought was good. I don't recall what my wife ordered, but she wasn't as enthused about her entree. I'm not sure that we'd likely be in this area again looking for a new dinner venue. However, if you are looking for a small neighborhood place, this is worth considering. read more

I've been to a lot of pizza joints in my day, and probably more Italian delis and bakeries than I can recall. From New York to San Francisco...from Chicago to Miami...and even from Venezia to Palermo, I've been fortunate enough to experience some really wonderful Italian cuisine. I was in the area over the weekend visiting family who recently relocated to Chamblee. While watching college football we were all looking for an alternative to the chain pizza joints on Saturday night and I turned to Yelp for some suggestions. I didn't want anything "fancy", but I wanted quality. Avellino's seemed to be a winner, but I feel like this the first time I've been lead astray by my fellow Yelpers. After ordering a medium Greca, a medium Margharita (with red sauce) and some Canolis I headed off to pick it up from the Brookhaven location. I'll take responsibility for not checking the order before I left. But, when I got back to the house I was surprised to see a small Greca and a small Vegetariana in the boxes. Also, when I saw the teeny tiny canolis, I was left wondering if someone was playing a joke on me. Unfortunately, the only joke was the quality of the food. The pizza crust was too chewy for consumption on the edges. And, even though my order was wrong, they still forgot to put any basil on the Vegetariana. In fact, the only flavor profile any of us could taste in that pizza was the mushroom. In addition, the canolis weren't fit for consumption. I took one bite and all I tasted was old cooking oil and powdered sugar, with a gritty tasteless filling. It was as if the shells had been fried a week ago and the oil had been used for a week before that. In all of my travels I've come to believe that any Italian local (in the USA) should be able to nail a basic Canoli and three main entré staples: Red Sauce, Meatballs and Pizza. Of these four, they've missed the mark on at least two, and I didn't try their meatballs or red sauce (thanks to a mix up in my order), so those may be duds as well. In all, this place seems to be a bar, with a sad excuse for a pizza joint and Italian kitchen added simply to justify the Italian name. They may have a wood fired, brick oven, but you'd be better off burning your money in an outdoor fire pit than spending it here. Undoubtedly, Atlanta has some great restaurants to choose from; Avellino's, however, certainly is not one of them. read more

WOW incredible Italian cuisine! You can tell that diners come back again and again because so many are on a first name basis with the friendly servers and bartenders. Very busy place!! Lots of take out orders too! We had delicious salads followed by SPO Pizza, Bolognese and Chicken Parmesan. The SPO Pizza was perfect, and those little red roasted peppers added such depth, it set the bar way up high. The Bolognese was served hot and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Only complaint, I wish our server had mentioned there was not any bread served alongside to mop up the yummy sauce. Chicken Parm was, as my son said, probably the best he's ever had (again, wished for just one piece of bread). Rosé from Italy was crisp and hit the spot too. We ordered cheesecake and limoncello cake to go... surely these are killer good. I'll add more later. The place was buzzing with diners and very friendly staff. This is our neighborhood pizza joint and we have frequented it often with our two young kids and they have usually been super accommodating and helpful. We took our visiting family from out of town here today and had a conflicting experience and one that soured my experience. We entered and asked how long the wait was and was told about 30 min and were told we would need 2 tables since we had 8 people, at that point we were the only party waiting but since we had 4 kids with us we decided to order to go. Shortly after we made the order a table opened up so we decided to take it, again we were the only party waiting. The younger blonde waitress that was helping us was from the get go very rude. She told my 3 yr old to not hold her cup too too tight because it would spill? Like what?! We initially had 6 of us and the kids sitting at the one table, while 2 of us waiting by the bar. About 5 min into us being seated another table opened up so my sister in law asked the young waitress if we could take it. The young waitress told her to take a 2 person hightop. Since our kids were young my sister in law insisted on the second large table so we had enough space to eat, at this point the waitress huffed, rolled her eyes and walked away. Extremely rude. She also failed to bring me the drink I ordered. We ended up eating at both the tables and as soon as we were done cleared up and consolidated to one table since there were now 2 parties that had showed up and were waiting. I will say we had an older blonde waitress with a hat that helped the second half of the meal and she was very kind and helpful, so this saved the experience but the younger waitress was the opposite of courteous. Not sure if it was because we had kids? They were busy and she was stressed? We were not caucasian and everyone else was? Either way poor showing and I won't be returning to eat here, plenty of good family friendly pizza joints around the area. Do better Avellino's! read more
