Fried Green Tomatoes
Renee P.

Stopped in for a lunch. The service was great, we were seated immediately the server was prompt and friendly. We ordered the fried green tomatoes and deviled eggs for appetizers and we got the fried Brussels sprouts salad, hot chicken and salmon BLT for an entrees. Everything was delish. The star of the show was the fried green tomatoes and the fried Brussels the hot chicken was also delish. In all I would go back to try some more items.

Mushroom Toast

Blackened Tuna Seared to rare perfection, this dish was a visual stunner and flavor bomb. The crust on the tuna had the perfect smoky char, while the castelvetrano olive sauce underneath added this briny, creamy pop that tied everything together. The tapenade on top brought texture and just the right amount of tang. Easily one of the best tuna dishes I've had in recent memory. Mushroom Toast If you're a fan of earthy, umami-rich bites -- this one's for you. The semolina bread was crispy on the outside, soft inside, and held up beautifully under the layer of goat cheese and sautéed mushrooms. Add fried capers and peppery arugula, and you've got this amazing mix of creamy, salty, crunchy, and fresh. A vegetarian dish that doesn't feel like a compromise. Chicken Wings I was not prepared for how addictive these would be. The garlic-honey sriracha sauce hits every corner of your mouth -- sweet, spicy, garlicky -- and it sticks (in the best way). The crispy garlic on top? Genius. Dunk them in the house ranch and chase with a celery stick -- classic with a twist, and totally worth getting messy for. Service was relaxed but attentive, the patio had a great vibe, and every plate that passed us looked just as good as ours. Already planning our return visit.

SB Burger with side mac n cheese and side buffalo cauliflower

Second time visiting southbound and can only say good things!! This time I went for lunch (which had a different menu than the dinner menu) and got the burger with mac and cheese and buffalo cauliflower. Food was amazing and came out quick! Sodas were also served from glass bottles which were unique! We sat outside on the patio and despite being the only people out there our server was very attentive! Inside was also super cute and rustic. Definitely recommend to anyone looking for good southern comfort food.

Mac n cheese and kale salad

Enjoyed a nice date night dinner at southbound and would definitely recommend it as a lowkey spot in downtown Chamblee! If you're a big coffee drinker, southbound turns into moonbird in the morning, which I would highly recommend too as a cafe! At night they become a southern restaurant with a lot of classic southern options on their menu. We started with the deviled eggs and I thought they were pretty decent for deviled eggs but it's usually not my favorite thing. I had the Chamblee hot chicken with Mac n cheese and kale salad for my meal and Alex had bbq with a side of Mac n cheese and fries. Out of the two mains, I thought the bbq was just ok and the sauce was kinda weird so I wouldn't recommend that, but the hot chicken was PHENOMENAL!!!! The Szechuan peppers add such a good heat and taste to it, the chicken is perfectly breaded and fried, and the sauce that goes with it is fantastic! The Mac and kale salad were also pretty decent sides too! Overall I think i would have been a little disappointed if I had gotten the brisket, so do yourself a favor and get the hot chicken when you come!!!

Live music.

Was here on a Tuesday night where there was some live music. Sat at the bar with a good view and listening ear. The bartender was very friendly and fairly attentive-- definitely left us to our conversation as well. We ordered wine and a few appetizers. Funny, we asked the bartender what he recommended, and he literally recommended every appetizer. When he left, we said to each other, "Did he did recommend them all?" So that wasn't helpful. We ordered the beet "mousse" salad and fish tacos. They weren't that good. Tasted weird, not a lot of flavor. The beets were the best part, but they had so few beets served with mounds of this "mousse." I don't remember anything but a few tasty bites of beet and a lot of sweet sweet cheesy- Cool whip like stuff. The fish tacos just tasted like corn torillas. They were beyond bland and I don't think had any sauce or binding. They just crumbled into cardboard tasteless nothingness. Not much going on at the bar or in the restaurant. No real manager presence. Sort of felt like being at a party you weren't invited to. When we left, the host barely looked up and clearly could have cared less about being there. Strange vibe.

Meat and two. Ordered brisket, collard greens and Brussels. They brought two collards. Yummy!

This place is a gem! Unfortunately my photo doesn't do the food justice. I only have very minor criticisms about this place. The ambiance is good. It's slightly louder than I prefer, but that's a pretty minor inconvenience. The place is busy. Get there early, late or be prepared to wait. Hey, that rhymes . The tables were all booked when I was there so I sat at the bar. I order a whiskey and coke. It was delicious and well poured. Afterwards, they gave me the left over canned coke. That was great for me as I had a decent drive home. I ordered the brisket, with collard greens and Brussels. Well, they forgot my Brussels, but the bar tender instantly noticed and had them brought for me. The Brussels were my lowlight. They should have been cut thinner. They were so large that they were very bland in the middle. The collards were magnificent. They were cooked in a tomato broth of some sorts. I've never had collards like this. As a collard fan, I was thoroughly satisfied. The brisket was the star though! This is 5 brisket! It's amazing! Most places I go, I can cook better brisket than they do. This place blows my brisket skills away! Wow! Only issue I have with the brisket is the size for the price ratio. Service: magnificent! I think I lucked at by sitting at the bar. The lady that waited on me was just 5. Excellent service, good conversation and a amazing experience. I was so satisfied I put in an order to go. Same as my first order, but with the garlic potatoes. They were good, but the garlic was under cooked. I love garlic, but under cooked garlic isn't my fav. I urge you to try this place. Pretty sure you'll like it. If you don't, I would assume your tastebuds are dead.

Parking was easy. Sat immediately on Friday night, choice of patio and interior seating. Servers were attentive and food service was quick. I chose the grilled cauliflower after being recommended by my server. I enjoyed it. There were lots of dishes that I wanted to try will be back.

Man. The food here went beyond expectations. Our server Theresa was kind, attentive, and every recommendation made was beyond 5 stars. Definitely will be back!

Wish I could rate 6!! The outdoor seating was gorgeous and the drinks came out almost immediately. The food was fairly priced and portioned very well. Highlights were the brussel sprouts, brisket and lemon cheesecake. The servers were all very kind and quick. 10/10 experience, excited to come again!

Meat & 2 Plate- Meat was kind of dry and bland

Walked in early for my reservation so I sat at the bar and had a drink. I saw Eric the bartender put so much time and effort into a drink, . The Bar is legit however The food was just ok for me, here's what I had: Deviled eggs- probably the best thing I had, delicious! 5 stars Southern Ramen- this one lacked in flavor for me. I was excited when I ordered it, disappointed when I tasted it. 3 of 5 stars Wild Georgia Shrimp- this was was good, decent flavor in this dish 4 of 5 stars Meat and 2 with pulled pork- I'm a bbq fan and the pulled pork pork disappointed big time. Again, bland meat. The Mac and cheese also fell flat. 2 of 5 stars on this dish Overall great atmosphere, the food was just ok for me.

Glob of fat.
Rose S.

Our family really wanted to like this restaurant as the Yelp pictures looked great; however, it wasn't meant to be. We love the menu items at Hopstix. When we noticed that Southbound was nearby, we decided to give it a try. We ordered the BBQ beef rib entree, to see how their food held up. Sadly, the beef rib was all globs of gelatinous fat with only a few bites of tough meat. The few bites of meat were stuck in between the globs of fat. It was not convenient to bring our "to-go" order back and speak with the hostess so we chalked it up to "Tried it, disappointed, won't return." The restaurant may need to speak with their meat vendor if this is what they're serving to potential loyal customers.

The food and service at Southbound were very good. It's in an old storefront building in Chamblee. Will definitely go back.

I opted to park at the Wal-Mart and wasn't as familiar with the trail so I took the street route. Well-light and populated for safe crossing. The venue is very open and was relatively empty since we arrived shortly after it opened. I love the indoor seating concept with plenty of couches, movable chairs, tables near the open-area space and smaller sections for 2-4 people tucked away along the wall. The DJ was already doing his thing and the bartenders remained busy. As someone who wasn't interested in the drinks, I appreciate that there was a self-serve water cooler in the center of the room. The Jenga and jumbo Uno cards were a hit!!!! It was so nice to have these options available. And as others mentioned, the large screen was playing a classic movie - which we could still see from inside. I didn't stay long and this was a Sunday night but the parking lot was much busier when I left. I imagine the outdoor space gets crowded later in the evening as well. The DJ was just okay - not my cup of tea - but folks seemed to be enjoying themselves. I can definitely see why this place is popular. Although parking is less than desirable, it is not unreasonable. The venue is well-lit and easy to move around. The crowd was diverse, with various ages and backgrounds represented. And depending on the DJ, this would be a great place for meeting with friends, date night or just zoning out to some wonderful music ... especially on a beautiful night. If you're in the mood for something different AND don't mind the trek to Chamblee, check it out.

The second I saw it, I didn't care about the price -- I knew I wanted it, so I planned us a date night. When we arrived, there was a birthday party going on, and I asked the maître d' if they were limiting seating because of the event. He didn't quite understand me, so my fiancée just asked for a table for two, and we were seated quickly. The setup was nice, although I'm personally not a fan of pre-set plates and glasses on tables (you never know how long they've been sitting there). Still, our server was fantastic -- attentive, helpful, and made the night smooth. We came for the famous Piraye Kebab Tray. At first, we were looking at the $165 option (Chef Tray + 1 Meze Board + Shepherd Salad + 4 Orders of Piraye Kebab with rice, all baked inside the dough). When we mentioned the price, our server kindly told us about the smaller 2-order option for $85 -- perfect! And let me tell you, Lord above, when I say I would do some things to eat this food again... words cannot describe how incredible it was. It has been three days since, and I'm still thinking about it. I even posted it on my stories, and over 10 people have messaged me asking about it. Chef Tray: Overflowing with juicy, flavorful meat, perfectly seasoned rice with chickpeas (I swear it was made with veal stock), and that roasted pepper and cheese-stuffed dough on top -- divine. Meze Board: The hummus was creamy and rich, paired perfectly with fresh pita. Shepherd Salad: Fresh, crisp, and balanced. My only small regret was that our server misunderstood when we asked for the dough crust to-go -- I realized the next day it wasn't packed up. Honestly though, I couldn't even be upset, because the food was just that good. For drinks and dessert: Turkish Coffee - small but strong, beautifully presented with a piece of Turkish delight on the side that was everything I had ever imagined a Turkish sweet to be: chewy, fragrant, and delicately sweet. Künefe - a dream come true! A warm, crunchy pastry with gooey melted cheese inside, topped with sweet syrup and pistachios. It was rich, nutty, and sweet without being overwhelming -- the perfect ending. Turkish Martini - decent, but not nearly as memorable as the food. All together, including tip, it was about $140. For the amount and quality of food, the attentive service, and the one-of-a-kind experience, it was absolutely worth every single cent. Piraye Kitchen isn't just dinner -- it's an experience. This is a must-try-before-you-die type of place. Oh, and happy birthday, Amy!

The manager told them "yes, we will have a room in 5 minutes" so the rest of our group showed up excited and ready to karaoke. We waiting patiently 10-15 minutes and the manager came by again with "I'm sorry but someone messed up reservations and we won't have a room until 10pm". It was 9:44 pm at this point. The manager could tell we were about to leave and she comes back and says "oh good news, this group is checking out now. I'll have a room ready in 10 minutes". 2 from our group couldn't wait longer so they left. The rest of us decided to wait and got 2 bottles of Soju. It's $15 a bottle and THEY WILL CHARGE YOU A NON OPTIONAL GRATUITY so keep that in mind if you want to leave a tip, it's additional. Our total for the soju ended up averaging $20 a bottle. I asked the manager at 10pm what's going on and she just cuts me off and keeps walking with a "hold on". 10:15pm rolls around and the manager was no where to be seen. At this point we have been waiting 45 minutes with no updates when the original wait quote was FIVE minutes. We saw 3-4 parties come in and get seated. I'm not sure what kind of business they're trying to run but we sure felt BAMBOOZLED out of $50 for 2 bottles of soju and wasted 45 minutes of our time. They clearly have to figure out their scheduling/reservation system if the staff are making multiple errors. Don't lie to patrons that you have a room available when you don't. This felt like the equivalent of an overbooked/oversold flight and they were hoping they could get more clients to cover no shows- at least be honest and say we were on a waitlist.
