Juicy beets with the creamy light possible goat cheese on the plate going so well with the arugula and the crunchy nuts . Perfect for my blood pressure!! Cuban needs a little work maybe less smoke, collards were fantastic love the fact that they were vegetarian not over, salted and done with tomato. The acidity made them perfect. Being that I'm always at work, me and the ole lady decided to be spontaneous and try a new spot, of course we looked on Yelp and found this place. We walked in and got hit instantly with the laid back ambiance, which is a must need for me! We felt like getting on drink on so we headed straight to the bar, there we met our bartender Caleb. Had another great meal at Southbound. We were kidless for about an hour and a half Friday night so decided to do an impromptu date night. We grabbed two seated at the bar and really enjoyed the service from our bartender. Came in on Friday with my fiancé and his parents to celebrate some birthdays. We made a reservation for 6pm. I'd suggest a res, especially on a Friday or weekend! I love the aesthetic of the inside of the restaurant. They have a great bar and lots of tables. Our waitress came over immediately to take our drink orders. They have a great menu! We started with the pimento grit fritters - so good! Crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. I got the meat and two plate with pulled pork, Mac and cheese and coleslaw. The Mac and cheese wasn't my favorite ever, but it was good. I'd love to come back to try more of the appetizers and entrees! Had a great group lunch at Southbound. A hidden gem in Chamblee close to the interstate and an easy drive from central Atlanta. The restaurant specializes in unfussy southern fare done right. Service is great, and the restaurant was popular for lunch. The table enjoyed so many items! Pimento cheese, fried Brussels, Brussel sprout salads, fried chicken salad(a bit too much paprika), fried green tomatoes(delicious!), salad with salmon added, French fries, and more. No one was upset with their meal! Only complaint if any is that it was hard to hear at times. If you need a quiet place for a group discussion may want to ask if they have such spaces available first. Also this place is baby and family friendly. read more

It has been a bit since we have been there, and we were incredibly disappointed. Our dinner was terrible. Sadly, the pimento cheese app has changed, and not for the better. The tortilla chips were stale and the melted pimento cheese had no flavor. The friend green tomatoes were ok, not a fan of the pineapple. My chicken friend chicken was cold and the sauce did t have much flavor. The chili relleno burger had a dried patty and lacked any punch-friend were cold and also not good. Our server was super sweet but she had so many table. The one star is because my drink was pretty good. We have been coming to Southbound for a few years, and we appreciate the unique upscale southern food. If you're thinking about coming to this restaurant, do yourself a favor and get the pimento cheese. It's the best in Atlanta. It comes with a tomato chutney and a bacon jam that are both perfect compliments. Another great appetizer is the wild Georgia shrimp and broth with bread. The flavors incredible and you can't beat the broth... you will want to order more bread just for the broth. The cocktails are very special here, and the plating and drink where is unique to each table. It's obvious we love this place, and I hope you give it a try. The entire staff is very friendly and there is a lot of talent coming from the kitchen and bar. We wish they would bring back brunch because the brunch menu is special on its own right. read more

So glad I found this place. Came with a friend and got great consistent service and enjoyed the food. Private free parking. The restaurant is spacious and eclectic. It has a certain charm to it with a full size bar as well. The fries Brussels salad (very unique ingredients) $12 was a great combo with the smoked short rib (comes with a delicious sweet potato mash) $28. The short rib cut like butter. The Brussels were crunchy and mingled so well with oddly melodic ingredients like blueberry. I like that the menu has small and large categories as well, which makes family style or sharing food easier with groups or couples. I love their whole creative southern comfort food concept and they do it really well. Tried the brisket poutine as well $9 (wish it was less oilier though because we could only eat the fries on top because the bottom half was swimming in oil). Honestly, one small and large entree is plenty for 2 people. It was overkill with 3 but delish. Will be bringing my boyfriend back for sure! Went here for a girls night out and what a cute little restaurant! The inside was rustic, but modern, very cute! Our waiter was also very friendly, which made the dining experience that much better. As for the food, we ordered 4 small plates and a side for 3 gals, and it was the perfect amount! Was pleasantly surprised at their small plate portions being pretty generous! Here was the layout: Black Bean Hummus (cold small plate) - came with an abundance of pita bread with some pickled veggies! thought the hummus had great flavor and consistency was perfect! Wood Grilled Octopus (hot small plate) - cut octopus combined with smoked potato, creme fraiche, green tomato, and gremolata; flavor profile was interesting, maybe because I was expecting a more savory and umami flavor, but it had a slight tang to it; octopus was tender and I liked the acidity that the green tomato brightened the dish. Wild Georgia Shrimp (hot small plate) - 9 smaller shrimps (head-on) in a lemon garlic wine butter sauce with two ciabatta slices; pretty good value, great sharing dish, and really yummy flavors! Fried Brussel Salad (hot small plate) - one of my favorite dishes! loved the flavorful brussels with roasted sweet potatoes and cauliflower, caramelized pecans and blueberries. Didn't love the gorgonzola cheese, but that's a preference. It was a good attribute to the entire meal. Fries - with cajun-style seasoning; they were standard good. I don't remember which day I went but it was probably an hour and a half before they were closing for brunch. From what I could see not too many tables were filled, yet me and my friend still had to wait. I did see there was another seating area for a larger party.. so I'm assuming that was why it took so long. The food was good, but I was pretty basic and got Belgian waffles and eggs.. lol. Cute, local spot in Chamblee with a unique ambiance and yummy food! We made reservations for Southbound on a Saturday Evening, and asked for outdoor seating. Honestly, a bit confused about their layout (I thought they had a rooftop for dining, turns out it's used for events) and the patio atmosphere was a bit ~underwhelming~ compared to the photos. There is a parking lot that is essentially private to the restaurant, so no issues with that. Our server was super nice, attentive, and made great suggestions, unfortunately I cannot remember his name! We enjoyed the Nashville Hot Chicken, Brisket, Street Corn, Wild Georgia Shrimp, Buffalo Cauliflower and fries -- they were absolutely cooked to perfection! My personal favorite were the Nashville Hot Chicken (spiced well and juicy!) and the Brisket. You can tell Southbound took their time with this menu. I wasn't particularly impressed with the Mac and cheese, which was a slight disappointment given that this is a southern restaurant. However, the cocktails we got were strong and SO easy to down! I had a cocktail that is no longer on the menu-- it had green tea in it and MAN, I would do anything to try it again! Overall, a really positive first experience and I will be back! read more

My wife and I dined here a few months back so sorry for the lack of some details. Located in downtown Chamblee right across from the train tracks. The building is really a cool old building. Maybe an old train depot. Parking is right on property. A little limited but there were several spots on a busy weekend night so all good. We had reservations and were sat right away. The decor of this place is fantastic. I normally don't care about decor that much, but Southbound is unique enough that my wife and I had a great time looking around. The bar area was quite busy. I would say that the noise level is moderate. Service was absolutely on point. Our server was quick, professional and very knowledgeable. I ordered the brisket but I do not recall what my wife had. The brisket was absolutely awesome. I often don't order brisket because so many places screw it up. Southbound was perfect. Just the right amount of fat and meat and cooked just right. My wife was not thrilled with what she had, and sorry again for not remembering. Despite my wife not loving her meal (will write it off to just a bad choice for her), everything else makes this a 5 star spot. Will definitely be back. read more

Stopped in for lunch, I was blown away by the food. We had some issues with service- wrong food delivered, we waited more than once for someone to notice our empty drink glasses. I had the Cuban and it was one of the best sandwiches I've had in my life. Kale salad was better than I could have imagined- it's served with shaved fennel and crumbled soft cheese. This visit was a return, and we were looking forward to an enjoyable meal. However, it was an off night for Southbound. The atmosphere is always energetic, and this evening was no different. The change was with the food. We started with goat fritters. They were a bit overcooked, creating a very hard outside shell, with a slightly dry filling of grits on the inside. I wish we had more than a drizzle of pepper jelly. It would have added some of the moisture the fritter badly needed. My last visit, I had very tasty wings, and I ordered those again. Sadly, our server came back to let us know that wings were not available. She suggested the hot chicken, and I made that my selection. I love spicy food, so I was hopeful the switch up would be a tasty one. Alas, it was not. The chicken was double (triple) breaded and fried. Rather than enriching the breading, the hot sauce was gingerly applied. The chicken itself overcooked and dry. My breaded bird was placed between two thick pieces of white bread smothered in mayo and a layer of pickles. I loved the pickles. The mayo; not so much. It didn't really add moisture or flavor, simply made the bread mushy. And there was no heat in my hot chicken. The hubby is a meat lover and ordered the Meat & 2 Plate. He chose the sliced brisket, Brussels sprouts and fries. His sides were great. His meat was a combination of fat and dry brisket. It would have benefitted from a healthy dose of bbq. Our server, while very friendly, was more attentive elsewhere. We had to hunt her down for water refills. Not the best meal. Hopefully, just an off night. read more

This place needs more reviews. It's a hidden place, in a residential neighborhood so not many people know about it. It's been open for roughly four years. I had two "small" plates which are not really small; they resulted leftovers! I'm glad I had them because the cheesy mac & cheese was everything I ever hoped for. The hot chicken is perfectly fried and topped off with red peppers on a bed of Texas toast. For dessert I ate the blonde sundae which is to die for! My taste buds were in heaven. I had a late cup of coffee at Moonbird which is located in the space upstairs and decided that it was time to put food in the belly so I decided to dine at Southbound. It's in an old factory with a vintage wooden bar serving farm-fresh Southern food. Its located in Historic Chamblee and opened Tuesday to Saturday, they're closed in Sunday's. I'm totally in love with this space, the exposed brick, wood, large party dining space and the outdoor seating area. Its beautiful! It was a sunny and clear winter afternoon so I decided to sit outside.... love a restaurant with outdoor seating. The hostess gave us our menu and then the waiter came over to greet us and go over the menu and specials. Very welcoming service and the employees wore smiles so that's always a plus. Pretty decent lunch selection which you also have access to on Saturday until 2:30. I ordered the shrimp po'boy with a side of fries which was $14 and topped with romaine, pickles and a sauce. The atmosphere is inviting, the service is friendly, parking wasn't a problem, and most importantly, the food was delicious. It's been a while since I came here with a few family members - though I've gone go Moonbird, the coffee shop it shares space with (during off hours) on a few occasions. From what I recall, the food was good but not great. Everyone but me got fried chicken and enjoyed it, but it's hard to screw up fried chicken. I don't remember what I got. Knowing myself, something weird. Again, good, but not good enough to make a point to go back, and it's in my neighborhood. They have a relatively pleasant uncovered patio, but it does have an excellent view of some metal trash cans. This is one of our favorite spots in the Brookhaven/Chamblee area. The food is top quality and we absolutely love the bar. Food is high end southern flare primarily but they will put some twists on the menu to mix it up, like a southern-inspired ramen. The bar is what really makes it for me, the bar staff and fantastic and they make great cocktails. They've always have good spirits since I've been coming and really make the experience. Southbound is a nice craft cocktail restaurant nestled in what I consider to be a cute village across the tracks in Chamblee. The space has a mature, yet casual vibe to it and a large bar that's slightly separate from the dining room downstairs. Upstairs is another bar and area which seems like it may be used more for private or special events. I can't recall the name of my cocktail, but it was good and the bartender was very social. I really, REALLY want to like this place more. I feel like it has potential for greatness but it just didn't hit the spot. The inside is beautiful and rustic and there is an upstairs and a downstairs. Upstairs is beautiful with wood decor everywhere. Service was amazing at first, they were very attentive. Then it got busy. Granted we were there on a Friday night, I don't think having one server (she did have someone helping her) for the entire upstairs is a good move management-wise. I have worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and I recognize things happen. However, I feel this is not just a turn and burn type of place considering the prices you pay. Once it was busy I am accustomed to someone asking if our food was ok.... no one asked. Our drinks were empty and it took a while to get another round. It also took a while to get our check.. As for the food, it was ok. Just ok. Not bad, not great, just ok. I will say their mixed drinks are very tasty. I wish I had more to say... my experience was, well, ok. The train and Marta go past quite frequently but if you're in good company that won't matter so much. Drinks are great! I had the tequila mixed drink and the food is great.
