Was in ATL for my son's birthday trip, and honestly we had soooo many options to choose but this place from previous reviews and photos had me intrigued. Coming into it, around early dinner time hour, it was fair to say a slow evening for a Saturday. This provided us a fair chance to be able to not feel rushed during this experience. Server and food runners were on point. Server knew the menu and what to suggest as popular meals and what his favorites were. He also informed us that food was made from scratch and the ribs were already sold out! Bummer as that would've been a go to choice! Came here on a Sunday evening. I've always wanted to try this place. It wasn't very busy. I sat at the bar and my bar tended/server was very nice and accommodating. They were cool. The fried chicken was really good. It was still steaming hot inside, when I took my first bite. The chicken was tender and had a good crunch to it. The brussels were okay. I typically like a more sweet glaze on my brussels but they did the job. I liked the mashed potatos, they were a little runny; the gravy made up for that though. I'm not a biscuit person but the biscuit that came with this meal was very soft, fluffy, moist, and had butter throughout. It was a bummer the only choices of hot sauce available were Tabasco and Cholula. I usually like Texas Pete, Crystal, or Louisiana hot sauce in my chicken. I WILL say, the monkey bread was SOOOOO good. So soft, warm, with apples and vanilla ice cream. If I knew it was this good I would have ordered 2 to go. Used to go to Culinary Drop out in Pflugerville TX all the time. I was so excited when I found one here in Atlanta too. The food was good but not exceptional. It just was not flavorful.... I can't find a reason not to give this place 5 stars. My boyfriend and I came here for the first time on a Sunday night and it was a great experience. The ambiance of the restaurant is a darker style with low hanging lights, and the music was generationally appropriate fitting the vibe of the restaurant. We ordered the Whipped Feta and Tahini (with grilled strawberry, pistachio, and grilled ciabatta) and it was AMAZING! My boyfriend got the M.A.C burger with fries and ate the whole thing. I was basic and got a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The chicken was juicy and flavorful! We are 100% coming back. They have a lot of made to scratch items, which gives the diner a very "fresh" from the kitchen dining experience (big win in my book) The group ordered meals ranging from bacon wrapped shrimp to sandwiches to salads. The individual ratings were from 3.5 to 5, with the salads taking the 5s. I personally had a chopped chicken salad and swapped out for normal ranch (instead of bbq ranch). The dressing alone was A+++. You could tell it was made from scratch and was lick-the-bowl-clean tasty. Service was great. Got great suggestion from our server. Very disappointed. The tuna crispy rice is actually hard as a rock crispy with no flavor. I ordered the burger and it was not good. The bbq sauce tastes off with no flavor and the bun seemed old, very bad and the fries taste like they were fried in old grease. I did not eat my meal and sent it back and I'm leaving. My husband and I were staying overnight in the area and I decided on Culinary Dropout. We were greeted immediately after walking through the door and were seated. This restaurant is really nice and large and the ambiance on a Tuesday afternoon was great. We started with the marinated olives and they were good. My husband had Steak Frites and said everything was really good. I went with the waitress recommendation and got the Roasted Salmon. It was terrific!! The customer service here is EXCELLENT and this is an AMAZING place for large parties. Skylar handled our booking of 40 women and our server team Madison Alexa Zay and Angelo were able to serve all of us and get us out the door for a luncheon on a weekday in 1.5 hours which if you've never hosted an event before, is a feat in itself. Additionally, the food came out great and there is so much variety here! Hubby and I happened to be in the neighborhood and hungry today. Culinary Dropout popped up on Yelp, and the name definitely piqued our interest. We opted to sit on the patio to enjoy this beautiful cool day and were fortunate enough to have Amberlou assigned as our server. We started with the crusty bread & olive oil, which was AH-mazing! Hubby even commented on how it is better than most of the upscale Italian spots we've been to and I have to agree. We also got the pimento cheese, which was delicious but I did find it kind of odd that it wasn't paired with anything like crackers or bread, etc. (note to owners: please consider changing this). We had ordered the crusty bread, so we ate it with that but if we hadn't ordered the bread, I probably would have been disappointed to just have a small serving of the pimento cheese with nothing to put it on. Aside from that, however, everything was really top notch. I ordered the ham & egg grilled cheese, which came with the breakfast potatoes, but I also added a side of the house potato chips because I really wanted to try them and they did not disappoint. The sandwich was tasty and perfectly assembled. I normally don't like breakfast potatoes but these were good and crispy. I think the house potato chips with the fantastic onion dip that comes with it is probably my favorite thing on the menu, but I also loved the famous fried chicken that hubby ordered. My sandwich was solid too, but I think his chicken was better, so obviously I only finished half of my sandwich so that I could steal some of his chicken. LOL The portions of everything were very generous, so sharing was easy and we still had plenty left over to take home with us. Amberlou offered spectacular service! She had a great attitude, was highly attentive without being overbearing, and seemed to anticipate our needs before we even voiced them (I LOVE when my drinks are refilled before I have to ask, which is an underrated server supowerpower imo). We will definitely be back and I will go out of my way to sit in Amberlou's section because she helped to elevate our already wonderful experience even further. The menu options are somewhat limited, but I think this may be why the food is so good. Some restaurants stretch themselves too thin and offer a wide variety of choices for food that is just mediocre. Culinary Dropout offers a small variety of choices for food that is cooked to perfection. It is a little on the pricey side, but the experience lived up to the price point, so at least it was well worth the splurge. So I can't speak too much to the indoor ambience. But the food was great! I ordered the Cacio e Pepe with chicken and it was perfect! The chicken on top was tender juicy and thinly sliced and the sauce on the pasta was the right balance of creamy and light. I also had a cocktail, forgot the name of it but it was very balanced and tasted great. We were at the mall nearby and stopped in for lunch. We were seated right away and opted for the enclosed patio with lots of natural light. Later we discovered that dogs are allowed on the patio. We started with the pretzels and fondue but quickly regretted the choice. The server recommended the popcorn shrimp appetizer ($18) which turned out to be a great option. The shrimp and aioli were both seasoned well. We also started with a classic Caesar salad ($13) which was pretty standard and tasted fine. We decided to take our server's recommendation for our meals too and got the pub burger with fries ($20) and the smokehouse hash ($17) which was from the brunch menu. The potato hash came with bbq pork, onion, poblano pepper and an egg with a flour tortilla on the side. Both were delicious and very flavorful. Our server Shanelle was great and patiently accommodated several requests we made with a smile. Interestingly the waitstaff appeared to wear their own street clothes, no restaurant branded shirts, aprons or name tags. Once greeted it took forever to place drink then app and then dinner order. The food was ok but the crispy rice shrimp cakes were over cooked and a little bland outside the spice in the shrimp dressing. I felt salt was lacking. Our dinners underwhelmed too - the short ribs were covered in sauce and not very good and the Asian slaw salad had a lot of romaine lettuce in it. The cocktail was served With a high noon can attached Which seemed odd. The restaurant has a large outdoor space and also big dining room so lots of space. Thanks to Yelp, I realized there was a Culinary Dropout in the area , so I made reservations to accommodate our large party of seven. Parking is super easy and free. So that's always a plus! We started off with the Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue. After that everyone put in their orders. The kids had the cheeseburger and fries from the kids menu and a side of Mac & cheese. My oldest niece had the PEKING DUCK & SHRIMP FRIED RICE, my brother had the same thing but swapped the duck out for salmon. My sister and I had the SPICY VEGAN CURRY but I added protein to mine. I wanted a salad to start because I was SO HUNGRY and she explained to us that sides could be changed (if needed) so I added a House Salad and changed my coleslaw for Brussels sprouts (GREAT CHOICE BTW). My friend kept it original and kept the slaw. I must say, that is some of the BEST friend chicken I've had. A breast, leg, and thigh ALL fried to perfection! Seasoned so well.
