Located in Ashford Lane among a strong lineup of dining spots, Culinary Dropout is a British-style gastropub with great ambiance, a full bar, solid service, and really good food. It's also a great place to hang out with friends, especially with the plaza right outside offering plenty of food, dessert, and drink options. There's tons of outdoor seating, which makes it perfect for cooler weather and an easy date spot. Service was friendly, and while there was a bit of a wait for the main entrees, the charcuterie board held us over. We ordered the Caesar salad, feta tahini dip, steak frites, and spicy rigatoni. The dip was good but leaned a bit sweet for my taste. The Caesar salad was solid and straightforward. The steak frites was well-seasoned and nicely balanced with the arugula. The spicy rigatoni was creamy and rich, but I didn't get much heat and had to ask for extra chili powder to bring out any spice. Overall, a great spot and definitely worth a visit. read more

I have been to the Culinary Dropout (Ashford-Dunwoody location) several times. Unfortunately, each visit has been disappointing, with this last visit being the worst. My whole family went after my son's college graduation. Our reservation was for 8, but we arrived around 7:45PM. No issues with being seated and the server arrived shortly after for drink orders and appetizers. The water arrived soon after, but the drinks took approximately 20 minutes to arrive to the table. No appetizers ever arrived. I should note that the restaurant was not busy. The server then came back (another 20 minutes later) and took our food order. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive, and it came piece by piece (2 orders came, then 2 more, and so forth). Random people bringing the orders, not our server. I did see her be bopping throughout the restaurant and mostly hanging out in the kitchen area. When she did come over, we inquired about our appetizers. She then made up a terrible excuse as to how there was a mix up with the tickets. She asked if we still wanted them and said it would be 5 minutes. We obliged and received only 1 order (we ordered 3 appetizer dishes). Please note that the appetizer came while we were eating our actual meals. We canceled the remaining two. We had to track her down for water refills. At the end of the meal, again I had to get up and track her down for the bill. She stated that the manager would "take care" of the appetizer, and the manager would be bringing the bill. Another woman (who never introduced herself) brought the bill and laid it down at the other end of the table and walked off. A couple of things to note for management: We were never rude or disrespectful to any staff in the restaurant. Even all of the issues. However, the attitude of the staff was very unprofessional. At several times, we could see the staff horse playing in the kitchen area. The food quality has also progressively gotten worse. I absolutely won't be returning to this restaurant, and I don't normally leave reviews, but I felt this was warranted. I really hope management takes a look and this location and makes some changes. read more

Walked over from my office. There's a big parking lot and a great shared space to play corn hole and lawn games. It was busy, but I sat in open seating at the bar. Live music was the right volume, and bar had the baseball game on so pretty good atmosphere. I ordered right away - water, whipped feta and tahini dip, and kale+squash salad with salmon added. I enjoyed my food, there was a bit of wait for the salad but it wasn't super long. I placed my card out before I got my salad but had to continue waiting to pay to leave. I guess I should've just don't it myself with the QR code. Food was good, atmosphere was good. No one checked on me for my salad (other than someone dining next to me, asking me what I ordered) and no refill for my empty water. Plates were not picked up. Just felt like I was left to fend for myself. Not super offended as a solo bar diner (it was pleasantly busy) but that's what I knocked down my review 1 star. We had the garlic toast with salmon dip. It was a nice mix of salty with a hint of sweet and garlic it didn't sound good, to me but I tired it and it was delicious. What an absolute gem in Sandy Springs! After hearing rave reviews about the food, service, and atmosphere, I finally attended an event here--and it exceeded every expectation. The layout was incredibly organized and spacious; I loved how the food was beautifully presented both indoors and on the covered patio. My husband and I were staying overnight in the area and I decided on Culinary Dropout. We were greeted immediately after walking through the door and were seated. This restaurant is really nice and large and the ambiance on a Tuesday afternoon was great. We started with the marinated olives and they were good. My husband had Steak Frites and said everything was really good. I went with the waitress recommendation and got the Roasted Salmon. It was terrific!! Hubby and I happened to be in the neighborhood and hungry today. Culinary Dropout popped up on Yelp, and the name definitely piqued our interest. We opted to sit on the patio to enjoy this beautiful cool day and were fortunate enough to have Amberlou assigned as our server. We started with the crusty bread & olive oil, which was AH-mazing! Hubby even commented on how it is better than most of the upscale Italian spots we've been to and I have to agree. We also got the pimento cheese, which was delicious but I did find it kind of odd that it wasn't paired with anything like crackers or bread, etc. (note to owners: please consider changing this). We had ordered the crusty bread, so we ate it with that but if we hadn't ordered the bread, I probably would have been disappointed to just have a small serving of the pimento cheese with nothing to put it on. Aside from that, however, everything was really top notch. I ordered the ham & egg grilled cheese, which came with the breakfast potatoes, but I also added a side of the house potato chips because I really wanted to try them and they did not disappoint. The sandwich was tasty and perfectly assembled. I normally don't like breakfast potatoes but these were good and crispy. I think the house potato chips with the fantastic onion dip that comes with it is probably my favorite thing on the menu, but I also loved the famous fried chicken that hubby ordered. My sandwich was solid too, but I think his chicken was better, so obviously I only finished half of my sandwich so that I could steal some of his chicken. LOL The portions of everything were very generous, so sharing was easy and we still had plenty left over to take home with us. Amberlou offered spectacular service! She had a great attitude, was highly attentive without being overbearing, and seemed to anticipate our needs before we even voiced them (I LOVE when my drinks are refilled before I have to ask, which is an underrated server supowerpower imo). We will definitely be back and I will go out of my way to sit in Amberlou's section because she helped to elevate our already wonderful experience even further. The menu options are somewhat limited, but I think this may be why the food is so good. Some restaurants stretch themselves too thin and offer a wide variety of choices for food that is just mediocre. Culinary Dropout offers a small variety of choices for food that is cooked to perfection. It is a little on the pricey side, but the experience lived up to the price point, so at least it was well worth the splurge. The outdoor dining was all reserved. Our server was Jonathan who was excellent. He is amazing at his job and deserves special mention and merit. We adored the soft pretzel dippers and provolone fondue. How could you go wrong with that combination? The Brussels were also a great and remarkably filling appetizer. I made the right choice with the Mongolian Beef Short Rib. Though it can come off as a little salty, the beef is so tender. They accommodated by request of frying my egg hard instead of a soft-boiled option. This dish was trike filling. They have a stellar version of the Old-Fashioned that accompanied my meal well. What a surprise! Lots of free parking and when you walk up to the entrance it's a beautiful sight of greenery and beautiful fairy lights. We were at the mall nearby and stopped in for lunch. We were seated right away and opted for the enclosed patio with lots of natural light. Later we discovered that dogs are allowed on the patio. We started with the pretzels and fondue but quickly regretted the choice. The server recommended the popcorn shrimp appetizer ($18) which turned out to be a great option. The shrimp and aioli were both seasoned well. We also started with a classic Caesar salad ($13) which was pretty standard and tasted fine. We decided to take our server's recommendation for our meals too and got the pub burger with fries ($20) and the smokehouse hash ($17) which was from the brunch menu. The potato hash came with bbq pork, onion, poblano pepper and an egg with a flour tortilla on the side. Both were delicious and very flavorful. Our server Shanelle was great and patiently accommodated several requests we made with a smile. Interestingly the waitstaff appeared to wear their own street clothes, no restaurant branded shirts, aprons or name tags. Visited Culinary Dropout with friends on a Sunday afternoon! The patio was the place to be, perfect weather & a very nice breeze! We were greeted by our server Roy who was very very pleasant! I ordered the Expresso Martini, and the Banana bread french toast. Since it came by itself, I added an egg & bacon. (Sidebar, $3 for one egg is pretty steep, but I guess lol). I came here with a friend; we decided to try one of the new restaurants on our list. It was a nice day out and chilly inside and we ended up sitting on the patio. So I can't speak too much to the indoor ambience. But the food was great! I ordered the Cacio e Pepe with chicken and it was perfect! The chicken on top was tender juicy and thinly sliced and the sauce on the pasta was the right balance of creamy and light. I also had a cocktail, forgot the name of it but it was very balanced and tasted great. My friend and I shared an appetizer - the spicy shrimp crispy rice - and it was soo good, better than we expected. The presentation of that dish was cute too. I came here with a group to get dinner on a weekend night and really loved the ambiance of this place! It's got a more casual atmosphere with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Parking wasn't too hard to find since there was a lot behind and a deck nearby. After debating what to get, I decided to try the spicy rigatoni with grilled chicken. It also came with mushrooms and spinach in a light sauce. I do wish the sauce was spicier but overall felt pretty full at the end of it. The sauce was creamy and tangy and was light which I appreciated and came with plenty of chicken. My friends also really liked their dishes and raved about the salmon which I'd love to try next time! I had to makeshift my sandwich to be full. The ceasar salad side I had was stale. If I was paying, I would have sent it back. Stale croutons, and old lettuce. Not good at all. I added shrimp. They didn't even put it together. They put it on the side and it wasn't good very bland. No taste at all. The turkey pastrami itself was ok, but again, I was expecting the pretzel bun to be soft. It was not. It was hard and also tasted kind of stale. I buy pretzel buns often and they're usually firm, but still soft if fresh. That took away from the fact the sandwich itself was good. The lemonade, housemaid, tasted like water. It might as well had been water. The monkey bread was the only thing I enjoyed. I like the aesthetic of the restaurant and I love the employees and the customer service but that's about it. As hungry as I was, I was hoping to enjoy my meal, and I did not. Tried this after reading good reviews...we went on a Wednesday and had sub par service...we were seated quickly but our server was very slow to Get to us. Once greeted it took forever to place drink then app and then dinner order. The food was ok but the crispy rice shrimp cakes were over cooked and a little bland outside the spice in the shrimp dressing. I felt salt was lacking. Our dinners underwhelmed too - the short ribs were covered in sauce and not very good and the Asian slaw salad had a lot of romaine lettuce in it. The cocktail was served With a high noon can attached Which seemed odd. The restaurant has a large outdoor space and also big dining room so lots of space. Fantastic place! Great service. Really cool menu. I Came for a dinner date and left very satisfied. It was a gorgeous evening so we decided to sit out on the patio. We shared a bottle of the Fleurs de Prairie Rose upon recommendation and it did not disappoint! We snacked on the antipasti plate as well while catching up and deciding our entrees. Thanks to Yelp, I realized there was a Culinary Dropout in the area , so I made reservations to accommodate our large party of seven. Parking is super easy and free. So that's always a plus! We started off with the Soft Pretzels & Provolone Fondue. After that everyone put in their orders. The kids had the cheeseburger and fries from the kids menu and a side of Mac & cheese. My oldest niece had the PEKING DUCK & SHRIMP FRIED RICE, my brother had the same thing but swapped the duck out for salmon. My sister and I had the SPICY VEGAN CURRY but I added protein to mine. For dessert, my brother had their monkey bread with ice cream and our fabulous waiter Roy brought enough spoons for all of us to share. Overall, the entire experience was a 10/10 as expected. Where do I start? My friend and I travel for work and we are ALWAYS trying to find some of the best food places around. He suggested this one (maybe because he's also a chef lol) but man 10/10. The environment is really welcoming and our server was so pretty and so nice! He got an old fashion beverage which seemed to go down pretty quickly! I wanted a salad to start because I was SO HUNGRY and she explained to us that sides could be changed (if needed) so I added a House Salad and changed my coleslaw for Brussels sprouts (GREAT CHOICE BTW). My friend kept it original and kept the slaw. I must say, that is some of the BEST friend chicken I've had. A breast, leg, and thigh ALL fried to perfection! Seasoned so well. Was super pumped to finally try this place because I have driven by it so many times and finally decided to head there for brunch to celebrate a friend's birthday! We had a reservation for Saturday morning at 11:30 but it was kind of empty so tbh we probably could've walked in. Either way still nice! Our waitress was super patient with us and super sweet. I opted for an aperil spritz to start but they did have traditional hot coffee which was nice for brunch. To eat I got the breakfast platter where I added cheese to my eggs and while this was super simple it was delicious. The grilled bread perfect. It was a midweek night and not very busy - not sure which nights during the week are their busiest. There are lots of different seating options and the ambiance is chill. I imagine it is much louder and hectic on a weekend night. The Spicy Shrimp Crispy Rice appetizer was pretty good. Being in Atlanta, there's usually some type of fried chicken on most "New American" restaurant menu's, so I try not to order it out too often. I'm glad I did this time - the chicken was very good. The biscuit that it comes with was so dense - it'd probably be perfect for a biscuit sandwich. I couldn't finish it all, but I took home the leftovers and it was still very good later. What really stood out (in a bad way) was the lack of management. Not once did a manager come over to acknowledge the delay or apologize. At a certain point, our (very kind) waitress disappeared -- and that's usually a clear sign the kitchen is falling apart and staff are being left to deal with frustrated customers on their own. When we finally did hear from management, it wasn't accountability -- just excuses. No ownership, no real attempt to make things right. For a holiday service, with a limited menu and plenty of staff, there's no excuse for being this unprepared.
