I will admit to feeling a lot like Patrick Star and his secret box as I approach the secret entrance to GA Chapter Room. Slipping past the Taco Mac crowd, going down the staircase, always provides the intended sense of mystery. GA Chapter Room is furnished nicely with a couple large booths and a great bar. The colors are dark, masculine and really is the perfect look for a secret bar in a basement. A good selection of draft beers, tons of bottled beer, specialty mixed drinks, and a limited food menu are offered. Service is friendly and attentive. It's not cheap, but it's nice to get away from the proletariat once in a while. Maybe I'll see you there, but we won't talk about it... read more

What a cool spot! This is just to the right of the taco mac and although not hidden it is a little obscured to mimic a speakeasy. Go down the stairs and through the door and you'll find a truly nice location. Huge TVs, a great bar, wonderful tables with truly cozy seating, dimly lit but well done decore made this venue sing! The other nice thing is it wasn't crazy crowded and it felt like we could just talk and be ourselves in here. No shouting required for talking and even with a few others here it was quite private. The drinks were good! At least that is what my beauty said... I had Heineken zero as usual. The food came from the taco mac I think but it was good too. Our server was a bit absent but she was beautiful and friendly. She was the bar tender and the only one working so we cut her a little slack besides my lady LIKED her! Love this place was a little hard to find you have to go down the steps.. bartender was friendly.. this place was a nice chill vibe. Love the atmosphere not too big not too small... the food was really good.. Only thing I would say is that they need more workers because the bartender had to spend most of her time behind the bar. This was the perfect venue to have monthly book club. The seating was cozy without being crammed, the music wasn't too loud so it was easy to talk, the food was fantastic and the bar tender was so accommodating and awesome. Not what it used to be. Service has gone wayyy downhill. I ordered dinner and sat for nearly an hour before the server checked in. I asked about my dinner, she went to check and came back to say they were out of an ingredient, what did I want to do. At this point, I just took whatever they could give me so I could be on my way. Located under Taco Mac, the entrance is easy to find - just follow the signs! The Chapter Room was well decorated and very sleek. The bathrooms were super clean but only one toilet in each restroom. There are a few larger booths that would be great for 6-8ppl and a bar that seats 8-10, then a bunch of smaller pub tables. My husband's work organized a meet up here on a Monday night for the holidays. It was really awkward, a bunch of small pub tables were pushed together with large rolling chairs for about 16-20ppl attempting to make a circle. Honestly, I think this is more bad planning on the co-workers but The Chapter Room didn't make any other suggestions. My first drink was delicious, Ode to Sunshine. I ordered three of the same thing and they were completely inconsistent in taste - all good, but not the same. I didn't eat any food because the menu was more for snacking and not for eating, and the server didn't know if anything was gluten free. The others in my group enjoyed the food. Warning. I hadn't visited this Taco Mac speakeasy since it was Fred Bar! So it was weird to see the new entrance but still fun all the same. We ordered some beers and nachos to share. I ordered the ETA by Wildleap, an American IPA. I rated it a 3.75 out of 5 on Untappd, which is pretty good, in my book! And definitely a beer that I haven't seen around too much, either. It was the first time I saw the nachos plated this way and now I think that's how the nachos are served in most Taco Mac locations now. But the meat on these nachos is definitely higher quality than the ones I've seen there. Definitely will be back to try some different beers that you can't find anywhere else! read more

So this weekend while hubby is in town we are deciding to do 2021 Atlanta speakeasy weekend tour... first stop is "The Chapter Room" off of Roswell Rd..under the Tacomac We started off our evening with a couple libations I got the Providencia, potent fresh and bubbly hubby got the lamplighter, kinda sweet kinda heat... Alexis recommended the crab dip...creamy with chunks of crab and cheesy goodness.. We split the steak salad with a side of fries...steak was shy side of medium rare, the vinaigrette made each green and vegetable Pop! The steak fries were a nice size portion, easy to share... Atmosphere/service: service was a 10/10. The bartender (I wish I remembered her name) was amazing. Super patient, suggested variations to the available cocktail list based on our alcohol preferences, and was very nice. They advertise this place as a speakeasy and I actually disagree. The entrance itself is "hidden" as you have to go through some sketchy hallway part in the back, but there is a big sign in the front next to Taco Mac. The lights were very bright inside and the types of alcohol they had available actually were lacking (i.e. no contreau, chartreuse, etc that you would expect a speakeasy to have to make a lot of variation of cocktails). Food/drinks: they have a menu with beer, wine, and cocktail options. The cocktails are good and they had a solid selection of beers. We really enjoyed the Ode to Sunshine and the best coast cocktail. Refreshing and easy to drink. Overall, not what I expected from a "speakeasy" but the company and two cocktails were very good. read more

My family & friends love coming here! It's a great central location for us and we always have a great time - WHEN IT's OPEN! Twice lately we had plans for several of us to meet there during their advertised open hours only to be disappointed because there was no bartender and therefore not open for business. There were 10 of us looking forward to watching the Braves there a few days ago - that's a lot of missed revenue for them because we can put away some food & booze. We had to find someplace else to spend our money and we weren't as happy as we would have been at The Chapter Room! The GA Chapter Room is a speakeasy of sorts - a hidden establishment serving alcoholic beverages - a tribute to ancient days of yore when Prohibition was the law of the land - and alcohol was illegal. The entrances to the places were never marked and well hidden. The reviewer who stated that "to get to it was pretty creepy," apparently does not know that the entrance to Speakeasy's were not supposed be known or pretty. To enter, you press a button and wait for someone to answer the door and let you in. In any case, our group met here for ales and appetizers. We sat at the bar and had a fun conversation with the bar keeps. I had two brews: - An Ale of Interest Pale Ale (5.5% ABV), Against the Grain Brewery, Louisville, KY (rated 4.25 stars on Untappd) - Foolery Imperial Milk Stout (14.0% ABV), Hardywood Park Craft Brewery, Richmond, VA (rated 4.25 stars on Untappd) Both beers were very good. After the Imperial Stout - due to it's strength, I was done for the evening. Food-wise - I ordered the Crab-Blue Cheese dip - and also got to try the wings. The dip was delicious. Came here with a friend for a few drinks. This is a small bar near Taco Mac. Its not exactly a speakeasy because you don't need a code to get in but its definitely tucked away. The space looks nice, clean and roomy with plenty of TVs. Its a casual dress code so good for chilling and watching the game. The cons are the food menu is small and the bar is small. I wanted a crown and coke which is usually available at most bars but this bar doesnt have crown royal. I might go back but it wouldnt be my first choice. We ended up leaving after one drink and going to another bar. read more

A nice surprise when hubby and I visited during a double date. We went on a Friday night and the place was crowded but we were able to grab a few seats. The waitress was super nice and although the food and drinks took a while, she set the correct expectations upfront that they were very busy and short ha fed. We weren't in a rush so it was fine. The hot wings were crispy which we requested. The truffle fries were okay. Drinks were not crazy expensive. I got some kind of Collins and hubby got an old fashioned. So... beneath. the ratchet chain restaurant we have a.... amazing low key private bar area with the same ratchet food!! :) That said, the food at Taco Mac is actually really good - even for that chain restaurant vibe. Here in the chapter room, there are several amazing craft beers on tap. My guess is this place is often dead because most people dont know about it or are able to find it. Positive: The ambiance is great here!! It's a nice chill spot downstairs, kind of a speakeasy. Drinks were refreshing and strong. They have small plates, we had a crab cake and crab dip. It was pretty good. Negative: It would have been better if our waiter/ bartender was more attentive. It was hardly anyone in there and we had to tell her when we were done to pay for the check. She also was not very accommodating, and lacked good customer service skills. She was on her phone and FaceTiming behind the bar and neglected to check in on us. Not a secret anymote. I took a group of friends recently and was surprised to see a big lighted sign displaying near the front entrance to the Taco Mac. So we went down the new (not so secret) entrance and had an ok time. They've totally redecorated, the privacy curtains for the tables are no longer their. The one tradition that has remained is them keeping a skeleton staff that will get you when they get to you and who focus on their regulars while ignoring those who are not right at the bar. This was a little surprising to me since they no longer have to look for the red light (yes they told us that entrance is totally done away with). It's still an interesting respite from the crowded upstairs and a would be ok for watching formula one racing or a private event, but it no longer has the "secret" factor which takes away much of the mistique. My main reason for making this review though was to just let people know that it's no longer a secret speakeasy with a special entrance. read more

I'm from New York and have been to literally thousands of bars and don't want to hear complaints about the attitude or decor or service. If the bratwurst looks underwhelming, that's because it was certainly underwhelming. I'm convinced this was a Johnsonville bratwurst cooked to mediocre standard (no beer taste detected), and instead of sauerkraut topped, it's grilled onions. I've never tasted a native bratwurst, but this wasn't comparable to other satisfying brats I've tried. If you want a beer-simmered bratwurst with apples and pepper, perfectly browned, finalized with soft bread I suggest a different menu item. The atmosphere is pleasant and quiet. Classy, curtained, and sectioned tables and a collection of stouts. The menu is limited yet worth exploring, you may find this calm and collected place worth visiting just for its low-key reputation and alcohol. True rating: 3.5 read more

After hearing a lot about this place, I finally decided to stop in last weekend with some friends. We met up at Taco Mac and made our way down to GA Chapter Room after everyone arrived. It was easy to find - just take a left out of Taco Mac and go down the walkway on the side of the building until you get to the bottom of the hill. Follow the red lights past the dumpster and there is a sign on the door, push the buzzer (the left one!) and wait. This restaurant has more of a gentleman's club feeling than a speakeasy, but the club chairs were comfortable, it was significantly quieter than the restaurant upstairs, and there were curtains that could be drawn to separate your party from the adjoining table. Aside from feeling like a club in decor, it also felt like an exclusive club in terms of service. Our waitress (name unknown - she did not give it, even after we inquired) was inattentive and distracted the whole time our group was there. She seemed more interested in chatting with the regulars than taking our order. It took three times for our table to get everyone's drink order placed - she came back several times because the bar was out of the beer my friends ordered and she had to go back to ask for suggestions on something similar. When our drinks finally came, the order was correct - but we were all drinking beer or wine, so there wasn't much room for error. Ordering food wasn't much better - it took two times for our order to be taken and the food didn't come out at the same time. We ordered the charcuterie plate, the truffle fries, and the Italian flatbread. Once all of our food arrived, it was good, but nothing stood out - it was upscale bar food that can be ordered at numerous other restaurants. Overall, I and my friends were displeased with the service experience we had at GA Chapter Room. The food was decent enough, but not good enough to make me want to go back. If you are in the Sandy Springs area, I would recommend trying it once just to say you've been, but I wouldn't go out of my way. There are other bars with similar food and better service. read more

The five cheese blue crab dip was amazing. We followed it up by a few beers. I had the left hand nitro milk and was not disappointed. The atmosphere is cool. Lights are dimmed but adds to this little hidden place under the taco mac. We finished up with the pepperoni flatbread. It was delicious. I don't know if this comes from the same kitchen as t.mac but this is above and beyond for food and drink. Service was excellent also! So this is a hidden bar at the Prado under the taco Mac. I'm not gonna lie to get to it was pretty creepy. I don't know if it's the air conditioning unit or radiator outside but it's right by that so it's super loud then you walk into this creepy alley hallway towards the red light and BOOM you disappear. Lol kidding. Go to the res light and push the button and someone lets you in. The inside is really nice and cozy, kinda like the feel of a cigar bar but minus the smoke. They have a couple TVs in there so you can watch sports or whatever too. They have a nice beer list mostly local and beers I never heard of lol. I decide to get the bleu cheese and crab dip which was delicious and my boyfriend got the chapter burger which he said was good too. The beers are pretty cheap too, we didn't really try any hard alcohol. Ballin on a budget you know? Well I'll definitely be coming back for a chill nights of drinks especially because I live right up the road. read more

I love it here. I've been a regular for about a year and a half. I consider this place one of my "home away from home" spots. The best beer selection in Sandy Springs- hands down (maybe even Atlanta). The staffers Summer, Michelle and Angie are amazing! I've known them the longest and they always greet me with a smile and make me feel right at home. They are very attentive to the customers. I'm just now getting to know Meredith and Brittany, they are pretty good too- so overall a nice effective team with an extremely knowledge manager, Jeremy! It's typically quiet and low key down here and I love that. There have been times when I've went to sit at a table to just catch up on some work of mine! I typically bring friends of mine down here and they always love it! They too love that the staff treats customers well and the beer selection. Food wise- I stick to the wings and Chapter burger! Fries are to die for with a side of Truffle Sauce! Anyway, great spot, great beer, great food, great team! read more

I brought my cousin here, who has never been to a speakeasy before and I must say even I was impressed. The door is definitely hidden and you have to look around this shopping plaza for a green light (apparently that is a sign) and once inside it is extremely old school with wooden panels (literally everywhere) and it has a very Great Gatsby feel. One particular thing I liked was that you can separate yourself from the rest of the crowd there, as many of the seating areas have little curtains for privacy. Wow, can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. I hate some of these speakeasies where you have to say something stupid and ask someone for some stupid code and enter something into some device to get in. And then you have to go through some kitchen and ask for Jackie and pull the arm of some statue and then go through the cooler and pray that you are in the right place. I have this fear of rejection and that's too many steps where someone can tell me "what the hell are you talking about?" or "get outta here." My first venture into the GA Chapter Room began with me and a friend upstairs at the hostess stand at Taco Mac. I asked where it was but it was loud so the hostess asked me where it was or what it was. Well-played hostess. I asked where and she told us to go down the sidewalk and look for a door with a monkey. So we headed down and couldn't find the place. But just at the right time my friend looked back and saw some door on it with what looked like an ornate monkey logo. Bam! Basically it's directly under TMac and there is a walkway off the sidewalk to get to the door. We went there, pressed the red button and we were ushered into a magical land. I've been there a few times now and there is a light menu. Same wings as TMac but the fries are thicker cut and better. Don't say you heard it from me but once we were there for a while and told the manager we had to head upstairs to get more food. Basically he let us order whatever we wanted off the TMac menu and they brought it downstairs. Score. That's service. They have a rotating selection of uncommon/rare beers on tap plus a nice selection of equally excellent bottled beers. Lots of high gravity stuff. Of course the curry tasting beer was a bit overspiced for me but the selection is good nonetheless. Last week we had the Aventinus 2006 which is not an easy find. It was fantastic. Jeremy (the manager?) talked with us for a while and educated us on their beer selection. The staff is nice, the atmosphere is great, it's dark-ish, reasonably clean, a few TVs with college/pro games on but not too loud (games usually on mute with music playing) and a great hangout. You can sit at the bar or some tables or some even larger cushioned areas. If you want to hang out at a fantastic spot with some delicious beers, this is the place. read more

This is how a speakeasy is done, folks! It's cool, it's dark, it's quiet, and it's impossible to find if you don't know what you're looking for. Taco Mac food with an amazing selection of rarer and lesser-known beers. Bonus: big bellied middle-aged guys who are "chancellors", which means they've tried 1000+ beers at taco Mac. I spent my afternoon with a few quintuple chancellors; these guys have the coolest stories. If you're looking to hook up with Miller-light drinking twenty-somethings, this ain't for you. If you want to relax with great beer and good convo, this is the perfect spot. read more

This is a special place to me because the bar is hidden from everywhere else, and the folks that work there are top notch! I love the beer selection, even though it can be a bit over priced... but as they say, you get what you pay for. This is not a place you go to watch sports, even though there are two tvs there with sports usually on. This is a place to go and chill and enjoy your company and the libations/food. The flatbreads are very delicious and the wings from Taco Mac can be ordered here which is always a plus. I frequent here quite regularly and do not see that changing any time soon!
