For along the strip in Solvang, this is a good choice. Howver if, like me, you remeber the Gathering Table from its Ballard Inn days, be forewarned. IT IS NOT THE SAME. I've had dishes at its former location that I've set the bar for at other places - even Michelin recognized establishments. Today, we ate the equivalent of bar food. A boutique restaurant has settled in as a restaurant concerned only to serving to the masses. Nothing distinct or original here anymore. read more

We had such an incredible meal here! You'll first notice when you walk into the restaurant just how beautiful the space is. It's got a great, fun energy too! We are locals and came here for breakfast two months ago and it was so tasty, and the service was very good. We found it odd that we were the only customers in the place. We went back for their brunch a couple of days ago, on a Friday, and it was so average, and disappointing. The brunch menu is minimal, not that interesting. We had the bacon and egg breakfast. $17 for two slices of thin bacon, tiny pieces of crunchy potatoes, and average sourdough bread. The coffee was $6. It was a very underwhelming meal. We won't be back, there are so many other better restaurants in the area. We were again the only people in the restaurant, now we understand why. I almost felt like we were in the way. The waiter was professional, but cold. I almost felt as if we were keeping him from whatever he needed to get done, and that's probably because we were, being the only people there. read more

Walk away while you can! We just had the worse experience here. Go elsewhere...there are too many great places in Solvang to waste your time here. The service was mediocre and they didn't have most things on menu. We still decided to give them a chance, plus we had already sat down. Our food took forever to come and we didn't get all of our items until the end of our meal...the meals came but no toast, the pancakes came but no syrup, and they finally decided to tell us they didn't have any toast but gave us cold pancakes instead. Then Lori the manager refused to compensate us for some of the incomplete meals because "we ate most of the food" but we were starving by the time the cold eggs came out so Im not sure what was expected of us as customers. I would have eaten a shit pie if they had put it in front of us at that point!!!!!! They didn't even tell us they didn't have items until the end. This was just a horrible horrible experience and I would hate for anyone else to go through this. This is not a cheap place and they act like they are doing us a favor. Not worth it. We came here and had the sea urchin and rack of lamb. The food was delicious! The entire staff provided exceptional customer service, the chef Budi, came out and greeted all the customers. The ambiance of the place is nice. The staff are kind of cold. The portions are small and the prices are quite high but the taste sensations are an epicurious delight. I had the Himachi and Mido Black cod. Both were delicious. I would go again but be wishing the staff were warmer. read more

Last Sunday, 8/17 my girlfriends and I walked into an elegant yet casual restaurant and were welcomed by the friendly staff. We enjoyed a few starters but my favorite was the hamachi. We shared everything family style. I loved the Miso Black Cod, it was so fresh and delicious and was great with the garlic noodles. The charred cabbage with peanut sauce was so addictive! The wine was poured and the conversation flowed. What a memorable evening. Chef Budi Kazali is so skilled with combining incredible Asian flavors and textures with French influences. The food and ambience at this place was great! Had the focaccia with garlic chili crisp oil (AMAZING! I would buy jars of the oil if they sold it), curried zucchini with pistachios and golden raisins (yum), soy marinated salmon (cooked perfectly), and miso glazed black cod (OMG! Melt in my mouth goodness). Also enjoyed some deserts: carmel budino (creamy, carmely, noms) and almond panna cotta (light and delicious). Great service as well. Highly recommend! read more

Nice restaurant but if you wanna get ripped off for $15 for three small cold pancakes and no sides this is the place for you. Just consider a side of bacon is five dollars for four pieces and you gotta pay for a side of scrambled eggs. STEER AWAY. Terrible service, terrible attitude by the workers + bland and okay food. We had ordered a couple of main dishes, alongside appetizers, one of which was the chawan-mushi. We had waited roughly 40 minutes for the main dishes to come, during which many waitresses had accidentally brought over the wrong dishes. After finishing the main dishes, the waitress told us that the chawan-mushi (our appetizer) was coming, and that they forgot to put the order in initially. The server told us directly, "I didn't say it's your fault" in a very condescending manner, without any single apology for waiting more than an hour at that point for our appetizer to arrive, given that we had finished the main dishes by this point. We asked if it was possible to cancel the appetizer, as we had already waited longer than an hour. After asking this, the waitress told us that this was not possible. They then asked us again if it's possible that we pack it up, even though the restaurant had made the mistake. We thought that as customers, for waiting over an hour for the dish, they would have at least apologized but this was not the case at all. Instead, they forced us, and left condescending remarks like "I didn't say that!" Or "That's not what I said" in response to kindly asking them to cancel the last appetizer that was delayed over an hour. Besides this, there seemed to be so much mistake happening in the background, with a family seated next to us, waiting for their main course to arrive for longer than expected. In the meantime, many dishes were mistakenly taken to others' and our table even though they were not our food. This place is a hot mess -- steer away. Terrible service. Come here if you want to wait an hour + for your dishes to come - not a great date spot, or a place to come with friends or loved ones. The food was also just okay--nothing impressive. The main factors that contributed to this place receiving a 5-star review were the food and the service. I ordered a breakfast burrito, which was a perfect 10/10. We went to The Gathering Table and the Food didn't come for a long time. It took an hour and a half to get our food and it's because they had a "small backup." To be honest, if it was a small backup, it should only take 15 minutes and not an hour wait. Also, people walked out of the restaurant because the wait was very long! Revision: By the way, they comped the food, but not the drinks for some reason. Thus, adding more waste of time for leaving the establishment because of the bill. If I could I'd give it a 10! I had the miso black cod it was fantastic, my wife had the citrus Salmon it was amazing! I had the mussels OH LORD! They were cooked and seasoned to perfection, the sauce on the cod was incredible! The focaccia with the chili spread was sooooo good! I had the halibut sashimi was fresh and the sauce it was in was fantastic! The octopus was soft and yummy with a sauce that complimented it perfectly! Their wine list is unreal I had a pino and wow! The ambiance the atmosphere and service was top notch and I would recommend that if you are anywhere near here eat there for sure it is fantastic all around! To the chef, Bravo! read more

Amazing!!! So happy they reopened after being closed for a couple of years. We started with the roasted cauliflower app which was out of this world amazing! I had the filet which was perfectly cooked and the flavor and tenderness were amazing! My husband had the flat iron steak with oyster sauce out of the special menu! We will return soon! read more

We ate here this past weekend (1/4/25) for brunch with my wife and 2 young kids. We had planned to eat at some of the other popular brunch restaurants but the lines were crazy long. We decided to look for Succulent (a place we enjoyed in the past) to find out it had been replaced by The Gathering Table. The menu looked okay, there didn't seem to be much of a wait and decor was inviting. We were seated right away. It took a while before we were brought waters and took even longer to order our food. We were pretty patient at this point being that we had no real immediate plans. Finally our waitress came to take our order and our cocktails came shortly after. I had observed that most everyone sitting around us had no food on their tables which indicated to me that the kitchen was slow and backed up. Granted this place is a fairly new establishment at this location, maybe they're still working out the kinks. My kids were pretty behaved for a while but started getting fussy and hangry. I noticed another couple that had arrived after us already eating their food. 35 minutes later, our food hadn't arrived and I'm still defending our waitress saying it's not her fault the kitchen is slow. She then comes to our table and apologized about the wait and brought us OUR BILL!!! OMG... never have I experienced this in my life! I guess she saw our table with just drinks and empty of food plates that someone had cleared our table and we were waiting for our bill this entire time??? She had the look of embarrassment on her face when we told her we haven't even received our food. She apologized and came back with our food right away. At this point we were beyond upset and rightfully so I think. We asked if the food was cold and that we had waited a looong time. She seemed a little offended and defensive with our comments. But can you blame us?!?! Would've gave 1 star but our food was actually good despite the poor service. Cocktails we ordered the Paloma which it was tasty and refreshing but the mimosa was mediocre. Food we had the Eggs and bacon (basic but it was for the kids), Valley Ranchero (very flavorful and tasty), and Steak Frites (cooked perfectly). I would say I'd like to give this place another try because the dinner reviews look promising. But probably not anytime soon if the brunch service is an indicator of how dinner service would be. read more

Although we were satisfied by the food and drinks, and really liked the aesthetic of the restaurant...I probably won't be returning to this place. We stopped here for brunch. The place didn't look too busy and the pictures of the menu items posted outside seemed appealing so we decided to go in. There was no one in the courtyard so I walked in and found the hostess. She immediately asked if I had a reservation which I said no. She then proceeded to ask if I was on the waitlist, which again I said no. She stared and again asked "you're not on the waitlist?" Again I said no. She said to wait there which I did. I was waiting there for a while before someone else approached me and took down my name. We were about to leave when they called us, so we stayed. However, once seated no one came to even take a drink order or greet us. We sat there for a while in dissapointmet until the person behind the bar (Alyssia) approached us to ask if we had been helped. She took our orders and promptly brought our drinks and food. She was the only person that followed up after event though it was clear she was not one of the waitresses. I saw her tending and helping other tables as well eventhough there were several waitresses walking around. No one else stopped to see if we needed anything. I recently dined at this lovely restaurant for a reunion with my girlfriends. Wow, what an awesome experience! This comfortable and cozy restaurant is so elegantly decorated. The staff were so friendly and attentive. The chef, Budi Kazali has done an excellent job of creating a unique and creative Asian-French fusion menu. We shared our dishes family style. The food was fresh, flavorful and delicious. For starters, the hamachi, japanese cucumber salad and charred cabbage were my favorites. I loved the miso black cod with garlic noodles as an entree. The wines were paired nicely with the meal. I would highly recommend The Gathering Table for dinner. Can't wait to return!! read more

We were in town for the Julefest Parade and got there early to eat breakfast...with our toddler in tow, we made our way around town...trying to find a place that was toddler friendly with no line was proving difficult. So my husband suggested we stop here....it does not look toddler friendly but do not let looks fool you...my daughter got pancakes with whip cream and spriankles. Friends and I were looking for a place for dinner, and two guests leaving the Gathering Place raved about it, so we decided to give it a try. It was amazing! We had reservations for 8 pm and were not seated until 8:50, even though multiple walk up groups were seated. Once seated, we were ignored by our waitress for an additional 20 mins, even after asking for service multiple times. The food is not bad, but nothing special and certainly not worth the cost. The decor and ambiance is very nice, but serves as a bait-and-switch to lure you into a dinner you'll regret. The cherry on top was the lack of birthday/special occasion options even though the reservation noted it, and asking the host, and wait staff about bringing something out (and clarified that a charge on the bill would be fine). this place would not last a day in LA, abysmal food and terrible service. a few reviews here mention the racism and i wish i had seen those before walking in because we were treated terribly. i tipped them 15% to show how off-put i was but i think their racism was so deeply ingrained they didn't realise it was supposed to be an insult. the duck was watery and tough, and so was the steak -- sinewy and like chewing rubber. ew. the flavours of nothing went together and we did not finish anything we had ordered. there were so many other better restaurants in solvang there really is no reason to go to this terrible racist place. they even messed up a simple panna cotta. their korean inspired wings were so off, the chef doesn't know how to balance flavours at all. all this on top of being ignored much of the night -- to the point that our water glasses were unfilled for much of it. i got to a restaurant at least weekly, and this is by far, easily, the top two worst places i have ever been to. read more

The bad reviews for this place surprise me as we did the Valentines set menu for $150 per person and we really enjoyed the whole set up.
