Came here Wednesday night with another couple after we had a great experience dining here before. We were a bit disappointed this time around, especially after telling our friends how great this place was. Then, when I told them they need to be a little more observant (I had glass in my shoe from the glass breaking) the manager basically told me that I wasn't his problem. Today my husband and I were greeted by a hostess wearing a black tank top with her bar straps falling off to each side and black yoga pants with her stomach hanging out. We were seated and water was brought over just about 5mins later. The glasses on the table had nude lipstick stains and the other had major water stains, not sure why they still added water to the glass. Had to request that the glasses be changed out. This is something that should not even happen, let's me know attention to detail is not top priority. The food items I ordered were really good. Here is what they really really failed at, TRAINING the new manager. Well dressed in a suit including button down shirt and tie but he was extremely preoccupied taking care of his known guest that was seated by the window. On 3 separate occasions he came and sat with them for just over 10mins, he fulfilled their request personally while not even asking the tables around if there was any wishes that he can fulfill for them, or just asking is all well, this includes my table that was next to the one he continuously came and sat at. He even said to them that he should take off his jacket so he can sit down with them. After his third 10min sit down with the middle age couple and young lady he turned to large party behind the chair he was sitting in, then soon after came to my table said hello and walked away. Fourth visit he came and sat down before their dessert arrived, then came back stayed while they ate most of it this time it was about 7mins. At their wrap up he came and sat with the same family for 4mins. During my visit to this restaurant no one came to check in to see if my meal was good or if I needed anything. I had to keep looking for and trying to get the attention of my waitress Natalie. His lack of awareness is not what any restaurant needs, friends and family should always support but know when to stop by and say hello keeping it brief. Also you should at no point check and pay attention to one table over and over and not look in the direction of the close surrounding tables and not do a check in. I witnessed more than 1 table wait over 15mins to get their check to the point where they would get up and go get the check themselves. This is not OK. Someone get the hostess a shirt to hid he falling bra straps and long enough to cover he stomach. The gentleman in the suit needs training and let your staff know that water glasses should be CLEANED this includes not having water marks and lipstick. read more

If you're in the mood for good old Cuban sandwiches and authentic Cuban food on the island, you have to try out the Cuban on Main Street. This place has everything that you'd want in a classy, Cuban place that still holds true to the feel of hispanic culture. I didn't plan on going here tonight, but while my family and I were walking down Main Street after a day of shopping. We were tired, hungry and just wanted to pick up a quick bite before we went home. The quick bite turned into a dine-in experience that I'm really glad we had, because from the moment that we stepped into the doors we were greeted by a waitress who welcomed us warmly. The first thing I noticed as we were walked to our seat was how clean and high-class everything looked, and how they really were able to connect to their Cuban image with the decor. The walls were decorated from top to bottom with colorful scenery and lively knickknacks that really was able to make me feel as though I was in an authentic Cuban joint straight out of Miami. It wasn't long after we sat down that we were greeted with a warm bread bowl with a side of herb butter. The bread was warm and fresh, with the exact crunch that you would expect from a roll straight out of the oven. The herb butter was also pleasant to have, and complimented the bread nicely. The waitress came over and asked us for what we wanted to drink, and it wasn't long before we were able to get what we ordered which was a major plus. For the entree, I ordered a Cuban sandwich since I've never had one outside of the comforts of my own home, nor at an authentic Cuban place and to say that I was extremely happy with what I got would be an understatement. The sandwich came with a mojo dipping sauce and yuca fries, which were crispy on the outside but soft and flaky on the inside. The Brioche bun that the sandwich was served on was also crunchy and perfectly toasted, with melty swiss, fresh ham and tangy mustard between the two slices. From the moment that I took a bite out of it I knew that this place was really something to write home about because I would never be able to go back to eating Cuban sandwiches at home the same without thinking of this sandwich. All in all, I'm really glad I made the effort to stop at this place tonight. From the atmosphere to the food, everything was really impressive and I would definitely go here again if I'm ever craving cuban sandwiches. read more

First let me start by saying I am Cuban and I have high standards of Cuban food - the Cuban definitely meets those standards. Their brunch is delicious and honestly their lunch menu can't be beat! The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the service we received. It's usually a bit slow, even when the restaurant is empty. BUT we went last Sunday and our server seemed annoyed to be at work. I must add it was not particularly busy at the time we went, she had maybe 3 tables but she forgot our drinks, sighed in annoyance when we asked her a question, did not let us finish ordering before she walked off, and NEVER checked on us. The hubster and I made the trek to the South Shore, Patchogue specifically, from our home on the North Shore. Not that it's a great distance however, the vibe is so different. We were excited to try The Cuban, which we had heard rave reviews about it from dear friends. Well, it did not disappoint! I love the fact that I was able to try a cuisine that is not commonly found here on Long Island. The ambiance is casual, but super upbeat with live music and fun decor for people of all ages. We were greeted and promptly led to the perfect table in the room where we could hear the music. It wasn't overly loud or obtrusive yet, perfect to set the mood.. Raul, our server was very helpful and kind. The drink menu is extensive and he helped me to choose a kick ass Pomegranate Margarita and my husband had delicious Rum Punch. Raul brought us some very delicious and interesting warm bread. It was very different and flavorful. We started off with Empanadas, which came as a set of three kinds. I believe one was beef, shrimp and chicken. My husband enjoyed them immensely, I just took a bIte. Being pint sized, I can't eat as much as him:) That was followed by a savory, delicious charred octopus which is one of my favorites when done correctly and not chewy! Perfection. I had a wonderful chicken breast , grilled with roasted corn, greens and avocado. Lots of flavor and very good. My husband had the Oxtail, which was well seasoned and fall off thee bone delicious! My wife and I had heard good things about this place so decided to go have dinner there. At first we saw a big crowd outside so were worried we'd wait long, but we two were seated pretty quickly. While it was nice to have live music (and they were really good) they were WAY to loud. We could not have a conversation. Service was incredibly slow, it took 25 minutes just to get our drinks (the owner DID apologize), and the assistants brought us other people's food, twice. We weren't annoyed, we just thought it was funny that it happened twice. They seemed overwhelmed. We also noticed that a party of four next to us had been waiting for their check for about 20 minutes. The drinks were very good, but the food was just ok. Ok because of the temperature, not the taste. It did taste very good, but what should have been hot came out warm, as if the plates had been sitting under heat lamps for a few minutes. If you're having typical Cuban food, the yuca fries and croquetas should be hot and crispy, not soggy like when they sit a bit too long. For dessert we ordered the Flan de Coco and an expresso, which were delicious. We were able to enjoy some conversation when the band took a break, but it was just too brief. On a funny (to me) side note, the DJ/announcer would play what he called Cuban music while the restaurant put on a great show with very talented dancing girls, but the music was Brazilian! Batucada, Samba, etc. I think they played one Cuban song, El Manicero. We'd heard that after 10PM, they band is replaced by a DJ, and that was fun. Lots of dancing, good music and drinks. We saw that plenty of people were coming in for that, and it was fun to see. I honestly have to say this is the worst place to dine in. From the food to the service. The wait staff does not know the menu. The bartender does not know how to make a simple mojito. The manager did not know that they had sparkling water. It literally Took 40 minutes to finally receive the pitcher of mojito that we ordered and when it arrived it was made with vodka?! Really a mojito made with vodka, ridiculous! Our appetizers arrived 25 minutes after ordering them and literally 8 minutes later our entrees arrived! Honestly save your money and go across the street for a burger. This place is seriously not worth it. The best part when you try to get the managers attention they run into the kitchen to hide until you leave. So sad because the place has potential. But when it takes them 20 minutes to buss a table you should know what you're in for from that alone. Sad, but Managment could obviously careless about reviews, service standards, clientele, and repeat business. I can tell all they care about is taking people's money. I don't know what people are complaining about this place. I been here now 3 times. On a Thursday for dinner, another Thursday for lunch and Friday for dinner. I have seen the band the dj with dancers etc. I never really waited expect on a Friday night about 30 min max and was seated at the table table up front by stage. The service is great, the drinks are delicious and all fresh made with fruits etc, the food is as good too! It's delicious. And so when people say it doesn't taste authentic it's bcs it's not going to be unless you are home making it. We've dined/ordered from here numerous times and are usually happy with the food. Our favorite is the vaca frita by far, but have also tried and enjoyed the ropa vieja, oxtail, and Cuban sandwich. We ordered lunch at The Cuban this week for the first time since April and the quality of the food was really disappointing: Vaca Frita Cubano (Twined cooked crispy skirt steak, with onions, grilled jalapenos, oregano. Served with black beans and white rice with fried egg on top.) was dry and tough, almost like beef jerky. Salmon en Miel Limoncillos (Pan Seared Atlantic Salmon fillet, brushed with a honey lemon glaze, toasted almonds, grilled figs minted quinoa with mix salad) - salmon was very dry and bland. It came with a MASSIVE side salad (an entire container packed), more than I could eat in one sitting, but unfortunately it was mostly lettuce. read more

I would not recommend going here. I went the other night with my girlfriend and the ambience is great but not much else. I was charged a dollar for a mask and reminded to wear it twice, which is fine but they said it very rudely to me every time. Once when I walked in the door and a second time as I stood up to put on my jacket. That's fine if the food was good. The guacamole was good but nothing out of the ordinary. I also did not love the plastic food container they use as a tip jar on the the table side Guacamole station. They also have no paper menus so everything has to be viewed on your phone. So I ordered the Cadallic margarita which was just straight tequila and terrible. Would not drink it. Then we ordered the lightly fried pork in mojo sauce which were burnt and dried out. The only reason this place gets two stars is because the ambiance is great, my girlfriends jalapeño margarita was delicious and when I wrapped up the guacamole they offered an extra bag of chips to go home. read more

I was so looking forward to trying the Cuban. The atmosphere is upbeat but a bit loud for my tastes. Decor is eclectic Cuban and welcoming. Dining room is very crowded with bales and they were all full of patrons. We started with cocktails, both were $10.50. The classic mojito was excellent while the sangria was acceptable. Next we ordered an appetizer, fried calamari while we reviewed the menu as we are not familiar with Cuban specialties. About 15 minutes later, our waitress returned and took our dinner order. We both ordered the double cooked pork which came with rice and beans. About three minutes after ordering dinner, it arrived. But wait, where was our appetizer? We told the served we were waiting on fried calamari so they offered to bring dinner back to the kitchen. Several minutes passed and viola the calamari arrived. It was cooked perfectly and came with two sauces, both tasty. Before we were done our dinners arrived yet again So, the server removed the appetizers and left the dinner. The pork was cold and rubbery not crispy as described and the pork was topped was some pickled onions, very overpowering. Perhaps because they sat on the pork in the kitchen! The small dish containing the beans was super watery and that bean water splashed over the bottom of the plate. I do not think I will return to this restaurant. read more

Start with Food was Good, all came out as ordered and Hot. Problem is Service! Plenty of Staff present, just not doing what and how they should be waiting on tables. 1. When Service person comes to table after you sit down with hands FULL of dirty dishes and says can I take your drink order. Not a good start. I asked they go and dispose of dishes then return for drink order. To make this short many more misses to follow: no bread, no water refills, wrong beverages, lifting hot dish Casuela over grandaugters Head etc. Summary: good food, great location, terrible service experience. Which leads me to this: Not a staff problem But a Management Problem!!! Not once during my visit did I see any visible presence of management in the dining room other than the person in a suit that sat us at the start never to be seen again. The servers are just sitting around in groups and not doing anything. Also not moving out of the way for customers to walk by. My food came out wrong so I sent it back. It came back correct but it tasted terrible. The pork was dry. There was also a bug in my drink. The cake I ordered had wax paper stuck to it in multiple places so I was picking it out of my mouth. The ice cream was freezer burned. Bathrooms had clogged toilets. When I told the servers that were just sitting around, they didn't even respond to me. I enjoyed the ambiance, it was an afternoon so no live performances but still played great Spanish tunes. The rice and beans were amazing - they call it something else don't remember- one slight comment not complaint, their food is rich in salt - so if you're sensitive to salt then mention it. Otherwise it's a great place and I recommend trying it. Ok went again for the 2nd time and the food was alright however the service was not great. Our waitress was the most absent minded person I've met- she got partial order wrong. Then she took forever to bring my rice and I asked her for an avocado and it came when my food was cold.
