Twin lobster tails
Matt Z.

We went for a restaurant week and it was a great time. The restaurant has a very nice vibe. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Portions were super generous. The Steak Frites was delicious and so were the lobster tails.

Lobster roll how it arrived at the table. $39!! So unacceptable. Not an offer to fix or correct it.

Very unacceptable lobster roll for $39. This is how it arrived at the table. Waiter chuckled when my boyfriend asked why this lobster roll was on a diet. No offer to fix it or address this poorly prepared lobster roll. Waiter was attentive otherwise. Ambiance was great.

Food was great! All of it, The service however- not so good. It got busy after a bit- but my waitress took 45 min to come back to my table after we asked her if the filet was prime? She never answered and never came back- ... I have. Problem with that-

Fantastic experience from beginning to end! The hostess was super sweet, and our server Juliana was incredibly kind and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious, and the views of the water, boats, and birds made the whole atmosphere even more special. Two managers including Caleb, stopped by to check on our experience, which really showed their commitment to great service. We'll definitely be coming again and again!

I came here with my friend for lunch. We sat outside by the water rather than inside since it was a gorgeous day out. An area with tables, umbrellas, and seating faces the water. We asked the hostess if we could sit at the seats facing the water, and she gave us a seat and opened the umbrella for shade. We had to go inside the bar to order our food, and they brought it to us. There was some confusion when we got to the bar; we were told we could order outside, but that was quickly resolved. They were very friendly and brought the food out. I had the enjoyable ceaser salad. I also had a drink called the black pearl, which I liked and would get again. Sitting outside is definitely a good choice while the weather is nice. Enjoy.

Stopped in for drinks. Service was excellent so perhaps they've resolved some early season issues. We may give the food another try based on the improvement in service since our first visit.

Fantastic dinner at the newly renovated Danfords in port Jeff. Now know as the Black Pearl. We sat outside with a beautiful view and live music. The cocktails were nothing short of creative and delicious! Cocktails pictured ate the PG-13 martini mocktail, The Barbosa, and a Smores Martini. For an appetizer we got the mussels and house made bread with garlic butter. And for dinner I had the Salmon and my friend had the Chicken Milanese. The food was fantastic from beginning to end and such a step up from the previous Ferryman's Grille. Our server Johanna was very attentive and friendly and had great recommendations. The manager Clayton came over to check in on us and make sure our experience was memorable. All around great experience and the price for the amount of food was amazing. Will definitely be coming back!

Wow. Wow. Wow. So to start off we had 7:45 reservations (highly recommend). Showed up a little early and were sat outside before our reservation time. Had a couple drinks while waiting everything was great and the vibes were no less than. Once we sat down we were greeted by our server Caleb and from beginning to end, he made our night...even if the great food wasn't part of the deal. Attentive, personable, and all around made us feel like we weren't just another table. Certainly he's nothing but a benefit to the business. He even kept to his promise about having our food served and having us to our ferry on time. Manager on shift checked in on all tables multiple times and wanted to make sure everyone's experience was what they wanted. Food solid. Drinks consistent. Service impeccable. Will return and encourage anyone that doesn't mind a little wait to enjoy a dinner here and ask for Caleb!!!! Thank you for not disappointing me and my fiancée for her dinner.

They arrived on time-fixed my non-draining dishwasher in 15 minutes and the charge was reasonable for the times. I'm a happy man.

We were also encouraged to learn that the current owner operates Drift 82 in Patchogue--something we quickly recognized from the menu and viewed as a positive sign, as we've consistently enjoyed our meals there. Our first few visits to Castaways were very good and led us to return several times and recommend the restaurant to friends. However, during a visit last summer with a party of 10, I noticed a decline in food quality. At the time, I attributed it to an "off" day. Unfortunately, our most recent visit with a party of five confirmed those concerns, and we all agreed afterward that we would not be returning. I often order the TNT salad at both Drift 82 and Castaways, so I'm very familiar with the dish. This time, the portion at Castaways was noticeably smaller--about half the size of what I've received previously. The salad is typically well-balanced with tuna and fried calamari, but this version was overloaded with calamari (all rings, no legs - usually not the case when I've ordered it) and contained very little tuna. The small amount of tuna served was an unusually bright pink color, which suggests it had been treated to mask freshness and quality - Google that tidbit if you're unfamiliar and you'll be glad you did. Anyway, as a result, I did not eat the tuna and only consumed the calamari. The lobster bisque was too salty to eat and was ultimately removed from our check. While I understand that bisque may contain minimal lobster, this one included only a spongy piece from a small claw, and the overwhelming saltiness made it inedible regardless. Other dishes at the table were similarly disappointing. The crab spaghetti was heavy with oil and lacked flavor entirely. The sea bass also had no discernible flavor, although the menu states it is pan roasted with green curry. The fish and chips were the lone exception, the diner was happy with it - after he added much needed salt. We had hoped Castaways would continue the strong start we experienced early on, especially given our positive experiences at Drift 82. Unfortunately, the decline in consistency, portion size, and overall quality made this last visit a deciding one for our group. I'm sharing this feedback in the hope that it's taken constructively, as the restaurant clearly has the potential to not rely solely on location, and to be much better than what we experienced.

Made our way to our table ( although we had a reservation still had to wait for the table to empty and then get reset). We were warmly greeted by our server Charlotte who was friendly and engaging and made several suggestions whether it was appetizers, main course or even special drinks. Started with the lettuce wraps and cauliflower bites which i highly recommend. Followed up with the Billie and Chester burgers which were outstanding. The chicken Milanese was pretty good for a non Italian restaurant although the Bleeker sandwich was a tad dry but otherwise good. The cheesecake and Irish coffees were well received to round out the evening. I was very impressed that Charlotte went out of her way to ask a staff member ( didn't get his name manager maybe) to double check for the availability of espresso coffee after we were informed they had none. My friends were extremely impressed as well as pleased a package of beans were found. I was impressed when I requested Tullsmure Dew and not Jameson Whiskey in my Irish Coffee. Overall great pub serving a good selection of beers and food with friendly and in our case accommodating staff members. When in Port Jefferson don't miss out.

*January 2026 Restaurant Week*…read more My wife's bestie made plans for the (4) of us to meet for dinner. We all live close so Fifth Season Restaurant was chosen. I haven't been here in a very long time so I'm excited to see how the restaurant has stayed in business over the years. We are shown to our table upstairs. The bar area on a Friday night looks fun and active. There's great views of Port Jefferson harbor so the restaurant ambiance is nice. We're seated and are given restaurant week menus as well as the wine/cocktail list. Listen, It's Friday nite and I don't want a wine cooler! Give to me a standard Martini stirred (Shaken is just dumb) with stuffed blue cheese olives. The ladies order appletini's and we're ready to order off the restaurant week menu. The menu has a nice selection of different offerings, I'm into all things local so I'm going to start with the beet salad and Red Snapper. The beet salad was loaded with beets! I love beets, they did a good job with this started dish. I must point out, the dish must have been prepped earlier in the day. The green salad was slighty wilted when served to me. The Red Snapper, what is that sauce on top? And the fish was sitting on a bunch of zoodles?? The fish wasn't seasoned, it wasn't very flavorful. I'm eating around the zoodles, meh. The cheesecake I ordered, it was also just a standard dessert. I didn't finish the fish or my dessert. Review is over, Fifth Season Restaurant? See you in another 5 years.

The salads we felt were small for the price but were tasty. The main course was delicious and a nice portion. However the small portions continued when we moved over to dessert, which was very overpriced for what you got. The service was also kind of slow. I think they need more wait staff.

From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was effortlessly elegant--soft lighting, cozy tables, and just the right balance of upscale without feeling pretentious. But the real star? The food. We started with fresh oysters topped with caviar that were beautifully presented over ice with all the perfect accompaniments--briny, crisp, and incredibly fresh. The cocktails were just as impressive--perfectly balanced and crafted with care (highly recommend going the martini route). For dinner, everything was cooked to absolute perfection. The filet was tender, rich, and melted in your mouth, paired with creamy mashed potatoes and a sauce that honestly should be bottled and sold. The chicken dish was equally outstanding--juicy, flavorful, and finished with a bright lemon touch that tied everything together. And just when we thought it couldn't get better, dessert arrived. A creamy, indulgent affogato with biscotti crumbles--literally the perfect ending. But what truly elevated the entire experience was our waiter, James. He was beyond fabulous--attentive without hovering, genuinely warm, and made us feel like VIPs the entire night. The kind of service that turns a great meal into a memorable experience. He really tried to make sure I had a good experience and invited me back to enjoy the dining room atmosphere. Because of his excellent service, I left him a 45% cash tip and told him I hoped to return. Unfortunately, the entrée was a big disappointment. I ordered the Linguine Vongole. While the pasta itself was good the kitchen had forced most of the clam shells open split. Having to guess which shellfish might make you sick really ruined the meal. Based on the entree I didn't stay for dessert. Unfortunately not being seated where I originally made a reservation for lead me to an atmosphere of rambling of a drunk sharing some pretty wild ramblings. Between the entrée issue and the drunk distractions, I skipped the rest of the meal, though I really hope the service on a return visit matches the kindness of my main waiter.

I got the replacement burger & fries and they were good - no problems this time. The burger and fries are more than enough for one person (in fact, the two of us split them and still had some leftover fries). Also, as a bonus, they gave us a brussel sprout & bacon side dish. Even though it was sweeter than we normally like, it was very good. In summary this was a big improvement over our earlier experience and we thank Culpers 1778 for giving us the opportunity to try them again.

I tried meals here on three separate occasions, twice on weekends and once during the week. My review depicts the summary of my experiences. Set back in a shopping center, the size of the restaurant is deceiving. The venue is tremendous, and the decor and bar present a welcoming environment. On all occasions, I was greeted right away and walked to my table. On one particular evening, we were seated in the back room. The first thing I noticed were how quickly the food runners were moving through the dining space. There seemed to be an urgency about their movement. The appetizers I've enjoyed were the duck arancini, mushrooms, and the oysters. All served hot, fresh, and the seasoning was on-point. The oysters came with a mini Tabasco sauce bottle and cocktail sauce. I was less enthralled by their entrees, a pattern that was sadly not a one-off or "bad night" for me. The beef Wellington was served well done, even though medium-rare was ordered. On another occasion, I ordered the surf and turf; the filet came out well done instead of medium-rare, and the lobster was rubbery and overly salted. It was served without drawn butter. They cooked another steak for me, but it came out medium (still incorrect) and had no seasoning whatsoever. A bland and tasteless filet after previously eating an underwhelming overcooked beef Wellington was enough for me to deduce that, after two visits, incorrectly cooking steak was not a mistake, but a pattern. Our table was cleared of appetizer plates and utensils, but no new utensils were provided. Our entrees were served shortly thereafter, and began to get cold as we waited for someone to come over and bring us forks and knives. We waited and asked three different people before finally getting some. All of us ordered some type of cocktail or wine with our meals, yet still drank water, and our water glasses were not refilled once during any of my visits. The staff running all over to collect dirty dishes were out of sync with the servers and the kitchen, and unable to get a pulse on the diners. I did not see a manager or any type of supervisor circulating, but these are fixes that can be easily made with proper oversight. Runners were aimlessly running back and forth and just grabbing whatever dishes were done. Their timing was way off. I really wanted to like this place and include it in my regular rotation. I thought with time they would get the rhythm of the dining room down, but I spaced my visits months apart and not much changed. I wish them well, but it will be a pass from me going forward.
