Came here on a summer Saturday night for dinner with a party of 4, no reservations, but surprisingly had no issue of getting a table right as we came in. We had a table near the bar and the ambiance is very pretty, but can be a little dark. Noise level was perfect, could easily talk to everyone without feeling like I was hard of hearing. Service was kind and helpful, but it certainly felt slow. I would have ordered more drinks if they just had come around and checked in on us a touch more frequently! Although it did seem like they might have been down some staff that night, so I don't fully ding them for that. The most convenient parking is the paid lot right in front, but there is some street parking further away if you're willing to walk a little. The real reason you're here though is the food and drinks! Starting with cocktails, I tried their mezcal version of an espresso martini, 43 Espressions, it's a little bolder than your typical espresso martini, but that's what I also like about it more. Also tried the Lavender Fields, which is a delightfully fresh summer/spring cocktail that is very easily sippable. For a quick appetizer I tried the French onion soup, as classic as it ever has been. When you have found perfection, there is no need to try and reinvent it, and luckily they don't! On to the mains. I had Dave's Roasted Chicken. Perfectly cooked and the sides of paella rice and asparagus make an excellent pairing, serving size is the right amount to fill you up. Also tried their tagliatelle with red pepper romesco and skirt steak, which was fresh and not an overwhelming pasta portion like I'm typically used to from any Italian place. For appetizers we got the buttermilk friend calamari that was well seasoned and perfectly crispy. It came with both marinara sauce and aioli. The French onion soup was very flavorful and had a really good tasting piece of bread inside. Entrees were 7oz filet mignon with crispy onions and blue cheese added on top. Had the filet with mashed potatoes. The toppings were definitely worth it! Mashed potatoes had the good homemade taste and texture. Next was the marinated skirt steak with sautéed onions on top. The marinate was great Substituted truffle fries instead of mashed potatoes and the fries were thin, crispy and flavorful. Got sides of broccolini and creamed spinach. Broccolini needed a bit of salt or something, creamed spinach was a bit too salty but overall still good. The cheesecake for dessert was a generous portion. I felt they didn't care if the customer was happy. I was too quick and my daughter called and was told by Nick the bartender/manager that he would like my husband and myself to come and have a dinner on Old Fields. It was my 75th birthday. To say that Nick rectified last week's situation would be an understatement. Once again, the food was delicious and the service was great. Nick couldn't have been more gracious and gave us everything from "soup to nuts."..Clearly this restaurant does care about their clientele's pleasure. The food was great and came out in a good amount of time. The service was stellar, our server Hannah was polite and engaged well with a 8 year old boy, even going as far to draw his stuffed animal on the receipt. It's not just about the food it's about how you feel when walking into a place and not feeling welcome. and it was the other girl with jeans that brought us to our table. And even when we were leaving waiting for our call that same short girl with black pants and white stripes. did the same behavior again. she learned nothing from the other hostess that told her to stop what she was doing . We've been going to Old Fields for years. The food, service and ambience are always good! It's the price $$$$ that really keeps us from coming back more frequently. But our visit on this night was for our anniversary so it got the green light for our special day. Before even looking at the entrees, my eyes immediately found the creme brûlée. From that moment, I knew I would enjoy my evening even more and I did! Our waiter was friendly and attentive. And I somehow neglected to take a photo of the Lychee Martini that my husband ordered. I'm especially sad I missed this photo op because he actually thought it was more delicious than his seafood paella dinner entree. Everyone got their drinks while my glass of wine, a glass of Chardonnay,took a long time, 15-20mins to arrive after everyone else's , with no explanation and no apology. Anyway, I ordered the filet mignon medium rare. The outside of the steak was a thick layer of burnt charcoal, inedible, and the mashed potatoes were too salty to be edible. Others in my party also commented on the poor quality of the food and the disappointment with restaurant . . I left my entire meal and left hungry. We were at this restaurant on a Sunday August (2025). Our calamari were literally soaking in oil/ grease. Not very hot and certainly not very crispy. My chicken entree did not look like a half chicken, beautifully and crispy, which I expected. Instead it was bland/ insipid. And yes! Greasy. My partners pork chop was dry as a dessert bone. The broccolini weren't too bad. My coffee was freshly brewed but semi cold and not even a full cup. Service was responsive but their attire ( including the person who appeared to be the manager) was like a farmers garb but unchanged for 2 weeks. The ambiance was pleasant, almost reminded me of a steak house, although the lights in some corners of the eatery and in the bathrooms were almost non- existent, dark. The fare, for what you get, is way over priced. Perhaps this was an off-day for the restaurant but this was our experience. read more

Steakhouses come and go but Old Fields has been marinating steaks since the 1950's. We got that marinated flank steak and let me tell you, they can marinate steak like nobody's biz! We wanted to have a nice celebratory dinner and it's been a while since we've been in this neck of the woods. Port Jeff will always hold a special place in my heart for many reason. It's changed so much in recent years but it was nice to see Old Fields was here with that rustic feel that goes throughout Port Jeff still. We took our chances with no reservations and we were seated just fine. You feel like you're walking in to a family member's home. It's that warm and inviting. You walk in and straight ahead is the bar and seating area, but just after the host station and to the left is another area where there is additional seating and another room for larger parties. We got a great table by the fireplace (thank god because I'm always cold). I tried the whiskey sangria for my drink and it was perfect for the season, warm with a hint of sweet. For an app we got the waygu meatballs (I was so hungry I forgot to take the pic). Omg, was this a great way to start the meal. Three meatballs lay on a bed of creamy polenta and dressed with tomatoes, basil and Parmesan cheese. For the main event I got the Wild King Salmon. The salmon may have been a tad over cooked but it was still very good. What was actually the star of the dish was the spinach, mushroom and butternut squash that was part of the dish. That wowed me more than the salmon to be honest. Hub's marinated flank steak was a perfect medium rare and came with amazing mashed potatoes that I could definitely taste a hint of rosemary as part of this mash. Whoa were we blown away. My husband and I went to an early dinner at Old Fields this afternoon. This was our first time eating there. We had been there once before when it was as another steak house (Pace's). We were not thrilled when it was Pace's so we have never had the desire to check out Old Fields. Well, we were pleasantly surprised. We were greeted at the door by Nick who took us to our table. He was very friendly, explaining what the restaurant had to offer and gave us time to look over the menu. I ordered the cocktail "Purple Rain" and it was delicious. We ordered an appetizer to share "Tuna Tartare" which we both enjoyed. We decided to order Lobster Mac & Cheese and a Bone in Rib Eye to share. Everything was delicious and perfect. We enjoyed all our decisions. We then decided to order one dessert because we were full but Nick brought out 3 desserts to sample as it was our first experience. Everything couldn't be more on point. It was a beautiful evening with sea breeze and less humidity at Port Jefferson. Outdoor dining was very cheery at the restaurant. Simple, nice table setting. We got there at our reservation sharp at 6 pm. Host sat us down properly with big smiles. Enjoyable. Food we ordered: Calamari was crispy n tender but heavily coded in accessible grease. Artichoke + Arugula salad, my favorite. It was surprising came with 3-4 super duper thin slices of Bresaola! I added grilled chicken, totally unnecessary though. The chicken was fairly DRY. ( I always ask to put dressing on side. They forgot again. But the host took care of it without an issue.) The Old Field burger. I really liked the aged white cheddar used on the moist flavorful but not greasy paddy along with applewood bacon, balanced the entire taste very well. The Turkey burger was good too. Not dry no Turkey smell with good jalapeño kicks. Steaks were a total mistake. Would NOT ordered again. Not only they were served wrong in cold plates ( Good steaks should be served on skillets or hot plates), but also taste sweet. I think it s marinated in some sweet sauce. Korean? Not quite! Weird taste. The meat was soooo dry! It was seriously felt like woodpeckers pecking at trees! The other thing I felt was a bit odd was at the end they used very very cheap, shallow plastic bag wrapped up my leftover container( the particular plastic bag was so thinnnn, jammed and wrinkled like just got out of a Korean kimchi pickle gar), which made the restaurant imagine went down below zero. I wondered, won't it be much classier if used a simple paper bag? The service was good over all. The food did not suited the prices charged. Went to Old Fields for a nice Saturday night dinner out and a stroll by the ferry. Since there are no reservations, we were concerned about it being super crowded and busy on a Saturday night at 7 PM. First, not Old Field's fault but parking can be a bit challenging. Upon arrival, the hostess said we could be seated right away and led us into the noisy bar area. Seated at booth that was a bit narrow provided to be a bit challenging to get in an out of. The other -1/2 point. From here on in, all good. First up, the waiter, attentive, polite and not rushing us as in the case in most understaffed restaurants where the table to wait staff ratio is overwhelming. He inquired about tap or sparkling....and if we cared for anything else to drink. Riesling an Diet Coke. Off he went. We decided on French Onion Soup and bone in rib, Yes, the food and service was the salvation for 4 stars. As previously indicated, service was exceptional throughout the meal. Food, The soup was cheesy, hot and good...a smaller crock not a bigger crock that I have seen at other restaurants. But ok. was still delicious. The beef came out medium rare with a garlic butter other than the medium as ordered Still good and delicious. The mashed potatoes and asparagus, the selected sides were also delicious. OK, here is the real deal. If you have not tried this place I feel sorry for you, you are missing out. Truth be told, we did not have reservations since the restaurant only takes reservations for parties of 6 or more. We had 5. We were told a table would be ready in 30-40 minutes, but it took over an hour. NOT the fault of the restaurant, the customers that were at the table did not want to leave. Regardless the Manager Allison handled it like a true seasoned manager. She offered us apps that were ready as soon as we sat down. Extra points on that! Now on to the main event. The food was top notch. The apps, Mac and cheese, zucchini chips and chicken bits were perfectly prepared. The zucchini and chicken were crispy and not greasy. The main entrees, filet mignon, stripped bass and skirt steak were prepared to perfection. Personally, the skirt steak was beyond tasty. The marinade was a perfect pairing to the steak. The filet was also cooked to perfection and the portion was more than expected. The one thing I would say that topped the experience was the service. Our server Kara was funny, knowledgeable and accommodating. The hostesses were attentive and helpful. Thank God they were not on their phones ignoring customers. Overall great job and experience. So my wife can't get enough of their hamburger. Yep you heard that right. we go to a "Dark wood" Steak house and my wife goes gaga over a burger. Back-off fellas she's all mine!! I've never tried the burger as I prefer mine topped with such luxuries as bacon, cheese and some kind of condiment but she takes her burgers plain. And lest you think that her choice of cheese impacts her impression of the burger, know that cheese have never crossed the love of my lifes' lips. So her burger experience is the purest. Bun, Burger, a dollop of ketchup and more bun. And in all seriousness she has had their burger three times and her feedback is consistent, socks knocked off. Maybe you're thinking what can someone who east such a simple burger know about good versus not as good burgers. The lady I am referring to has had just about everyone's burger. It's her go to dish whenever there is a doubt about what else might suit he fancy on the menu. And again, since she'd never loading the burger up with sauces, garnishes or toppings her opinion isn't clouded by perfectly crisp bacon, the tangiest sauce, or lip-smackinglky sharp cheddar.
