I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to write one after visiting The Coupe this Sunday morning. First of all, our server was pleasant, and promptly offered us coffee (with the signature animal crackers ??) However, after a 40 minute wait for our breakfast order, the food that was delivered was not only cold, but practically inedible. Between my wife and, we ordered pancakes, bacon, scrambled eggs, hash browns and bagels. In addition to everything being cold, the pancakes were paper thin, rubbery and (as banana pancakes) had three tiny pieces of brown banana on top, including the nub. The best way to describe the bacon is cold, salty, chewing gum. Eggs must have been pre-cooked, then served cold. Hash browns, soggy, cold. Bagels, not even frozen food quality. Overall, the food quality was so bad, that I was almost thinking I was being punked as a prank. I actually feel bad writing a bad review, considering I know how difficult the hospitality business is. The manager did come to the table to see if it could be made right. If it was just one thing, it would not have been an issue, but this was a total loss. read more

This place has consistently some of the worst brunch Service. I've been here twice and have yet to see a server appear at my table because I've left after half an hour of sitting at a table waiting for the server to even take the order. And these weren't rush hour, like 3pm, with most of the restaurant empty. On top of that the menu is pretty bland and vanilla. If you're looking for a sit down brunch try anywhere else, like el chucho just a block away. read more

The Coupe is the place to go when you're looking to satisfy any craving, whether it's lunch, brunch, dinner, quick bites, dessert, coffee, wine, beer or cocktails. Their set up is reminiscent of Barking Mad Cafe (in Gaithersburg, MD) because it's layout consists of a bar, dining, and cafe area. Seating is based on a first-come first-served basis due to their philosophy of trying to be as inclusive and accommodating as possible even during their busiest times, which is fair. We came in on a Saturday morning for brunch and amazingly they were able to seat us right away for a party of 6. We ordered the Coupe Special, Coconut French Toast, Chorizo Hash Brown Bowl, Coupe Smash Burger, and Lavender Latte. I was surprised our order came out rather quickly, and it was perfect timing too because we were all very hungry. The food was hot and delicious. I had the Coupe Smash Burger with fries, where the burger was nice and juicy while the fries were beautifully fried crispy. I tried my husband's Chorizo Hash Brown Bowl and man...I know what I will be ordering when we come back. My sister and I each ordered their latte with the lavender syrup. I was so surprised that it was perfectly sweet! Usually I'll have to add a sweetener. Also, apparently it's their signature to add animal crackers on the side with your coffee order--so cute & so unique, my kids loved it (the treat, not the coffee, haha)! Staff had been all-out pleasant, friendly, accommodating and efficient. When it came to paying for the check, I loved how we paid for our order on the spot when our waiter came around to our table. No more waiting 5+ minutes just to checkout! Overall, we have enjoyed our brunching experience at The Couple. I'm already looking forward to coming back again with the whole family! Highly recommend! Their restroom system is also set up in a unique way. There are no separate men's and women's restroom and no doors to indicate "restroom area"; rather, each stall is actually like it's own room with a toilet and a mirror. The sink is located right outside the stalls, so even if you only wanted to wash your hands before & after eating, you're able to do so with ease. read more

I like this place and it was once my favorite in the area but the service has gotten pretty lousy over time. They often forget you're there or just get kind of rude. Particularly when I bring children, they are just very unfriendly. Used to be my nabe go-to but now its just too unpleasant. The food is still quite good. read more

Disappointing! Hostess didn't ever acknowledge us when we walked in and asked for table, she just picked up two silverware sets and two menus and turned away so we followed her to a table. We just arrived in town and stopped by for a late dinner as it was near our Airbnb. Super nice spacious place with great friendly service. We were seated immediately and shared the Brussels sprouts appetizer while we waited for our friend to arrive. Seriously tasty sprouts, probably best ever for me and a good sized portion fine for four. Everyone enjoyed their meals. My BLAT sandwich was served open faced with a fried egg and an aoli with a kick, along with a generous mound of fries. My wife's roasted chicken had a good sized leftover portion to enjoy later. I love that they feature all day breakfast items, which work out great for a late dinner too. They had a good selection of local beers on tap, which was a big plus for me. With all these accolades, why the 4 stars you ask? Well, we cancelled one item but it still showed up on the bill, which was promptly adjusted, but afterwards I noticed we were overcharged for the two beers. I'm a regular at the Coupe as I enjoy the ambience and awesome food. But the slow moving and inattentive staff take away from the dining experience. When you first enter the restaurant, you will see staff huddled together like penguins on an ice flow, staring blankly at you from behind the coffee counter. Eventually, one will venture forward and ask "would you like a table?" Why else would I be standing next to the reception table for five minutes?! Too often, orders are forgotten, servers ghost you for long periods of time, and the place always seems so impersonal. Its disappointing. read more

I had been to all of The Coupe's sister restaurants (Tryst, Open City, the Diner), and while I enjoyed the neighborhood feel of all of them, none of their food had really impressed me that much. But I was excited to try here. I came here with a few friends for a 12:30 Brunch. The restaurant was busy, and they told us it would be a 30 minute wait for a table. It ended up being less of a wait, and the brunch rush started to subside around 1. The service was friendly enough, albeit a bit slow even when the rush subsided. Overall, the food was very solid. Our table split the Couple Fries (a solid take on poutine) and we each got a main plate - half of us going with brunch food, the other lunch. The omelette chorizo my significant other had was fine - the chorizo and ingredients were plentiful, although a bit dry for my taste. I ordered the Coupe Burger with Fries (I was clearly craving potatoes). I really enjoyed the fries, and the burger (asked for medium rare, but cooked a bit more to the rare side) was also good and enjoyable. Overall, this was a good albeit unspectacular experience. As a diner it's a solid choice, one of the better value brunches in DC you're doing to find. If I'm in Columbia Heights for brunch again, I would be open to coming back to The Coupe. read more

My friend ordered steak and eggs but the cut of steak he got was super stingy in size. I wish i had taken a picture to show that narrow little piece of steak that looked like it was cut into 3 servings; No where near in width size like the pic in a review on here from a week ago. I ordered a green smoothie that tasted like a diabetic coma. The server admitted that the only fresh ingredient used is kale and all else comes from concentrated liquid. We use to eat here every weekend. Yes it was always super crowded and the wait is long but the seats at the bar are first come first serve, plus this was our Sunday staple. Loved all of their items but something happened recently (maybe they changed chefs) but they changed their menu and took off two of my favorite things to order for football Sunday, which was the Sriracha wings and the kale Caesar salad. I've been twice since the menu change and the replacement wings and salad options lacked flavor and was just so so. I always wonder why restaurants change their menus and take off the best sellers. Came here on Sunday around lunchtime for a quick latte/tea break. It was slightly crowded but just after the large brunch run and I was able to grab a seat around the crowded bar. I was sitting waiting for someone to approach me for at least 15 minutes. It was so bad that a nearby couple also seemed frustrated and got up left without getting their order in. When I was finally approached, I was greeted with "can you move to another set of seats around the bar. You're not supposed to be sitting here" in a rude tone. I saw two seats around the bar and sat down. I didnt need to be addressed that way and on top of that, my order wasn't even taken after the rude greeting. I waited an additional 5 minutes before I was FINALLY tended to. I ordered a matcha latte which took another 5 minutes to come to me and at the risk of wasting any more time here, I just asked for the check when I got my order. It appears that they are severely understaffed and their staff takes it out on customers. Definitely don't recommend this place for weekend eating at any point. read more

After bringing said customer their coffee, I was asked if I was still waiting on mine. After finishing what I ordered, I was ignored for a solid hour waiting for my check. Once I paid the check (I tipped generously) and for another coffee to go, I waited another solid half hour until I was asked if I was still waiting on that coffee. When I got it, it was the wrong one. After leaving, I called in to kindly let management know where they can improve. It exceeded my expectation. I went on a Saturday afternoon for brunch solo. They were moving really quick to seat everyone, and bring the food out. The hostess sat me down with a cup of water. It took a little while for my waitress to come to my table, so I did have to call someone over. While I waited, I was jamming to music in the restaurant of Top R&B and Afrobeats hits. The presentation of the plating isn't that great, but the flavor is there. Good food, good music, strong drinks. The bourbon chai latte was honestly my favorite part of the meal. A vibe. I have a love-hate relationship with The Coupe. We've been coming here for years, ever since my eldest was a baby, as it is truly a family friendly establishment (and for that, I give them huge kudos). If you come here in the morning, afternoon, or evening, you will see families - and that's a great thing! However, there are some hurdles that The Coupe just hasn't been able to jump that really hold it back from being a great place. From my experience of coming here (by myself, with friends, to telework, for family meals, etc) over a dozen times, here's the breakdown. *The best time to come here is when they first open. The breakfast options are great, and the less crowded it is, the better (or...less mediocre, really) your service will be. I was here at about 10 am today for a few hours to work & eat with fellow WFH friends, and our server (who was super kind) apologized for being frazzled and said she was the ONLY server working. It was 10 in the morning, and the place was absolutely packed by the time I left at 1. I wish I could say this was an isolated incident, but practically every time my husband or I have come here, the wait staff has been completely understaffed and stretched way too thin. I don't know what management is thinking with the severe understaffing. It shouldn't take 20 minutes to get our bill after we've asked for it. *The drinks are great. I believe they are operated by Tryst (hence the cute animal crackers with drink orders) and you can get drinks to go at the bar. I appreciate the high quality teas they have available, and the coffee is great too. *The food is a solid 3 stars. It's just so scattered and I never know if I'm going to have a great experience or leave totally disappointed. We've ordered dinner from here before (maybe 10 entrees total) and had everything be a total hit! I feel like that is a standout experience. However, we've also had dinner here (recently!) and I had to send my dish back not once but TWICE. We've also had meals where certain items or drinks never show up but are on the bill (this has happened at least twice). Sigh. *This is a popular teleworking spot but I'm not sure why as the WiFi connection is truly bad. It was taking me ages just to load emails today (and it wasn't my computer - my two buddies on their laptops had the same slowwwwww connection issues). We will keep coming back to The Coupe and hope it gets better, but I think we're sticking to the early bird breakfast crowd. read more

The food here was horrible. I wish I had taken a photo of how sad the food was. I got the avocado toast, and my partner got the short ribs with grits, and gosh, the food looked so embarrassing. The avocado toast was made with bread from the sale section of the supermarket. It had thickly cut-boiled eggs and three pieces of pickled onions. The short ribs and grits looked canned and tasted like the Great Depression. I wouldn't recommend it, nor would I ever come here again. I think the spot is really nice but the food is fairly mediocre - much like Tryst, its sister restaurant. My friend Sarah and I got the breakfast special, which came with w brick hashbrown, pancakes or French toast, eggs, and a side of meat. It was a fairly good deal for $13 ish but nothing here was particularly standout, just a solid brunch spot. I liked the hash brown and the coconut French toast but that + coffee probably didn't need to be as expensive as it was. I did go back on a Saturday afternoon just to have a coffee and do some work, and it's actually a great vibe for that. I got a chai and an espresso - but the chai was so sweet I ended up just mixing the two which was so much better. Again! Didn't need to be 7.5$ for the pair - but I would probably be back just because of its convenience. Not gonna lie - I passed up getting my favorite Wild Kombucha because it was a whopping $6 - when it really shouldn't be more than 3.5-4. Anyways! Food is 4/5... Customer Service is 3/5.. Very loud restaurant, but good for groups. We came here on a Sunday afternoon after church. This place is very busy and short staff. It took us about 30minutes to find our seat. Took us around 10minute to get our order taken. We tried to flag down a staff member and they said a server will be right with us. However, you are assigned a waiter and cannot ask just any server. Once we were able to get our order in, we tried the veggie grain bowl, coupe fries and chicken biscuit. The coupe fries are very good. A bed of fries with cheese, sweet jalapeños, and short ribs. This dish alone is what was best. Good to share for 2-3 people. The chicken biscuit comes with a choice of grits / hash browns, fried chicken thigh, bacon, eggs and topped with gravy. This dish is okay. Biscuits are pretty thick. I would try the chicken and waffles next time. The veggie grain bowl is way overpriced and not worth it. Anyone can make this dish at home without any culinary experience. We also tried the kale / apple smoothie. This is a very healthy drink and not sweet at all. Overall, I give this place 3 / 5. I probably won't come back here because the service is extremely slow. However, their food is good, but a bit overpriced. I would come back here to socialize with friends because the decor is very nice. Worth coming here once and if you like it, come back. My family and I wanted some quick nearby good food. We often pass by several restaurants on our way to our favorite/ "tried and true" spots. This particular day we opted to try "The Coupe" mainly because of the curb appeal. The indoor/outdoor ambience is so nice. The food and the pricing were also appealing. We ordered a variety of food that particular afternoon. Pancakes, burgers, chicken tenders and salads were purchased. It was rather unbelievable that complaints from my clan were minimal. We eat out 3-4 times weekly so my clan knows a great dining experience from "eating out." The chocolate chip pancakes were rather disappointing. It was literally a hot pancake with chocolate chips added after the pancake was made. The hot pancake was placed on top of the chocolate chips in an effort to melt the chocolate chips. Needless to say, the chocolate chips only melted but so much. My 12 year old chocolate aficionado was crushed. He loves anything chocolate and he was even perturbed by the so called chocolate chip pancakes. Lastly, we were sat outside, on the curb of the restaurant, which was really nice . However, a young couple was sitting directly beside us inside of the restaurant. The only thing separating our parties was a slightly tinted glass window. My 10 year old daughter continued to inadvertently make eye contact with this young couple who appeared to be talking about her (because our seating arrangement was that close). I even had to use a little body language directed at this young couple (mainly the man) in an effort to have them behave a little more respectfully towards my curious little girl. I was thinking "Hey, we were sat here first by our waitress and we both should be able to enjoy our dining experience." These two lovebirds must not have any kids and maybe don't want any but this establishment seemed like one who welcomes all. Overall, the restaurant was pretty cool. Other than the chocolate chip pancakes and the close proximity seating related issue, I think that we will be back to visit The Coupe in the near future. read more

Third time here, same experience each time. The food is delicious and consistent each time. The place has a cool vibe and is decorated nicely, but the service is always lacking. The seating system is broken and when you find your own seat it takes 5-10 min before a server even acknowledged you. If you do come here, plan on that 5-10 min wait, another 10 for drinks, 25-30 for food, and if you want to pay your bill you'll have to track down your sever. Not saying don't go here, but if they had a little management of the floor this place could earn more stars! read more

Favorite brunch spot in Park View! They have a large patio so be sure to get there early to snag a table. They are dog friendly with plenty of treats and water bowls for your pup. Their menu is it a little limited. I would lean this place 3.5 stars, only because some things lacked. It's a place called the coupe with a chicken/rooster as their decoration and every food item had bacon or pork. I ordered their lavender almond milk iced coffee since they didn't have any smoothies. Which was alright, their coffee was extremely bitter. For my meal, I got their hashbrown bowl, but swapping the bacon for avocado. This was actually really good! Really simple, but a little heavy. I also got a side of their chicken sausage, which I thought was terrible. However, overall this was a nice place to be at, with pretty decent service. The food was tasty otherwise, but it's hard to enjoy cold breakfast food. The chai latte was the best thing about my meal. They do team serving so service was a little unreliable. Nice, standard brunch spot walking distance from Columbia Heights metro. The all day brunch and all day lunch menus are a bit limited, had hoped for a bit more variety. Huevos Rancheros was a generous but reasonable portion size. Cute touch that they serve coffee drinks with animal crackers. Our server was very friendly and attentive.
