This bustling bistro offers French classics for brunch through dinner. The dining space is elegant, but quite crowded, and although it is loud in the restaurant, the servers speak very quietly. We had a bit of a hard time hearing what they had to say. We were there for brunch, and the food we tried was good. We had the Caesar salad and quiche. The crust on the quiche was buttery and flaky. read more

Went here for the first time for a cute outdoor brunch over the weekend and it was nice! It's a cute place and a lovely street, and the host/server was super sweet and helpful. The food was good, though not mind-blowing, but we just got the hangover burger and an omelette so probably not what they're best at. The burger was just okay. It's a cute place though and would recommend! read more

Had a fun lil happy hour here on a Friday evening. I had the Oui Mademoiselle which was unique and not too sweet. My partner had the Old Fashioned, which also had mezcal in it, giving a nice smoky finish. The crispy tuna tacos were small but tasty, and the french fries were like my dream fry - thin, crispy with some texture to them. Service was quick, and the atmosphere was cozy, but not too close to the people next to you. They give you a warm, wet towel for your hands before your meal! Nice touch. Came back here on a Thursday for Diplomat Night - steak frites and a martini for $42! Fabulous deal, and will definitely be back to take advantage again read more

I had another great meal at the Consulate on the UWS with my mom. We dined on a weekend evening- I have usually only been here on weekends earlier in the day or weeknights and we did find the noise level inside to be too loud- this can easilu be rectified next time by requesting a quieter table by the windows. I did find the service on paat visits to also be better, but other staff members and the manager did notice when we had been waiting a while with empty plates and then were waiting to order dessert and pay the bill and they took care of us. I will chalk this up to it being a busy weekend as past visits here have featured exceptional service Brussels & Kale Salad Dinner- very tasty- would have loved even more apple $23 Chef's complimentary Amuse Bouche salmon tartare- really stole the show- we would order this next time! My mom doesn't usually go for raw fish and loved it! $0 Short Rib Cavatelli Dinner- my favorite item- so delicious and sheep cheese on top $37 I dream about this dish! The week before I dined at The Smith by Lincoln Square and ordered their short rib pasta- it was SUCH a let down- NO short rib and barely any sauce, similar price to The Consulate, so my mom and I joked that tonight's was a bowl of "redemption short rib" Wild Mushrooms Truffle Flatbread - $24 Madw with goat cheese- my mom and dad's favorite menu item- mom loved it Sticky toffee cake - $15 This was a dessert special and had dates in it, was divine! Receipt for dinner for 2 - before inKind promos - 2 apps, 1 entree, 1 dessert $107.79 post tax, pre-tip . Total post inkind post 22% tip: $91.46 I appreciate that the consulate is on the InKind app and I can use my earned cashback as well as promo offers. Using inkind to pay, I was able to get $25 off the bill and earn 20% cashback for future trips read more

We went to The Consulate for lunch on Christmas morning. The restaurant serves its lunch menu until 2 p.m., after which it switches to the dinner menu, so we ended up ordering from both. The restaurant had a very festive, Christmassy decor, and the space was filled with families enjoying their meal together. We ordered a few dishes for the table, including the ceviche, shrimp cocktail, and deviled eggs. I ordered a Nicoise salad for myself and paired it with a berry-based mocktail. The salad was very fresh and delicious, and the mocktail complemented the food well. I especially enjoyed the ceviche, which was made with fluke. The short rib pasta was also excellent. The server was kind and attentive, and overall it was a very good experience. We had a wonderful time dining here. read more

Came here with my coworkers and really enjoyed it! It's intimate vibes and very dark inside. Good: - The food was all so high quality - despite being more pricey - The lamb tartar was very fresh and the bread it came with was also very tasty and toasty - The beef pasta dish was very good, the texture was good and the flavoring was just right too - The ceviche was fresh and very palette cleansing Bad: - The table was a bit small for four people - Portion sizes are pretty tiny for the price - Food took a while to get here but the staff were still nice Overall a really great fancy spot to go with friends for a more intimate dinner setting! read more

Hugely impressed with our experience at The Consulate. Really charming French restaurant on the Upper West Side! We ordered a variety of items to split, and loved all of them. My favorite was the mushroom flatbread and the sliders, but really tough call. Everything was truly great! The ambiance was lovely as well, would for sure return. read more

Came here for happy hour on a beautiful Tuesday afternoon and it was absolutely spectacular. They have a nice outdoor seating area. The restaurant was pretty empty and quiet around 4pm. The weather was perfect, they had all of the doors & windows open providing the perfect indoor/outdoor type of vibe. We got the Wild Mushroom Pinza bread ($16), it was a perfect snack for two people to share. We also tried the "Oui Mademoiselle" cocktail ($14 each), it was tiny but very tasty, the blackberry purée was prominent so maybe try something else if you're not a blackberry fan. After that, we ordered dirty vodka martinis - they were made to perfection. Overall wonderful atmosphere and a solid happy hour, would definitely come back here!! read more

Cool and inviting. Food: Absolutely outstanding. Every dish we tried was exceptional. Service: Good, though there's room to improve. Missed Items: Unfortunately, they forgot to bring the barada corn salad I was really hoping for--but everything else made up for it. read more

I had an amazing brunch here with a friend during snowfall this weekend and it was such a comforting stop for us with great vibes. Yes....yes...and yesss..of course I'm not a fan of French cuisine. Just never been my thing, However it's in my neighborhood and I was pulled in by the decor. A beautiful sunny afternoon and inside just screams lavish but opulent. It wasn't pompous, but so inviting. Definitely welcoming ..now the menu was their brunch menu ..prices were affordable with a an array of options ..of course I went with the escargot...(first time) ..impressed ..NOW WHAT REALLY HAD ME ; was their drinks ....EXCELLENT! The prices and the service ...I must come back and give it another go ..come with a friend or a good date night ..it's fly read more

Our party of three had a decent meal at The Consulate on a recent Monday night... The place itself has a really cool vibe... It's French Brasserie meets Modern American Steakhouse vibes and It's perfect for a business meal. We shared a nice bottle of red wine and a dozen oysters, a Crab Cake, Filet, Steak Frites, Brussels Sprouts and a Caesar Salad amongst the three of us. While it was all fine, none of the food blew me away. The service was good but not overly attentive. Given the fact that there are so many incredible dining options in NYC, I probably would not return. read more

Food is great to the point that it's memorable. Escargot and beef short ribs (w ricotta and pasta) were super yum. Portions are medium - not tiny, not huge - the restaurant is pricey but you leave full with leftovers. Wine was super, service excellent, really no complaints. It is loud inside, music fairly loud, but ambience is nice and we could hear (mostly). Had reservations on a Friday night but didn't really need them I think. Only not 5 stars bc a coupe of the apps were kind of bland. Fancy but not tasty. I'd recommend this place for a very good, classy meal if you're not on a budget. read more

Welcoming staff from the hostess, Bibi as well as another gentleman who took our order. The drinks were made great, the oysters and truffle fries were delicious. Interiors decor & music beautiful . We spent the entire warm and sunny December morning with our twins (age 4) in Central Park. Other more "family" restaurants too crowded, so we decided we'd try a French brunch at the Consulate, which I adore. They understood they had to be on very good behavior! The pineapple juice was a hit. The gigantic pancakes with berries and whip cream were a homerun. Husband devoured the hangover burger (he wasn't!) and I enjoyed the amazing Croque Monsieur with fabulous salad. Their fries are so crispy and divine. Although the Consulate doesn't even have a children's menu, the host and servers were so kind and attentive to our granddaughters. We arrived with scooters, and the host tucked them away. We sat in their enclosed outer area and the twins felt grown up. Food was bountiful and perfect. The twins loved the Christmas tree and even the pretty wallpaper in the bathroom! A wonderful Christmas season memory for all now. Merci to the superb staff at The Consulate! read more

I came here for my bday. The vibe of the restaurant was absolutely stunning however the service was a little hit and miss. First of all it took a very long time for the food to come up. When the food was up we had to wait and asked for the needed utensils. For example, we ordered a French onion soup and they just brought us the food without any spoon. Same went for the tuna tartare, we were waiting for our forks but ended eating it with the little condiment spoon from the oysters tower. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to eat with my fingers or a knife/fork. We asked for the spoon and the waitress totally forgot about it until later. I'm not sure if it was because the waitress was overwhelmed with the full house of guests or she was just inexperienced. The food overall was ok. Nothing really stood out and gave us a wow factor that we will want to come back a second time. read more

We stopped here for Sunday brunch after a visit to the AMNH. We were warmly greeted and seated quickly for our big group. Love the inside; it's a mix between classic and modern. The music choices were also spot on. Service may not have been an effusive server, but he was definitely efficient and accurate. Big big kudos to the staff who kept refilling our water glasses MULTIPLE times without prompting. The food varied from pretty good to great. I had an avocado toast with "bacon" (which was really canadian bacon). The avocado was particularly fresh and the scrambled eggs were still a bit moist and rich which is how they should be done. The mixed greens were simple yet tasty. The nutella waffle was also quite good with terrific fresh strawberries and blueberries. But the lobster eggs benedict was a bit of a miss, with the lobster on the side of it and just didn't have that fresh lobster feeling. You're better off with the standard eggs benny. Others enjoyed the french toast and the burrata waffle (with prosciutto). For the price point though, we should expect even more. If you're going to charge a premium then you've got to nail it 24/7. This fell a bit short. Still, it was a great choice for Sunday brunch and would gladly go back again. read more

Food and drinks were meh and service was ok. We went during happy hour and didn't eat much so maybe will try again

Really delicious meal with friendly attentive service! My favs were the truffle mushroom flatbread, French onion soup and consulate burger with crispy fries. Also the special uni small scallops squid ink pasta was very creamy & flavorful, it was $48. Came here for early Mother's Day celebration, for an earlier dinner 5pm Saturday then started to get really busy. Apps and entrees came out in a decent time but then dessert took a while to come, like 20 minutes - it was just cheesecake & tiramisu which we thought would be quick. Overall it was a nice meal but very pricey. read more

I'm writing this review strictly on my 2 experiences trying to arrange for a group of seniors to book an upcoming luncheon in this venue. I phoned on April 5th but it was difficult to hear the woman due to the loud background noise. She said she was near the bar and asked that I send details about the date and number of guests via email. I did so after ending the call. When no response came in a week, I called again on April 12. Again loud background noise but this time my call was transferred to someone who could help me. The gentleman was polite and apologized for not responding to my April 5th email. He gave me his personal email and promised a reply by Monday, April 14 with a suggested Fixed Price Lunch for our group of about 20 people. When no email or phone call came, I contacted other restaurants. This time the owner of another restaurant provided me with a fixed price menu [including tax/gratuities] and, as a bonus, a private room! The owner emailed a confirmation with details of the Fixed Price menu, available dates in June within an hour of my inquiry. Needless to say, I gave up pursuing The Consulate for a group luncheon. read more

Came for dinner here with my friends, after a colleague at work recommended it. This restaurant opened recently, and they really paid attention to all the details. We shared appetizers, and everything (except mussels, Did not try, not a fan of it) we had was delicious. Food had prefect flavor balance, and the texture of the Scallops Tartare was my favorite. The ambiance is just perfect for a nice dinner with friends, but also has the feel that you can come here on a date (which I would probably do, great way to impress). The service was just the way I love it, engaging enough, but never felt disturbed. They really pay attention to details! read more

I thought for sure I had reviewed this place but I guess not. About a year ago, while strolling through the Upper West Side, we walked by The Consulate and thought "oh that looks nice". When the restaurant we were walking to turned out to be full, we strolled back and it looked like there were tables available here so we stopped and snagged an outside table. Drinks and food were tasty. The service was friendly but they were likely short staffed as it took time to be able to put in orders, get food and especially get the check and pay it. But that's a struggle everyone is facing these days so I'm not going to ding them for that. I'd love technology that would (like I've seen at Applebee's of all places) that let you pay the bill at your table so you can leave when you're done rather than waiting 20 minutes to pay the bill. read more

Tried the Tuna Niscoise salad Grilled octopus salad When the two salads came out, I was overwhelmed by a seafood smell but surprisingly they both tasted good. The tuna steak was nicely cooked and tasted fresh. Truffle fries - came out without truffle so they just took it back and drizzled truffle oil on it Pork Tacos - 2 very big tacos with the double tortilla Gnocchi with Truffle - was mostly cream Steak Frites - main reason for the rating is that the steak was completely well done (instead of medium rare) and the sauce was bland yet salty at the same time. Completely overpriced at $51 read more

Visited for Restaurant Week. I love that the host offers to take your coat and hang it upon entrance, very classy. The ambiance is lovely, dim lighting, not too loud, beautiful decor. We were seated in the back, along the wall, where the tables seem closer together, not uncomfortably so, but enough that you can hear other conversations easily. The RW menu had fantastic options, I had the Winter Burrata to start (mouth watering!) and the scallops with celeriac in a beurre blanc sauce as the main course. To finish the meal, blueberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was divine. My water glass was never empty, the courses came out with perfect timing and the dishes were cleared quickly. We felt no pressure to hurry, it was an all around delightful dining experience. Highly recommend! If I had one critique it's that I would love to see non-alcoholic wines on the menu. There were mocktails available but I'd really love to see more restaurants with extensive wine lists offering a nonalcoholic option! read more

This place was solid. Really good food, ambience and service, however I wasn't blown away. It was all incredibly delicious and satisfying but for the price I expected a little more. My favorite dishes were the filet mignon and the short rib cavatelli. They definitely have their meat figured out. I didn't love the mushroom flatbread. The flatbread in general was not high quality. The gnocchi was okay but again nothing crazy. THE DRINKS WERE SO GOOD.
