Really nice dinner at the cozy Cafe Luxembourg in UWS. Had a great salmon with Caesar salad and fish was excellent. Service was super nice and fast. Nice old-school vibe.

This visit left me let down -- the place has been my neighborhood benchmark for a long time, and this meal fell short of it. It's also gotten too crowded these days, and the room doesn't feel as pleasant as it used to. The steak was the culprit: it tasted as though it had been thawed right before hitting the pan, thin and watery, nowhere near the version I remember. My wife's pasta held up fine, and at least the fries were ok

The Good: Food was delish through and through. Croque Monsieur, Steak Tartare, Moule Frites, Salad and Onion soup. My family and I loved them all. Service was also impeccable! The Bad: Spot seems to be only nice and clean place in an area that was once nice when I lived here in the neighborhood. The Ugly: A bit out of the way from Midtown Manhattan, where we are currently staying, but could also be a nice "getaway" since it's a tiny bit mire subdued in terms of busyness.

Cute little French spot for a Sunday afternoon late lunch. We arrived a bit early but the host was able to seat us right away. I almost gave this place four stars bc the table was so tiny but!...this is NYC! and I forget that most restaurants have to be tiny. Our server was wonderful, who we teased looked like Steve Harrington from Stranger Things. Everything was delicious from French onion soup, to my steak, to the fries. They were the crispiest fries ever! Definitely would dine here again when in the area.

It was in between lunch and dinner, yet we were able to get seated. The area we were sitting the chair I was sitting in got bumped a few times, due to spacing of back to back chairs, but the servers were aware and apologetic. Everyone did a fantastic job! The atmosphere was inviting. The cheeseburger and dessert were delicious.

This food was awesome! We had a light lunch with desert and adult beverages. The Manhattan is great, and so is the French onion soup. My partner had the buffalo chicken dumplings and they were tasty. Desert was amazing! The mint chocolate chip ice cream tastes like a mint leaf exploding in your mouth. The crème brûlée was just right. We are out of town visiting but will definitely come back to explore the full menu!

Stopped by for inbetween lunch and dinner. We had a cheese burger and grilled cheese sandwich. Both were excellent. Service was great - we were inbetween so we had 3 different servers as the others were done with their shift. Dessert was very good. Profiteroles. Restaurant was clean and bright. Will need to come back for dinner sometime. Heard their steak tartare is amazing.

Super cute French restaurant on the UWS. Came here for lunch on a weekday and it wasn't too crowded. Service was fast and friendly. Ambiance is very cozy and Parisian-- kinda wish the seating was better spaced out though, because it would was hard to get around the restaurant! - Moules frites: 9/10 (pretty good moules frites with a strong garlic flavor) Overall, I'd try to come back in the evening when the weather is good, so I can sit outside. Not a bad option when you're looking for a restaurant in the UWS.

We came here to have dinner last week & it was amazing! Excellent, super attentive service & super delicious foods! We ordered: 1) Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail, 2) Frank Frites, 3) Steak Frites, 4) Pan Seared Branzino, 5) Chocolate chip cookies w/ vanilla ice cream, 6) Creme Brulee. Jumbo Shrimp Cocktail - WOW! We had no expectations w/ this, but the shrimps were so succulent, juicy and high quality. It was probably one of the best shrimps I have had in awhile. The dipping sauces (cocktail & mustard remoulade) they gave us elevated the shrimps even more + the shrimps itself were superb. Highly recommend to order this! We were sad that there was only 4 pieces only. Frank Frites w/ garlic butter & fries - Super delicious & they cooked it perfectly. Steak was well seasoned & when eaten w/ the garlic butter it was exceptional! Loved the fries as well as they were well seasoned. This place does an excellent steak! Highly recommended! Steak Frites w/ garlic butter & fries - Also super delicious & cooked to perfection. It was well seasoned & that garlic butter was crack. Fries were so delicious & seasoned well. Highly recommended! Pan Seared Branzino - The branzino was seasoned so well & seared to perfection. The cucumbers, green dressing, hummus & lemon yogurt elevated the branzino. I truly enjoyed this entree. My only compliant is that the portion was so small compared to the steak. I was still hungry. Chocolate chip cookies w/ vanilla ice cream - The chocolate chip cookies & vanilla ice cream was ok. I have eaten better. Creme Brulee - WOW! I highly recommend this dessert. It was one of the best creme brulee I have eaten & my friends also agreed. We all were shocked how fresh & delicious it was. Staff was excellent. Tons of seating inside & outdoor. This place can get very busy, so do make a reservation.

Adorable location and classic brunch spot. Went with a friend over late brunch and had no Rez.. only had to wait 20 minutes and were able to get a table. Definitely a busy location but service and food were both great. Enjoyed Benedict, buffalo dumplings, and egg sandwich. overall recommend

We were going to a show at Beacon Theatre on a Friday night so decided to stop at Cafe Luxembourg. We arrived at around 5pm without a reservation but they were able to seat us. We timed it well as about 20 minutes after we arrived the place was completely full. We had never visited this restaurant before but the atmosphere was great and it felt like being in a bistro in France. We started with the Oysters, which were lovely and fresh. I then ordered the molues frites and my other half ordered the branzino. Both of us loved our dishes, the sauce with the mussels was so tasty and I highly recommend asking for some bread to mop the leftover sauce up. We decided to share the lemon meringue dessert, which had the perfect balance between lemon tartness and the sweetness of the meringue. Service was prompt without ever feeling rushed and our server was very attentive. Prices are a little high but given the area that is to be expected. There is nothing groundbreaking with this place, it's just classic food done well. We also shared a bottle of wine and our total bill, including tax and tip, was $260. A little expensive but to be expected for the area. We both agreed that if we had another show at the Beacon we would probably stop here again.

I haven't been here for 20 years and today I realized what a mistake that has been! This is one of the original places TO BE in the early 90's and if it reminds you of Balthazar or Lucky Strike or Pastis it's because this used to be owned by Keith McNally and his now ex wife but now owner of this place now! I ordered the Luxembourg hamburger with cheddar and fries and my friends has the fish and chips and chicken salad ! The atmosphere was pleasant and the service was stellar just as it was 20 years ago! Please go visit this for breakfast lunch or dinner and definitely make a reservation! Run don't walk !

Adding this establishment to my growing list of bars where the bartender's arrogance dramatically exceeds his mixological competence.

    Is the onion soup vegetarian?

No. It's made with veal stock.

What is the dress code for dinner?

You can wear anything you want. This is actually a neighborhood restaurant so casual is perfectly appropriate.

We reserved for a quick bite at Redeye Grill before catching Dog Day Afternoon on Broadway, but as soon as we walked up, some bouncer told us they were closed for a private wedding reception. We were dazed and confused because how was I able to reserve online? But the real plot twist was that it ended up being the best thing that happened. We actually stumbled into Tanner Smith's thinking it'd be the typical, boring bar-food spot. Nope. They first sat us at a hi-top by the door, but that wasn't our vibe, so we grabbed seats at the bar instead. Best decision. Our bartender, Josiah, was absolutely killing it. My cocktail had passion fruit, so of course I asked my usual question: "But is it real passion fruit?" He just nodded in agreement and that told me everything I needed to know. That drink was legit and had nice strength. The food was great too. My fish tacos were packed with fresh fish, the guacamole and salsa were chunky and full of flavor and hubs enjoyed his pastrami sandwich. I have no clue when we'll be back in Midtown, but one thing's for sure- we're sitting with Josiah again.

Both dishes were great and filling. The cauliflower had a lot of bold flavors! The onion ring on top of the Mac and cheese was a nice touch. Two-part, proper settle, tight dome, no rushing it. That's rarer than it should be in Midtown where half the bars treat a stout like a lager. Whoever's behind the bar here has been trained or grew up around it. Food's better than a second-floor pub between 5th and 6th has any right to be. The JRB burger comes on a house-ground patty (they grind in-house, and you can tell, loose texture, actual seasoning), caramelized onions cooked down all the way, not just softened, good cheese pull. Fried pickles on the side had a crisp cornmeal shell and stayed crunchy under the burger juices, which never happens. Buttermilk chicken salad was the surprise. Chicken actually brined, crust stayed on, greens weren't an afterthought. Only real knock: music was loud. Not sports-bar loud, more like the bartender's playlist got away from him. Fine at the bar, harder at a table if you want to talk. Room's got real bones. Reclaimed barn wood, old rail track as a foot rest, that big 45-star flag on the wall. Been here almost 20 years and it's aged into itself. For the neighborhood the pricing's fair. Beats P.J. Clarke's on the burger, loses on quiet. Go for a beer and a burger, not a date.
