Affogato and apple crumb in the back
Edward R.

Ambiance: After many years (late 90s) i finally visit this restaurant, at this point definitely old nyc style vibe. Food great olive oil and garlic flavors stuck out. Drinks: just where it should, food though is the marquee. Service: super friendly and welcoming. Food came out super quick and very hot!!! Luv it. Affogato was surprisingly very good with the coffee and gelato combo, apple crumb had nice large pieces, with real homemade feeling apples.

Came here after Thanksgiving! It was pretty busy and was packed! The ambiance was lively and our servers seemed new(?). We loved their pastas and desserts. Our table ordered some wines, and a tasty Italian soda. We then ordered a couple salads to share for the table which were fresh and yummy. For the mains, we got the branzino, the Bolognese pasta and the truffle / mushroom pasta. Everything tasted great and flavourful. But to our surprise, in the last few bites of the truffle / mushroom pasta, we found a dead worm(!) which really dampered our whole experience! We reported it to the server and they took off the mushroom pastas and wines from our bill. We appreciated the gesture. But to someone who is absolutely terrified of bugs, that definitely left a poor taste in my mouth! At the end, we ordered the tiramisu and that made me feel a lot more satisfied.

On a day we got caught in a summer storm, we randomly found refuge at Pappardella. They fortunately for us were able to put us in the covered patio. They've been very helpful at the reception as they were full that night. It was perfect as it was warm outside and a great way to enjoy the rain without suffering from it. Now, the food, it was a delightful surprise, the pasta was full of flavor and perfectly cooked. Exactly what we needed and an amazing discovery in the UWS.

Lobster ravioli was good & had the best sauce. Flat bread was good & big enough to split if you weren't too hungry. Good wine

Delicious!!!!!! Amazing Italian food!! Would love to come back again. Thank you! :)

Ricotta di Bufala

Wow, just wow... I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this place. The ambiance, the service, the food. I loved that it was a smaller restaurant with less than 20 tables. I have celiac disease so when I see a gluten free menu I jump for joy! I had the Ricotta di Bufala, Pollo al Parmigiano, and the Torta di Cioccolato. Every bite of food was flavorful and delicious. I want to go back to NY just to come to this restaurant. 10/10 highly recommend!

Everything was amazing. The food, the service, the ambiance, everything. We also ordered pizzas as entrees which were really good too. Totally worth going here. The place feels very cozy, the food was delicious and our server was very polite and helpful. No complaints of this place. The only "bad" thing are the prices, but you are in NYC, so you can't expect less than that. I would say it's totally reasonable by how good everything was.

The Bolognese!

My husband is a Bolognese fanatic. He said this was the best he ever had! (It is made with beef short rib and brisket) I had the sea trout special which was perfectly cooked and amazing! Service was great, ambiance was cozy. Will definitely go again soon.

Regular chicken parm

My friend and I were excited to try this restaurant and they did not disappoint. My friend has celiac and we were drawn to this restaurant because of their extensive gluten free menu. There were so many things for her to pick from that she normally does not get the chance to eat. We both had chicken parm (hers gluten free and mine regular) and shared the whipped Buffalo ricotta. The chicken parm came with so much food and was delightfully crispy. We then shared the gf cheesecake (another menu item my friend doesn't get to eat often) and love it! We will definitely be back to try more

I'm actually surprised that this restaurant doesn't have more stars. I selected it because I had some guests in town who are gluten free and this restaurant is one of the few gf friendly Italian restaurants. They have an entire menu that's gluten free only. It's very impressive. They even do gluten free garlic bread. It's very extensive. When I came here we were a party of seven on a Saturday evening. We had a reservation. The restaurant is pretty small but it didn't feel too cramped. The hostess came around often to make sure we were taken care of. The food was excellent. While I'm not gluten free myself, those who ate from the gluten free menu said the pasta tasted like the real deal. They couldn't even notice a difference apparently. That's impressive. One person said the eggplant parm was one of the best he's ever had. Overall, I think it's a great neighborhood find, particularly if you're gluten free or dining with someone who is.

Chicken parm on ciabatta

Terrific. Nice ambience. Chicken parm with bursts and rose sauce is one of the best sandwiches I've ever ate. Australian server was great. Three drinks and two sandwiches under $97. Reasonable by NY standards. Go ther

As I walked in and saw just how swanky this place is I panicked - there was no way we could just walk in here without a reservation, right? But the hostess was, thankfully, so down to earth. I was straight up like hey I totally messed up and thought we could just walk in here, she was like you know what, let me see what we have. Lo and behold, she did have a table for us - as long as we were out in an hour and a half, which was just the right amount of time. Stepping into this place feels like you're in some secret, super special cocktail club. Decor is super high end, vibes are upscale AF. The cocktail menu is incredible -- and incredibly pricey, but truly worth it. I ordered the Valentino which was strong and sweet, really well made. They gave out a complimentary nut mix that was also delicious. Service was swift and gracious. If you're looking for a spot to impress a date, this is it.

There's also seating on the second floor, perfect for couples or small groups. I tried two of their cocktails when I went. The first was the Eastern Julep, a delicious twist on a classic. The mint Moroccan tea gave the drink a cool, refreshing taste on every sip. I also tried the Silver Screen, the closest drink I could find to an old fashioned. It was interesting, there was definitely a hint of a buttery taste. Overall a really balanced bourbon drink. I walked in and found room at the standing tables. A bar seat eventually opened up but I was already on my second drink by then. Definitely make reservations if you're planning a visit!

The bar seating was plentiful and comfortable. There is plenty of space for people to stand behind the bar or a high top tables enjoying happy hour after work. If you go at 4:30 or 5, it's a bit calmer as the after work crowd trickles in. And as the evening went on, it started to get more and more packed, and it became a really lively vibe. After my friend left for another function, I stuck around a little bit longer for a little solo dinner. I had a glass of Prosecco off the happy hour menu followed by a dirty martini, and I did request to look at their full dinner menu because there was a couple items that I wanted to try. I wanted to try the duck Ragu and halloumi cheese, both of which were absolutely fantastic. The halloumi cheese was perfectly grilled and flavorful, and the duck Ragu was very comforting. I highly recommend both dishes. I ended up chatting with a woman sitting next to me who happened to work with select apertivo, and next thing I know one of the bartenders handed me a lovely bright cocktail to try on the house. It was a refreshing bubbly Barlume spritz that I'll definitely have to get again next time. Overall, I had a really great time at Barlume. The service was excellent from the servers and the bartenders, and they were all very attentive, personable and friendly throughout the evening. I'll definitely be back for happy hour or dinner with friends!

It's been a minute since we'd dined out (life on the other side of having a kid has been DIFFERENT…read morey'all) so we decided to go check Barlume out. Did you know this is where the Beecher's used to be?! RIP, I miss their Mac n cheese.... the vibe is completely different now (think extravagant Mediterranean vibes, it's very instagram-mable with the beautiful bar area). I had made a reservation for 5:30 (again, life with a baby is very different)- we arrived early but the staff were very gracious and were able to get us seated. They seated us in a side alcove area where they had cushioned seating, which was very helpful. What we Ordered: Drinks: Barlume Spritz and Hibiscus Mule (N/A cocktail)- drinks were good, nothing too special but we appreciated the cute stirrers Appetizer: Halloumi- grilled halloumi with roasted eggplant puree. The saltiness of the halloumi went so well with the creaminess of the eggplant. (Baby liked the eggplant puree too hah) Entrees: Lobster Arrabiatta and Duck Ragu and Truffle Pizza. My husband got the lobster arrabiatta and was raving about how delicious it was. He said it was the perfect level of spice. My duck ragu was served with busiate (a corkscrew shaped pasta) which I thought 'trapped' the sauce perfectly so you get a nice saucy bite each time. Pasta was perfectly al dente- my one gripe is that I felt the duck ragu was a bit too salty, which even managed to overpower the tomato flavor. We shared the truffle pizza, which came topped off with stracciatella, porcini mushrooms and shaved truffles. I liked the porcini mushrooms on the pizza, this was a first for me. For dessert (which we had to gobble down quickly because baby was starting to get fussy) we got the pistachio cake. SAVE SPACE IN YOUR STOMACH FOR THIS ONE!!! This was my favorite in the whole meal, the kataifi gives it that wonderful crumbliness and it went soooo well with the mango sorbet that's served with it. Recommend for a nice dinner with friends or a cool place to grab drinks! 4.5 stars

After a while the bar tender finally acknowledged me. In the mean time I've made my selection. Cabernet Sauvignon, Garlic Shrimp, Seared Skirt Steak. One star off for serving Cabernet Sauvignon at room temperature. A full-bodied red like Cabernet Sauvignon is commonly served at roughly 55°F to 65°F or 15°C to 18°C, not at 72ºF. The shrimps arrived first, cooked properly and quite tasty. The skirt steak was next. Although tasty it was on the chewy side. Compared to other Tapas bars, it's OK, I would return

It's a small area with the tables pretty close together. We were given a table in the far corner, which was perfect for comfort and looking out at the restaurant. Two of us each ordered a glass of house wine, which were "ok." We opted for the Boqueria Experience, which is $65 per person and includes a variety of chef-selected tapas, a paella and an order of the restaurant's special JAMÓN IBÉRICO DE BELLOTA, which is described on the charcuterie menu as aged 48 months, with deep marbling, rich and nutty flavor. We enjoyed most of the tapas, including the potatoes, the beef/lamb balls, the salad and bruschetta. The croquettes were "ok" with the heavy aeoli masking some of the flavor. The seafood paella was good and was different from ones I've had in the past, with the caramelized layer on the bottom. Yum. Honestly, none of us was a big fan of the Jamon Iberico de Bellota. I'm sure it's special and luxurious, but we found it not to have much flavor. Frankly, it was a big disappointment for us. The service was beyond excellent. We were very pleased with the timing of the presentation of the meal, the superb water service and the general enthusiasm and pleasantness of the Staff. We will come back and try different items on the ala carte menu. I thought there would be more seafood and meat tapas offerings in the "Experience". Instead, it was a lot of cheese, vegetables, dates and bread. Although $65 per person likely was a good value for what we got, I think the tapas items were heavy on the lower cost tapas and that it wasn't a true top-of-the-line "Experience". A seafood dish or even a chicken dish (chicken wings) instead of one of the two croquette offerings would have helped.
