Cant believe the poor ratings on this place...gonna set the record straight from my POV. Been here twice, and had great service and ambiance both times. It is a warm family atmosphere but had seen a few groups of grown and younger friends at nearby tables both times we ate in. This time we ordered in because I am recovering from surgery and this hit the spot!! First, Caesar here is excellent and a touch different...with a bit of horseradish....love it! Apps1) Fried mozzarella in spicy sauce takes me back to spedini alla romagna at Angelo's of Mulberry Street when I was a kid...deadly delicious. 2) Garlic bread is mushy...not burnt, ok to nice, not great. Mains 1) chicken parm delicious but the side pasta is nothing special, 2) oricchetti with sausages and broccoli rabe delicious, 3) im not a lasagna person , but mom, daughter and wife loved the Norma Lasagna, I had a taste and with all the veggies can see it is better than most...4) had chicken piccata, which is good, but nobody does that better than my wife IMO, so not surprising...liked the spinach with that but not the mashed potatoes. read more

Ambiance: After many years (late 90s) i finally visit this restaurant, at this point definitely old nyc style vibe. Food great olive oil and garlic flavors stuck out. Came here after Thanksgiving! It was pretty busy and was packed! The ambiance was lively and our servers seemed new(?). We loved their pastas and desserts. Our table ordered some wines, and a tasty Italian soda. We then ordered a couple salads to share for the table which were fresh and yummy. For the mains, we got the branzino, the Bolognese pasta and the truffle / mushroom pasta. Everything tasted great and flavourful. But to our surprise, in the last few bites of the truffle / mushroom pasta, we found a dead worm(!) which really dampered our whole experience! We reported it to the server and they took off the mushroom pastas and wines from our bill. We appreciated the gesture. On a day we got caught in a summer storm, we randomly found refuge at Pappardella. They fortunately for us were able to put us in the covered patio. They've been very helpful at the reception as they were full that night. It was perfect as it was warm outside and a great way to enjoy the rain without suffering from it. Great neighborhood gem with solid Italian dishes and a nice selection of wines. The gem Caesar and caprese salads were fresh starters. The pappardelle with mushrooms was superb. Papardella is such a neighborhood gem and a favorite in our family! We mostly order in from here and it never disappoints. The food is delish whether we are there or home. My kids love the rigatoni alla vodka, and the pizza is a huge hit too. Wow, just wow... I absolutely loved EVERYTHING about this place. The ambiance, the service, the food. I loved that it was a smaller restaurant with less than 20 tables. I have celiac disease so when I see a gluten free menu I jump for joy! I had the Ricotta di Bufala, Pollo al Parmigiano, and the Torta di Cioccolato. Every bite of food was flavorful and delicious. My friend and I were excited to try this restaurant and they did not disappoint. My friend has celiac and we were drawn to this restaurant because of their extensive gluten free menu. I'm actually surprised that this restaurant doesn't have more stars. I selected it because I had some guests in town who are gluten free and this restaurant is one of the few gf friendly Italian restaurants. They have an entire menu that's gluten free only. It's very impressive. They even do gluten free garlic bread. It's very extensive. When I came here we were a party of seven on a Saturday evening. We had a reservation. The restaurant is pretty small but it didn't feel too cramped. The hostess came around often to make sure we were taken care of. The food was excellent. While I'm not gluten free myself, those who ate from the gluten free menu said the pasta tasted like the real deal. They couldn't even notice a difference apparently. That's impressive. One person said the eggplant parm was one of the best he's ever had. Overall, I think it's a great neighborhood find, particularly if you're gluten free or dining with someone who is. read more

Within the past several weeks I visited Pappardella twice. The first time I had a nice glass of Chardonnay and lobster ravioli. I loved the ravioli so much that I had to return a couple weeks later and ordered the same plus zaglione with strawberries for desert. My rating is based upon the food because it was dedlicious. This is a medium sized restaurant and, during good weather, has outside tables. The acoustics are not great, and even when not full, can be a bit noisy. The service was good but a bit slow. I think they could use another waiter. Had to wait a long time for the check, but overall it was pretty professional. The restroom situation is not great and, if you are handicapped, forget about it. For the main restroom, you have to go down steep stairs, but the hostess allowed me to walk up 4 steps, go through the kitchen area, and use the restroom in the back. The kitchen area, which I assume was the staging area, was very small with several chefs. I don't know how they work in such a cramped space. I may be wrong, but I am assuming the main kitchen is in the basement. Since the food is so great, I'll definitely return and hope to try other things on the menu. The prices though, unfortunately, are a bit high. read more

This place definitely can be hit or miss. To improve your experience in terms of the pasta, make sure to pick a house pasta instead of other options even if others sound tasty. House pasta has the taste and feel of fresh/homemade pasta while others tend to be not cooked properly or just outright thick/chewy in texture. The appetizers are a bit all over the place. The whipped ricotta and the fried burrata are well done. Salads should be avoided here. The components are fine and the veggies are fresh but definitely not prepared well enough to enjoy. Dessert is also not executed how the menu makes it sound. The wine list is fairly good and a nice variety. Multiple options across the board for by the glass or by the bottle. They do cocktails/beer/soft drinks as well. Service can be hit or miss depending on the night. Some of the staff is very knowledgeable while others seem to struggle throughout. Highly recommend inside seating as opposed to outside/patio seating. Definitely a better vibe that adds to the experience inside than the covered seating by the door or the curbside shed for outdoor dining. Outdoor dining is heated but the noise and how cold/lukewarm your food arrives makes it not as enjoyable. read more

One of the few times I've had both my boys in the city at the same time, we made reservations for 7:00 on a Sunday. When we arrived the table was ready and we were seated immediately. Had a very nice dinner here. Service was excellent. Dining inside is comfortable with a nice ambience. Perfect for a romantic evening or an night with the family. Used to live on the upper West side many moons ago when it was still artsy, up and coming. A friend recommended this little local gem, a medium sized, charming, local Italian restaurant. The service was good, nobody was auditioning instead of serving their customers, fellow native New Yorkers know what I'm talking about. The food was very good, we had the Ricotta di Bufala to start, then followed by a linguine Vongole and Spaghetti Fruti de Mare, which I liked better. The Pinot Grigio and Vermentino wines were above average..
