My grandma used to love this place, especially the moules. Tonight I enjoyed the celery remoulade and the frogs legs. Delicious. The server was polite but forgot my wine order once. A good pre-theater option.

My husband and I had a lovely dating night here. It's a small restaurant with such a charming ambiance. He ordered Duck à l'orange which tasted soooo good. I ordered calf liver which I loved. Too bad that we didn't realize that if we wanted to order soufflé for dessert, we have to order it with the main course. We will come back again for the soufflé.

What a find! If you're looking for an intimate, authentic French escape from the bustle of the city, you should definitely stop by Chez Napoleon! I had a dinner here just before a Broadway show, and despite ordering some of the dishes that required "patience", the food came out fairly quickly and with generous portions! The French onion soup was good (a little on the salty side for my taste, but good nonetheless) and the duck confit was cooked to perfection. We also got the Grand Marnier souffle which was large enough for two people and was the star of the show! The waitress was very sweet and the ambiance really makes you feel like you've been transported to a small French restaurant, so if that's what you're hoping for, it won't disappoint!

Tools for Bouillabaisse shared with my son. My third time and always great.

We love Chez Napoleon. The wait staff is amazing and food is wonderful. Drinks were outstanding and the seafood is out of this world. The madam and her son are wonderful hosts.

I've been going to this family owned, French country resturant for many years. The food is authentic, well priced and a go to place if you want to grab a bite before a show. Elayne Bruno has been with the resturant since 1982 and is a loving steward of this not-to-miss broadway gem. Oh, and make sure to order the vanilla-lemon soufflé!

We ended up at Chez Napoleon by chance the other evening after signing papers on our new abode. Plus it was date night too. The hubby loves coq au vin and fois gras, and we love trying new places, so this definitely fit the bill. First off, it's quaint and charming. Don't let the outside fool you. It doesn't look like much when you get there. But once inside, it's adorable and so welcoming. An absolute gem. We were greeted by the hostess/waitress who clearly has been part of the Chez Napoleon fabric for awhile, as we overheard her reminiscing with one of the other tables about their dinner there a decade and a half ago. I saw one review that referred to the interior as very dated. That's absolutely true. But that is also part of its charm. It's part of what makes this unexpected find a true delight. Everyone there is attentive, with delightful service. We started out with the escargot, the French onion soup and my husband's favorite fois gras. The escargot was delish, and he thorougly enjoyed the fois gras. I wasn't so much a fan of the onion soup, which is usually one of my favorites. It's was more bland than I expected. For dinner Jayson had the Coq au vin, while I had the Steak au Poivre. It was all very good, though, and this is more about me then them, I wasn't crazy about the au poivre. It was very thick and took away a bit from the steak. I'm not a gravy/sauce steak kind of guy. For dessert he had the soufflé. You need to order it at the start as it takes an hour to prepare. Overall it was a nice date night, which originally started out on a sour note due to the first restaurant we went to, then left soon after.

I ordered the Kale Chicken Caesar Salad, which comes with grilled chicken, kale, Caesar dressing, croutons, Parmesan cheese, and a huge piece of buttered bread. I also added grilled steak cooked medium because apparently one protein wasn't enough for me. Both the chicken and steak were flavorful, and the steak was cooked exactly how I wanted it. The salad was filling enough to feel like an actual meal rather than just something light. I also ordered the Strawberry Margarita, which was only $10 thanks to their all day, everyday margarita special. And listen, they are NOT playing with that margarita. It was strong but still tasted really good, which is exactly the balance I want from a cocktail. I ate alone and really liked the seating setup. I had a cute little booth that felt perfect for a solo diner, but it would work just as well for two people. The restaurant also has plenty of seating for larger groups, so it seems like an easy choice whether you're eating alone or coming with friends or family. The servers were attentive to me and assisted me quickly. They also checked in on me multiple times. The interior was another highlight. There's a beautiful wall covered with different pieces of artwork that adds a lot of character to the restaurant and makes the space feel much more visually interesting than your typical diner. Overall, this was a great quick meal while I was out running errands. Good food, a surprisingly strong $10 margarita, and a comfortable atmosphere for dining solo. I'd definitely stop in again when I'm in the area.

We loved seeing the pastries on display in the case while we queued for the table to be ready. I had the avocado salad with chicken, and my mom opted for the salted caramel waffle and hash browns. Everything was delicious and huge portions. Our waitress was very slow and didn't check on us much at all, but the great food made up for it. Make sure to stop by here with a reservation!

Aside from that, we had a fantastic experience here at Friedmans Herald Square near Penn Station. They were playing Hilary Duff music, which was such a fun touch since they often match the vibe of whatever is happening at MSG! They even had special Hilary Duff mocktails. The atmosphere is super sweet and cozy. The restaurant was empty when we first walked in, but the second we sat down, it completely packed up! The waiter was very friendly, and even though they weren't able to split the check at the table, they did provide an itemized receipt to make figuring it out easy. The food was great overall--the Mac & Cheese bites and the corn were especially good! We also tried the cheesecake and molten cake. Plus, the neighbors sitting next to us were so sweet. The food here is expensive and overpriced for diner food, but you're in Times Square and this is a known tourist trap, so if you go in with the right expectations, you'll have a good time. I got the Be Bop a Lula Burger which came with mushrooms, onions, and bacon and it was a solid burger. I also really liked how crunchy the waffle fries were. Fast forward to 2026 (where I'm finally not broke as hell), the day has finally come, and I am ecstatic about stepping foot into this diner that surprisingly is still standing in 2026. The inside certainly feels like a diner, but not quite the old-school dinginess that I'm used to--it's clean. Given that it was Sunday at noon, it was very crowded in there and mainly flooded with tourist groups, but a table opened up for us pretty quickly. For a NYC diner, the menu is certainly small - this is probably done to keep tables moving faster. I got the Pastrami Hash & Eggs and it was just overdone and super oily and dry--almost as if they just refried everything except the sunnyside egg. Not gonna lie, I was very disappointed, given that I had waited for so long to come here, only to get food that was an attempt to give the staleness another chance by refrying and reheating. I actually beat myself up a little the rest of the day for finishing the whole thing, knowing that the oversaltiness was flirting with opening up some high blood pressure. It was also not moderately priced by any means (was close to $30), but I know I'm helping pay for that Midtown and proximity to Central Park pricing. Not sure if I'll return, which saddens me, but also knowing that they're part of a conglomerate at Fireman Group (and still run independently in a sense) makes total sense
