Can't believe I haven't written this review until now! The Collins Small Batch Kitchen is a GEM! This place is sexy and romantic, with actually delicious and tasty food. We have had the steak, which is always cooked to perfection! And don't forget to try their Tres Leche dessert! It is BETTER than the Mastro's butter cake (TRUST ME), it's a must order! Apologies for the picture that was taken halfway through the meal... I was HANGRY. Ordered the chicken and Brie sandwich and it was delightful. Fresh & all ingredients were well balanced. Pop of sweetness was awesome. The fries and truffle sauce needs to have a warning on it before you order because it had NO BUSINESS being that good. I made a reservation for 2, we were sat at a tiny table, by the window, which wasn't awful until a large group of Barbie goers were sat right next to us, the table was so close, we felt like we were eating with them, not ideal. Our server was great, and the restaurant was really cool, we enjoyed our cocktails and appetizers! I ordered a burger on a gluten free bun, it looked way too good to be true, I was just about to double check the bun was GF when our server approached and took my plate, it was not a GF bun. They made me a delicious salad while it was remade, which I appreciated! And my remade burger was delicious! First time here and incredibly disappointed in the experience we had last night. Came in with a reservation at 8 for my brother's birthday. We started off on what seemed to be a good foot with our server, they acknowledged his birthday with promises for a dessert after and all seemed well. Entrees came, food was wonderful. We finish up at about 9 which I understand is when they close. Without asking for dessert or anything else they quickly ask how we're taking care of the check, to which my brother asks about aforementioned birthday dessert and they say they will check with the kitchen. At this point the ENTIRE interaction changed and our server became incredibly dismissive, visibly annoyed and barely made eye contact when then dropping off the dessert with a very half assed Happy Birthday. Never said another word to us or asked how it was. As someone who works in the service industry, I understand that a few minutes after close may be annoying but I feel it's pretty standard practice to check with your tables when your kitchen is closing, especially a special occasion. All employees including our server watched us walk out when we were done without saying a word. I think staying 15 minutes past close while finishing up a dinner, a special occasion no less, is fairly reasonable. What should've been a fun night for a birthday ended with us feeling like we were an absolute nuisance and annoyance, completely unwelcome. At an establishment we had just spent a fair amount of money at and tipped accordingly. This is definitely a first for me dining out, I don't even write Yelp reviews but this was a huge bummer. Collin's chefs are pretty talented! My ahi tuna poke dish was simple, but delish! The tuna was exceptionally fresh! I had a bite of my hub's braised short rib & my oh my!!! Tingles & jingles all up on my tongue, spine, and every other sensational areas u can think of! U can't beat the location of this place! Super central and close to Biltmore! U can't miss it! Right on the corner of 32nd St and camelback. They have a quaint, comfortable, and just an all around cool vibe patio that makes u feel like Collins is where u belong! You will be provided romantic date experience here. Service and presentation is excellent. The food however could see some improvement. The French Onion Soup was tasty but a bit unbalanced with the amount of cheese (trust me I love cheese but there comes a point). The Crispy Fish Sandwich and Bistro Burger are standard and do not particularly wow. Out last order was the Sausage & Mushroom Pizza which was delicious although greasy. Wowza!! This place is awesome! I loved the restaurant week tasting menu, particularly the shrimp cocktail, short ribs and coconut pie! So, I did order the fried pork chop (which was not to my liking), but hubby ordered the steak which they didn't have, hence the ribs)-- (I'm so glad because the rib dish was absolutely fabulous) and the hubby liked my pork chop so we did musical plates. The ambiance from the outside looked intriguing and once we were inside it did not disappoint. It was lively and full of energy. The food did not disappoint as well. The dishes that my party had, were all very good and flavorful. The recommendations that our server made were spot on. The service was the down fall. He just had to many tables and while very professional he was spread to thin to give great service. I was disappointed because he and the restaurant were close to giving us a fantastic experience. This was a fantastic place!!! So glad we decided to try The Collins. Our server David, was freaking amazing and so was the entire staff. I also met another server named Samantha. Had a fun great conversation with her. Not only our server but others as well was very observant and asking if we needed anything such as another drink, refills, boxes, etc. I honestly was shocked on how great the service was. We started out with the bread, Brussels Sprouts and the Artichokes. No complaints on anything. They we're all so delicious and bursting flavors. Loved how the fresh bread was salty and warm. For our main entree we had the prime rib which was cooked to perfection. Also had the Biltmore chicken platter. I love me some fried chicken and it's very difficult to find places that make good seasoned fried chicken and this place nailed it. It came with shoestring fries which were crispy and yummy and coleslaw ( my other fav side) it was good and crunchy. Only complaint I had about this is that they could be less stingy with the portion of coleslaw. For dessert...HOLYSMOKES!!! Their Coconut Cream Pie is heaven. And for all you chocolate lovers... you will love love their Chocolate Mousse. Very smooth and decadent. Please make an effort to visit and experience an amazing evening here at The Collins. I have dined in Collins before & I have written quite a few good reviews. But this time it is a very disappointing experience. We are at the restaurant at 4pm; there are only a handful of customers. So we are taken to the table right away & we go ahead & order food. About the food, my companion has the BBQ ribs & me the prime rib. The BBQ ribs are great, tasty & tender. My prime rib is not as great. It has a lot of fat (as shown on the left side of the picture), & the meat is bland & almost tasteless. It doesn't even come with any side dishes. The server J suggests a baked potato without telling me it costs $8 extra. As for the service , it really needs a lot of improvement or requires further training on the wait staff. Server J appears to be very busy although there are few customers at 4pm at the restaurant. We order the onion dip as our appetizer. As we are finishing the dip, a fly lands in the dip & gets buried & dies. I have never seen a fly in a decent restaurant like Collins (not even at McDonald's) . As I point out to Server J , he says people bring in flies with them. Is he suggesting we bring in the flies ? In any case it's very disrespectful. I am still in shock that a server will give such an inappropriate remark. Before we pay our bill. I speak to the manager & she's understanding & gracious to deduct the charge on the onion dip. I should have taken a picture & send it the Health Department so would- be customers will be fore-warned. 1 star goes to the BBQ rib & 1 star goes to the manager. read more

We decided to check out the Collins before heading to the John Legend concert. I made reservations easily on their website and we were seated immediately. Our party of 4 ordered drinks and they arrived quickly! The spicy tequila drink was amazing! I ordered two! But the true star of the show was our server Ian. Ian had just the best personality! He was so kind, attentive and in general a delight. The food was wonderful! I did the restaurant week menu and everything was amazing. The oysters were fresh, the crab cake was full of crab! Not a bunch of filler and the chocolate mousse cake was so good! My partner got the veggie burger and she said it was delicious, you can tell it's freshly made and not just a frozen patty. ZERO idea what people are talking about with these 5 star reviews. I've also gathered since moving to Phoenix that people are much more generous with their ratings but I have given this spot TWO separate tries and am miffed at how well regarded this place seems to be. Last night, we went to dinner and were greeted very nicely as they even made accommodations to sit at a quieter table by the bar. Now, you might think quiet by the bar but this place is pretty noisy and even more so for any elderly people who can't use their voice as much. Which was the situation we were in. We told the waitress NO CHEESE on anything, though we do eat mozzarella cheese so we ordered a pizza without the other cheese that was notated. I do understand most the population eats cheese and doesn't care about the fat or what type of cheese it is so this qualm would otherwise not be pertinent to most. BUT, the server came over and told us that the pizza cheese is a blend (only reason I would suspect restaurants have moved to this model is to cut on costs and add lesser cheeses to offset otherwise higher expenditures) and so as miffed as we were we kindly just changed our order. She suggested side items like broccolini which we eventually settled on but they strangely brought that in the place of the pizza, not with the entire meal. Huh? Broccoli as an appetizer. But ok. Then the real gaffe happened and I cannot blame the server as we were VERY intentional and clear about no cheese. My partner ordered the spaghetti squash as a SIDE ITEM for her rotisserie chicken (which was really good by the way) and it strangely was also "garnished with parmesan", which we asked to not have. She said of course that should be no issue. When the plate arrived, yep, you guessed it, parmesan was all over the squash and, unknowingly, I tasted it and have not gagged more, almost vomiting on the floor of the restaurant (NOT an exaggeration, it was VILE). When people cannot eat something, it's not the CHOICE of the restaurant whether or not to include it, it's the RESPONSIBILITY to respect this. A completely forgettable taste and experience is now unforgettable to me and has me upset enough still to draft this review. Even more comical, when they asked if they could replace it with something, and she mentioned Brussels sprouts (we already had the broccolini for an appetizer lol), they brought it over stating "the server took care of this for you". Ummmmm, ok, you screwed up the spaghetti squash so how is she taking care of this for us. Again, no harm no foul, let's just move past it. But when she brought the check, she said she "took off the Brussel sprouts from the check", again leaving us extremely puzzled as to whether or not we are even being heard. The worst thing about this is the reason they don't have one star from me and got two, is because my burger and fries were actually pretty good. But I don't imagine the restaurant will even read this or care about the review as they didn't seem to care last night. We were also assessing the space to rent out for our shareholders meeting but I dont' think that will happen. Please try and respect peoples dietary restrictions and concerns, no matter how different they might be to most peoples. It's just really frustrating to alienate people who wanted to like and patronize this spot. Very disappointing. read more

First off, highly recommend getting reservations and requesting a table outside because their patio is really nice. For drinks, I got the Rye & Absinthe. It's so rare to see absinthe on a cocktail menu so I had to order it. It tasted like an absinthe old fashioned, which I love. Afterwards, we got a bottle of red. For appetizer, we each got the raw oysters, which were fresh and tasted of the sea. Ariel is screaming in horror as I slurped up her delicious friends. For my main, I got their prime rib which was cooked to perfection. I love a nice piece of meat that will make Fred Flinstone drool. (What is it with me and 90's cartoon references today?!) Dessert, I got the (award-winning) coconut cream pie, which was light and great for a warm day. The boyfriend got the chocolate mousse pie, which he loved. So definitely remember to save room for dessert because Cookie Monster would even abandon cookies for their pie goodness here. (Just go with it?!) Great, friendly service. One of my fav spots in the Biltmore area of Phoenix. My mom and I frequent this spot and we always have a good time and enjoy our fav eats and drinks here. The happy hour is a short list of eats at good prices. Two of our favs are the oysters and shrimp selections. The pizzas are good, I especially like the sausage pizza. Wood oven made, nice crisp on the crust with popping flavors. The service at the bar is without issues and conversations at times with staff can be entertaining. They do remember return guests, which always makes it special. My friends and I did restaurant week here. I mostly made the decision based on the fact they had seafood options. I went with 2 friends so we ordered all 3 appetizers and sampled from each of them. I got the bacon steak, which was delicious but super fatty (my friends didn't care about that at all and ended up devouring it when I was done). It came with an egg cut in half under a little pile of lettuce. The egg was kinda sweet, which was delightful, and the lettuce must have had the right amount of dressing because my friends took that as well! This was my first oyster experience and it went great, the little spot of Sriracha hit the spot just right. The shrimp cocktail was good too, I really liked the sauces. I had the crab cakes for the entree and let me tell you they were DIVINE. Super meaty, perfectly crispy and the roumelade sauce just added to it. It came with shoestring fries and garlic aioli that I scarfed down. I tried my friend's prime rib and it just melted in your mouth. It was the perfect texture and temperature. Last but definitely not least was the coconut cream pie that all 3 of us ordered. It was so crumbly, so creamy, so coconuty - I'm not sure how they got it so thick but it was probably the best coconut cream pie I've ever had. We honestly had a great time and were enjoying our dinner until one of the staff members came over stating we needed to tone it down because of several complaints. While we completely understand if we were being too loud, from us laughing and enjoying our time, it was the way she went about it that rubbed us the wrong way. We ended up wanting to bring it up to the manager about our experience and how JP was great the entire time. The manager then made a comment such as "oh, he was great for once". We did not appreciate a manager speaking about her employee like that at all. Wow, this was an incredible meal! Our server Adam was spot on with our service. We shared 4 different appetizers, our favorite was the onion dip and the pimento cheese and guacamole duo! We've recently been frequenting The Collins. It's quickly becoming a go to option. Among my favorites are their crispy fish sandwich with a Caesar salad instead of their fries, and their baby back ribs which were fall off the bone delicious! In fact, I'm considering going there for a late lunch/early dinner. Another favorite is their roasted cauliflower with a tahini dipping sauce!!! YUMM!!! Whether you're seated at the bar or in that part of the restaurant or in the main dining room, the ambiance is outstanding, although the bar area can get noisy.
