All around, a solid experience. From the quick greeting and seating to the bread and blackened redfish special that I ordered, my experience was great. I love it when the ingredients are fresh and the meal is simple. The quality really comes through when there is not a laundry list of ingredients to hide any faults. Here, my fish was cooked simply with a bit of sauce (it was not drowning in sauce) and plated with wilted greens that had a little added (cabbage?) to give them a bit of texture. Our server was attentive, but not TOO attentive and we appreciated that. I highly recommend this place and suggest making a reservation since it seemed pretty popular. read more

The family brought me here for Mother's Day - a very good choice. We started with the Noble Bread Service: piping hot bread with whipped butter. Would it be nice to get complimentary bread? Absolutely. But this appetizer was really tantalizing if you like hot, buttered bread like my family does. My son and I split the French Dip sandwich with shoestring fries. The meat was tender and perfect, as were the fries. I wouldn't have chosen a seeded bun but if you like that kind of thing it's fine. Being that it was a holiday, we just had to bring some pie home of course. I would say that the coconut cream and chocolate mousse were equally good in their different ways. Horrible service. Came here for dinner and they told us 1 hr and 20 min wait when there was over 7 open tables inside and outside they said all the tables were reserved. We went to the bar and got a drink- drinks were overpriced and not good and bartender was rude. We were there for 45 min drinking and not one of the empty tables was filled. $75 for 3 drinks - 2 rounds and none of the drinks were impressive. Shrimp Cocktail (5/5): a little pricey at $3 per shrimp but they were so good! Prime Rib (5/5): prime rib for under $40 is a steal and it was delicious. Noticed they don't serve it with mashed potatoes anymore though. Added a small Caesar salad on the side which was good as well. Meat Lovers Pizza (3.5/5): forgot the exact name but it's the last pizza on the list, good but a little salty. Overall it's one of my favorite spots to visit when in Phoenix. Happy hour is from 3-6PM. Customer service was friendly but a little slow. The Collins has been a favorite spot of mine for years now, and every time I bring somebody new, they too enjoy the food and service. The restaurant has a polished yet relaxed vibe in the Biltmore Neighborhood. For my latest visit, Holly, the bartender, was our server and provided an excellent experience. It also happens to be AZ restaurant week, so we decided to go for the three-course option they had available. It was a belated Mother's Day lunch, so my Mom had the dip duo of guac and pimento cheese with tortilla chips, and the shrimp risotto; I had the same, but for my starter, I had the Old Bay seasoned Shrimp Cocktail. Both of our meals from beginning to end were fantastic and ended with a sweet touch delivered via what seemed to be locally sourced chocolate truffles. Came here for lunch during restaurant week and absolutely loved it! The vibe of the place is very cute for a nice family dinner or date night. I got a cocktail included with my 3-course meal and it was just the right amount of sweet and great to sip on throughout my meal. The grilled artichoke had really good flavor but not too much meat. No complaints considering I was getting all of this for $33, but not sure I'd order it off the regular menu. The shrimp risotto was fantastic, and I scrapped my plate clean. The truffles to take home were a nice touch and tasty, however I would've preferred to try one of their actual desserts. But again, for the price, I can't complain. I'll definitely be back to try out more of their menu options. The service was also very nice! It was one of the rainiest days when I went, and my waitress was so nice letting me sit and drink some coffee while I read my book and waited for the storm to pass. Ambiance is somewhat trendy and modern, nice bar area but also a comfortable dining room and two patios. Loved the Brussels sprouts, and the Noble Bread was amazing. The salmon was really good too. Despite being extremely busy with every table full, the food still came out in a timely manner. On the final day of restaurant week, we decided to try a new restaurant with our friends for dinner, ultimately selecting The Collins Small Batch Kitchen located on 32nd Street and Camelback. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately, as we had made a reservation. The modern upscale decor created a relaxing ambiance, perfect for a nice dinner. Before ordering, we discovered their daily happy hour, from 3-6 pm, and decided to enjoy drinks and onion dip. The dip was delicious and creamy, so we ordered another round after our friends arrived. Julia, our server, introduced herself and took us on a culinary journey through the menu. We all initially planned to order from the restaurant week options, but after Julia thoroughly explained the menu and specials, we were undecided. She listened attentively to our preferences and offered excellent suggestions. Eventually, my husband chose the Braised beef short ribs off the regular menu. They were so tender and delicious! They were served with parmesan-chive risotto and roasted Brussels leaves. Our friends opted for the Ribeye off the regular menu and the Prime Rib from the restaurant week menu. We also tried the golden beets, loaded baked potato, and crab and corn chowder soup. Once it was dessert time we couldn't decide on which dessert, so we got three: Sticky Toffee Pudding, Coconut Cream Pie, and Chocolate Mousse Pie. The Coconut Cream Pie was our favorite, but all three were delicious! As our dinner came to a close, we requested the presence of the manager, Catherine, to express our delight with the service. As a gesture of kindness, she gave us a parting gift including seasoning, sauce, and coupons. We had such a great experience we were there three hours! This was our first time having dinner at this restaurant. The first problem is that the bartenders have no connection or warmth with the clientele. It is obvious the customers are an inconvenience. We had to ask the bartender to wipe down the bar because when we sat down, there were still dirty dishes there from the party before. Zero sense of urgency. We ordered the shrimp cocktail. It took 45 minutes and nobody provided an explanation as to why it was so late. It was delicious but the service ruined it. We ordered the chicken platter and prime rib. Both were outstanding but the service just ruined the whole experience. We felt hated or disliked at best by the bartenders. They need to send them to Houston's school of bartender training. God forbid you need extra butter or another drink. They almost throw it at you as they walk by. No eye contact and no warmth or friendliness. It's sad. They were unprofessional and whomever hired them and thinks they are doing a great job needs to get their head checked. You are losing customers because of your staff! Stop it because the food is great. Moodiness is no excuse. Not sure we will be back. Act like you care just a little. So disappointed. read more

As a fan of the Collins it pains me to leave a bad review. Tried the Brunch for the first time. I will start with the good. The coffee is amazing. Along with the avocado toast. Unfortunately, that is where the good ends. Despite my sitting at the bar. ( highest visibility seating) and single cup of coffee was all I was afforded. Even with edging the empty cup and saucer forward. My entire stay was just at an hour. No attempt whatsoever at offering me a refill. As delicious as the Avacado toast was. It was served on a thin flat cutting board. As careful as I was. Once the yolk of the undercooked egg was pierced. It immdiately ran off the cutting board (about 6 inches wide) onto the place matt. Awkward and a complete waste of the best part of the egg. The Grilled Artichoke was beyond dissapointing. Charred beyond belief. Dried out. I have had it before and it was amazing. Today it was a chore, and barely edible. It had been so over cooked. Burnt. The evidence of black burnt artichoke was all over the napkin. My napkin when I was done , looked like a mechanics rag. Even the heart was completely dried out and fibrous. I do understand that is was a busy Easter Brunch. That being said, still not an excuse for crap service, and the cook staff letting such an obvious mistake of a menu item be plated. Visual appearance alone showed that the artichoke was extremely over grilled and ruined. Yet it cleared the kitchen. This alone shows lack of pride in the kitchen staff. Along with lack of involvement of management. Could not be more dissapointed. I would be very hard pressed to return to the Collins. read more

Finally made it to The Collins Small Batch Kitchen last week for a Valentine's double date, and let me just say--zero complaints! This place is a hidden gem in the Biltmore area (Safeway shopping center), and I'm honestly not sure how it took me this long to try it out. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, inviting, and perfect for any occasion--whether it's date night, a celebration, or just a casual dinner with friends. The service was top-notch, attentive without being overbearing, and the food? Absolutely delicious. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with quality ingredients. I absolutely loved this restaurant! I loved the people that worked here, they were so personable and friendly, I felt instantly welcomed! The food was incredible! Everything we had was super! I especially liked the dip duo, it reminded me of an appetizer my mom would serve in the 70's when she was hosting a get together when I was a kid. My friend and I spent a long time eating dinner and chatting and at no time at all did we feel rushed by the staff (we did make sure that no one was waiting for a table during our visit). The ambiance was nice and I noticed that the restaurant attracted all kinds of patrons, families, groups in their 20s, middle aged to older adults. It seems to have universal appeal. The shrimp was grilled and seasoned beautifully, the Noble croutons were large but soft and delicate, and I loved how the lettuce was chopped up small. However over $30 for a lunch salad is just not realistic to do regularly. Table shared the Noble bread which had a plentiful heap of delicious whipped butter, and the dip duo - both dips were tasty and so were the chips. I thought the service was good, some in our large party thought it was a little slow. The interior of the restaurant was chic and comfortable. Yikes! We are fans of all the Collin's places and we've been here several times but go to scottsdale more frequently. My husband ordered the crab cakes which were well done and dried out. I had the rotisserie chicken with the shredded squash that was tasteless. The mustard sauce, too was void of almost any flavor. I'm actually still a bit nauseous since dinner. Very disappointed. I'll take an enzyme to see if it settles my stomach. Not typical of this location and they weren't busy so I see no excuse. By the way the fries were spot on!!!! I'm not usually a fan of mac and cheese but after reading reviews here I decided to try the short ribs mac 'n cheese and it was great. The beef was incredibly tender and the macaroni came bathed in a delicious velvety cheese sauce. I had the baby back ribs and my friend had the prime rib. We were impressed, it was all so good. The highlight was the coconut cream pie slathered in whipped cream. Sensational. Also outstanding was the service. Our waitress was so attentive without being intrusive. An October happy hour date with a girlfriend, we chose The Collins because I had a free appetizer card from a sister restaurant. Against my better judgement, we didn't sit at the bar like we would usually. We let the hostess seat us at a tiny two top table. Someone came for drink orders and we asked a menu question which she couldn't answer. Our server had to ask our drink orders again, so not sure who the first gal was except a busser. Happy hour menu is limited but we chose some items from the regular menu as well. Cocktails are $12. Companion started with the Gin and Cucumber cocktail, which she disliked so later switched to just a Gin and Tonic with Bombay Sapphire which was $7. I really enjoyed the Tequila and Grapefruit but this is really more of an after dinner sipper like an Old Fashioned, rather than a Paloma. With a huge ice cube chilling some tequila and grapefruit liquor with a fancy swipe of salt on the side of the glass, it was pretty. Again, $12 but unique and tasty. For appetizers we ordered the caramelized onion dip, grilled artichoke, kung fu ceviche, crab and greens and shrimp risotto. Starting with the caramelized onion dip, it was a huge portion of very creamy dip with tortilla chips. We had asked if the tortillas were all corn, or a wheat/corn blend because some places do that. Corn chips, but busser came back saying they had wheat (not as an ingredient but from cross contamination by fryer). We could not consume all the dip, even though the onion flavor was fantastic, it was just too rich . The artichokes were three small halves, grilled with crispy edges to the point of stringiness. But no tender centers at all in our three, these chokes were so skinny there was literally no heart. So much for the complimentary app. Although I was most excited about the shrimp three nice plump grilled shrimps hid under a huge pile of arugula, there was barely a tablespoon of risotto. Isn't rice inexpensive? Why would we skimp or this ingredient for the sake of happy hour micro portions? Anyway, tasty but not enough. Companion raved about the ceviche, a great combination of flavors and textures, with more tortilla chips. I also really enjoyed the single crab cake with greens, you guessed it, a big pile of .... more arugula! My mistake, I should have splurged on a different combo. There was very little panko in the crab cake and it was every bit as good as those I have eaten in New England! At some point late in our meal, we were ready to summon the check. Our server was nowhere to be found. For about twenty minutes. This is why I prefer to sit at the bar. We finally flagged down another server to request the check. Although server removed the charge for the complimentary app, it doesn't reflect anywhere on the bill (so we could tip properly), which we had to ask about. $105 before tax, this was a pricey meal that left us pretty hungry. The quality is not consistent given the price point. Next time, we order only well drinks on happy hour and sit at the bar! read more

Had the great pleasure of dining at Collins today. It was a first. We were in the area for an event and in need of a special yummy meal. The food was fantastic. I ordered us the onion dip and myself the market salad. My son ordered the filet kids meal. The kids meal stole the show for sure. He wouldn't even share his steak and requested to come back every day. can't beat that for $10! Ambiance was nice. Restaurant is well decorated. Bathroom clean. Staff dressed nicely. The service was subpar, which is my reason for 4 stars. We waited quite a while to get our check. I couldn't even see our waiter for 10+minutes. I nearly estimated the tab and left cash. But I wanted something packed to go. Despite the struggle with service, I most definitely will return and delight in the viewing of my children protein loading! But today when I went to pay my bill it was like 110 bucks I pulled out some cash and I was told my money doesn't spend. I've had The Collins on my list of restaurants to try for months and my siblings' birthday was the night we decided to give it a go! There were 8 of us and we all tried SO many different items off the menu, from cocktails and beer, to multiple appetizers, sandwiches, GF and regular pizzas, and entrees. Because it we were celebrating two birthdays, the waitress also brought two desserts with candles for us to sing happy birthday - the dessert was amazing too. The atmosphere was warm and so pleasant - we commented multiple times how it's rare to have that many people at one table and we can actually hear one another. The music level and booth-seating was just perfect. Also, big shout-out to our waitress Nevaeh! She was AMAZING - so attentive, had a great memory (who was GF from our group, two of which had birthdays, etc) and was overall one of the nicest waiters we've had in a LONG time. We will definitely be back and we also want to try out the other restaurants by the Arcadia Catering Co. Highly highly recommend!! read more
