Steak and scallops entree with pasta side
    Hanna W.

Perfect dinner at the steakhouse! The atmosphere is like an old school jazz club without the need for dressing up. Our waitress was knowledgeable and timely - couldn't ask for anything more. My friend and I opted out of appetizers because the entrees already come with soup, salad, bread, AND an additional side. My entree of the steak and scallops came with the spinach, which was delicious. Steak was cooked perfectly as I requested. Lastly, I got the sense that food was made with care here. The ranch for the salad is homemade, and the pasta sauce tasted homemade as well (meaning incredible!!). Also live music on a Wednesday was a nice surprise!

Chicken and rice soup comes with every meal steak...or upgrade to French Onion.

TL; DR: Awesome and affordable food served to you with "casual elegance," in a classic venue. ALSO, credit where credit is due. Props to Jim I (AKA Yukon Jim) for turning me on to this place! For less than 50 bucks, I got an 8 oz filet, unlimited dinner rolls, a baked potato, a cup of chicken rice soup, and a house salad. And for about the same price, my boy got a 16 oz New York Strip, and all the same accompaniments. FOOD: The first thing into our mouths were externally crispy yet internally soft and dense dinner rolls, with butter. These were delicious, much better than most "pre-meal" bread. Our cups of chicken and rice soup followed and were creamy and satisfying. Next time, I might upgrade to French onion, but the chicken and rice was really good. The (good sized) dinner salads were next. Fresh lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers, with homemade bleu cheese (or Greek, or vinaigrette, etc)? Hell yeah. So far, this was a pretty good warm up to the main event... Then, THEN, the BEEF WAS SERVED...My son's New Yorker, was perfectly cooked to medium well, and marbled to just the right degree (minimal fat, but enough for flavor). Delicious, he said. Half of it was gone before I could get a pic. My filet? As anticipated, it was beyond perfect. Perfectly cooked to medium. Perfectly seasoned. Perfectly cut. I requested that they hold the mushrooms/sauce and substitute the (house specialty) "Zip sauce." No problem. OK, I SHIT YOU NOT, each bite "literally" dissolved into pure outstanding steak flavor in my mouth. Friggin' outstanding. Also with the steaks, came the baked potatos, medium sized, with butter and/or sour cream. Once again, perfect. Somehow, we managed to have the discipline to skip dessert, And although I was tempted to imbibe, I skipped the adult beverages. But as you would expect, the drink list was full of classic cocktails. Wine and spirits? Those too. ATMOSPHERE: Here we go baby...I'm old Skool. I like retro. We rolled up to TCSH and immediately, I fell for the Mid Century Modern building. That set the tone before we even walked in...Time Tunnel to a bygone era. TCSH has been here since 1958. The inside has been updated, but not so much, I'd imagine, that the original vibe has been lost. Inside, the lighting is dim, but it's not too dark. The noise level is medium, it's warm, and it smells fantastic. "Casual elegance" describes the mood and atmosphere. Is this place a throwback? Is it classic? Is it retro? Oh yes...I wouldn't be surprised if the ghosts of Sinatra and Martin were lounging in a quiet corner booth. ATMOSPHERE/SERVICE: We walked in and immediately I felt underdressed. HOWEVER, the hostess was super cool and reassured us that we both looked fine. We were promptly seated, in the last open booth, in the bar area. I was relieved to see that I wasn't the only guy wearing a Rogue hoodie and a ballcap. Next time I come here, though, I'm definitely going to dress up a bit more. Our server was Tracy. Excellent and professional waitress. She joked around a little, made suggestions, explained the menu items, took our orders, checked on us frequently, and kept our drinks topped off. She was FFA (fast, friendly, accurate). PRICES: All things considered, the prices were not bad. In fact, given all that was included with the meal, I'd say the prices was quite reasonable, especially for 2025. Ultimately, it was an excellent (low key) boys night out. My son wanted "meat, with extra meat," and I wanted a cool AF dining experience with great food. We both got what we wanted. Bottom line? TCSH is an awesome, classic, retro establishment with awesome food. I must say that ever since dining here, I can't stop thinking about when we'll come back. 5 stars for The Clawson Steak House.

    Hot Carmel Brownie

Loved the ambience! The music was really great to listen to while enjoying our dinner (side note: they charge extra for alcoholic drinks when music is playing) The New Yorker 10/10. Chopped sirloin 8/10, a bit too salty for my taste. It did take a while to get the entrees out was there for about 2 hrs. Our waiter checked on us at appropriate times There's definitely a lot of food involved if you get the entree only, it comes with two choices of sides. The hot caramel brownie was the best way to finish our dinner. One would definitely feed 2 ppl.

Warm brownie with ice cream. So good.

Another great dinner at Clawson Steak House. I had the salmon which was very good. They accommodate large parties easily. I like the atmosphere, even though the tables are full, you can still hear each other talk.

It is a nice place but very loud. It is expensive with a hamburger at almost $21.00. We knew it was a pricey place with dancing and a band. The service was good but we had to ask for our check at the end after waiting a bit. Overall service is good. The menu said we had to order 2 drinks during entertainment which we did. Almost $8 for a bottle of beer. I had the perch which was okay. I have had better. I did see in the kitchen briefly because the door was open and I saw a waitress with bare hands putting lettuce on a plate. Overall, 3 stars.

Me and the guitars of Bb King, EVH, the Romantics, James Hetfield and SRV.

What a great place to spend the night with family, friends or acquaintances. Awesome live band that will send you back to the 60's. Is also mix with some ballroom dancing. The service was top notch. Definitely one of a place for a date night. The foods are fantastic. The waiters are fabulous, most st especially the young Guatemalan gentleman. Highly recommended.

Old school steakhouse vibes. Split the prime rib extra cut with my husband for our anniversary and had lots of leftovers! Loved the house made blue cheese dressing on our salads too!

Can I wear golf short to this restaurant?

You probably could but I wouldn't. At least jeans or slacks at a minimum. Shirt with a collar.

Can I meet adult females there?

Possibly, I've seen single woman and men hanging out at the bar.

Anyone ever take kids here? Our 2 year old would be eating with us, but we plan to go early.

Didn't see any kids at 7:30p on a Saturday night but who cares! Not for others to dictate. Remember...people are entitled to a kid free life and not a kid free world. My only comment is that it is VERY LOUD in this restaurant the entire time and can… Read more

What we didn't expect was to be completely blown away. From the second we walked in, the bartender greeted us like we were regulars, and that alone sold us on sitting at the bar. Best decision. We're bar sitters through and through, and between the bartender, a friendly regular who scooted over for us, and literally every person we interacted with, the vibe was unmatched. I worked in the service industry in a former life, so I know how rare it is to find a place where everyone is friendly. There's usually at least one Debbie Downer. Not here. No rushing, great recommendations, and zero feeling like you're "that couple" taking up bar space. Drinks and beer selection were solid, but let's talk food because ambiance and service are only half the equation. We started with the coney dog egg rolls and... wow. Epic. Unique. Immediately set the bar high. Then we ordered the fish and chips and the short rib sandwich. The fish was perfectly breaded, the remoulade was on point, and those skinny fries were dangerous. But the star of the show? The short rib sandwich. Holy shit. I don't normally eat onions or horseradish, but somehow this sandwich converted me. The caramelized onions weren't overpowering, the sauce wasn't spicy, and everything just worked. We literally woke up the next morning talking about how we need it again. The bartender filled us in on happy hour and all the food options, and we're already planning our return. Total hidden gem on Woodward. Highly recommend. Thanks for a great Saturday night!

It was a lovely experience and the food was for the most part very delicious. Service was friendly and good but a tad on the slow side (not our server's fault, they seemed pretty busy and I think she may have been the only waitress working, so she was absolutely juggling a ton). They were out of the "pretty potatoes" which was disappointing because they sounded super delicious. The restaurant is a little dark and when very busy can get a little loud. The three women at the table next to us were having a very loud conversation (of which I picked up every word) and I could barely hear my fiancé, which I didn't love, so the acoustics are a bit odd. That being said, the decor and vibe is very home-y and everyone that works there was very pleasant and lovely, from the hostess to the man that refilled our waters. We got the charcuterie plate (selected two cheeses and two meats; comes accompanied by fig jam, mustard, sardinian crackers, and cornichons), the caesar salad, the short rib, the arctic char, and the olive oil cake for dessert. All of the food was really exceptional and delicious except I found the short rib to be a tad dry. We each ordered a cocktail, I got a spritzer and my fiancé got a seasonal Pimm's cup-type cocktail that used house-made cranberry syrup. They can accommodate gluten free diets easily which is also a plus. Overall, we will absolutely be coming back!I want to try that Wagyu Pastrami Reuben!

It's great for a casual date or a nice meal with friends. We started with the bread board which was alright. I think they described the bread as focaccia, so I was expecting a bread with more of a crunchy crust and the classic dimples on top. However, this bread was fluffy and soft, but it was still very good. I'm not sure if I would get it again since it felt like a bread board I could put together at home. I preferred the bruschetta we got last time. For my entree, I went with the chicken parm which was very good. The chicken was coated well and the sauce was delicious. She was kind, attentive, and professional throughout the meal. Sadly, her service was the only truly positive part of our visit. For my entrée, I ordered the gnocchi with Palameno sauce. The gnocchi itself tasted fresh and was well made; however, the sauce was overwhelmingly garlicky--so much so that it nearly made my eyes water. There was no real depth of flavor beyond the garlic, which made the dish unbalanced and unpleasant. My husband ordered the homemade ravioli stuffed with portobello mushrooms, which was genuinely good and the best dish we had that night. That said, both entrées arrived completely on their own--no sides, no garnish, and not even freshly shaved or grated parmesan offered at the table. We were surprised to learn that everything was à la carte, yet this was not clearly outlined anywhere. Even basic side salads cost $6 for very small portions, and the entrée portions themselves were quite small for the price. We also ordered the $8 bread board, which was honestly baffling. The bread was cold instead of warm and served with low-quality oil, vinegar, and very subpar parmesan (comparable to grocery-store brand), all placed in tiny separate cups with no herbs, seasoning, or explanation. It wasn't mixed or presented in a way that made sense--frankly, we weren't sure what we were supposed to do with it. The calamari appetizer tasted good, but the portion was so small it wasn't shareable, which defeats the purpose of an appetizer. The drinks were awful. My husband's soda tasted flat, and we wondered if the soda gun was dirty. There was virtually no liquor in either cocktail--mine tasted watered down and unpleasant, almost like river water. To make matters worse, the limes were dry and visibly brown. Overall, the entire experience was a 3 out of 10, and that rating is solely due to the excellent service provided by our waitress, Yvette. Unfortunately, between the underwhelming food, confusing and poorly communicated à la carte pricing, very small portions, subpar drinks, and lack of value for the cost, this restaurant did not meet even basic expectations. We will not be returning and cannot recommend D'Amato's to others s this restaurant's food was NOT elevated. For the prices charged, fine-dining restaurants should expect far better quality, execution, and overall dining experience. I have no idea how they stayed in business for over 28 years.

I was at the bar last night and paid for two drinks from the bartender who was a decent guy for the most part. He had topped off the beer glasses all the way which made them hard to walk back to my table with. The surface tension was unbearable but I did my best. Anyways, the one beers had a few drops fall from it and land on a lady's jeans who was sitting at the table. I'm not kidding you... a few drops. About the size of a quarter in total wet surface area. I apologized to her as obviously I didn't mean for that to happen. She then took my drinks from my table and claimed they were hers now. Already, a very wild behavior. I walked over, and apologized once more and reached for my beers that she now stole from me. Upon grabbing said beers. She ripped one from my hand, poured it on my head, and punched me in the face. I wish I could make this up. After that, the bar staff approached me and asked me to leave. So I not only gave them my money, but I was robbed and assaulted by someone and they were okay with it. Previously, I always had a very high opinion of this bar. Loved every evening I went there. I always sought out opportunities to enjoy evenings there with my friends. All this being said, I will never go back in my life. I genuinely hope they close doors one day because this was one of the most mismanaged altercations I've ever seen at a bar. I talked to the police about pressing charges but there was no one I could trust to have my back at the bar after they elected to kick me out. Also, no cameras to turn to into a legal matter. Anyways, I'm not really someone who likes to escalate things at all so I'm just letting it go moving forward. That being said, I hope this bar closes down. Just another Royal oak bar that doesn't deserve its location. This experience was INSANE. If you going out for drinks, please try to go somewhere else and do not feel bad if this bar looks slow. This place doesn't seem to deserve itself.
