Die Hard Marg

The food was excellent I highly recommend the chicken Marsala. Our waitress was very lively and attentive. It was a bit loud in the room we sat in so it made it a bit hard to hear the conversation at our table. Otherwise it was a great experience.

Bread pudding with caramel topping

I was a very lucky customer to be invited to dinner at this restaurant by a kind supplier President during the holiday season which included two guests visiting from India, and another from Indiana on business. Downtown Rochester was outstanding with the many colorful lights and the dining area was very quaint and inviting with interesting items on the walls. I had the chargrilled Norwegian salmon, rice, and green beans. The fish was prepared perfectly and I enjoyed the crispness of the green beans. We all enjoyed tasty desserts which was a bonus. The bread pudding with caramel topping was delicious. Viviana was a very kind and patient server as parking can be a challenge in downtown and we arrived in 4 groups. Walking along Main Street at this time of year is memorable for a lifetime. ENJOY!!!

Small portions, same w/e flavour. Packed, I must be crazy. Place looks and feels very nice.

the food was great! our server was very attentive and service was fast once we got seated. we did however have a reservation and ended up waiting 30 minutes prior to our time, as they had thought that they already sat us. despite this, the food was good and our experience was good.

One of our regular dining spots!! Their Caribbean jerk chicken pizza is delicious!!! The atmosphere is nice and can be quiet when not too busy.

It's a nice place, nice decor and the service was great, Katie I think. It is mostly freshwater fish food. I had the fish and chips and didn't particularly like it, the chips were pretty good. I did like the lunch portion size, I barely ate half but that is me, not the food. I said I didn't particularly like the fish but that is not the reason it went half eaten.

Chef's disastrous attempt at twin filet Marsala
Andrea C.

What a complete disaster! I already can imagine if the owner and/manager reads this, they are already going to side with the kitchen staff because there is no way any respectable establishment would allow this to happen. I let the server know I cannot eat dairy. I fully acknowledge my options are going to be limited - I am used to it. I go in knowing my meal is going to be different than described and I am fine with it because I truly cannot eat dairy (it's not one of these "oh I can't eat gluten" and then they eat two loaves of bread). But the bar was low and Kruse & Muer managed to fail miserably! I am probably going to get her name wrong - possibly Milia, did go talk with the chef to see what recommendation and came back with a few options (surprisingly, none with fish without the creamy cheese sauces). I decided that the twin filets with the Marsala sauce sounded good cuz I love mushrooms and I swapped out the "buttery mashed potatoes" with green beans. My entree arrived as the most boring looking meal. Two small filets and a pile of green beans. No Marsala sauce. The server could see I was irked and talked to the chef. The "chef" couldn't/wouldn't make the Marsala sauce after all with no dairy (server said "could not" but I say "would not" as I get Marsala out a lot and that's never been an issue before plus I make it at home at least once a month). Server came back with an aus jous sauce for me. Better than nothing but it just felt the chef was damn lazy. Mushrooms could not have been sautéed in a little oil to make up for no Marsala sauce? I talked to manager and she did bring some mushrooms out. Clearly the chef was peeved cuz these mushrooms were cooked about 50/50 mushroom and garlic...garlic that was not even cooked down...just about raw. I am not asking for much here folks but if you tell me you can make something dairy-free, don't cop out and give me a boring meal and then slap stuff together cuz you can't do what you promised. Oh, and the green bean swap on the potatoes, not a single grain of salt passed their way. Plain green beans. It really does not matter that my husband thought his meal was great because we won't ever be back. He picked this restaurant for my birthday weekend and 12 hours later he still regrets his decision so we are going elsewhere tonight.

September 30, 2023 Review #443 There are sooo many different types of restaurants in Downtown Rochester from coffee cafe and sandwiches, Knapp's burger joint, Chinese, Mexican, Italian plus Steak and Seafood. Kruse and Muer is a local chain serving up American dishes and specializing in Italian, Steaks, Seafood and Charley's Chowder! I enjoyed a relaxed, dining experience here at Kruse and Muer for My SpecialK Birthday on Sunday, 9/17/2023. The restaurant Ambiance along with comfortable seating and soft music set the celebration. The efficient service from waiter Cameron was on point with special attention to Me and My family while dining for a couple of hours. The cocktails, Complimentary soft warm seasoned baguette bread paired well with our delicious house salads and Charley's Chowder. My main entree Maryland Crab Cakes were very tasty and broiled to perfection with Red Rice Pilaf and Green Beans My favorite! :-) Photos attached as well! Everyone in My family party enjoyed their dinners too from Charley's Chowder, Seafood Lobster Fettuccine, Seafood Panroast # and Grilled Chicken Fettuccine. All were cooked and plated with tasteful flavors and plentiful too! What a sweet surprise for dessert was a Birthday Hot Fudge Sundae and candle. Family sang to Me! :-) History: Chuck Muer owns many famous Charlie's Crab restaurants. Bill Kruse and Chuck became friends back to 1972. Met a group of former work colleagues for lunch. Great service. Good venue. Easy parking. The Cod sandwich was excellent. Two large-ish pieces of Cod, expertly prepared. I selected cole slaw as my side. It was a coarse chop and a bit vinegary - just the way I like it, but the portion was a tad stingy. Will I return? Yabbut, it is a 65 minute drive. Maybe on another nice top down day.

The food has always been mid. The service is OK but our second waiter was horrible. The cocktails are really good, but it is definitely overpriced. The best part is drawing on the table.

The main server was helpful and gave good feedback on our choices. We were very pleased with our entrees which we shared. Flavorful and filling. The presentation was casual yet pleasing. I was happy to be able to split the tacos between shrimp and fish. So I didn't need to choose. The side slaw was wonderful. My husband enjoyed his pulled chicken which had lots of flavor but not too spicy. The tab was just under $40 with no alcohol; reasonable for this time. It's perfect with good weather when the patio is open. The ambience indoors looked fine though it seemed like it could be noisy. We look forward to our next visit

My chicken strips came out without my fries and were, sorry I eat things together, so it was disappointing to be told your fries are on their way and by the time they arrived my chicken strips were getting cold, and the fries were to hot to eat. Sorry but when I pay close to $14.00 for a glass of well wine, I expect the food to be "top shelf" and the service to be 2nd to none simply because of the KRUSE name.

I am so sad to be writing this but I think customers need to know what happened to us…read more 20 minute wait on a Saturday night approx. 650pm. We waited and were sat in about 20-30 minutes. We are a table of four and waitress only brought two waters. Had to ask for two more. We ordered around 730pm and my husband needed one minute, she went to the table next to us and never came back to get his order. She comes back with a salad (we never ordered a salad) but said we could have it anyway. My husband ordered and we got our soups and bread very quickly. We had to ask for the kids chocolate milks since they were never brought out. But then came the wait. Our waitress came out around 8pm and told the table next to us that "she has her prime rib (pointing at me), but we are now out so you two cannot get yours, hers was the last piece (again pointing to me)" so unprofessional to call me out as if it's my fault I ordered prime rib so they cannot. Our food did not land on our table until 840pm! When questioning the waitress and manager they both said the kitchen is backed up and that it's "the holidays". The waitress was apologetic but the manager was not. Tried to offer dessert but I said no. I said we should have been notified or asked if they can get the kids food first or something some kind of communication. I asked for our food to go. We packed it up for tomorrow since we are no longer hungry after waiting. And we had to remind the waitress for the kids ice creams too. My kids were tired and not hungry anymore and then on top of it we had some rude neighbors that were making comments the whole time after I complained directed at me. The whole experience was upsetting. The manager made us feel unheard and it felt dismissive. I'm sure the food is good but we will know tomorrow when we eat it. We have always heard great things about Golden Eagle and are so sad to not want to recommend to anyone else. Please work on communicating to your customers. If we had known how backed up the kitchen was we would have prepared ourselves or left. If we knew this was typical as your manager stated is normal during the holidays then we wouldn't have eaten here. Please do better Golden Eagle! Edit: tried food and it was great. I think the main issue is service here so I am changing my stars to 3 stars instead of 1.

We took our chances and came on a Saturday night at 5p. Thankfully the place wasn't busy yet. We got a table in the back entrance and it was perfect. Large menu with lots of options both food and drink. The bread and oil were divine. We went with the happy hour menu which was impressive to see on a weekend. The happy hour menu was amazing - a ton of drink and food options. We were able to order two cocktails and 4 food items all for about $60! The limoncello spritz and limoncello martini were both so delicious and balanced. Ordered the tomato and cucumber salad, carciofi fritti artichoke, mussels, and the meatball trio. I am still dreaming of this meal and would eat it again in a heartbeat! Everything was a good portion size even for happy hour and so delicious. Meatballs were tender, the artichoke had an amazing breading on it, the mussels were fresh, and the salad was refreshing. We were so full afterwards and had to decline dessert.
