Tucked right in downtown Rochester, it has that classic steakhouse charm warm lighting, beautiful bar area, and an atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy the evening. The steaks were cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and you can tell they care about quality. The sides were just as good, and the wine selection made it easy to find the perfect pairing. What stood out most, though, was the service attentive, welcoming, and genuinely kind without being over the top. Valentine's Day night. We knew it would be busy, so reservations were made a month out. Highly recommended to do so. While we are no longer regulars here, due to moving further away. We love coming back as the service is always over the top and the food is equally Devine. Tonight's server was Tyrone and did not disappoint. Very personable and making sure we were content. A group of 8 of us went to the Rochester Chop House for a holiday dinner. Our server (Michael, I think?) was very attentive and helpful. The service was very good. They made sure our water glasses were filled & they took away plates that were no longer being used. And they had no problem with individual checks. I ordered the delmonico steak with cherry rice pilaf. The steak was served all alone on a giant plate -- not even a sprig of parsley. It looked kind of naked. It was overly salty, and there wasn't much of "bark" or sear on it. I did take the leftovers home, rinsed off the salt and pan grilled it. I really liked the rice pilaf, though, and the bread basket selections were also very good. If I were to come back, I would order something else. read more

Food was excellent everything came out perfectly! Our waiter was very nice and talkative which was a plus. It was a bit loud in the dinning room during dinner service so it was a bit hard to hear at times but nothing too bad. One criticism I'll give for people with the distinguished guests card membership looking to take advantage of the free entree for your birthday offer. They will only make the cheapest entree you buy be free even if it is not the entree that was ordered by the cardholder who is celebrating their birthday. Classy steak house on Main St in Rochester. Meat choices are plentiful. I had Delmonico steak that you won't find anywhere else nearby. Our server was Savannah. This young lady was skillful, professional, polite and very accommodating. I'd expect top service from such restaurant and I was very happy with her taking care of my table. Beyond the food. Savannah left on us the biggest impression. Restaurant does not have a mandatory tipping associated with the amount of guests. Well, there were six of us and my bill came wtb no tip added. Savannah thus received something out of my heart, more than ever other restaurants would impose. So thank you management for giving me a choice. My family enjoyed the dinner. We had various steaks. Very classic Chop House setting, reminded me of my childhood- in all the good ways. It's a beautiful place. Food was excellent. This was one of the few times all 10 of us ordered, basically the same thing but it was worth it! Steak Friets with the steak from Snake River Farms, and Steak Delmonico. They cooked the steak in all different ways and we all received our order perfectly. Excellent and classy ambience. Worthy of a special occasion. Service is outstanding. The food is amazing and cooked perfectly. They serve some of the best lobster tails I've ever had. The steaks are amazing. It's a bit pricey, but worth it. The drink menu is extensive with many fine wines. The free assortment of breads when you are seated is a nice touch. It's a Kruse and Muer restaurant so you can get the Distinguished Guest discount. IMO, it's the best restaurant in downtown Rochester. read more

I have dined at the Chop House over 130 times in the past 32 years. With the exception of 3 times the food and service was excellent, unfortunately last night was not. When I made the reservation a week in advance I requested a booth. When we arrived the assistant manager/supervisor (Jake) said that they were booked and only able to provide booths for parties of 3 or more. Also we are members of their Distinguished Guest Dining Club which includes a 10% discount on all meals, 25% discount on your anniversary and a free entree on your birthday. Yesterday was the second time we were unable to use the discount for my wife's birthday. We spoke to Jake and he said there was nothing he could do about it. He said "everyone has a boss". He was very condescending through our stay. To top it off I ordered a 16oz strip steak and my wife ordered a 9oz fillet. Usually their strip steaks are about an inch and a half thick. The one I was served was less than 1/2 inch and looked and tasted like a chopped steak. My wife's fillet was excellent. When we left I noticed there were 3 booths occupied by parties of 2. Needless to say I was very disappointed with our experience. The owners should reconsider who they hire as managers/ ambassadors for their restaurants. Jake isn't someone I would want representing my establishment. After I submitted this review I was contacted by a representative of the corporate office. We had an excellent conversation. Every restaurant has an off night as do employees and customers. As I stated in my review the food and service has been excellent on at least 127 other occasions. I will continue to patronize this restaurant, hopefully for another 32 years. read more

11 years since my first review of the Rochester Chop house and I can say that it continues to be a 5 star dining experience. I have never had a bad meal here, the food is consistently excellent. My favorite entree is the filet lobster Oscar because you doesn't want some lobster with their steak? If you are not a member of their Kruse rewards club, it is definitely worth it. You get a discount each time you dine at any of their restaurants and a free birthday meal. It pays for itself especially if you come to the chophouse for your birthday meal! read more

we decided to go to Rochester chophouse on kind of a whim. I have been previously for a rehearsal dinner and really enjoyed it, and we wanted to try it as just the restaurant. The first thing that you notice as soon as you're sad in, the main restaurant is the old-school chophouse vibes. Carl's ChopHouse in downtown Detroit could be swapped for this restaurant. Almost piece by piece. Very old-school vibes. But it works., Our waiter was incredibly helpful and nice. Made recommendations about the menu and what we might enjoy. We started with bacon wrapped shrimp, and moved onto our main course. I had the steak frites with chimmichurri and my husband had the rib eye with zip sauce. Both were really good. I have to give the edge to the steak frites though, for my first bite, I realize that it was one of the most tender steaks I ever had. My husband agreed, and only when the waiter came back, did he mention that it was Wagyu. I never realized what a difference that made until that moment. We did end up trading meals halfway through so he could enjoy the steak. frites. overall, the meal was excellent, my only thought is that he said had he been told that my steak was waygu, he would have ordered it as well. looking forward to returning. I've always been a big fan of the Rochester chophouse, but I have to say that recently it's gone downhill, at least the food. Yesterday I had lunch there, and we ordered for the table escargot and shrimp cocktail. Then we had the California Fish tacos and salmon. There were a couple glasses of wine and a shared dessert as well. Go with the puff pastry. The puff pastry had kind of a raw underside to it. The shrimp cocktail didn't look super fresh. The California fish tacos were excellent but the salmon was average at best. Problem first of all for our lunch and everything I describe it was over $200. The place is pricey but that actually threw me a little bit 130 140 would've been much more appropriate for what we had. Here's the bigger problem . Both of us got sick. I am convinced I got food poisoning and spent the entire night and all of this morning in the bathroom. So did my guest. I'm not sure what caused it. My guess is the escargot, but it could've just as easily have been a stomach bug that's flying around. I'm not for sure but the fact that both of us were sick with food poisoning symptoms tells me something wasn't right. I'm not going to stop going to Rochester chophouse on occasion but I will be a lot more aware of what we are ordering and focus on more basic things. I certainly won't get the escarole again. I do love the ambience of the place. It's classic old-school chophouse vibe. The servers are always friendly. But I have to say that this time I was extremely disappointed. Totally recommend this restaurant for date night or even with kids too. I went with husband and son. My son was entertained with drawing on the brown paper cover that they put on the table. Classy enough, the restaurant only supplies black crayons. I thought it was so classy to keep the aesthetic of high end dining. We ordered beers and wine. The waiter was very knowledgeable of all menu items. We ordered the escargot. I found it refreshing that the bread basket had a variety of different style breads and they also serve you a medley of veggies in a vin-egret style dipping for the bread. We also tried the lobster bisque soup and the chowder. Both great choices. The main courses were delicious. We went for the steak and the shrimp risotto. You're transported to a Christmas village but with exquisite food. The line for this restaurant doesn't tell how fast the service actually is. We're automatically greeted and the waiter greets you with hot bread and a bean salad (very delicious). If the food isn't good enough the lights outside will make you feel warm and cozy. The last time we were here was probably ten years ago. And unfortunately it might be another decade before we return. I'll go with the good first; I was the only one who didn't get a steak. I got the chop house salmon and I wasn't disappointed. It had shrimp, some lobster all on top of a kale and bacon creamy tomato sauce. The salmon was slightly burnt underneath but it wasn't a big deal. The salmon was cooked to a nice medium and along with the other seafood on my plate, tasted great. I also got a Caesar salad with anchovies and it was good. The things I don't understand are why you charge $5 for a "zip sauce" that was basically just oil (see picture of steak). My wife got the steak medium and it was more medium rare which I would love but she did not. Our friends both got steak and no one was blown away by the quality or preparation of it. Having frequently visited this establishment since the mid-1990s to 2019, I though it would be a perfect spot for a special upscale NYE celebration. I could not have been more wrong. Our party of 8 was seated "upstairs," or in an repurposed overflow area. The ambiance wasn't that of the lovely dining room which I had requested when making my reservation. It was more a corner diner with leather chairs due to the glare of horrible lighting--the only thing missing was a 1950s detective demanding to know how and why we killed the victim. We asked several times to having the glare turned down only to be advised that all the lights are on the same circuit and if the 30 or so recessed fixtures are turned down, the many Edison-type "mood-lights" flicker. Apparently, RCH doesn't know how to retain the services of an electrician? or even how to take the bulbs out of half the recessed fixtures or replace them with burned out bulbs? or just figures you'll be stuck on NYE with nowhere else to go so why bother? Initially, the service was diner-like with the waitress standing at one end of a long table and loudly calling out. She got the hint that we expected better and improved markedly. The food was just okay with the sides like rice pilaf and mashed potatoes being rather small portions for how inexpensive they are compared to menu prices. One wine list and one tray of bean salad for 8 people?? Worse yet, one of my 7 guests had to wait for her food while the rest of us let our diners go cold. How disappointing. read more

We were the last ones in the restaurant at 8:15 when bus staff started moving tables, stripping, linens, moving chairs all around us. All of a sudden I'm getting the bums rush. Where am I Pizza Hut? Mentioned this to the 20 something "Manager" on my way out and she stared at me like a a deer in headlights. Hopefully this little note earns me a reply from her boss. Worst steak I have ever ate from any restaurant ever. Not even a dash of salt of pepper. I've never had a steak that tastes like nothing, it didn't even taste like meat just absolutely no flavor. Husband said the same about his. The potatoes they served us were supposed to be au gratin, they were not only raw but there was no seasoning or even any kind of au gratin to them. Just sliced raw potatoes with some parsley on top. The Brussels sprouts tasted ok but were just a greasy mess. I have always gone to the Rochester Chop House for special occasions and have never been disappointed. I was there Friday night and I have to say I was surprised. When we walked in, we wanted our favorite booth and I had to argue with them to get that booth. It was a hassle to get new bread. I had ordered the 12 ounce filet with their whipped potatoes. They brought out my meal and it was just the filet in the middle of a large plate with the whipped potatoes in a bowl. WTF? Talk about bad plating! Prices here are high and you expect top notch service and top notch meals. There are so many good restaurants in the area so not sure if I will come back. This is a really cozy and warm spot for a light or multi-course meal. I have been here for both such occasions. It's also nice enough for a romantic meal or a casual friendly and conducive spot to catch up with a friend. It's a versatile enough spot to cater to many types of social gatherings. My go to is their oysters and crab cakes. One day when things open back up, maybe I will make room for their stuffed mushrooms. But I have my favored items here. What a great meal! Our service was terrific and the food matched as well. We started off with the bacon wrapped shrimp on top of cornbread. It was good. A little dry, but nice flavors. For the salad, we got the house salad (essentially a chopped wedge with their own, unique dressing) and a Caesar salad. Both were highly recommended. Dressed perfectly, just the right size. We talked about the entrees the entire way home. Enjoying the Crab Cakes and Blackened Salmon, you just can't go wrong. Both were so flavorful, crab cakes had lumps of crab. The salmon was fresh, perfectly cooked and both were accompanied with green beans almandine. For sides, we shared the signature hash browns, grits and lobster and shrimp mac and cheese. They were all good. I wish the hash browns had warm blue cheese mixed in, but instead, they had a few crumbles on top. For dessert, we shared a piece of cheesecake. This was both of our least favorite part. It was alright. Tasted like frozen Sam's Club or Costco cheesecake. If you're going for good food, you'll enjoy yourself. However, if you're seeking a higher end atmosphere, this isn't the place you'll find that. Taxidermy lines the walls on one side, and caricatures on the other. Seemingly, they don't know what they're going for when it comes to the interior of the restaurant. Overall, give it a try. Food is good! read more

It's the old east vs west coast rivalry, do you go Seattle or Boston? They will tell you there is a different taste, but a slimy oyster is a slimy oyster. Especially if you put some horseradishes on it, Flavor bomb!!! My crazy suggestion is to get a Delmonico steak. I know this is out of left field, but give it a try. This is a very nice atmosphere - dimly lit with wood finishes and wine decor. With this place being more upscale we didn't like that there was still brown paper over the tabletops, like they have at their other more casual restaurants. Came here with a larger party for a special occasion and had reservations. Were sat 45 minutes late because they let the other party stay in the table area. They asked us to wait in the overly crowded bar at Kabin Krusers. We finally get seated and the party who sat there previousy is lingering around the table. Server and hostess does nothing to ask the party of ten to move out of the way. We edge into our seats and these same folks are standing right behind us drunk and loud. This lasted for another 30 minutes until I had to ask the manager to move them. Our table was 8 feet from the hostess stand, so staff knew what was going on and did nothing. Really, really uncalled for RCH. I have eaten at your establishment many times in 25 years and you would never let this happen in the past. Another reason we won't be back is the lack of vegan entrees. There literally is nothing on the menu to eat. You can get salad and a side of green beans after begging them to cook it in oil not butter. They will make you a small pasta dish with some lack luster veggies on it/no sauce and happily charge $30. It's not good either. If you like overpriced meat and fish, you're good. Service from our waitress wasn't great. She was overworked and unfriendly. On a positive note, the wine list is good. Not good enough to come back though. Other establishments have better service and have at least one menu item to appeal to plant based eaters. read more
