Apparently, this space has been here for over half a year, and I never noticed it, despite driving up and down the street several times a day. When I finally did notice it, I came here with my wife for dinner. The menu is absolutely Diverse. The service is great and ambiance is great. I understand they used to serve a full English breakfast. They no longer do. I wish you did. Everything we had was great. My only criticism is the drinks are very small and quite expensive. However, the food portions are reasonably priced and rather large. Guess that's a trade-off. Will definitely be back soon read more

This was our first experience at Great Dane Restaurant & Bar. I want to start off by saying our server was very polite and friendly. We got beverages and water quickly. We ordered the sausage roll appetizer, bangers and mash, and steak and ale pie. The appetizer came after we were done eating. The bangers lacked flavor. The crust on the pie was mildly burnt and very dry in flavor. I thought for sure the app would come off the bill since it had obviously been forgotten but nope, it was there. I genuinely do not feel the food matched the pricing. This was overall a very pricy mid-level meal. read more

Not impressed the least bit. Went in hoping to find tasty food and good service but this placed failed miserably. Food was subpar at best and the service was atrocious. Sent $100 and left feeling nothing but disappointed. We like a good meal and are willing to pay for a good meal but this... never again. Took at least 15-20 mins to be acknowledged. Had to wait an exorbitant amount of time for everything. Asked for extra sauce for my lukewarm food and by the time the sauce came I was not interested in eating any longer. Asked for a box, again took 10 mins. Surprised we didn't see an owner around. Hopefully they can get it together or else they won't be there much longer. We really enjoyed our time at The Great Dane Pub. The Ambiance was upscale chill. We enjoyed chatting with the bar tenders. The service was great and we really enjoyed our time here. The Chicken Florentine was delicious and we also ordered Fish and chips which was great. I am now craving fish and chips haha. Have enjoyed my last few visits here. I sit at the bar every time and the blonde bartender man is very kind and professional. The fig & pig salad is sooooo good (need a better layout/presentation). Food: We started with the side Caesar salad, sticky pork belly, and the trio skillet, dessert. The pork belly definitely has some tender pieces, but also some pieces that were too hard to really enjoy. The size Caesar salad was solid. They said they recently changed from a chopped Caesar salad to a Wedge salad and that was a good move. The trio skillet dessert was excellent. It came in a skillet that had three different compartments, one with a gooey chocolate chip cookie the second with a warm brownie and the third with an apple crumble. Definitely could have left the apple crumble off, but the chocolate items were top-notch. It was also great that the desserts did not run together as the cookie had vanilla ice cream on top. We then moved to our main courses which included a pepperoni pizza, no sauce, triple patty smash burger, chicken rigatoni, the lamb burger, and the pub sliders. The pub sliders were advertised on the happy hour menu as Smashburgera, which was very exciting for my daughter, but when it came, the beef patties were very thick. The server was nice, but did admit that it must have been a typo on the menu because they were never intended to be smash burgers, but that definitely was disappointing and the burgers ultimately were dry. I also ordered my lamb burger medium, but it came out medium well, very well in some areas and it was also dry and I could not enjoy it. The Smashburger was gone as soon as they hit the table, so that was good and the chicken rigatoni pasta dish was alright. The tomato sauce is very acidic if you like that and the chicken was grilled diced piece pieces. The restaurant had just opened about a half hour before we arrived so it was empty. Service was fairly on point. They definitely kept refilling our waters without asking which was nice and even after we expressed dissatisfaction with some of the food that was brought to us, the manager immediately came over asked if they could replace our meal or offered to take it off the bill so that was really a positive experience. The restaurant is very quiet and relaxing. Love the art on the walls and both the restaurant and the bathrooms were clean. We will definitely return, but would likely stay away from some of the items that we ordered the first time and did not enjoy as much. We'd probably all try the smash burger and definitely order the dessert again. Lastly, I had the chocolate espresso martini and it was the best part of the meal! read more

Not loving the excessively high top table. Axle is waiting on us. Nothing on the starters menu sounded that appetizing. We considered the beet carpaccio, quinoa salad, savoy cabbage with side of Caesar, but none of the pizzas, burgers or other entrees sounded good to me at all. The space and staff were welcoming and I thought we were off to a good start. Once we sat at the table we noticed a strong floral smell that did not dissipate the entire time we were there. It came on strong again when they cleaned the table behind us. The pretzel appetizer with mustard was good, but the beer cheese seemed watered down and maybe thickened with corn starch? We had been watching this for a long time waiting for it to open. The place inside is beautiful. They really did a nice job on redecorating and changing things around to make an inviting warm comfortable atmosphere. The menu has lots of choices we went for the regular hamburger and the French onion burger. Seems to be the same burger with different toppings and different prices. They had a really good char flavor to them but if you don't like char, you really shouldn't get this burger cuz it's pretty strong. The drawback to this place would be for some people that the drink prices are extremely high. We went for lunch and we had two non premium beers and one was $7 and the other one was $7.50. read more

We took my mother-in-law to The Great Dane for her birthday Saturday evening and what a great find this was! We were greeted warmly when we got there and asked if we had a reservation (highly recommended) and said we did. We sat at a high-top right at the front window. A nice vibe on a warm spring evening. Our server, Bobby, greeted us and told us the drink specials for the evening. Our drink orders were taken, and delivered promptly. The waiter's menu knowledge was excellent and his recommendations turned out to be perfect. We started with the battered oyster mushroom and dipping sauce. A large portion and perfect for three people. My mother-in-law and husband had the fish & chips and I had the chicken rigatoni as our mains. The fish was light and the batter crunchy. My rigatoni had an excellent flavor and fresh cherry tomatoes scattered through the sauce. So much flavor! The service was exceptional! Extremely disappointing experience. This was honestly some of the worst food I've had at a restaurant in Royal Oak. I have culinary experience, so I know when food is poorly prepared. The pasta was watery and badly made. The fish and chips were terrible--the fries tasted old and were not fresh, while the fish was wet, sticky, and not crispy at all. The salad was also disappointing. The beets tasted canned, and it was overloaded with dressing. The service made the experience even worse. Our server barely checked on us, ignored our table for most of the meal, and never refilled our water. We received such poor service that we did not leave a tip. The kitchen desperately needs better quality control and training. Management should seriously review what is happening with both the food and service. Customers are paying good money and deserve much better than this. I will not be returning, and I cannot recommend this restaurant based on my experience. read more

However we waited a LONG time for a seemingly simple order about an hour after ordering . Ok, so this is different. Royal Oak's latest brewpub is not more of the same. I went to Great Dane for lunch on a Thursday and was immediately impressed with its upscale interior design, brick walls, chandeliers, comfy booths--it feels more like a steakhouse or a grill at a country club than just another restaurant that serves burgers. The staff was dressed in uniforms and very well trained, polite, and attentive. They have a huge beer list, cocktail menu, and standard brewpub fare. I opted for a buffalo chicken sandwich with fries--my friend had a burger--and we were both impressed. The chicken breast on the sandwich was a very generous proportion, not heavily breaded, and I loved the sauce. The fries were crispy and there were plenty of them. I'm looking forward to coming back and trying the entrees. Definitely recommend it! read more

During the summer sips, the heat was unbearable. Given the current temperatures, I was eager to cool down and savor one of the great cocktails I've heard about. However, I'm disappointed that they haven't found a better way to maintain a cooler environment during the summer. They shouldn't be open if they can't maintain a comfortable temperature for both customers and their staff. I have been a patron of Royal Oak restaurants for 30 years and was invited to try the Great Dane. Accepting the invitation was my first mistake. The restaurant had possibly four or five patrons at 3 pm which I thought was perfect; however, was I wrong. Ordered a draft beer and two appetizers and after 15 munutes-walked out. It begs the question: If you don't care about customer service, how safe is the food? Needless to say, stay away from start-up restaurants that don't think basic customer service is not important. That may save you from a bad experience, or worse, hospitalization. read more

The mussels were great and broth exceptional! Could have used a little more bread to mop it up finally found a place that serves haddock instead of cod!! Batter was a little thick but chips were great. Our waiter was magnificent and had no problem returning the wrong beer that was poured by the bar tender. Owner (Lisa)has no clue what Her restaurant servers. She is very rude when you ask questions. She can't explain the food, drinks, or even the wine selection. The wine was picked because of the way the bottles look and not how they taste. The food was ok not what I was expecting for a chef that was on hell's kitchen. We got the dane pizza and it was like a wet noodle. When it was picked up it would just go limp. As for the looks of the restaurant, it looks like they are trying to be way higher end then the area should be. The seats have little to know padding. read more
